7c31515857 fs: binfmt_elf_efpic: fix personality for ELF-FDPIC
The elf-fdpic loader hard sets the process personality to either
PER_LINUX_FDPIC for true elf-fdpic binaries or to PER_LINUX for normal ELF
binaries (in this case they would be constant displacement compiled with
-pie for example).  The problem with that is that it will lose any other
bits that may be in the ELF header personality (such as the "bug
emulation" bits).

On the ARM architecture the ADDR_LIMIT_32BIT flag is used to signify a
normal 32bit binary - as opposed to a legacy 26bit address binary.  This
matters since start_thread() will set the ARM CPSR register as required
based on this flag.  If the elf-fdpic loader loses this bit the process
will be mis-configured and crash out pretty quickly.

Modify elf-fdpic loader personality setting so that it preserves the upper
three bytes by using the SET_PERSONALITY macro to set it.  This macro in
the generic case sets PER_LINUX and preserves the upper bytes. 
Architectures can override this for their specific use case, and ARM does
exactly this.

The problem shows up quite easily running under qemu using the ARM
architecture, but not necessarily on all types of real ARM hardware.  If
the underlying ARM processor does not support the legacy 26-bit addressing
mode then everything will work as expected.

0d32a6bbb8 NFSD: Fix zero NFSv4 READ results when RQ_SPLICE_OK is not set
nfsd4_encode_readv() uses xdr->buf->page_len as a starting point for
the nfsd_iter_read() sink buffer -- page_len is going to be offset
by the parts of the COMPOUND that have already been encoded into
xdr->buf->pages.

However, that value must be captured /before/
xdr_reserve_space_vec() advances page_len by the expected size of
the read payload. Otherwise, the whole front part of the first
page of the payload in the reply will be uninitialized.

Mantas hit this because sec=krb5i forces RQ_SPLICE_OK off, which
invokes the readv part of the nfsd4_encode_read() path. Also,
older Linux NFS clients appear to send shorter READ requests
for files smaller than a page, whereas newer clients just send
page-sized requests and let the server send as many bytes as
are in the file.

381c043233 iomap: add a workaround for racy i_size updates on block devices
A szybot reproducer that does write I/O while truncating the size of a
block device can end up in clean_bdev_aliases, which tries to clean the
bdev aliases that it uses.  This is because iomap_to_bh automatically
sets the BH_New flag when outside of i_size.  For block devices updates
to i_size are racy and we can hit this case in a tiny race window,
leading to the eventual clean_bdev_aliases call.  Fix this by erroring
out of > i_size I/O on block devices.

overlayfs: set ctime when setting mtime and atime
Nathan reported that he was seeing the new warning in
setattr_copy_mgtime pop when starting podman containers. Overlayfs is
trying to set the atime and mtime via notify_change without also
setting the ctime.

POSIX states that when the atime and mtime are updated via utimes() that
we must also update the ctime to the current time. The situation with
overlayfs copy-up is analogies, so add ATTR_CTIME to the bitmask.
notify_change will fill in the value.

ovl: disable IOCB_DIO_CALLER_COMP
overlayfs copies the kiocb flags when it sets up a new kiocb to handle
a write, but it doesn't properly support dealing with the deferred
caller completions of the kiocb. This means it doesn't get the final
write completion value, and hence will complete the write with '0' as
the result.

We could support the caller completions in overlayfs, but for now let's
just disable them in the generated write kiocb.

537c013b14 xfs: fix reloading entire unlinked bucket lists
During review of the patcheset that provided reloading of the incore
iunlink list, Dave made a few suggestions, and I updated the copy in my
dev tree.  Unfortunately, I then got distracted by ... who even knows
what ... and forgot to backport those changes from my dev tree to my
release candidate branch.  I then sent multiple pull requests with stale
patches, and that's what was merged into -rc3.

So.

This patch re-adds the use of an unlocked iunlink list check to
determine if we want to allocate the resources to recreate the incore
list.  Since lost iunlinked inodes are supposed to be rare, this change
helps us avoid paying the transaction and AGF locking costs every time
we open any inode.

This also re-adds the shutdowns on failure, and re-applies the
restructuring of the inner loop in xfs_inode_reload_unlinked_bucket, and
re-adds a requested comment about the quotachecking code.

