MIPS: Add -Werror to arch/mips/Kbuild Adding subdirs-ccflags-y := -Werror to arch/mips/Kbuild let us in one go cover all files with -Werror. In addition this allows us to remove the individual -Werror definition in various Makefile. Adding the definition to Kbuild as a recursive option help us not to forget to do so. With this change we now compile arch/mips/kernel/cpufreq with -Werror One drawback: When specifying a subdirectory covered by the Kbuild file like this: make arch/mips/kernel/ then kbuild fails to pick up the -Werror definition. MIPS: Introduce support for Platform definitions Move platform specific definitions to the platfrom directories. Each platform shall do the following: 1) include an entry in arch/mips/Kbuild.platforms 2) add relevant definitions to arch/mips/<platform>/Platform This commits changes ar7 to the new scheme as an example. kbuild: remove --include-dir MAKEFLAG from top Makefile I added $(srctree)/ to some included Makefiles in the following commits: - 3204a7fb98a3 ("kbuild: prefix $(srctree)/ to some included Makefiles") - d82856395505 ("kbuild: do not require sub-make for separate output tree builds") They were a preparation for removing --include-dir flag. I have never thought --include-dir useful. Rather, it _is_ harmful. For example, run the following commands: $ make -s ARCH=x86 mrproper defconfig $ make ARCH=arm O=foo dtbs make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/linux/foo' HOSTCC scripts/basic/fixdep Error: kernelrelease not valid - run 'make prepare' to update it UPD include/config/kernel.release make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/linux/foo' The first command configures the source tree for x86. The next command tries to build ARM device trees in the separate foo/ directory - this must stop because the directory foo/ has not been configured yet. However, due to --include-dir=$(abs_srctree), the top Makefile includes the wrong include/config/auto.conf from the source tree and continues building. Kbuild traverses the directory tree, but of course it does not work correctly. The Error message is also pointless - 'make prepare' does not help at all for fixing the issue. This commit fixes more arch Makefile, and finally removes --include-dir from the top Makefile. There are more breakages under drivers/, but I do not volunteer to fix them all. I just moved --include-dir to drivers/Makefile. We can get it to descend into the platform directories by setting $(obj-). The dec Platform file was unconditionally setting platform-, obliterating its previous contents and preventing some directories from being cleaned. This is change to an append operation '+=' to allow cavium-octeon to be cleaned. MIPS: Fix "make clean" error due to recent changes Commit 26bff9eb49201aeb ("MIPS: Only include the platformfile needed") moves platform-(CONFIG_XYZ) from arch/mips/xyz/Platform to arch/mips/ Kbuild.platforms. This change causes an error when "make clean": ./scripts/Makefile.clean:15: arch/mips/vr41xx/Makefile: No such file or directory make[3]: *** No rule to make target `arch/mips/vr41xx/Makefile'. Stop. make[2]: *** [arch/mips/vr41xx] Error 2 make[1]: *** [_clean_arch/mips] Error 2 make: *** [sub-make] Error 2 Clean-files are defined in arch/mips/Kbuild: obj- := $(platform-) Due to the movement of platform-(CONFIG_XYZ), "make clean" will enter arch/mips/vr41xx/ whether CONFIG_MACH_VR41XX is defined or not. Because there is no Makefile in arch/mips/vr41xx/, "make clean" fails. MIPS: Initial implementation of a VDSO Add an initial implementation of a proper (i.e. an ELF shared library) VDSO. With this commit it does not export any symbols, it only replaces the current signal return trampoline page. A later commit will add user implementations of gettimeofday()/clock_gettime(). To support both new toolchains and old ones which don't generate ABI flags section, we define its content manually and then use a tool (genvdso) to patch up the section to have the correct name and type. genvdso also extracts symbol offsets ({,rt_}sigreturn) needed by the kernel, and generates a C file containing a "struct mips_vdso_image" containing both the VDSO data and these offsets. This C file is compiled into the kernel. On 64-bit kernels we require a different VDSO for each supported ABI, so we may build up to 3 different VDSOs. The VDSO to use is selected by the mips_abi structure. A kernel/user shared data page is created and mapped below the VDSO image. This is currently empty, but will be used by the user time function implementations which are added later. kbuild: use more subdir- for visiting subdirectories while cleaning Documentation/kbuild/makefiles.rst suggests to use "archclean" for cleaning arch/$(SRCARCH)/boot/, but it is not a hard requirement. Since commit d92cc4d51643 ("kbuild: require all architectures to have arch/$(SRCARCH)/Kbuild"), we can use the "subdir- += boot" trick for all architectures. This can take advantage of the parallel option (-j) for "make clean". I also cleaned up the comments in arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile. The "archdep" target no longer exists.
