External HDMI receivers have analog circuitry that needs to be powered-on
when exiting standby, and a mechanism to detect PCM v. IEC61937 data.
These two steps take time and up to 2-3 seconds of audio may be muted
when starting playback.
Intel hardware (Haswell and beyond) can keep the link active
with a 'silent stream', so that the receiver does not go through those
two steps when valid audio is transmitted. This mechanism relies
on an setting the channel_id as 0xf, sending info packet and preventing
the codec from going to D3, which will increase the platform
static power consumption. The info packet assumes a basic 2ch stereo,
and the silent stream is enabled when connecting a monitor.
In case of format changes the detection of PCM v. IEC61937 needs to
be re-run. In this case there is no way to avoid the 2-3s mute.
The silent stream is enabled with a Kconfig option, as well as a kernel
parameter should there be a need to override the build time default.
This approach is used based on the power_save capability as an example,
but in the future, it may be used with a kcontrol,
depending on UCM support for HDaudio legacy.

A new helper, snd_hda_gen_add_micmute_led_cdev(), is introduced here
for creating a LED classdev and setting up the hook to the capture
control for controlling the mic-mute LED to follow the capture switch
change. This will replace the existing users of
snd_hda_gen_add_micmute_led() in later patches.
Also, introduce a new kconfig CONFIG_SND_HDA_GENERIC_LEDS, to indicate
the usage of mute / mic-mute LED helpers. It's selected by the codec
drivers (Realtek, Conexant and Sigmatel), while it selects the
necessary LED class dependencies.

If SND_HDA_CODEC_CA0132 is enabled, the DSP support should be enabled as
well. Disabled DSP support leads to a hanging alsa system and no sound
output on the card otherwise. Tested on:

For distributions, we need one place where we can decide
which driver will be activated for the auto-configation of the
Intel's HDA hardware with DSP. Actually, we cover three drivers:
* Legacy HDA
* Intel SST
* Intel Sound Open Firmware (SOF)
All those drivers registers similar PCI IDs, so the first
driver probed from the PCI stack can win. But... it is not
guaranteed that the correct driver wins.
This commit changes Intel's NHLT ACPI module to a common
DSP probe module for the Intel's hardware. All above sound
drivers calls this code. The user can force another behaviour
using the module parameter 'dsp_driver' located in
the 'snd-intel-dspcfg' module.
This change allows to add specific dmi checks for the specific
systems. The examples are taken from the pull request:

HD-audio drivers access to the mmio registers indirectly via the
corresponding bus->io_ops callbacks. This is because some platform
(notably Tegra SoC) requires the word-aligned access. But it's rather
a rare case, and other platforms suffer from the penalties by indirect
calls unnecessarily.
This patch is an attempt to optimize and cleanup for this situation.
Now the special aligned access is used only when a new kconfig
CONFIG_SND_HDA_ALIGNED_MMIO is set. And the HD-audio core itself
provides the aligned MMIO access helpers instead of the driver side.
If Kconfig isn't set (as default), the standard helpers like readl()
or writel() are used directly.
A couple of places in ASoC Intel drivers have the access via io_ops
reg_writel(), and they are replaced with the direct writel() calls.
And now with this patch, the whole bus->io_ops becomes empty, so it's
dropped completely. The bus initialization functions are changed
accordingly as well to drop the whole bus->io_ops.

The legacy HD-Audio driver cannot handle Skylake+ platforms with
digital microphones. For those platforms, the SOF or SST drivers need
to be used.
This patch provides an automatic way of detecting the presence of
DMICs using NHTL information reported by the BIOS. A kernel kconfig
option or a kernel module parameter provide an opt-in means of
stopping the probe. The kernel would then look for an alternate driver
registered for the same PCI ID to probe.
With this capability, distros no longer have to blacklist
snd-hda-intel, but still need to make sure the SOF/SST drivers are
functional by providing the relevant firmware and topology files in
/lib/firmware/intel
The coexistence between SOF and SST drivers and their dynamic
detection is not addressed by this patch, different mechanisms need to
be used, e.g. DMI-based quirks.