Retain the original RVB tag from Dave since there's no code change from
the last submission.

   On close, the newly created event dentry will get a "dput" without ever having

What happened above, the first open (dfd) will call
dcache_dir_open_wrapper() that will create the dentries and up their ref
counts.

Now the creation of "kp2" will add another dentry within the kprobes
directory.

Upon the close of dfd, eventfs_release() will now do a dput for all the
entries in kprobes. But this is where the problem lies. The open only
upped the dentry of kp1 and not kp2. Now the close is decrementing both
kp1 and kp2, which causes kp2 to get a negative count.

Doing a "trace-cmd reset" which deletes all the kprobes cause the kernel
to crash! (due to the messed up accounting of the ref counts).

To solve this, save all the dentries that are opened in the
dcache_dir_open_wrapper() into an array, and use this array to know what
dentries to do a dput on in eventfs_release().

Since the dcache_dir_open_wrapper() calls dcache_dir_open() which uses the
file->private_data, we need to also add a wrapper around dcache_readdir()
that uses the cursor assigned to the file->private_data. This is because
the dentries need to also be saved in the file->private_data. To do this
create the structure:

Which will hold both the cursor and the dentries. Some shuffling around is
needed to make sure that dcache_dir_open() and dcache_readdir() only see
the cursor.

 "Earlier this week we sent a few minor fixes for the multi-grained
  timestamp work in [1]. While we were polishing those up after Linus
  realized that there might be a nicer way to fix them we received a
  regression report in [2] that fine grained timestamps break gnulib
  tests and thus possibly other tools.

  The kernel will elide fine-grain timestamp updates when no one is
  actively querying for them to avoid performance impacts. So a sequence
  like write(f1) stat(f2) write(f2) stat(f2) write(f1) stat(f1) may
  result in timestamp f1 to be older than the final f2 timestamp even
  though f1 was last written too but the second write didn't update the
  timestamp.

  Such plotholes can lead to subtle bugs when programs compare
  timestamps. For example, the nap() function in [2] will estimate that
  it needs to wait one ns on a fine-grain timestamp enabled filesytem
  between subsequent calls to observe a timestamp change. But in general
  we don't update timestamps with more than one jiffie if we think that
  no one is actively querying for fine-grain timestamps to avoid
  performance impacts.

  While discussing various fixes the decision was to go back to the
  drawing board and ultimately to explore a solution that involves only
  exposing such fine-grained timestamps to nfs internally and never to
  userspace.

  As there are multiple solutions discussed the honest thing to do here
  is not to fix this up or disable it but to cleanly revert. The general
  infrastructure will probably come back but there is no reason to keep
  this code in mainline.

  The general changes to timestamp handling are valid and a good cleanup
  that will stay. The revert is fully bisectable"

74ee79142c btrfs: reset destination buffer when read_extent_buffer() gets invalid range
Commit f98b6215d7 ("btrfs: extent_io: do extra check for extent buffer
read write functions") changed how we handle invalid extent buffer range
for read_extent_buffer().

Previously if the range is invalid we just set the destination to zero,
but after the patch we do nothing and error out.

This can lead to smatch static checker errors like:

A user reported some issues with smaller file systems that get very
full.  While investigating this issue I noticed that df wasn't showing
100% full, despite having 0 chunk space and having < 1MiB of available
metadata space.

This turns out to be an overflow issue, we're doing:

  total_available_metadata_space - SZ_4M < global_block_rsv_size

to determine if there's not enough space to make metadata allocations,
which overflows if total_available_metadata_space is < 4M.  Fix this by
checking to see if our available space is greater than the 4M threshold.
This makes df properly report 100% usage on the file system.

8ec0a4a577 btrfs: log message if extent item not found when running delayed extent op
When running a delayed extent operation, if we don't find the extent item
in the extent tree we just return -EIO without any logged message. This
indicates some bug or possibly a memory or fs corruption, so the return
value should not be -EIO but -EUCLEAN instead, and since it's not expected
to ever happen, print an informative error message so that if it happens
we have some idea of what went wrong, where to look at.

