acfedcbe1c ALSA: firewire-lib: postpone to start IR context
Some devices have a quirk to postpone transmission of isoc packet for
several dozen or hundred isoc cycles since configured to transmit.
Furthermore, some devices have a quirk to transmit isoc packet with
discontinued data of its header.

In 1394 OHCI specification, software allows to start isoc context with
certain isoc cycle. Linux firewire subsystem has kernel API to use it
as well.

This commit uses the functionality of 1394 OHCI controller to handle
the quirks. At present, this feature is convenient to ALSA bebob and
fireface driver. As a result, some devices can be safely handled, as
long as I know:
 - MAudio FireWire solo
 - MAudio ProFire Lightbridge
 - MAudio FireWire 410
 - Roland FA-66

60dd49298e ALSA: firewire-lib: handle several AMDTP streams in callback handler of IRQ target
This commit changes AMDTP domain to run on an IT context of 1394 OHCI as
IRQ target. No hardware interrupt is scheduled for the other isoc
contexts. All of the isoc context are processed in a callback for an isoc
context of IRQ target.

The IRQ target is automatically selected from a list of AMDTP streams,
thus users of AMDTP domain should add an AMDTP stream for IT context
at least.

The reason to select IT context as IRQ target is that the IT context
runs on local 1394 OHCI controller and it can be used as reliable,
constant IRQ generator. On the other hand, IR context can include skip
cycle according to isoc packet transferred by device.

813dfbd684 ALSA: firewire-lib: cancel flushing isoc context in the laste step to process context callback
The aim of AMDTP domain is to process several isoc context in the same
time. However, current implementation is against this idea because it
flushes each isoc context in the end of processing context callback.

This commit cancels it.

f706df4f42 ALSA: firewire-lib: tune the minimum available size of PCM period
In IEC 61883-1/6, one isoc packet can transfer events up to the value of
syt interval. This comes from the interval of isoc cycle. As 1394 OHCI
controller can generate hardware IRQ per isoc packet, the interval is
calculated as 125 usec.

In IEC 61883-1/6, two ways of transmission is described; blocking and
non-blocking methods. In blocking method, the sequence of packet includes
'empty' or 'NODATA' packets which include no events. In non-blocking
method, the number of events per packet is variable up to the syt
interval.

This commit uses double of the value of syt interval as minimum available
size of PCM period due to the above protocol design.

99921ec67d ALSA: firewire-lib: tune the maximum available size of PCM period
Linux driver for 1394 OHCI controller voluntarily flushes isoc context
when total size of accumulated context header reached PAGE_SIZE. This
kicks tasklet for the isoc context. This is inconvenient to process
runtime of PCM substream.

This commit adds a restriction of the maximum size of PCM period to
avoid this behaviour.

e229853d50 ALSA: firewire-lib: schedule hardware IRQ according to the size of PCM period
ALSA IEC 61883-1/6 packet streaming engine controls 1394 OHCI controller
to generate hardware IRQ for fixed number of isochronous packets (=16)
since its first commit.

This commit allow the engine to generate it for variable period according
to the number of event to handle. For outgoing stream, internal
calculator is used to check the accumulated events. For incoming stream,
the number of data block in the packet of stream is used to check the
accumulated events. When it's unavailable, fixed number of packet
roughly calculated in advance is used instead of event counting.

a0e023317e ALSA: firewire-lib: use variable size of queue for isoc packets instead of fixed size
The number of packets in packet buffer has been fixed number (=48) since
first commit of ALSA IEC 61883-1/6 packet streaming engine.

This commit allows the engine to use variable number of packets in the
buffer. The size is calculated by a parameter in AMDTP domain structure
surely to store the number of events in the packets of buffer. Although
the value of parameter is expected to come from 'period size' parameter
of PCM substream, at present 48 is still used.

3aac326341 ALSA: fireface: use the same size of period for PCM substreams in AMDTP streams
In current implementation, when opening a PCM substream, it's needed to
check whether the opposite PCM substream runs. This is to assign
effectual constraints (e.g. sampling rate) to opened PCM substream.

The number of PCM substreams on AMDTP streams in domain is recorded in
own structure. Usage of this count is an alternative of the above check.
This is better because the count is incremented in pcm.hw_params earlier
than pcm.trigger.

This commit replaces the check with the substream count and the value for
the size of PCM period. Unlike the other drivers in ALSA firewire stack,
no MIDI substream is multiplexed into AMDTP stream.

I note that Fireface AMDTP protocol has a quirk that tx stream includes
blank isochronous cycle. The packet for blank cycle is equivalent to
empty or NODATA packet in IEC 61883-6, thus the protocol is similar to
blocking transmission method of IEC 61883-6. On the other hand, rx
stream adopts non-blocking transmission method. Although the difference
of transmission method between tx/rx streams precisely brings different
timing for a certain amount of events due to their different calculation
for data blocks per packet, it's possible to approximate enough amount
of events mostly has the same timing. Actually current ALSA IEC 61883-1/6
engine uses large amount of data blocks for each hardware IRQ
(=16 packets).

well. In current implementation, for a case that any MIDI substream run
and a PCM substream is going to start, PCM application to start the PCM
substream can decide hardware parameters by restart packet streaming.
Just checking the substream count can brings regression.

