13c72c060f x86/mm: Introduce lookup_address_in_mm()
Add a helper, lookup_address_in_mm(), to traverse the page tables of a
given mm struct.  KVM will use the helper to retrieve the host mapping
level, e.g. 4k vs. 2mb vs. 1gb, of a compound (or DAX-backed) page
without having to resort to implementation specific metadata.  E.g. KVM
currently uses different logic for HugeTLB vs. THP, and would add a
third variant for DAX-backed files.

45fc24e89b x86/mpx: remove MPX from arch/x86

MPX is being removed from the kernel due to a lack of support
in the toolchain going forward (gcc).

This removes all the remaining (dead at this point) MPX handling
code remaining in the tree.  The only remaining code is the XSAVE
support for MPX state which is currently needd for KVM to handle
VMs which might use MPX.

75fbef0a8b x86/mm: Fix NX bit clearing issue in kernel_map_pages_in_pgd
The following commit:

  15f003d207 ("x86/mm/pat: Don't implicitly allow _PAGE_RW in kernel_map_pages_in_pgd()")

modified kernel_map_pages_in_pgd() to manage writable permissions
of memory mappings in the EFI page table in a different way, but
in the process, it removed the ability to clear NX attributes from
read-only mappings, by clobbering the clear mask if _PAGE_RW is not
being requested.

Failure to remove the NX attribute from read-only mappings is
unlikely to be a security issue, but it does prevent us from
tightening the permissions in the EFI page tables going forward,
so let's fix it now.

ee6352b2c4 x86/context-tracking: Remove exception_enter/exit() from do_page_fault()
do_page_fault(), like other exceptions, is already covered by
user_enter() and user_exit() when the exception triggers in userspace.

As explained in:

  8c84014f3b ("x86/entry: Remove exception_enter() from most trap handlers")

exception_enter/exit() only remained to handle possible page fault from
kernel mode while context tracking is in CONTEXT_USER mode, ie: on
kernel entry before we manage to call user_exit(). The only known
offender was do_fast_syscall_32() fetching EBP register from where
vDSO stashed it.

Meanwhile this got fixed in:

  9999c8c01f ("x86/entry: Call enter_from_user_mode() with IRQs off")

that moved enter_from_user_mode() before the call to get_user().

So we can safely remove it now.

Instead, shrink the zones when offlining memory or when onlining failed.
Introduce and use remove_pfn_range_from_zone(() for that.  We now
properly shrink the zones, even if we have DIMMs whereby

 - Some memory blocks fall into no zone (never onlined)

 - Some memory blocks fall into multiple zones (offlined+re-onlined)

 - Multiple memory blocks that fall into different zones

Drop the zone parameter (with a potential dubious value) from

2f004eea0f x86/kasan: Print original address on #GP
Make #GP exceptions caused by out-of-bounds KASAN shadow accesses easier
to understand by computing the address of the original access and
printing that. More details are in the comments in the patch.

This turns an error like this:

- Untangle the somewhat incestous way of how VMALLOC_START is used all across the
  kernel, but is, on x86, defined deep inside one of the lowest level page table headers.
  It doesn't help that vmalloc.h only includes a single asm header:

  So there was no existing cross-arch way to decouple address layout

- Also on x86 we had a couple of LDT related inline functions that used

f9b57cf80c x86/mm/pat: Move the memtype related files to arch/x86/mm/pat/
- pat.c offers, dominantly, the memtype APIs - so rename it to memtype.c.

- pageattr.c is offering, primarily, the set_memory*() page attribute APIs,
  which is offered via the <asm/set_memory.h> header: name the .c file
  along the same pattern.

I.e. perform these renames, and move them all next to each other in arch/x86/mm/pat/:

    pat.c             => memtype.c
    pat_internal.h    => memtype.h
    pat_interval.c    => memtype_interval.c

    pageattr.c        => set_memory.c
    pageattr-test.c   => cpa-test.c

d891b9219d x86/mm/pat: Clean up PAT initialization flags
Right now we have these variables that impact the PAT initialization sequence:

  pat_disabled
  boot_cpu_done
  pat_initialized
  init_cm_done

Some have a pat_ prefix, some not, and the naming is random,
which makes their purpose rather opaque.