1bf76df3fe btrfs: return -EUCLEAN for delayed tree ref with a ref count not equals to 1
When running a delayed tree reference, if we find a ref count different
from 1, we return -EIO. This isn't an IO error, as it indicates either a
bug in the delayed refs code or a memory corruption, so change the error
code from -EIO to -EUCLEAN. Also tag the branch as 'unlikely' as this is
not expected to ever happen, and change the error message to print the
tree block's bytenr without the parenthesis (and there was a missing space
between the 'block' word and the opening parenthesis), for consistency as
that's the style we used everywhere else.

a7ddeeb079 btrfs: prevent transaction block reserve underflow when starting transaction
When starting a transaction, with a non-zero number of items, we reserve
metadata space for that number of items and for delayed refs by doing a
call to btrfs_block_rsv_add(), with the transaction block reserve passed
as the block reserve argument. This reserves metadata space and adds it
to the transaction block reserve. Later we migrate the space we reserved
for delayed references from the transaction block reserve into the delayed
refs block reserve, by calling btrfs_migrate_to_delayed_refs_rsv().

btrfs_migrate_to_delayed_refs_rsv() decrements the number of bytes to
migrate from the source block reserve, and this however may result in an
underflow in case the space added to the transaction block reserve ended
up being used by another task that has not reserved enough space for its
own use - examples are tasks doing reflinks or hole punching because they
end up calling btrfs_replace_file_extents() -> btrfs_drop_extents() and
may need to modify/COW a variable number of leaves/paths, so they keep
trying to use space from the transaction block reserve when they need to
COW an extent buffer, and may end up trying to use more space then they
have reserved (1 unit/path only for removing file extent items).

This can be avoided by simply reserving space first without adding it to
the transaction block reserve, then add the space for delayed refs to the
delayed refs block reserve and finally add the remaining reserved space
to the transaction block reserve. This also makes the code a bit shorter
and simpler. So just do that.

2ed45c0f18 btrfs: fix race when refilling delayed refs block reserve
If we have two (or more) tasks attempting to refill the delayed refs block
reserve we can end up with the delayed block reserve being over reserved,
that is, with a reserved space greater than its size. If this happens, we
are holding to more reserved space than necessary for a while.

The race happens like this:

1) The delayed refs block reserve has a size of 8M and a reserved space of
   6M for example;

2) Task A calls btrfs_delayed_refs_rsv_refill();

3) Task B also calls btrfs_delayed_refs_rsv_refill();

4) Task A sees there's a 2M difference between the size and the reserved
   space of the delayed refs rsv, so it will reserve 2M of space by
   calling btrfs_reserve_metadata_bytes();

5) Task B also sees that 2M difference, and like task A, it reserves
   another 2M of metadata space;

6) Both task A and task B increase the reserved space of block reserve
   by 2M, by calling btrfs_block_rsv_add_bytes(), so the block reserve
   ends up with a size of 8M and a reserved space of 10M;

7) The extra, over reserved space will eventually be freed by some task
   calling btrfs_delayed_refs_rsv_release() -> btrfs_block_rsv_release()
   -> block_rsv_release_bytes(), as there we will detect the over reserve
   and release that space.

So fix this by checking if we still need to add space to the delayed refs
block reserve after reserving the metadata space, and if we don't, just
release that space immediately.

When writing back an inode and performing an fsync on it concurrently, a
deadlock issue may arise as shown below. In each writeback iteration, a
clean inode is requeued to the wb->b_dirty queue due to non-zero

Prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by
attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have
their accesses bounds-checked at run-time checking via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS
(for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family
functions).

direct_write_fallback(): on error revert the ->ki_pos update from buffered write
If we fail filemap_write_and_wait_range() on the range the buffered write went
into, we only report the "number of bytes which we direct-written", to quote
the comment in there.  Which is fine, but buffered write has already advanced
iocb->ki_pos, so we need to roll that back.  Otherwise we end up with e.g.
write(2) advancing position by more than the amount it reports having written.

fe44198016 proc: nommu: fix empty /proc/<pid>/maps
On no-MMU, /proc/<pid>/maps reads as an empty file.  This happens because
find_vma(mm, 0) always returns NULL (assuming no vma actually contains the
zero address, which is normally the case).

To fix this bug and improve the maintainability in the future, this patch
makes the no-MMU implementation as similar as possible to the MMU
implementation.

The only remaining differences are the lack of hold/release_task_mempolicy
and the extra code to shoehorn the gate vma into the iterator.

This has been tested on top of 6.5.3 on an STM32F746.