This essentially reverts the commits
c337104b1a ("ALSA: HD-Audio: SKL+: abort probe if DSP is present
and Skylake driver selected")
and
d82b51c855 ("ALSA: HD-Audio: SKL+: force HDaudio legacy or SKL+
driver selection")
for the path of legacy HD-audio controller (snd-hda-intel).
The automatic DSP detection and skip of binding with the legacy driver
caused regressions on several machines like Dell XPS13. They give the
PCI class 0x40380 indicating the availability of DSP while they don't
work with ASoC SKL driver (yet).
As the support of ASoC driver for such devices isn't available, it's
better to revert the whole DSP-detection-and-skip behavior of the
legacy driver, so that we can get the old good driver working on such
devices.
The pci_binding option for ASoC SKL driver is still kept so that it
can work without blacklisting.

Now that the SST/Skylake driver supports per platform selectors, we
can add logic to automatically select the right driver.
If the Skylake driver is selected for a specific platform, and the DSP
is detected at run-time based on the PCI class/subclass/prog-if
information, the legacy HDaudio driver aborts the probe. This will
result in a single driver probing and remove the need for modprobe
blacklists.
Follow-up patches will add a module parameter to bypass the logic if
this automatic detection fails, or if the Skylake driver is unable to
actually support the platform (firmware authentication, missing
topology file, hardware issue, etc).
The same mechanism will be used to conflicts generated by the same PCI
ID being registered by both legacy HDAuudio and SOF drivers for Intel
platforms. In other words SOF will not require changes to the HDaudio
legacy.

The DP-MST support requires more PCM streams than usual, hence
CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS is almost mandatory. Currently the driver
just warns and continues even if streams are missing, but it doesn't
seem to enough convince users to switch to the modern setup.
This patch adds the enforced selection of CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS
from CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_HDMI for covering that.

The commit ffcd28d88e ("ALSA: hda - Select INPUT for Realtek
HD-audio codec") introduced the reverse-selection of CONFIG_INPUT for
Realtek codec in order to avoid the mess with dependency between
built-in and modules. Later on, we obtained IS_REACHABLE() macro
exactly for this kind of problems, and now we can remove th INPUT
selection in Kconfig and put IS_REACHABLE(INPUT) to the appropriate
places in the code, so that the driver doesn't need to select other
subsystem forcibly.

Since the recent rewrite of HD-audio infrastructure,
CONFIG_SND_HDA_RECONFIG has a slightly different meaning. In the
earlier versions, it implicitly assumed only the usage via hwdep sysfs
entries. Meanwhile, in the recent version, this option is meant to
enable the reconfig code in HD-audio driver, which may be used by the
patch loader without hwdep interface.
This patch tries to clarify the usage pattern a bit better, hopefully
avoid the further confusion.

Since the recent integration of kctl jack and input jack layers, we
can basically build the jack layer even without input devices. That
is, the jack layer itself can be built with conditional to enable the
input device support or not, while the users may enable always
CONFIG_SND_JACK unconditionally.
For achieving it, this patch changes the following:
- A new Kconfig, CONFIG_SND_JACK_INPUT_DEV, was introduced to indicate
whether the jack layer supports the input device,
- A few items in snd_jack struct and relevant codes are conditionally
built upon CONFIG_SND_JACK_INPUT_DEV,
- The users of CONFIG_SND_JACK drop the messy dependency on
CONFIG_INPUT.
This change also automagically fixes a potential bug in HD-audio
driver Arnd reported, where the NULL or uninitialized jack instance is
dereferenced.

