3e41c9b5a1 ALSA: ymfpci: Simplify PM callbacks
This is a similar cleanup like the commit [3db084fd0a: ALSA: fm801:
PCI core handles power state for us].

Since pci_set_power_state(), pci_save_state() and pci_restore_state()
are already done in the PCI core side, so we don't need to it doubly.

Also, pci_enable_device(), pci_disable_device() and pci_set_master()
calls in PM callbacks are superfluous nowadays, too, so get rid of
them as well.

3db084fd0a ALSA: fm801: PCI core handles power state for us
There is no need to repeat the work that is already done in the PCI
driver core. The patch removes excerpts from suspend and resume
callbacks.

Note that there is no more calls performed to enable or disable a PCI
device during suspend-resume cycle. Nowadays they seems to be
superflous. Someone can read more in [1].

to support HW which provides a total of more than 15 stream DMA engines

We introduced AZX_DCAPS_ALIGN_BUFSIZE to explicity show that the

tells that most chips need the buffer size alignment, and it'll be

Add a new driver_caps bit, AZX_DCAPS_SNOOP_OFF, to set the snoop off

azx_check_snoop_available(). Most of case-switches are replaced with
the new dcaps in each entry.

While working on it, for avoiding to spend more bits, combine three
bits AZX_DCAPS_SNOOP_SCH, AZX_DCAPS_SNOOP_ATI and
AZX_DCAPS_SNOOP_NVIDIA bits into a flat type of two bits. This
reduces the bits usages, and assign AZX_DCAPS_OFF to this empty bit

db79afa1e5 sound/radeon: Move 64-bit MSI quirk from arch to driver
A number of radeon cards have a HW limitation causing them to be
unable to generate the full 64-bit of address bits for MSIs. This
breaks MSIs on some platforms such as POWER machines.

We used to have a powerpc specific quirk to address that on a
single card, but this doesn't scale very well, this is better
put under control of the drivers who know precisely what a given
HW revision can do.

We now have a generic quirk in the PCI code. We should set it
appropriately for all radeon's from the audio driver.

6676f3081f ALSA: hda - fix the mic mute led problem for Latitude E5550
The microphone mute led on the Latitude E5550 can't work. We need to
apply DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED quirk to this machine.

The machine uses alc293 codec and already applied the quirk
ALC293_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE through pin_fixup_tbl[].

Here we just let DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED be chained to
ALC269_FIXUP_HEADSET_MODE, then the machine will have these
quirks ALC293_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE-->
ALC269_FIXUP_HEADSET_MODE-->ALC255_FIXUP_DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED.

4a83d42ae2 ALSA: hda - move DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED to the tail in the quirk chain
We have one more Dell machine needs DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED quirk, but
the machine uses alc293 instead of alc255. So if
DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED still chain ALC255_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE,
the machine can't use this quirk.

To change this situation, let the DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED to be a
standalone quirk, and let other quirks chain it.

After this change, this quirk can be chained to any existing quirks,
and as a result, it is possible that this quirk is applied to
a non-Dell machine or a Dell machine without mic mute led on it, but
it is still safe since alc_fixup_dell_wmi() will return an error in
these situations.

And remove the quirk for machine with subsystem id 0x6010 and 0x601f,
these two machines will fall back to the quirk
ALC255_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE-->ALC255_FIXUP_HEADSET_MODE-->
ALC255_FIXUP_DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED through pin_fixup_tbl[].

Many Realtek cdoecs have a COEF bit to switch the master amp control

EAPD, which is more standard. As a result, some system suffer from
the silent output when booting after Windows. This patch sets the

1df8874bfa ALSA: hda/realtek - Update Initial AMP for EAPD control
The default EAPD control uses verb command to control EAPD. Some codec
does not have verb command for EAPD. It needs to control by hidden
register.

This update will avoid wrong behavior for some codec. This patch will
fix double setup for EAPD. It just needs to turn on by one site for
verb command or hidden register controlled.