The no-MMU implementation of /proc/<pid>/map doesn't normally release
the mmap read lock, because it uses !IS_ERR_OR_NULL(_vml) to determine
whether to release the lock.  Since _vml is NULL when the end of the
mappings is reached, the lock is not released.

Reading /proc/1/maps twice doesn't cause a hang because it only
takes the read lock, which can be taken multiple times and therefore
doesn't show any problem if the lock isn't released. Instead, you need
to perform some operation that attempts to take the write lock after
reading /proc/<pid>/maps. To actually reproduce the bug, compile the
following code as 'proc_maps_bug':

This code was incorrectly adapted from the MMU implementation, which at
the time released the lock in m_next() before returning the last entry.

The MMU implementation has diverged further from the no-MMU version since
then, so this patch brings their locking and error handling into sync,
fixing the bug and hopefully avoiding similar issues in the future.

35d30c9cf1 iomap: don't skip reading in !uptodate folios when unsharing a range
Prior to commit a01b8f2252, we would always read in the contents of a
!uptodate folio prior to writing userspace data into the folio,
allocated a folio state object, etc.  Ritesh introduced an optimization
that skips all of that if the write would cover the entire folio.

Unfortunately, the optimization misses the unshare case, where we always
have to read in the folio contents since there isn't a data buffer
supplied by userspace.  This can result in stale kernel memory exposure
if userspace issues a FALLOC_FL_UNSHARE_RANGE call on part of a shared
file that isn't already cached.

This was caught by observing fstests regressions in the "unshare around"
mechanism that is used for unaligned writes to a reflinked realtime
volume when the realtime extent size is larger than 1FSB, though I think
it applies to any shared file.

df1c357f25 netfs: Only call folio_start_fscache() one time for each folio
If a network filesystem using netfs implements a clamp_length()
function, it can set subrequest lengths smaller than a page size.

When we loop through the folios in netfs_rreq_unlock_folios() to
set any folios to be written back, we need to make sure we only
call folio_start_fscache() once for each folio.

Otherwise, this simple testcase:

62862485a4 gfs2: fix glock shrinker ref issues
Before this patch, function gfs2_scan_glock_lru would only try to free
glocks that had a reference count of 0. But if the reference count ever
got to 0, the glock should have already been freed.

Shrinker function gfs2_dispose_glock_lru checks whether glocks on the
LRU are demote_ok, and if so, tries to demote them. But that's only
possible if the reference count is at least 1.

This patch changes gfs2_scan_glock_lru so it will try to demote and/or
dispose of glocks that have a reference count of 1 and which are either
demotable, or are already unlocked.

52954b7509 gfs2: Fix another freeze/thaw hang
On a thawed filesystem, the freeze glock is held in shared mode.  In
order to initiate a cluster-wide freeze, the node initiating the freeze
drops the freeze glock and grabs it in exclusive mode.  The other nodes
recognize this as contention on the freeze glock; function
freeze_go_callback is invoked.  This indicates to them that they must
freeze the filesystem locally, drop the freeze glock, and then
re-acquire it in shared mode before being able to unfreeze the
filesystem locally.

While a node is trying to re-acquire the freeze glock in shared mode,
additional contention can occur.  In that case, the node must behave in
the same way as above.

Unfortunately, freeze_go_callback() contains a check that causes it to
bail out when the freeze glock isn't held in shared mode.  Fix that to
allow the glock to be unlocked or held in shared mode.

In addition, update a reference to trylock_super() which has been
renamed to super_trylock_shared() in the meantime.

2816a09678 ceph: remove unnecessary check for NULL in parse_longname()
Function ceph_get_inode() never returns NULL; instead it returns an
ERR_PTR() if something fails.  Thus, the check for NULL in parse_longname()
is useless and can be dropped.  Instead, move there the debug code that
does the error checking so that it's only executed if ceph_get_inode() is
called.

42aadec8c7 stat: remove no-longer-used helper macros
The choose_32_64() macros were added to deal with an odd inconsistency
between the 32-bit and 64-bit layout of 'struct stat' way back when in
commit a52dd971f9 ("vfs: de-crapify "cp_new_stat()" function").

Then a decade later Mikulas noticed that said inconsistency had been a
mistake in the early x86-64 port, and shouldn't have existed in the
first place.  So commit 932aba1e16 ("stat: fix inconsistency between
struct stat and struct compat_stat") removed the uses of the helpers.