The file is moved to hda core and renamed to hdac_i915.c, so can be used
by both legacy HDA driver and new Skylake audio driver.
- Add snd_hdac_ prefix to the public APIs.
- The i915 audio component is moved to core bus and dynamically allocated.
- A static pointer hdac_acomp is used to help bind/unbind callbacks to get
this component, because the sound card's private_data is used by the azx
chip pointer, which is a legacy structure. It could be removed if private
_data changes to some core structure which can be extended to find the
bus.
- snd_hdac_get_display_clk() is added to get the display core clock for
HSW/BDW.
- haswell_set_bclk() is moved to hda_intel.c because it needs to write the
controller registers EM4/EM5, and only legacy HD-A needs it for HSW/BDW.
- Move definition of HSW/BDW-specific registers EM4/EM5 to hda_register.h
and rename them to HSW_EM4/HSW_EM5, because other HD-A controllers have
different layout for the extended mode registers.

Currently the ALSA jack core registers only input devices for each jack
registered. These jack input devices are not readable by userspace devices
that run as non root. This patch series will implement kctls inside the
core jack part, including kctls creating, status changing report, for both
HD-Audio and ASoC jack. This allows non root userspace to read jack status
and act on it.
This patch adds a new API called snd_jack_add_new_kctl(), which will create
a kcontrol, add it to the card, and also attach it to the jack kctl list.
This patch also initialises the jack kctl list after jack is newed, and
reports kctl status when jack insertion/removal events occur.
snd_jack_new() is updated in the following patches to also support creating
phantom jacks and jack kcontrols. We then remove these duplicated features
from HDA jack and have jack kctls handled by core throughout HDA and ASoC.

Define the common hd-audio driver and device types to bind over
snd_hda_bus_type publicly. This allows to implement other type of
device and driver code over hd-audio bus.
Now both struct hda_codec and struct hda_codec_driver inherit these
new struct hdac_device and struct hdac_driver, respectively.
The bus registration is done in subsys_initcall() to assure it
before any other driver registrations.

The commit commit [33f4acd3b2: ALSA: hda - Enable mic mute hotkey
and LEDs for an HP machine] introduced a quirk for a HP machine
involving with the input event handling. Although the relevant code
is protected via IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_INPUT), this doesn't suffice when
the audio driver is built in while the input is module.
As an easy workaround, this patch forcibly selects CONFIG_INPUT in
Kconfig. This shouldn't be a practical problem since CONFIG_INPUT is
almost mandatory for all systems. Also, this allows to remove the
ugly ifdefs in the code.

This adds a driver for the HDA block in Tegra SoCs. The HDA bus is
used to communicate with the HDMI codec on Tegra124.
Most of the code is re-used from the Intel/PCI HDA driver. It brings
over only two of the module params, power_save and probe_mask.

We have currently sysfs attributes for each hwdep, but basically these
should belong to the codec itself, per se. Let's add them to the
codec object while keeping them for hwdep as is for compatibility.
While we are at it, split the sysfs-related stuff into a separate
source file, hda_sysfs.c, and keep only the stuff necessary for hwdep
in hda_hwdep.c.

When a Kconfig of a codec driver doesn't match with the controller
(CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL), it'll result in the non-working automatic
probing. Unfortunately kbuild can't give such a restriction, but at
least, it's possible to show a warning if such a condition is found.

So far, CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_* kconfigs have been booleans due to
historical reasons. The major reason was that the automatic codec
driver probing wouldn't work if user sets a codec driver as a module
while the controller driver as a built-in. And, another reason was to
avoid exporting symbols of the helper codes when all drivers are built
in.
But, this sort of "kindness" rather confuses people in the end,
especially makes the config refinement via localmodconfig unhappy.
Also, a codec module would still work if you re-bind the controller
driver via sysfs (although it's no automatic loading), so there might
be a slight use case.
That said, better to let people fallen into a pitfall than being too
smart and restrict something. Let's make things straightforward: now
all CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_* become tristate, and all symbols exported
unconditionally.

