Jakub Kicinski b6459415b3 net: Don't include filter.h from net/sock.h
sock.h is pretty heavily used (5k objects rebuilt on x86 after
it's touched). We can drop the include of filter.h from it and
add a forward declaration of struct sk_filter instead.
This decreases the number of rebuilt objects when bpf.h
is touched from ~5k to ~1k.

There's a lot of missing includes this was masking. Primarily
in networking tho, this time.

Remi Pommarel fd3a459000 net: bridge: Get SIOCGIFBR/SIOCSIFBR ioctl working in compat mode
In compat mode SIOC{G,S}IFBR ioctls were only supporting
BRCTL_GET_VERSION returning an artificially version to spur userland
tool to use SIOCDEVPRIVATE instead. But some userland tools ignore that
and use SIOC{G,S}IFBR unconditionally as seen with busybox's brctl.

Example of non working 32-bit brctl with CONFIG_COMPAT=y:
$ brctl show
brctl: SIOCGIFBR: Invalid argument

Example of fixed 32-bit brctl with CONFIG_COMPAT=y:
$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces

Remi Pommarel d95a56207c net: bridge: fix ioctl old_deviceless bridge argument
Commit 561d835281 ("bridge: use ndo_siocdevprivate") changed the
source and destination arguments of copy_{to,from}_user in bridge's
old_deviceless() from args[1] to uarg breaking SIOC{G,S}IFBR ioctls.

Commit cbd7ad29a5 ("net: bridge: fix ioctl old_deviceless bridge
argument") fixed only BRCTL_{ADD,DEL}_BRIDGES commands leaving
BRCTL_GET_BRIDGES one untouched.

The fixes BRCTL_GET_BRIDGES as well and has been tested with busybox's
brctl.

Example of broken brctl:
$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
brctl: can't get bridge name for index 0: No such device or address

Example of fixed brctl:
$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
br0 8000.000000000000 no

changed the source of the argument copy in bridge's old_deviceless() from

Nikolay Aleksandrov 893b195875 net: bridge: fix ioctl locking
Before commit ad2f99aedf ("net: bridge: move bridge ioctls out of
.ndo_do_ioctl") the bridge ioctl calls were divided in two parts:
one was deviceless called by sock_ioctl and didn't expect rtnl to be held,
the other was with a device called by dev_ifsioc() and expected rtnl to be
held. After the commit above they were united in a single ioctl stub, but
it didn't take care of the locking expectations.
For sock_ioctl now we acquire (1) br_ioctl_mutex, (2) rtnl
and for dev_ifsioc we acquire (1) rtnl, (2) br_ioctl_mutex

The fix is to get a refcnt on the netdev for dev_ifsioc calls and drop rtnl
then to reacquire it in the bridge ioctl stub after br_ioctl_mutex has
been acquired. That will avoid playing locking games and make the rules
straight-forward: we always take br_ioctl_mutex first, and then rtnl.

Arnd Bergmann ad2f99aedf net: bridge: move bridge ioctls out of .ndo_do_ioctl
Working towards obsoleting the .ndo_do_ioctl operation entirely,
stop passing the SIOCBRADDIF/SIOCBRDELIF device ioctl commands
into this callback.

My first attempt was to add another ndo_siocbr() callback, but
as there is only a single driver that takes these commands and
there is already a hook mechanism to call directly into this
driver, extend this hook instead, and use it for both the
deviceless and the device specific ioctl commands.

Nikolay Aleksandrov 9289906313 net: bridge: add notifications for the bridge dev on vlan change
Currently the bridge device doesn't generate any notifications upon vlan
modifications on itself because it doesn't use the generic bridge
notifications.
With the recent changes we know if anything was modified in the vlan config
thus we can generate a notification when necessary for the bridge device
so add support to br_ifinfo_notify() similar to how other combined
functions are done - if port is present it takes precedence, otherwise
notify about the bridge. I've explicitly marked the locations where the
notification should be always for the port by setting bridge to NULL.
I've also taken the liberty to rearrange each modified function's local
variables in reverse xmas tree as well.

Xin Long fbb85b3c01 bridge: remove rtmsg_ifinfo called in add_del_if
Since commit dc709f3757 ("rtnetlink: bring NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER event
process back in rtnetlink_event"), rtnetlink_event would process the
NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER event and send a notification to userspace.

In add_del_if, it would generate NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER event by whether
netdev_master_upper_dev_link or netdev_upper_dev_unlink. There's
no need to call rtmsg_ifinfo to send the notification any more.

So this patch is to remove it from add_del_if also to avoid redundant
notifications.