Name them consistently and according to their role:

  pat_disabled
  pat_bp_initialized
  pat_bp_enabled
  pat_cm_initialized

Also rename pat_bsp_init() => pat_bp_init(), to use the canonical
abbreviation.

Also add a warning for double calls of init_cache_modes(), the call chains
leading to this are complex and I couldn't convince myself that we never
call this function twice - so utilize the flag for a debug check.

No change in functionality intended.

5557e831f6 x86/mm/pat: Disambiguate PAT-disabled boot messages
Right now we have these four types of PAT-disabled boot messages:

  x86/PAT: PAT support disabled.
  x86/PAT: PAT MSR is 0, disabled.
  x86/PAT: MTRRs disabled, skipping PAT initialization too.
  x86/PAT: PAT not supported by CPU.

The first message is ambiguous in that it doesn't signal that PAT is off
due to a boot option.

The second message doesn't really make it clear that this is the MSR value
during early bootup and it's the firmware environment that disabled PAT
support.

The fourth message doesn't really make it clear that we disable PAT support
because CONFIG_MTRR is off in the kernel.

Clarify, harmonize and fix the spelling in these user-visible messages:

  x86/PAT: PAT support disabled via boot option.
  x86/PAT: PAT support disabled by the firmware.
  x86/PAT: PAT support disabled because CONFIG_MTRR is disabled in the kernel.
  x86/PAT: PAT not supported by the CPU.

Also add a fifth message, in case PAT support is disabled at build time:

  x86/PAT: PAT support disabled because CONFIG_X86_PAT is disabled in the kernel.

Previously we'd just silently return from pat_init() without giving any indication
that PAT support is off.

Finally, clarify/extend some of the comments related to PAT initialization.

0609ae011d x86/kasan: support KASAN_VMALLOC
In the case where KASAN directly allocates memory to back vmalloc space,
don't map the early shadow page over it.

We prepopulate pgds/p4ds for the range that would otherwise be empty.
This is required to get it synced to hardware on boot, allowing the
lower levels of the page tables to be filled dynamically.

[start;last] is a closed interval (note that '<= last' check) - while the
PAT 'end' parameter is 1 byte beyond the end of the range, because
ioremap() and the other mapping APIs usually use the [start,end)
half-open interval, derived from 'size'.

This is what ioremap() does for example:

mapped interval.

So the correct parameter to use in the interval tree searches is not
'end' but 'end-1'.

This could have relevance if conflicting PAT ranges are exactly adjacent,
for example a future WC region is followed immediately by an already
mapped UC- region - in this case memtype_check_conflict() would
incorrectly deny the WC memtype region and downgrade the memtype to UC-.

BTW., rather annoyingly this downgrading is done silently in
memtype_check_insert():

So assuming that the patch below fixes the primary bug the diagnostics
side of ioremap() cache attribute downgrades would be another thing to
fix.

Anyway, I checked all the interval-tree iterations, and most of them are
off by one - but I think the one related to memtype_check_conflict() is
the one causing this particular performance regression.

The only correct interval-tree searches were these two:

  arch/x86/mm/pat_interval.c:     match = memtype_interval_iter_first(&memtype_rbroot, 0, ULONG_MAX);
  arch/x86/mm/pat_interval.c:             match = memtype_interval_iter_next(match, 0, ULONG_MAX);

The ULONG_MAX was hiding the off-by-one in plain sight. :-)

Note that the bug was probably benign in the sense of implementing a too
strict cache attribute conflict policy and downgrading cache attributes,
so AFAICS the worst outcome of this bug would be a performance regression,
not any instabilities.

dc4e0021b0 x86/doublefault/32: Move #DF stack and TSS to cpu_entry_area
There are three problems with the current layout of the doublefault
stack and TSS.  First, the TSS is only cacheline-aligned, which is
not enough -- if the hardware portion of the TSS (struct x86_hw_tss)
crosses a page boundary, horrible things happen [0].  Second, the
stack and TSS are global, so simultaneous double faults on different
CPUs will cause massive corruption.  Third, the whole mechanism
won't work if user CR3 is loaded, resulting in a triple fault [1].