But the helpers remained around, unused.

Get rid of them.

4506f23e11 NFSv4.1: fix zero value filehandle in post open getattr
Currently, if the OPEN compound experiencing an error and needs to
get the file attributes separately, it will send a stand alone
GETATTR but it would use the filehandle from the results of
the OPEN compound. In case of the CLAIM_FH OPEN, nfs_openres's fh
is zero value. That generate a GETATTR that's sent with a zero
value filehandle, and results in the server returning an error.

Instead, for the CLAIM_FH OPEN, take the filehandle that was used
in the PUTFH of the OPEN compound.

The race leading to the problem happens like this:

1) Directory inode X is loaded into memory, its ->index_cnt field is
   initialized to (u64)-1 (at btrfs_alloc_inode());

2) Task A is adding a new file to directory X, holding its vfs inode lock,
   and calls btrfs_set_inode_index() to get an index number for the entry.

   Because the inode's index_cnt field is set to (u64)-1 it calls
   btrfs_inode_delayed_dir_index_count() which fails because no dir index
   entries were added yet to the delayed inode and then it calls
   btrfs_set_inode_index_count(). This functions finds the last dir index
   key and then sets index_cnt to that index value + 1. It found that the
   last index key has an offset of 100. However before it assigns a value
   of 101 to index_cnt...

3) Task B calls opendir(3), ending up at btrfs_opendir(), where the VFS
   lock for inode X is not taken, so it calls btrfs_get_dir_last_index()
   and sees index_cnt still with a value of (u64)-1. Because of that it
   calls btrfs_inode_delayed_dir_index_count() which fails since no dir
   index entries were added to the delayed inode yet, and then it also
   calls btrfs_set_inode_index_count(). This also finds that the last
   index key has an offset of 100, and before it assigns the value 101
   to the index_cnt field of inode X...

4) Task A assigns a value of 101 to index_cnt. And then the code flow
   goes to btrfs_set_inode_index() where it increments index_cnt from
   101 to 102. Task A then creates a delayed dir index entry with a
   sequence number of 101 and adds it to the delayed inode;

5) Task B assigns 101 to the index_cnt field of inode X;

6) At some later point when someone tries to add a new entry to the
   directory, btrfs_set_inode_index() will return 101 again and shortly
   after an attempt to add another delayed dir index key with index
   number 101 will fail with -EEXIST resulting in a transaction abort.

Fix this by locking the inode at btrfs_get_dir_last_index(), which is only
only used when opening a directory or attempting to lseek on it.

e60aa5da14 btrfs: refresh dir last index during a rewinddir(3) call
When opening a directory we find what's the index of its last entry and
then store it in the directory's file handle private data (struct
btrfs_file_private::last_index), so that in the case new directory entries
are added to a directory after an opendir(3) call we don't end up in an
infinite loop (see commit 9b378f6ad4 ("btrfs: fix infinite directory
reads")) when calling readdir(3).

However once rewinddir(3) is called, POSIX states [1] that any new
directory entries added after the previous opendir(3) call, must be
returned by subsequent calls to readdir(3):

  "The rewinddir() function shall reset the position of the directory
   stream to which dirp refers to the beginning of the directory.
   It shall also cause the directory stream to refer to the current
   state of the corresponding directory, as a call to opendir() would
   have done."

We currently don't refresh the last_index field of the struct
btrfs_file_private associated to the directory, so after a rewinddir(3)
we are not returning any new entries added after the opendir(3) call.

Fix this by finding the current last index of the directory when llseek
is called against the directory.

This can be reproduced by the following C program provided by Ian Johnson:

357950361c btrfs: set last dir index to the current last index when opening dir
When opening a directory for reading it, we set the last index where we
stop iteration to the value in struct btrfs_inode::index_cnt. That value
does not match the index of the most recently added directory entry but
it's instead the index number that will be assigned the next directory
entry.

This means that if after the call to opendir(3) new directory entries are
added, a readdir(3) call will return the first new directory entry. This
is fine because POSIX says the following [1]:

  "If a file is removed from or added to the directory after the most
   recent call to opendir() or rewinddir(), whether a subsequent call to
   readdir() returns an entry for that file is unspecified."