Vincent Bernat 00ba4cb36d bridge: also trigger RTM_NEWLINK when interface is released from bridge
Currently, when an interface is released from a bridge via
ioctl(), we get a RTM_DELLINK event through netlink:

Deleted 2: dummy0: <BROADCAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 master bridge0 state UNKNOWN
    link/ether 6e:23:c2:54:3a:b3

Userspace has to interpret that as a removal from the bridge, not as a
complete removal of the interface. When an bridged interface is
completely removed, we get two events:

Deleted 2: dummy0: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 master bridge0 state DOWN
    link/ether 6e:23:c2:54:3a:b3
Deleted 2: dummy0: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
    link/ether 6e:23:c2:54:3a:b3 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

In constrast, when an interface is released from a bond, we get a
RTM_NEWLINK with only the new characteristics (no master):

3: dummy1: <BROADCAST,NOARP,SLAVE,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue master bond0 state UNKNOWN group default
    link/ether ae:dc:7a:8c:9a:3c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: dummy1: <BROADCAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default
    link/ether ae:dc:7a:8c:9a:3c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: bond0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,MASTER,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP group default
    link/ether ae:dc:7a:8c:9a:3c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: dummy1: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN group default
    link/ether ae:dc:7a:8c:9a:3c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: dummy1: <BROADCAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN group default
    link/ether ca:c8:7b:66:f8:25 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: bond0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,MASTER,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP group default
    link/ether ae:dc:7a:8c:9a:3c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

Userland may be confused by the fact we say a link is deleted while
its characteristics are only modified. A first solution would have
been to turn the RTM_DELLINK event in del_nbp() into a RTM_NEWLINK
event. However, maybe some piece of userland is relying on this
RTM_DELLINK to detect when a bridged interface is released. Instead,
we also emit a RTM_NEWLINK event once the interface is
released (without master info).

Deleted 2: dummy0: <BROADCAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 master bridge0 state UNKNOWN
    link/ether 8a:bb:e7:94:b1:f8
2: dummy0: <BROADCAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default
    link/ether 8a:bb:e7:94:b1:f8 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

This is done only when using ioctl(). When using Netlink, such an
event is already automatically emitted in do_setlink().

Xin Long bf871ad792 bridge: a netlink notification should be sent when those attributes are changed by ioctl
Now when we change the attributes of bridge or br_port by netlink,
a relevant netlink notification will be sent, but if we change them
by ioctl or sysfs, no notification will be sent.

We should ensure that whenever those attributes change internally or from
sysfs/ioctl, that a netlink notification is sent out to listeners.

Also, NetworkManager will use this in the future to listen for out-of-band
bridge master attribute updates and incorporate them into the runtime
configuration.

This patch is used for ioctl.

Nikolay Aleksandrov 2dab80a8b4 bridge: fix br_stp_set_bridge_priority race conditions
After the ->set() spinlocks were removed br_stp_set_bridge_priority
was left running without any protection when used via sysfs. It can
race with port add/del and could result in use-after-free cases and
corrupted lists. Tested by running port add/del in a loop with stp
enabled while setting priority in a loop, crashes are easily
reproducible.
The spinlocks around sysfs ->set() were removed in commit:

fixed by this change, but it was introduced recently and the fixes tag

stephen hemminger 14f98f258f bridge: range check STP parameters
Apply restrictions on STP parameters based 802.1D 1998 standard.
   * Fixes missing locking in set path cost ioctl
   * Uses common code for both ioctl and sysfs

This is based on an earlier patch Sasikanth V but with overhaul.

Note:
1. It does NOT enforce the restriction on the relationship max_age and
forward delay or hello time because in existing implementation these are
   set as independant operations.

2. If STP is disabled, there is no restriction on forward delay

3. No restriction on holding time because users use Linux code to act
   as hub or be sticky.

4. Although standard allow 0-255, Linux only allows 0-63 for port priority
because more bits are reserved for port number.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Stephen Hemminger 8d4698f7a5 bridge: don't allow setting hello time to zero
Dushan Tcholich reports that on his system ksoftirqd can consume
between %6 to %10 of cpu time, and cause ~200 context switches per
second.

He then correlated this with a report by bdupree@techfinesse.com:

	http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=119613299024398&w=2

and the culprit cause seems to be starting the bridge interface.
In particular, when starting the bridge interface, his scripts
are specifying a hello timer interval of "0".

The bridge hello time can't be safely set to values less than 1
second, otherwise it is possible to end up with a runaway timer.

Eric W. Biederman 881d966b48 [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network
namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a
network namespace variable, and then it picks up
a few associated variables. The functions:
dev_getbyhwaddr
dev_getfirsthwbytype
dev_get_by_flags
dev_get_by_name
__dev_get_by_name
dev_get_by_index
__dev_get_by_index
dev_ioctl
dev_ethtool
dev_load
wireless_process_ioctl

were modified to take a network namespace argument, and
deal with it.

vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their
hooks will receive a network namespace argument.

So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was
affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle
multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was
simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network
namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network
stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.

For now the ifindex generator is left global.

Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else
we will have corner case problems with migration when
we get that far.

At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack
that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making
the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until
the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when
you change namespaces, and the like.