Detailed changes:
- alc889_coef_init() is replaced with alc_update_coef_idx() with a
  correct COEF value.
- for ALC262, ALC887 and ALC900, the EAPD setup via the hidden
register is removed because this rather conflicts with the EAPD verb
  setup.
- For ALC888-VC, also the hidden register access is removed in

- Remove the dead #if 0 code for ALC267/ALC268.

es1968_measure_clock uses struct timeval, which on 32-bit systems will overflow
in 2038, leading to incorrect interpretation of time. This patch changes the
function to use ktime_t instead of struct timeval, which implies:
- no y2038: ktime_t uses a 64-bit datatype explicitly.
- efficent subtraction: The earlier version computes the difference in usecs
while dealing with secs and nsecs. It requires checks to see if the nsecs of
stop is less than start. This patch uses a direct subtract of ktime_t and
  converts to usecs.
- use of monotonic clock (ktime_get) over real time (do_gettimeofday),
which simplifies timekeeping, as it does not have to deal with cases
where stop_time is less than start_time.

6acce400d9 ALSA: hda - hdmi: Fix missing ELD change event on plug/unplug
The ELD ALSA control change event is sent by hdmi_present_sense() when

Currently, it is only true when the ELD buffer contents have been

zero-length value and back when eld_valid is unset/set, and no event is
currently sent in such cases (such as when unplugging or replugging a

Fix the code to always set eld_changed if eld_valid value is changed,

The emu10k1 voice allocator takes voice_lock spinlock. When there is

8bb1ffdf76 ALSA: hda - Replace strnicmp with strncasecmp
The kernel used to contain two functions for length-delimited,
case-insensitive string comparison, strnicmp with correct semantics
and a slightly buggy strncasecmp. The latter is the POSIX name, so
strnicmp was renamed to strncasecmp, and strnicmp made into a wrapper
for the new strncasecmp to avoid breaking existing users.

To allow the compat wrapper strnicmp to be removed at some point in
the future, and to avoid the extra indirection cost, do
s/strnicmp/strncasecmp/g.

For its headphone, mic and DSP responses, we can use the standard

handle carefully is the delayed headphone jack handling. It tries to
react after a certain delay. Here we use the existing block_report

aa699c492e ALSA: hda - Remove superfluous callbacks from STAC/IDT codecs
Now we can register multiple callbacks to each jack, most of hooks
used in STAC/IDT codecs can be removed by enabling the powermap update
callback for all relevant pins. Along with this, the call of
stac_init_power_map() can be moved back to stac_parse_auto_config()
and the own build_controls callback can be removed, too.

1a4f69d5aa ALSA: hda - Allow multiple callbacks for jack
So far, hda_jack infrastructure allows only one callback per jack, and
this makes things slightly complicated when a driver wants to assign
multiple tasks to a jack, e.g. the standard auto-mute with a power
up/down sequence. This can be simplified if the hda_jack accepts
multiple callbacks.

This patch is such an extension: the callback-specific part (the
function and private_data) is split to another struct from
hda_jack_tbl, and multiple such objects can be assigned to a single
hda_jack_tbl entry.

The new struct hda_jack_callback is passed to each callback function
now, thus the patch became bigger than expected. But these changes
are mostly trivial.

The action value assigned to each hda_jack_tbl entry is mostly

The former case can be simply replaced by a reference to widget NID
itself. The only place doing the latter is STAC/IDT codec driver for
the powermap handling. But, the code doesn't need to check the action
field at all -- the function jack_update_power() is called either with
a specific pin or with NULL. So the check of jack->action can be
removed completely there, too.

7a9744cb45 ALSA: hda - Fix invalid pin powermap without jack detection
When a driver is set up without the jack detection explicitly (either
by passing a model option or via a specific fixup), the pin powermap
of IDT/STAC codecs is set up wrongly, resulting in the silence
output. It's because of a logic failure in stac_init_power_map().
It tries to avoid creating a callback for the pins that have other
auto-hp and auto-mic callbacks, but the check is done in a wrong way
at a wrong time. The stac_init_power_map() should be called after
creating other jack detection ctls, and the jack callback should be
created only for jack-detectable widgets.