Let the doublefault stack and TSS share a page (which prevents the
TSS from spanning a page boundary), make it percpu, and move it into
cpu_entry_area.  Teach the stack dump code about the doublefault
stack.

[0] Real hardware will read past the end of the page onto the next
    *physical* page if a task switch happens.  Virtual machines may
    have any number of bugs, and I would consider it reasonable for
    a VM to summarily kill the guest if it tries to task-switch to
    a page-spanning TSS.

[1] Real hardware triple faults.  At least some VMs seem to hang.
    I'm not sure what's going on.

9a62d20027 x86/mm/32: Sync only to VMALLOC_END in vmalloc_sync_all()
The job of vmalloc_sync_all() is to help the lazy freeing of vmalloc()
ranges: before such vmap ranges are reused we make sure that they are
unmapped from every task's page tables.

This is really easy on pagetable setups where the kernel page tables
are shared between all tasks - this is the case on 32-bit kernels
with SHARED_KERNEL_PMD = 1.

But on !SHARED_KERNEL_PMD 32-bit kernels this involves iterating
over the pgd_list and clearing all pmd entries in the pgds that
are cleared in the init_mm.pgd, which is the reference pagetable
that the vmalloc() code uses.

In that context the current practice of vmalloc_sync_all() iterating
until FIX_ADDR_TOP is buggy:

Because iterating up to FIXADDR_TOP will involve a lot of non-vmalloc
address ranges:

	VMALLOC -> PKMAP -> LDT -> CPU_ENTRY_AREA -> FIX_ADDR

This is mostly harmless for the FIX_ADDR and CPU_ENTRY_AREA ranges
that don't clear their pmds, but it's lethal for the LDT range,
which relies on having different mappings in different processes,
and 'synchronizing' them in the vmalloc sense corrupts those
pagetable entries (clearing them).

This got particularly prominent with PTI, which turns SHARED_KERNEL_PMD
off and makes this the dominant mapping mode on 32-bit.

To make LDT working again vmalloc_sync_all() must only iterate over
the volatile parts of the kernel address range that are identical
between all processes.

So the correct check in vmalloc_sync_all() is "address < VMALLOC_END"
to make sure the VMALLOC areas are synchronized and the LDT
mapping is not falsely overwritten.

The CPU_ENTRY_AREA and the FIXMAP area are no longer synced either,
but this is not really a proplem since their PMDs get established
during bootup and never change.

This change fixes the ldt_gdt selftest in my setup.

were merged in -tip, the 32-bit defconfig build started failing on the following
build time assert:

Which corresponds to the following build time assert:

The purpose of this assert is to sanity check the fixed-value definition of
CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES arch/x86/include/asm/pgtable_32_types.h:

	#define CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES    (NR_CPUS * 41)

The '41' is supposed to match sizeof(struct cpu_entry_area)/PAGE_SIZE, which value
we didn't want to define in such a low level header, because it would cause
dependency hell.

Every time the size of cpu_entry_area is changed, we have to adjust CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES
accordingly - and this assert is checking that constraint.

But the assert is both imprecise and buggy, primarily because it doesn't
include the single readonly IDT page that is mapped at CPU_ENTRY_AREA_BASE
(which begins at a PMD boundary).

This bug was hidden by the fact that by accident CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES is defined
too large upstream (v5.4-rc8):

	#define CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES    (NR_CPUS * 40)

While 'struct cpu_entry_area' is 155648 bytes, or 38 pages. So we had two extra
pages, which hid the bug.

The following commit (not yet upstream) increased the size to 40 pages:

  x86/iopl: ("Restrict iopl() permission scope")

... but increased CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES only 41 - i.e. shortening the gap
to just 1 extra page.