For example for the test script from commit 9b378f6ad4 ("btrfs: fix
infinite directory reads"), where we have 2000 files in a directory, ext4
doesn't return any new directory entry after opendir(3), while xfs returns
the first 13 new directory entries added after the opendir(3) call.

If we move to a shorter example with an empty directory when opendir(3) is
called, and 2 files added to the directory after the opendir(3) call, then
readdir(3) on btrfs will return the first file, ext4 and xfs return the 2
files (but in a different order). A test program for this, reported by
Ian Johnson, is the following:

last_index field of the struct btrfs_file_private attached to the
directory's file handle with a value matching btrfs_inode::index_cnt
minus 1, since that value always matches the index of the next new
directory entry and not the index of the most recently added entry.

With the configuration PAGE_SIZE 64k and filesystem blocksize 64k,
a problem occurred when more than 13 million files were directly created
under a directory:

When enough files are created, the fake_dirent->reclen will be 0xffff.
it doesn't equal to the blocksize 65536, i.e. 0x10000.

But it is not the same condition when blocksize equals to 4k.
when enough files are created, the fake_dirent->reclen will be 0x1000.
it equals to the blocksize 4k, i.e. 0x1000.

The problem seems to be related to the limitation of the 16-bit field
when the blocksize is set to 64k.
To address this, helpers like ext4_rec_len_{from,to}_disk has already
been introduced to complete the conversion between the encoded and the
plain form of rec_len.

So fix this one by using the helper, and all the other in this file too.

5229a658f6 ext4: do not let fstrim block system suspend
Len Brown has reported that system suspend sometimes fail due to
inability to freeze a task working in ext4_trim_fs() for one minute.
Trimming a large filesystem on a disk that slowly processes discard
requests can indeed take a long time. Since discard is just an advisory
call, it is perfectly fine to interrupt it at any time and the return
number of discarded blocks until that moment. Do that when we detect the
task is being frozen.

Currently we set the group's trimmed bit in ext4_trim_all_free() based
on return value of ext4_try_to_trim_range(). However when we will want
to abort trimming because of suspend attempt, we want to return success
from ext4_try_to_trim_range() but not set the trimmed bit. Instead
implementing awkward propagation of this information, just move setting
of trimmed bit into ext4_try_to_trim_range() when the whole group is
trimmed.

The root cause was traced to an error handing path in journal_init_common()
when malloc memory failed in register_shrinker(). The checksum driver is
used to reference to checksum algorithm via cryptoapi and the user should
release the memory when the driver is no longer needed or the journal
initialization failed.

Fix it by calling crypto_free_shash() on the "err_cleanup" error handing
path in journal_init_common().

   dcache_dir_open_wrapper(). One iteration of the code used RCU
   but because it had to call sleepable code, it had to be changed
   to use SRCU, but one of the iterations was missed.

   the offset and len fields for which one was for which endianess.

 - Fix NULL pointer dereference with eventfs_remove_rec()

   If an allocation fails in one of the eventfs_add_*() functions, the
   caller of it in event_subsystem_dir() or event_create_dir() assigns
   the result to the structure. But it's assigning the ERR_PTR and not
   NULL. This was passed to eventfs_remove_rec() which expects either a
   good pointer or a NULL, not ERR_PTR. The fix is to not assign the
   ERR_PTR to the structure, but to keep it NULL on error.

 - Fix list_for_each_rcu() to use list_for_each_srcu() in
   dcache_dir_open_wrapper(). One iteration of the code used RCU but
   because it had to call sleepable code, it had to be changed to use
   SRCU, but one of the iterations was missed.

 - Fix synthetic event print function to use "as_u64" instead of passing
   in a pointer to the union. To fix big/little endian issues, the u64
   that represented several types was turned into a union to define the
   types properly.

b595d25996 btrfs: don't clear uptodate on write errors
We have been consistently seeing hangs with generic/648 in our subpage
GitHub CI setup.  This is a classic deadlock, we are calling
btrfs_read_folio() on a folio, which requires holding the folio lock on
the folio, and then finding a ordered extent that overlaps that range
and calling btrfs_start_ordered_extent(), which then tries to write out
the dirty page, which requires taking the folio lock and then we
deadlock.