This patch fixes the check in stac_init_power_map() and its callee
at the right place, after snd_hda_gen_build_controls().

d89c6c0c91 ALSA: hda - Add TLV_DB_SCALE_MUTE bit for relevant controls
The DACs on Sigmatel/IDT codecs do mute at the lowest volume level,
and in the earlier drivers, we passed TLV_DB_SCALE_MUTE bit for each
volume control element like Speaker and Headphone as well as Master.
Along with the translation to the generic parser, however, the TLV bit
was lost for the slave controls (e.g. Speaker) but set only to
Master. In theory this should have sufficed, but apps, particularly
PA, do care the slave volume bits, so we seem to see a regression in
the volume controls.

This patch adds a flag to hda_gen_spec to specify the DAC mute
feature, and adds the TLV bit properly for all relevant volume
controls. Also, the TLV bit for vmaster is set in hda_generic.c, so
that we can get rid of all tricks from the codec driver side.

As the similar hack is applied to Conexant 5051 stuff, we can get rid
of it as well.

f475371aa6 ALSA: hda - restore the gpio led after resume
On some HP laptops, the mute led is controlled by codec gpio.

When some machine resume from s3/s4, the codec gpio data will be
cleared to 0 by BIOS:
Before suspend:
  IO[3]: enable=1, dir=1, wake=0, sticky=0, data=1, unsol=0
After resume:
  IO[3]: enable=1, dir=1, wake=0, sticky=0, data=0, unsol=0

To skip the AFG node to enter D3 can't fix this problem.

A workaround is to restore the gpio data when the system resume
back from s3/s4. It is safe even on the machines without this
problem.

f3ee07d8b6 ALSA: hda/realtek - Avoid setting wrong COEF on ALC269 & co
ALC269 & co have many vendor-specific setups with COEF verbs.
However, some verbs seem specific to some codec versions and they
result in the codec stalling. Typically, such a case can be avoided
by checking the return value from reading a COEF. If the return value
is -1, it implies that the COEF is invalid, thus it shouldn't be
written.

This patch adds the invalid COEF checks in appropriate places
accessing ALC269 and its variants. The patch actually fixes the
resume problem on Acer AO725 laptop.

61074c1a2d ALSA: hda - Set TLV_DB_SCALE_MUTE bit for cx5051 vmaster
Conexnat HD-audio driver has a workaround for cx5051 (aka CX20561)
chip to add fake mute controls to each amp (commit 3868137e). This
implies the minimum-as-mute TLV bit in TLV for each corresponding
control. Meanwhile we build the virtual master from these, but the
TLV bit is missing, even though the slaves have it.

This patch simply adds the missing TLV_DB_SCALE_MUTE bit for vmaster,
as already done in patch_sigmatel.c.

e24aa0a4c5 ALSA: hda/ca0132 - Don't try loading firmware at resume when already failed
CA0132 driver tries to reload the firmware at resume. Usually this
works since the firmware loader core caches the firmware contents by
itself. However, if the driver failed to load the firmwares
(e.g. missing files), reloading the firmware at resume goes through
the actual file loading code path, and triggers a kernel WARNING like:

 WARNING: CPU: 10 PID:11371 at drivers/base/firmware_class.c:1105 _request_firmware+0x9ab/0x9d0()

For avoiding this situation, this patch makes CA0132 skipping the f/w

875f0dd799 ALSA: hda - Fix parsing of CMI8888 codec
CMI8888 codec chip has a boost amp (only) on the headphone pin, and
this confuses the generic parser, which tends to pick up the most
outside amp. This results in the wrong volume setup, as the driver
complains like:
hda_codec: Mismatching dB step for vmaster slave (-100!=1000)

For avoiding this problem, rule out the amp on NID 0x10 and create
"Headphone Amp" volume control manually instead.