Now AMDTP domain structure has a member for the size of PCM period in

d68c3123ba ALSA: firewire-lib: add a member into AMDTP domain for events per period
In IEC 61883-6, it's called as 'event' what has presentation time
represented by timestamp in CIP header. Although the ratio of the number
of event against the number of data block is different depending on
event data type represented by the specific field in CIP header, it's
just one in the most cases supported by ALSA IEC 61883-1/6 engine.

In 1394 OHCI specification, applications can schedule hardware IRQ
by configuring descriptor with IRQ flag for packet against each
isochronous cycle. For future commit, I use the hardware IRQ for
isoc IT context to acknowledge the elapse of PCM period for both
playback/capture directions on AMDTP streams in the same domain.

This commit is a preparation for the above idea. This commit adds
a member into AMDTP domain structure to record the number of PCM frames.

3a9236e972 ALSA: dice: fix wrong packet parameter for Alesis iO26
At higher sampling rate (e.g. 192.0 kHz), Alesis iO26 transfers 4 data
channels per data block in CIP.

Both iO14 and iO26 have the same contents in their configuration ROM.
For this reason, ALSA Dice driver attempts to distinguish them according
to the value of TX0_AUDIO register at probe callback. Although the way is
valid at lower and middle sampling rate, it's lastly invalid at higher
sampling rate because because the two models returns the same value for
read transaction to the register.

In the most cases, users just plug-in the device and ALSA dice driver
detects it. In the case, the device runs at lower sampling rate and
the driver detects expectedly. For this reason, this commit leaves the
way to detect as is.

e1a00b5b25 ALSA: firewire-tascam: check intermediate state of clock status and retry
2 bytes in MSB of register for clock status is zero during intermediate
state after changing status of sampling clock in models of TASCAM FireWire
series. The duration of this state differs depending on cases. During the
state, it's better to retry reading the register for current status of
the clock.

In current implementation, the intermediate state is checked only when
getting current sampling transmission frequency, then retry reading.
This care is required for the other operations to read the register.

This commit moves the codes of check and retry into helper function
commonly used for operations to read the register.

8d0d5c3fa1 ALSA: firewire-lib: remove WARN_ON() at destruction of AMDTP domain
The destructor of AMDTP domain has WARN_ON() for the list of associated

program consumer drivers to stop AMDTP domain, it hits when AMDTP domain

fails as well and it's superfluous.

This commit removes the WARN_ON. Although the API to AMDTP domain does

e6e2fe2b8f ALSA: firewire-tascam: add note for FE-8
TASCAM FE-8 is the rest of model in TASCAM FireWire series. This device
has no functionality to process audio signal and MIDI messages. Instead,
it transfers control messages to host system corresponding to operations
for some faders, buttons and knobs on its surface.

Unlike the other devices in this series, the control messages are
transmitted by asynchronous transactions. Some registers of device are
used for registration of destination address for the transaction. The
transaction includes quadlet-aligned data up to 32 quadlets.

Userspace applications can receive the transaction and parse it for
control message via Linux FireWire subsystem, without any support by
ALSA firewire-tascam driver. Therefore the driver gives no support
for it.

This commit removes placeholder for FE-8 and add some comment for its
functionalities as notes.

6af86bdb8a ALSA: firewire-motu: add support for MOTU 4pre
MOTU 4pre was launched in 2012 by MOTU, Inc. This commit allows userspace
applications can transmit and receive PCM frames and MIDI messages for
this model via ALSA PCM interface and RawMidi/Sequencer interfaces.

The device supports MOTU protocol version 3. Unlike the other devices, the
device is simply designed. The size of data block is fixed to 10 quadlets
during available sampling rates (44.1 - 96.0 kHz). Each data block
includes 1 source packet header, 2 data chunks for messages, 8 data chunks
for PCM samples and 2 data chunks for padding to quadlet alignment. The
device has no MIDI, optical, BNC and AES/EBU interfaces.

Like support for the other MOTU devices, the quality of playback sound
is not enough good with periodical noise yet.

588f2e2caf ALSA: firewire-lib: obsolete ctx_data.tx.first_dbc with CIP_UNALIGHED_DBC flag
Recent firmware for Fireworks board module have a quirk to start
transmission of CIP with non-zero value for its data block counter.
In current implementation of ALSA firewire stack, the quirk is handled
by 'struct amdtp_stream.ctx_data.tx.first_dbc' with value 0x02. However,
the value comes from reverse engineering. It's better to handle this
quirk without the explicit value.