The hang happens because we're writing to range [1271750656, 1271767040),
page index [77621, 77622], and page 77621 is !Uptodate.  It is also Dirty,
so we call btrfs_read_folio() for 77621 and which does
btrfs_lock_and_flush_ordered_range() for that range, and we find an ordered
extent which is [1271644160, 1271746560), page index [77615, 77621].
The page indexes overlap, but the actual bytes don't overlap.  We're
holding the page lock for 77621, then call
btrfs_lock_and_flush_ordered_range() which tries to flush the dirty
page, and tries to lock 77621 again and then we deadlock.

The byte ranges do not overlap, but with subpage support if we clear
uptodate on any portion of the page we mark the entire thing as not
uptodate.

We have been clearing page uptodate on write errors, but no other file
system does this, and is in fact incorrect.  This doesn't hurt us in the
!subpage case because we can't end up with overlapped ranges that don't
also overlap on the page.

Fix this by not clearing uptodate when we have a write error.  The only
thing we should be doing in this case is setting the mapping error and
carrying on.  This makes it so we would no longer call
btrfs_read_folio() on the page as it's uptodate and eliminates the
deadlock.

With this patch we're now able to make it through a full fstests run on
our subpage blocksize VMs.

Note for stable backports: this probably goes beyond 6.1 but the code
has been cleaned up and clearing the uptodate bit must be verified on
each version independently.

9af86694fd btrfs: file_remove_privs needs an exclusive lock in direct io write
This was noticed by Miklos that file_remove_privs might call into
notify_change(), which requires to hold an exclusive lock. The problem
exists in FUSE and btrfs. We can fix it without any additional helpers
from VFS, in case the privileges would need to be dropped, change the
lock type to be exclusive and redo the loop.

Remove a number of hidden calls to compound_head() by using a folio
throughout.  Also follow core kernel coding style by adding the folio to
the page cache immediately after allocation instead of doing the read
first, then adding it to the page cache.  This ordering makes subsequent
readers block waiting for the first reader instead of duplicating the
work only to throw it away when they find out they lost the race.

806a3bc421 NFSv4.1: fix pnfs MDS=DS session trunking
Currently, when GETDEVICEINFO returns multiple locations where each
is a different IP but the server's identity is same as MDS, then
nfs4_set_ds_client() finds the existing nfs_client structure which
has the MDS's max_connect value (and if it's 1), then the 1st IP
on the DS's list will get dropped due to MDS trunking rules. Other
IPs would be added as they fall under the pnfs trunking rules.

For the list of IPs the 1st goes thru calling nfs4_set_ds_client()
which will eventually call nfs4_add_trunk() and call into
rpc_clnt_test_and_add_xprt() which has the check for MDS trunking.
The other IPs (after the 1st one), would call rpc_clnt_add_xprt()
which doesn't go thru that check.

nfs4_add_trunk() is called when MDS trunking is happening and it
needs to enforce the usage of max_connect mount option of the
1st mount. However, this shouldn't be applied to pnfs flow.

Instead, this patch proposed to treat MDS=DS as DS trunking and
make sure that MDS's max_connect limit does not apply to the
1st IP returned in the GETDEVICEINFO list. It does so by
marking the newly created client with a new flag NFS_CS_PNFS
which then used to pass max_connect value to use into the
rpc_clnt_test_and_add_xprt() instead of the existing rpc
client's max_connect value set by the MDS connection.

For example, mount was done without max_connect value set
so MDS's rpc client has cl_max_connect=1. Upon calling into
rpc_clnt_test_and_add_xprt() and using rpc client's value,
the caller passes in max_connect value which is previously
been set in the pnfs path (as a part of handling
GETDEVICEINFO list of IPs) in nfs4_set_ds_client().

However, when NFS_CS_PNFS flag is not set and we know we
are doing MDS trunking, comparing a new IP of the same
server, we then set the max_connect value to the
existing MDS's value and pass that into
rpc_clnt_test_and_add_xprt().

8b010acb31 xfs: use roundup_pow_of_two instead of ffs during xlog_find_tail
In our production environment, we find that mounting a 500M /boot
which is umount cleanly needs ~6s. One cause is that ffs() is
used by xlog_write_log_records() to decide the buffer size. It
can cause a lot of small IO easily when xlog_clear_stale_blocks()
needs to wrap around the end of log area and log head block is
not power of two. Things are similar in xlog_find_verify_cycle().