Then another not-yet-upstream commit changed the size again:

  880a98c339: ("x86/cpu_entry_area: Add guard page for entry stack on 32bit")

Which increased the cpu_entry_area size from 38 to 39 pages, but
didn't change CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES (kept it at 40). This worked
fine, because we still had a page left from the accidental 'reserve'.

But when these two commits were merged into the same tree, the
combined size of cpu_entry_area grew from 38 to 40 pages, while
CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES finally caught up to 40 as well.

Which is fine in terms of functionality, but the assert broke:

	BUILD_BUG_ON(CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES * PAGE_SIZE < CPU_ENTRY_AREA_MAP_SIZE);

because CPU_ENTRY_AREA_MAP_SIZE is the total size of the area,
which is 1 page larger due to the IDT page.

To fix all this, change the assert to two precise asserts:

	BUILD_BUG_ON((CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES+1)*PAGE_SIZE != CPU_ENTRY_AREA_MAP_SIZE);
	BUILD_BUG_ON(CPU_ENTRY_AREA_TOTAL_SIZE != CPU_ENTRY_AREA_MAP_SIZE);

This takes the IDT page into account, and also connects the size-based
define of CPU_ENTRY_AREA_TOTAL_SIZE with the address-subtraction based
define of CPU_ENTRY_AREA_MAP_SIZE.

Also clean up some of the names which made it rather confusing:

 - 'CPU_ENTRY_AREA_TOT_SIZE' wasn't actually the 'total' size of
   the cpu-entry-area, but the per-cpu array size, so rename this
   to CPU_ENTRY_AREA_ARRAY_SIZE.

 - Introduce CPU_ENTRY_AREA_TOTAL_SIZE that _is_ the total mapping
   size, with the IDT included.

 - Add comments where '+1' denotes the IDT mapping - it wasn't
   obvious and took me about 3 hours to decode...

Finally, because this particular commit is actually applied after
this patch:

  880a98c339: ("x86/cpu_entry_area: Add guard page for entry stack on 32bit")

Fix the CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES value from 40 pages to the correct 39 pages.

All future commits that change cpu_entry_area will have to adjust
this value precisely.

As a side note, we should probably attempt to remove CPU_ENTRY_AREA_PAGES
and derive its value directly from the structure, without causing
header hell - but that is an adventure for another day! :-)

8d04a5f97a x86/mm/pat: Convert the PAT tree to a generic interval tree
With some considerations, the custom pat_rbtree implementation can be
simplified to use most of the generic interval_tree machinery:

 - The tree inorder traversal can slightly differ when there are key
   ('start') collisions in the tree due to one going left and another right.
   This, however, only affects the output of debugfs' pat_memtype_list file.

 - Generic interval trees are now fully closed [a, b], for which we need
   to adjust the last endpoint (ie: end - 1).

 - Erasing logic must remain untouched as well.

 - In order for the types to remain u64, the 'memtype_interval' calls are
   introduced, as opposed to simply using struct interval_tree.

In addition, the PAT tree might potentially also benefit by the fast overlap
detection for the insertion case when looking up the first overlapping node
in the tree.

No change in behavior is intended.

Finally, I've tested this on various servers, via sanity warnings, running
side by side with the current version and so far see no differences in the
returned pointer node when doing memtype_rb_lowest_match() lookups.

a7ba70f178 dma-mapping: treat dev->bus_dma_mask as a DMA limit
Using a mask to represent bus DMA constraints has a set of limitations.
The biggest one being it can only hold a power of two (minus one). The
DMA mapping code is already aware of this and treats dev->bus_dma_mask
as a limit. This quirk is already used by some architectures although
still rare.

With the introduction of the Raspberry Pi 4 we've found a new contender
for the use of bus DMA limits, as its PCIe bus can only address the
lower 3GB of memory (of a total of 4GB). This is impossible to represent
with a mask. To make things worse the device-tree code rounds non power
of two bus DMA limits to the next power of two, which is unacceptable in
this case.

