ace0ab3a4b Revert "vlan: Fix VLAN 0 memory leak"
This reverts commit 718cb09aaa.

The commit triggers multiple syzbot issues, probably due to possibility of
manually creating VLAN 0 on netdevice which will cause the code to delete
it since it can't distinguish such VLAN from implicit VLAN 0 automatically
created for devices with NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER feature.

718cb09aaa vlan: Fix VLAN 0 memory leak
The referenced commit intended to fix memleak of VLAN 0 that is implicitly
created on devices with NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_FILTER feature. However, it
doesn't take into account that the feature can be re-set during the
netdevice lifetime which will cause memory leak if feature is disabled
during the device deletion as illustrated by [0]. Fix the leak by
unconditionally deleting VLAN 0 on NETDEV_DOWN event.

65c9fde15a net: vlan: convert to ndo_hwtstamp_get() / ndo_hwtstamp_set()
8021q is one of the stackable net devices which pass the hardware
timestamping ops to the real device through ndo_eth_ioctl(). This
prevents converting any device driver to the new hwtimestamping API
without regressions.

Remove that limitation in the vlan driver by using the newly introduced
helpers for timestamping through lower devices, that handle both the new
and the old driver API.

dacab578c7 vlan: fix a potential uninit-value in vlan_dev_hard_start_xmit()
syzbot triggered the following splat [1], sending an empty message
through pppoe_sendmsg().

When VLAN_FLAG_REORDER_HDR flag is set, vlan_dev_hard_header()
does not push extra bytes for the VLAN header, because vlan is offloaded.

Unfortunately vlan_dev_hard_start_xmit() first reads veth->h_vlan_proto
before testing (vlan->flags & VLAN_FLAG_REORDER_HDR).

We need to swap the two conditions.

731b73dba3 vlan: partially enable SIOCSHWTSTAMP in container
Setting timestamp filter was explicitly disabled on vlan devices in
containers because it might affect other processes on the host. But it's

d120d1a63b net: Remove the obsolte u64_stats_fetch_*_irq() users (net).
Now that the 32bit UP oddity is gone and 32bit uses always a sequence
count, there is no need for the fetch_irq() variants anymore.

35ffb66547 net: gro: skb_gro_header helper function
Introduce a simple helper function to replace a common pattern.
When accessing the GRO header, we fetch the pointer from frag0,
then test its validity and fetch it from the skb when necessary.

This leads to the pattern
skb_gro_header_fast -> skb_gro_header_hard -> skb_gro_header_slow
recurring many times throughout GRO code.

This patch replaces these patterns with a single inlined function
call, improving code readability.

72a0b32911 vlan: fix memory leak in vlan_newlink()
Blamed commit added back a bug I fixed in commit 9bbd917e0b
("vlan: fix memory leak in vlan_dev_set_egress_priority")

If a memory allocation fails in vlan_changelink() after other allocations
succeeded, we need to call vlan_dev_free_egress_priority()
to free all allocated memory because after a failed ->newlink()
we do not call any methods like ndo_uninit() or dev->priv_destructor().

In following example, if the allocation for last element 2000:2001 fails,
we need to free eight prior allocations:

d62607c3fe net: rename reference+tracking helpers
Netdev reference helpers have a dev_ prefix for historic
reasons. Renaming the old helpers would be too much churn
but we can rename the tracking ones which are relatively
recent and should be the default for new code.

Rename:
 dev_hold_track()    -> netdev_hold()
 dev_put_track()     -> netdev_put()
 dev_replace_track() -> netdev_ref_replace()

6df6398f7c net: add netif_inherit_tso_max()
To make later patches smaller create a helper for inheriting
the TSO limitations of a lower device. The TSO in the name
is not an accident, subsequent patches will replace GSO
with TSO in more names.

d6ff94afd9 vlan: move dev_put into vlan_dev_uninit
Shuang Li reported an QinQ issue by simply doing:

  # ip link add dummy0 type dummy
  # ip link add link dummy0 name dummy0.1 type vlan id 1
  # ip link add link dummy0.1 name dummy0.1.2 type vlan id 2
  # rmmod 8021q

 unregister_netdevice: waiting for dummy0.1 to become free. Usage count = 1

When rmmods 8021q, all vlan devs are deleted from their real_dev's vlan grp
and added into list_kill by unregister_vlan_dev(). dummy0.1 is unregistered
before dummy0.1.2, as it's using for_each_netdev() in __rtnl_kill_links().

When unregisters dummy0.1, dummy0.1.2 is not unregistered in the event of
NETDEV_UNREGISTER, as it's been deleted from dummy0.1's vlan grp. However,
due to dummy0.1.2 still holding dummy0.1, dummy0.1 will keep waiting in
netdev_wait_allrefs(), while dummy0.1.2 will never get unregistered and
release dummy0.1, as it delays dev_put until calling dev->priv_destructor,
vlan_dev_free().