The code is able to handed bigger buffer very well, we can use
roundup_pow_of_two() to replace ffs() directly to avoid small
and sychronous IOs.

f41d7d70b0 xfs: fix ro mounting with unknown rocompat features [v2]
Dave pointed out some failures in xfs/270 when he upgraded Debian
 unstable and util-linux started using the new mount apis.  Upon further
 inquiry I noticed that XFS is quite a hot mess when it encounters a
 filesystem with unrecognized rocompat bits set in the superblock.
 
 Whereas we used to allow readonly mounts under these conditions, a
 change to the sb write verifier several years ago resulted in the
 filesystem going down immediately because the post-mount log cleaning
 writes the superblock, which trips the sb write verifier on the
 unrecognized rocompat bit.  I made the observation that the ROCOMPAT
 features RMAPBT and REFLINK both protect new log intent item types,
 which means that we actually cannot support recovering the log if we
 don't recognize all the rocompat bits.
 
 Therefore -- fix inode inactivation to work when we're recovering the
 log, disallow recovery when there's unrecognized rocompat bits, and
 don't clean the log if doing so would trip the rocompat checks.

xfs: fix ro mounting with unknown rocompat features

Dave pointed out some failures in xfs/270 when he upgraded Debian
unstable and util-linux started using the new mount apis.  Upon further
inquiry I noticed that XFS is quite a hot mess when it encounters a
filesystem with unrecognized rocompat bits set in the superblock.

Whereas we used to allow readonly mounts under these conditions, a
change to the sb write verifier several years ago resulted in the
filesystem going down immediately because the post-mount log cleaning
writes the superblock, which trips the sb write verifier on the
unrecognized rocompat bit.  I made the observation that the ROCOMPAT
features RMAPBT and REFLINK both protect new log intent item types,
which means that we actually cannot support recovering the log if we
don't recognize all the rocompat bits.

Therefore -- fix inode inactivation to work when we're recovering the
log, disallow recovery when there's unrecognized rocompat bits, and
don't clean the log if doing so would trip the rocompat checks.

Ritesh and Eric separately reported crashes in XFS's hook function for
 CPU hot remove if the remove event races with a filesystem being
 mounted.  I also noticed via generic/650 that once in a while the log
 will shut down over an apparent overrun of a transaction reservation;
 this turned out to be due to CIL percpu list aggregation failing to pick
 up the percpu list items from a dying CPU.
 
 Either way, the solution here is to eliminate the need for a CPU dying
 hook by using a private cpumask to track which CPUs have added to their
 percpu lists directly, and iterating with that mask.  This fixes the log
 problems and (I think) solves a theoretical UAF bug in the inodegc code
 too.
 
 v2: fix a few put_cpu uses, add necessary memory barriers, and use
     atomic cpumask operations
 
 This has been lightly tested with fstests.  Enjoy!

The root cause here is that xchk_stats_merge_one walks off the end of
the xchk_scrub_stats.cs_stats array because it has been fed a garbage
value in sm->sm_type.  That occurs because I put the xchk_stats_merge
in the wrong place -- it should have been after the last xchk_teardown
call on our way out of xfs_scrub_metadata because we only call the
teardown function if we called the setup function, and we don't call the
setup functions if the inputs are obviously garbage.

Thanks to Harshit for triaging the bug reports and bringing this to my
attention.

34389616a9 xfs: require a relatively recent V5 filesystem for LARP mode
While reviewing the FIEXCHANGE code in XFS, I realized that the function
that enables logged xattrs doesn't actually check that the superblock
has a LOG_INCOMPAT feature bit field.  Add a check to refuse the
operation if we don't have a V5 filesystem...

...but on second though, let's require either reflink or rmap so that we
only have to deal with LARP mode on relatively /modern/ kernel.  4.14 is
about as far back as I feel like going.

Seeing as LARP is a debugging-only option anyway, this isn't likely to
affect any real users.

49813a21ed xfs: make inode unlinked bucket recovery work with quotacheck
Teach quotacheck to reload the unlinked inode lists when walking the
inode table.  This requires extra state handling, since it's possible
that a reloaded inode will get inactivated before quotacheck tries to
scan it; in this case, we need to ensure that the reloaded inode does
not have dquots attached when it is freed.