In a process to parse CIP header, the quirk of data block counter
affects decision of sequence index in sequence-multiplexed data channel;
i.e. MIDI conformant data channel. In Fireworks, the index is decided
by the number of data blocks from top of the same CIP, thus the value
of data block counter is useless.

This commit adds CIP_UNALIGHED_DBC flag and obsoletes the explicit
value for this quirk.

e79c3f0c00 ALSA: dice: fix wrong reference count for stream functionality at error path of rawmidi interface
In IEC 61883-6, several types of sampling data can be multiplexed into

ALSA dice driver allows applications of rawmidi interface to start

7fbd1753b6 ALSA: firewire-lib/fireworks: fix miss detection of received MIDI messages
In IEC 61883-6, 8 MIDI data streams are multiplexed into single
MIDI conformant data channel. The index of stream is calculated by
modulo 8 of the value of data block counter.

In fireworks, the value of data block counter in CIP header has a quirk
with firmware version v5.0.0, v5.7.3 and v5.8.0. This brings ALSA
IEC 61883-1/6 packet streaming engine to miss detection of MIDI
messages.

This commit fixes the miss detection to modify the value of data block
counter for the modulo calculation.

For maintainers, this bug exists since a commit 18f5ed365d ("ALSA:
fireworks/firewire-lib: add support for recent firmware quirk") in Linux
kernel v4.2. There're many changes since the commit. This fix can be
backported to Linux kernel v4.4 or later. I tagged a base commit to the
backport for your convenience.

Besides, my work for Linux kernel v5.3 brings heavy code refactoring and
some structure members are renamed in 'sound/firewire/amdtp-stream.h'.
The content of this patch brings conflict when merging -rc tree with
this patch and the latest tree. I request maintainers to solve the
conflict to replace 'tx_first_dbc' with 'ctx_data.tx.first_dbc'.

973b059ca9 ALSA: firewire-lib: fix to process MIDI conformant data channel for AM824 format
In IEC 61883-6, 8 MIDI data streams are multiplexed into single MIDI
conformant data channel. The index of stream is calculated by modulo 8
of the value of data block counter. Therefore data block processing
layer requires valid value of data block counter.

In recent changes of ALSA IEC 61883-1/6 engine, the value of data block
counter is changed before calling data block processing layer. This
brings miss detection of MIDI messages in non-blocking transmission
method is used.

This commit fixes the bug by changing chached data block counter after
calling data block processing layer.

76864868db ALSA: firewire-lib: cache next data_block_counter after probing tracepoints event for IR context
For debugging purpose, ALSA IEC 61883-1/6 engine has tracepoints event.
In current implementation, next data block counter is stored as current
data block counter before probing the event for IR isoc context. It's not
good to check current packet parameter.

This commit changes to assign the next data block counter after probing
the event.

Besides, Fireworks devices has a quirk to transfer isoc packet with
data block counter for the last data block. For this quirk, the
assignment is done before calling data block processing layer.

2d103420c6 ALSA: firewire-motu: update isochronous resources when starting packet streaming after bus-reset
After bus reset, isochronous resource manager releases all of allocated
isochronous resources. The nodes to transfer isochronous packet should
request reallocation of the resources.

However, between the bus-reset and invocation of 'struct fw_driver.update'
handler, ALSA PCM application can detect this situation by XRUN because
the target device cancelled to transmit packets once bus-reset occurs.

Due to the above mechanism, ALSA fireface driver just stops packet
streaming in the update handler, thus pcm.prepare handler should
request the reallocation.

This commit requests the reallocation in pcm.prepare callback when
bus generation is changed.

8edc56ec8f ALSA: firewire-motu: reserve/release isochronous resources in pcm.hw_params/hw_free callbacks
Once allocated, isochronous resources are available for packet
streaming, even if the streaming is cancelled. For this reason,
current implementation handles allocation of the resources and
starting packet streaming at the same time. However, this brings
complicated procedure to start packet streaming.

This commit separates the allocation and starting. The allocation is
done in pcm.hw_params callback and available till pcm.hw_free callback.
Even if any XRUN occurs, pcm.prepare callback is done to restart
packet streaming without releasing/allocating the resources.

There are two points to stop packet streaming; in pcm.hw_params and
pcm.prepare callbacks. The former point is a case that packet streaming
is already started for any MIDI substream then packet streaming is
requested with different sampling transfer frequency for any PCM
substream. The latter point is cases of any XRUN or packet queueing
error.

In current implementation, establishment connection corresponds to
allocation of isochronous resources. Although this is an ideal

efficient to recover PCM substream multiplexed in packet streaming.
The packet streaming can always restart on the same allocated

corrupted.

779f0dba0b ALSA: oxfw: rename helper functions for duplex streams
In former commits, ALSA oxfw driver handles two isochronous contexts
at the same time, except for some devices which supports one endpoint
of isochronous packet stream.

This commit renames some helper functions so that they handles duplex
streams.