CONFIG_SND_HDA_I915 doesn't have to be user-selectable as this is almost
mandatory when i915 driver is available. Let's enable it always when
CONFIG_DRM_I915 is set, so that user won't be bothered by useless

"Okay this is the big one, I was stalled on the fbdev pull req as I
stupidly let fbdev guys merge a patch I required to fix a warning with
some patches I had, they ended up merging the patch from the wrong
place, but the warning should be fixed. In future I'll just take the

There are some snd changes for the HDMI audio interactions on haswell,
they've been acked for inclusion via my tree. This relies on the
wound/wait tree from Ingo which is already merged.
Major changes:
AMD finally released the dynamic power management code for all their
GPUs from r600->present day, this is great, off by default for now but
also a huge amount of code, in fact it is most of this pull request.
Since it landed there has been a lot of community testing and Alex has
sent a lot of fixes for any bugs found so far. I suspect radeon might
now be the biggest kernel driver ever :-P p.s. radeon.dpm=1 to enable
dynamic powermanagement for anyone.

For Intel Haswell chip, HDA controller and codec have
power well dependency from GPU side. This patch added support
to request/release power well in audio driver. Power save
feature should be enabled to get runtime power saving.
There's deadlock when request_module(i915) in azx_probe.
It looks like:
device_lock(audio pci device) -> azx_probe -> module_request
(or symbol_request) -> modprobe (userspace) -> i915 init ->
drm_pci_init -> pci_register_driver -> bus_add_driver -> driver_attach ->
which in turn tries all locks on pci bus, and when it tries the one on the
audio device, it will deadlock.
This patch introduce a work to store remaining probe stuff, and let
request_module run in safe work context.

Currently HDMI codec driver sets the hard dependency (reverse
selection) on CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS because the recent codecs may
support more than two PCMs. But, this doesn't mean that we need
always this option, since there can be a single PCM stream even with
the modern codecs.
This patch drops the hard dependency again but give more sensible
error message when no enough PCMs are available due to the lack of
this option.

Finally we reached here. All codecs driver (except for CA0132, which
has really device-specific requirements) have been converted to use
the generic parser.
This patch appears bigger than others since it also involves with the
code shuffling, but mostly the cut-off of parser codes and adapt to
the generic parser flags. Most of fixup codecs haven't been changed
but just removed a few unnecessary codes.
The only missing stuff is the SPDIF mux control. It'll be added again
later.

This patch adds the support for the generic auto-parser to AD codec
driver. For AD1988, the old code is replaced simply with the new
generic parser. For other codecs, new model "auto" is added and
directed to use the generic parser.
No fixup codes have been implemented yet as of now. Eventually we'd
replace each static quirk with the generic parser + fixup.

This time, the target is Cirrus codec. Its parser is a subset of
generic parser, so we can migrate fully with it now.
The only tricky part is the handling of SPDIF automute.
Cirrus driver sets the SPDIF out plug over the headphone. As a
workaround, set spec->gen.master_mute for toggling the headphone (and
other) mute.

The next migration step is to use the common code in generic driver
for Realtek driver. This is no drastic change and there should be no
real functional changes, as the generic parser code comes from Realtek
driver originally.
As Realtek driver requires the generic parser code, it needs a
reverse-selection of CONFIG_SND_HDA_GENERIC kconfig.

CONFIG_SND_HDA_POWER_SAVE is no longer an experimental feature and its
behavior can be well controlled via the default value and module
parameter. Let's just replace it with the standard CONFIG_PM.

The beep_mode=2 option was introduced to make the beep mixer
controlling the beep input allocation/deallocation dynamically, so
that a user can switch between HD-audio codec digital beep and the
system beep only via mixer API. This was necessary because the
keyboard driver took only the first input beep instance at that time.
However, the recent keyboard driver already processes the multiple
input instances, thus there is no point to keep this mode.
Let's remove it.