In the light of this, rename dev->bus_dma_mask to dev->bus_dma_limit all
over the tree and treat it as such. Note that dev->bus_dma_limit should
contain the higher accessible DMA address.

The BUILD_BUG_ON(IO_BITMAP_OFFSET - 1 == 0x67) in the VMX code is bogus in
two aspects:

1) This wants to be in generic x86 code simply to catch issues even when
   VMX is disabled in Kconfig.

2) The IO_BITMAP_OFFSET is not the right thing to check because it makes
   asssumptions about the layout of tss_struct. Nothing requires that the
   I/O bitmap is placed right after x86_tss, which is the hardware mandated
   tss structure. It pointlessly makes restrictions on the struct
   tss_struct layout.

The proper thing to check is:

    - Offset of x86_tss in tss_struct is 0
    - Size of x86_tss == 0x68

Move it to the other build time TSS checks and make it do the right thing.

The setup_data is a bit awkward to use for extremely large data objects,
both because the setup_data header has to be adjacent to the data object
and because it has a 32-bit length field. However, it is important that
intermediate stages of the boot process have a way to identify which
chunks of memory are occupied by kernel data. Thus introduce an uniform
way to specify such indirect data as setup_indirect struct and
SETUP_INDIRECT type.

And finally bump setup_header version in arch/x86/boot/header.S.

75a1a607bb uaccess: Add strict non-pagefault kernel-space read function
Add two new probe_kernel_read_strict() and strncpy_from_unsafe_strict()
helpers which by default alias to the __probe_kernel_read() and the
__strncpy_from_unsafe(), respectively, but can be overridden by archs
which have non-overlapping address ranges for kernel space and user
space in order to bail out with -EFAULT when attempting to probe user
memory including non-canonical user access addresses [0]:

  4-level page tables:
    user-space mem: 0x0000000000000000 - 0x00007fffffffffff
    non-canonical:  0x0000800000000000 - 0xffff7fffffffffff

  5-level page tables:
    user-space mem: 0x0000000000000000 - 0x00ffffffffffffff
    non-canonical:  0x0100000000000000 - 0xfeffffffffffffff

The idea is that these helpers are complementary to the probe_user_read()
and strncpy_from_unsafe_user() which probe user-only memory. Both added
helpers here do the same, but for kernel-only addresses.

Both set of helpers are going to be used for BPF tracing. They also
explicitly avoid throwing the splat for non-canonical user addresses from
00c42373d3 ("x86-64: add warning for non-canonical user access address
dereferences").

For compat, the current probe_kernel_read() and strncpy_from_unsafe() are
left as-is.

f53e2cd0b8 x86/mm: Use the correct function type for native_set_fixmap()
We call native_set_fixmap indirectly through the function pointer
struct pv_mmu_ops::set_fixmap, which expects the first parameter to be
'unsigned' instead of 'enum fixed_addresses'. This patch changes the
function type for native_set_fixmap to match the pointer, which fixes
indirect call mismatches with Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) checking.

    This patchset introduces an optional kernel lockdown feature,
    intended to strengthen the boundary between UID 0 and the kernel.
    When enabled, various pieces of kernel functionality are restricted.
    Applications that rely on low-level access to either hardware or the
    kernel may cease working as a result - therefore this should not be
    enabled without appropriate evaluation beforehand.

    The majority of mainstream distributions have been carrying variants
    of this patchset for many years now, so there's value in providing a

    to not requiring external patches.

  tampering with or examining the runtime state of the kernel should be

  The included lockdown LSM provides an implementation with a simple
  policy intended for general purpose use. This policy provides a coarse
  level of granularity, controllable via the kernel command line:

    lockdown={integrity|confidentiality}

  Enable the kernel lockdown feature. If set to integrity, kernel features
  that allow userland to modify the running kernel are disabled. If set to
  confidentiality, kernel features that allow userland to extract
  confidential information from the kernel are also disabled.

  This may also be controlled via /sys/kernel/security/lockdown and
  overriden by kernel configuration.