This issue was introduced by Commit 563bcbae3b ("net: vlan: fix a UAF in
vlan_dev_real_dev()"), and this patch is to fix it by moving dev_put() into
vlan_dev_uninit(), which is called after NETDEV_UNREGISTER event but before
netdev_wait_allrefs().

Inject error before dev_hold(real_dev) in register_vlan_dev(),
and execute the following testcase:

When the dummy netdevice is removed, we will get a WARNING as following:

That is because dev_put(real_dev) in vlan_dev_free() be called without
dev_hold(real_dev) in register_vlan_dev(). It makes the refcnt of real_dev
underflow.

Move the dev_hold(real_dev) to vlan_dev_init() which is the call-back of
ndo_init(). That makes dev_hold() and dev_put() for vlan's real_dev
symmetrical.

2106efda78 net: remove .ndo_change_proto_down
.ndo_change_proto_down was added seemingly to enable out-of-tree
implementations. Over 2.5yrs later we still have no real users
upstream. Hardwire the generic implementation for now, we can
revert once real users materialize. (rocker is a test vehicle,
not a user.)

We need to drop the optimization on the sysfs side, because
unlike ndos priv_flags will be changed at runtime, so we'd
need READ_ONCE/WRITE_ONCE everywhere..

a76053707d dev_ioctl: split out ndo_eth_ioctl
Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement
the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware
timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP.

Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to
implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands.

This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find
their way through the implementation.

illegal VLAN device address, but the VLAN device address saved in vmcore
is correct. After checking the code, we found a possible data
competition:

in kzalloc() is executed before assigning  value to vlan devices array:

Because __vlan_group_get_device() function depends on this order.
otherwise we may get a wrong address from the hardware cache on

of memory operations.

either add or remove a tag. When vlan filtering is enabled, the fdb lookup

4a6e7ec93a vlan/8021q: avoid retpoline overhead on GRO
The two most popular headers going after VLAN are IPv4 and IPv6.
Retpoline overhead for them is addressed only in dev_gro_receive(),
when they lie right after the outermost Ethernet header.
Use the indirect call wrappers in VLAN GRO receive code to reduce
the penalty on receiving tagged frames (when hardware stripping is
off or not available).

c269a24ce0 net: make free_netdev() more lenient with unregistering devices
There are two flavors of handling netdev registration:
 - ones called without holding rtnl_lock: register_netdev() and
   unregister_netdev(); and
 - those called with rtnl_lock held: register_netdevice() and
   unregister_netdevice().

While the semantics of the former are pretty clear, the same can't
be said about the latter. The netdev_todo mechanism is utilized to
perform some of the device unregistering tasks and it hooks into
rtnl_unlock() so the locked variants can't actually finish the work.
In general free_netdev() does not mix well with locked calls. Most
drivers operating under rtnl_lock set dev->needs_free_netdev to true
and expect core to make the free_netdev() call some time later.

The part where this becomes most problematic is error paths. There is
no way to unwind the state cleanly after a call to register_netdevice(),
since unreg can't be performed fully without dropping locks.

Make free_netdev() more lenient, and defer the freeing if device
is being unregistered. This allows error paths to simply call
free_netdev() both after register_netdevice() failed, and after
a call to unregister_netdevice() but before dropping rtnl_lock.

Simplify the error paths which are currently doing gymnastics
around free_netdev() handling.

d0186842ec net: vlan: Avoid using BUG() in vlan_proto_idx()
While we should always make sure that we specify a valid VLAN protocol
to vlan_proto_idx(), killing the machine when an invalid value is
specified is too harsh and not helpful for debugging. All callers are
capable of dealing with an error returned by vlan_proto_idx() so check
the index value and propagate it accordingly.

be74294ffa net: get rid of lockdep_set_class_and_subclass()
lockdep_set_class_and_subclass() is meant to reduce
the _nested() annotations by assigning a default subclass.
For addr_list_lock, we have to compute the subclass at
run-time as the netdevice topology changes after creation.

So, we should just get rid of these
lockdep_set_class_and_subclass() and stick with our _nested()
annotations.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

845e0ebb44 net: change addr_list_lock back to static key
The dynamic key update for addr_list_lock still causes troubles,
for example the following race condition still exists:

CPU 0:				CPU 1:
(RCU read lock)			(RTNL lock)
dev_mc_seq_show()		netdev_update_lockdep_key()
				  -> lockdep_unregister_key()
 -> netif_addr_lock_bh()

because lockdep doesn't provide an API to update it atomically.
Therefore, we have to move it back to static keys and use subclass
for nest locking like before.

In commit 1a33e10e4a ("net: partially revert dynamic lockdep key
changes"), I already reverted most parts of commit ab92d68fc2
("net: core: add generic lockdep keys").

This patch reverts the rest and also part of commit f3b0a18bb6
("net: remove unnecessary variables and callback"). After this
patch, addr_list_lock changes back to using static keys and
subclasses to satisfy lockdep. Thanks to dev->lower_level, we do
not have to change back to ->ndo_get_lock_subclass().

And hopefully this reduces some syzbot lockdep noises too.