Note that this patch still doesn't fix all problems yet. The sound
output from the line out seems still too low. It will be fixed in

c563f473ac ALSA: hda - Fix probing and stuttering on CMI8888 HD-audio controller
ASUS Phoebus with CMI8888 HD-audio chip (PCI id 13f6:5011) doesn't
work with HD-audio driver as is because of some weird nature. For
making DMA properly working, we need to disable MSI. The position
report buffer doesn't work, thus we need to force reading LPIB
instead. And yet, the codec CORB/RIRB communication gives errors
unless we disable the snooping (caching).

In this patch, all these workarounds are added as a quirk for the
device. The HD-audio *codec* chip needs yet another workaround, but
it'll be provided in the succeeding patch.

4da63c6fc4 ALSA: hda - Fix broken PM due to incomplete i915 initialization
When the initialization of Intel HDMI controller fails due to missing
i915 kernel symbols (e.g. HD-audio is built in while i915 is module),
the driver discontinues the probe. However, since the probe was done
asynchronously, the driver object still remains, thus the relevant PM
ops are still called at suspend/resume. This results in the bad access
to the incomplete audio card object, eventually leads to Oops or stall
at PM.

This patch adds the missing checks of chip->init_failed flag at each
PM callback in order to fix the problem above.

e4d9e513de ALSA: hda - restore BCLK M/N value as per CDCLK for HSW/BDW display HDA controller
For HSW/BDW display HD-A controller, hda_set_bclk() is defined to set BCLK

a07187c992 ALSA: hda - restore BCLK M/N values when resuming HSW/BDW display controller
For Intel Haswell/Broadwell display HD-A controller, the 24MHz HD-A link BCLK
is converted from Core Display Clock (CDCLK): BCLK = CDCLK * M / N
And there are two registers EM4 and EM5 to program M, N value respectively.
The EM4/EM5 values will be lost and when the display power well is disabled.

BIOS programs CDCLK selected by OEM and EM4/EM5, but BIOS has no idea about
display power well on/off at runtime. So the M/N can be wrong if non-default
CDCLK is used when the audio controller resumes, which results in an invalid
BCLK and abnormal audio playback rate. So this patch saves and restores valid
M/N values on controller suspend/resume.

And 'struct hda_intel' is defined to contain standard HD-A 'struct azx' and
Intel specific fields, as Takashi suggested.

8b3dfdaf0c ALSA: hda - Adjust speaker HPF and add LED support for HP Spectre 13
HP Spectre 13 has the IDT 92HD95 codec, and BIOS seems to set the
default high-pass filter in some "safer" range, which results in the
very soft tone from the built-in speakers in contrast to Windows.
Also, the mute LED control is missing, since 92HD95 codec still has no
HP-specific fixups for GPIO setups.

This patch adds these missing features: the HPF is adjusted by the
vendor-specific verb, and the LED is set up from a DMI string (but
with the default polarity = 0 assumption due to the incomplete BIOS on
the given machine).

74b0c2d75f drm/i915, HD-audio: Don't continue probing when nomodeset is given
When a machine is booted with nomodeset option, i915 driver skips the
whole initialization. Meanwhile, HD-audio tries to bind wth i915 just
by request_symbol() without knowing that the initialization was
skipped, and eventually it hits WARN_ON() in i915_request_power_well()
and i915_release_power_well() wrongly but still continues probing,
even though it doesn't work at all.

In this patch, both functions are changed to return an error in case
of uninitialized state instead of WARN_ON(), so that HD-audio driver
can give up HDMI controller initialization at the right time.

b4f75aea55 ALSA: hda - verify pin:converter connection on unsol event for HSW and VLV
This patch will verify the pin's coverter selection for an active stream
when an unsol event reports this pin becomes available again after a display
mode change or hot-plug event.

For Haswell+ and Valleyview: display mode change or hot-plug can change the
transcoder:port connection and make all the involved audio pins share the 1st
converter. So the stream using 1st convertor will flow to multiple pins
but active streams using other converters will fail. This workaround
is to assure the pin selects the right conveter and an assigned converter is
not shared by other unused pins.