  New or existing LSMs may implement finer-grained controls of the
  lockdown features. Refer to the lockdown_reason documentation in
  include/linux/security.h for details.

  The lockdown feature has had signficant design feedback and review
  across many subsystems. This code has been in linux-next for some

b4ed71f557 mm: treewide: clarify pgtable_page_{ctor,dtor}() naming
The naming of pgtable_page_{ctor,dtor}() seems to have confused a few
people, and until recently arm64 used these erroneously/pointlessly for
other levels of page table.

To make it incredibly clear that these only apply to the PTE level, and to
align with the naming of pgtable_pmd_page_{ctor,dtor}(), let's rename them
to pgtable_pte_page_{ctor,dtor}().

These changes were generated with the following shell script:

782de70c42 mm: consolidate pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init()
Both pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init() are used to initialize kmem
cache for page table allocations on several architectures that do not use
PAGE_SIZE tables for one or more levels of the page table hierarchy.

Most architectures do not implement these functions and use __weak default
NOP implementation of pgd_cache_init().  Since there is no such default
for pgtable_cache_init(), its empty stub is duplicated among most
architectures.

Rename the definitions of pgd_cache_init() to pgtable_cache_init() and
drop empty stubs of pgtable_cache_init().

When CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS=y we validate that the @node argument of
cpumask_of_node() is a valid node_id. It however forgets to check for
negative numbers. Fix this by explicitly casting to unsigned int.

verifies: 0 <= node < nr_node_ids

Also ammend the error message to match the condition.

When PTI is disabled at boot time either because the CPU is not affected or
PTI has been disabled on the command line, the boot code still calls into
pti_finalize() which then unconditionally invokes:

     pti_clone_entry_text()
     pti_clone_kernel_text()

pti_clone_kernel_text() was called unconditionally before the 32bit support
was added and 32bit added the call to pti_clone_entry_text().

The call has no side effects as cloning the page tables into the available
second one, which was allocated for PTI does not create damage. But it does
not make sense either and in case that this functionality would be extended
later this might actually lead to hard to diagnose issues.

Neither function should be called when PTI is runtime disabled. Make the
invocation conditional.

pti_clone_pmds() assumes that the supplied address is either:

 - properly PUD/PMD aligned
or
 - the address is actually mapped which means that independently
   of the mapping level (PUD/PMD/PTE) the next higher mapping
   exists.

If that's not the case the unaligned address can be incremented by PUD or
PMD size incorrectly. All callers supply mapped and/or aligned addresses,
but for the sake of robustness it's better to handle that case properly and
to emit a warning.

7af0145067 x86/mm/cpa: Prevent large page split when ftrace flips RW on kernel text
ftrace does not use text_poke() for enabling trace functionality. It uses
its own mechanism and flips the whole kernel text to RW and back to RO.

The CPA rework removed a loop based check of 4k pages which tried to
preserve a large page by checking each 4k page whether the change would
actually cover all pages in the large page.

This resulted in endless loops for nothing as in testing it turned out that
it actually never preserved anything. Of course testing missed to include
ftrace, which is the one and only case which benefitted from the 4k loop.

As a consequence enabling function tracing or ftrace based kprobes results
in a full 4k split of the kernel text, which affects iTLB performance.

The kernel RO protection is the only valid case where this can actually
preserve large pages.

All other static protections (RO data, data NX, PCI, BIOS) are truly
static.  So a conflict with those protections which results in a split
should only ever happen when a change of memory next to a protected region
is attempted. But these conflicts are rightfully splitting the large page
to preserve the protected regions. In fact a change to the protected
regions itself is a bug and is warned about.

Add an exception for the static protection check for kernel text RO when
the to be changed region spawns a full large page which allows to preserve
the large mappings. This also prevents the syslog to be spammed about CPA
violations when ftrace is used.

The exception needs to be removed once ftrace switched over to text_poke()
which avoids the whole issue.

ae7eb82a92 fs/core/vmcore: Move sev_active() reference to x86 arch code
Secure Encrypted Virtualization is an x86-specific feature, so it shouldn't
appear in generic kernel code because it forces non-x86 architectures to
define the sev_active() function, which doesn't make a lot of sense.

To solve this problem, add an x86 elfcorehdr_read() function to override
the generic weak implementation. To do that, it's necessary to make
read_from_oldmem() public so that it can be used outside of vmcore.c.

Also, remove the export for sev_active() since it's only used in files that
won't be built as modules.

load_mm_cr4() is always called with interrupts disabled from:

 - switch_mm_irqs_off()
 - refresh_pce(), which is a on_each_cpu() callback

Thus, disabling interrupts in cr4_set/clear_bits() is redundant.

Implement cr4_set/clear_bits_irqsoff() helpers, rename load_mm_cr4() to
load_mm_cr4_irqsoff() and use the new helpers. The new helpers do not need
a lockdep assert as __cr4_set() has one already.

The renaming in combination with the checks in __cr4_set() ensure that any
changes in the boundary conditions at the call sites will be detected.

e9c0a3f054 mm/sparsemem: convert kmalloc_section_memmap() to populate_section_memmap()
Allow sub-section sized ranges to be added to the memmap.

populate_section_memmap() takes an explict pfn range rather than
assuming a full section, and those parameters are plumbed all the way
through to vmmemap_populate().  There should be no sub-section usage in
current deployments.  New warnings are added to clarify which memmap
allocation paths are sub-section capable.

We want to improve error handling while adding memory by allowing to use
arch_remove_memory() and __remove_pages() even if
CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTREMOVE is not set to e.g., implement something like:

	}

We won't get rid of CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTREMOVE for now, as it will require
quite some dependencies for memory offlining.

b98cca444d mm, kprobes: generalize and rename notify_page_fault() as kprobe_page_fault()
Architectures which support kprobes have very similar boilerplate around
calling kprobe_fault_handler().  Use a helper function in kprobes.h to
unify them, based on the x86 code.

This changes the behaviour for other architectures when preemption is
enabled.  Previously, they would have disabled preemption while calling
the kprobe handler.  However, preemption would be disabled if this fault
was due to a kprobe, so we know the fault was not due to a kprobe
handler and can simply return failure.

This behaviour was introduced in commit a980c0ef9f ("x86/kprobes:
Refactor kprobes_fault() like kprobe_exceptions_notify()")

0f472d04f5 mm/ioremap: probe platform for p4d huge map support
Finish up what commit c2febafc67 ("mm: convert generic code to 5-level
paging") started while levelling up P4D huge mapping support at par with
PUD and PMD.  A new arch call back arch_ioremap_p4d_supported() is added
which just maintains status quo (P4D huge map not supported) on x86,
arm64 and powerpc.

When HAVE_ARCH_HUGE_VMAP is enabled its just a simple check from the
arch about the support, hence runtime effects are minimal.

9087c37584 dma-direct: Force unencrypted DMA under SME for certain DMA masks
If a device doesn't support DMA to a physical address that includes the
encryption bit (currently bit 47, so 48-bit DMA), then the DMA must
occur to unencrypted memory. SWIOTLB is used to satisfy that requirement
if an IOMMU is not active (enabled or configured in passthrough mode).

However, commit fafadcd165 ("swiotlb: don't dip into swiotlb pool for
coherent allocations") modified the coherent allocation support in
SWIOTLB to use the DMA direct coherent allocation support. When an IOMMU
is not active, this resulted in dma_alloc_coherent() failing for devices
that didn't support DMA addresses that included the encryption bit.

Addressing this requires changes to the force_dma_unencrypted() function
in kernel/dma/direct.c. Since the function is now non-trivial and
SME/SEV specific, update the DMA direct support to add an arch override
for the force_dma_unencrypted() function. The arch override is selected
when CONFIG_AMD_MEM_ENCRYPT is set. The arch override function resides in
the arch/x86/mm/mem_encrypt.c file and forces unencrypted DMA when either
SEV is active or SME is active and the device does not support DMA to
physical addresses that include the encryption bit.
