This patch adds "-j" mode to test_progs, executing tests in multiple
process. "-j" mode is optional, and works with all existing test
selection mechanism, as well as "-v", "-l" etc.
In "-j" mode, main process use UDS/SEQPACKET to communicate to each forked
worker, commanding it to run tests and collect logs. After all tests are
finished, a summary is printed. main process use multiple competing
threads to dispatch work to worker, trying to keep them all busy.
The test status will be printed as soon as it is finished, if there are
error logs, it will be printed after the final summary line.
By specifying "--debug", additional debug information on server/worker
communication will be printed.
Example output:
> ./test_progs -n 15-20 -j

With "make install", bpftool installs its binary and its bash completion
file. Usually, this is what we want. But a few components in the kernel
repository (namely, BPF iterators and selftests) also install bpftool
locally before using it. In such a case, bash completion is not
necessary and is just a useless build artifact.
Let's add an "install-bin" target to bpftool, to offer a way to install
the binary only.

The script test_bpftool_build.sh attempts to build bpftool in the
various supported ways, to make sure nothing breaks.
One of those ways is to run "make tools/bpf" from the root of the kernel
repository. This command builds bpftool, along with the other tools
under tools/bpf, and runqslower in particular. After running the
command and upon a successful bpftool build, the script attempts to
cleanup the generated objects. However, after building with this target
and in the case of runqslower, the files are not cleaned up as expected.
This is because the "tools/bpf" target sets $(OUTPUT) to
.../tools/bpf/runqslower/ when building the tool, causing the object
files to be placed directly under the runqslower directory. But when
running "cd tools/bpf; make clean", the value for $(OUTPUT) is set to
".output" (relative to the runqslower directory) by runqslower's
Makefile, and this is where the Makefile looks for files to clean up.
We cannot easily fix in the root Makefile (where "tools/bpf" is defined)
or in tools/scripts/Makefile.include (setting $(OUTPUT)), where changing
the way the output variables are passed would likely have consequences
elsewhere. We could change runqslower's Makefile to build in the
repository instead of in a dedicated ".output/", but doing so just to
accommodate a test script doesn't sound great. Instead, let's just make
sure that we clean up runqslower properly by adding the correct command
to the script.
This will attempt to clean runqslower twice: the first try with command
"cd tools/bpf; make clean" will search for tools/bpf/runqslower/.output
and fail to clean it (but will still clean the other tools, in
particular bpftool), the second one (added in this commit) sets the
$(OUTPUT) variable like for building with the "tool/bpf" target and
should succeed.

API headers from libbpf should not be accessed directly from the
library's source directory. Instead, they should be exported with "make
install_headers". Let's make sure that runqslower installs the
headers properly when building.
We use a libbpf_hdrs target to mark the logical dependency on libbpf's
headers export for a number of object files, even though the headers
should have been exported at this time (since bpftool needs them, and is
required to generate the skeleton or the vmlinux.h).
When descending from a parent Makefile, the specific output directories
for building the library and exporting the headers are configurable with
BPFOBJ_OUTPUT and BPF_DESTDIR, respectively. This is in addition to
OUTPUT, on top of which those variables are constructed by default.
Also adjust the Makefile for the BPF selftests. We pass a number of
variables to the "make" invocation, because we want to point runqslower
to the (target) libbpf shared with other tools, instead of building its
own version. In addition, runqslower relies on (target) bpftool, and we
also want to pass the proper variables to its Makefile so that bpftool
itself reuses the same libbpf.

Bpftool relies on libbpf, therefore it relies on a number of headers
from the library and must be linked against the library. The Makefile
for bpftool exposes these objects by adding tools/lib as an include
directory ("-I$(srctree)/tools/lib"). This is a working solution, but
this is not the cleanest one. The risk is to involuntarily include
objects that are not intended to be exposed by the libbpf.
The headers needed to compile bpftool should in fact be "installed" from
libbpf, with its "install_headers" Makefile target. In addition, there
is one header which is internal to the library and not supposed to be
used by external applications, but that bpftool uses anyway.
Adjust the Makefile in order to install the header files properly before
compiling bpftool. Also copy the additional internal header file
(nlattr.h), but call it out explicitly. Build (and install headers) in a
subdirectory under bpftool/ instead of tools/lib/bpf/. When descending
from a parent Makefile, this is configurable by setting the OUTPUT,
LIBBPF_OUTPUT and LIBBPF_DESTDIR variables.
Also adjust the Makefile for BPF selftests, so as to reuse the (host)
libbpf compiled earlier and to avoid compiling a separate version of the
library just for bpftool.

Currently the recursion test is hooking __htab_map_lookup_elem
function, which is invoked both from bpf_prog and bpf syscall.
But in our kernel build, the __htab_map_lookup_elem gets inlined
within the htab_map_lookup_elem, so it's not trigered and the
test fails.
Fixing this by using htab_map_delete_elem, which is not inlined
for bpf_prog calls (like htab_map_lookup_elem is) and is used
directly as pointer for map_delete_elem, so it won't disappear
by inlining.

There are several test cases in the bpf directory are still using
exit 0 when they need to be skipped. Use kselftest framework skip
code instead so it can help us to distinguish the return status.
Criterion to filter out what should be fixed in bpf directory:
grep -r "exit 0" -B1 | grep -i skip
This change might cause some false-positives if people are running
these test scripts directly and only checking their return codes,
which will change from 0 to 4. However I think the impact should be
small as most of our scripts here are already using this skip code.
And there will be no such issue if running them with the kselftest
framework.

Cleanup code uses while (cpu++ < cpu_cnt) for closing fds, which means
it starts iterating from 1 for closing fds. If the first fd is -1, it
skips over it and closes garbage fds (typically zero) in the remaining
array. This leads to test failures for future tests when they end up
storing fd 0 (as the slot becomes free due to close(0)) in ldimm64's BTF
fd, ending up trying to match module BTF id with vmlinux.
This was observed as spurious CI failure for the ksym_module_libbpf and
module_attach tests. The test ends up closing fd 0 and breaking libbpf's
assumption that module BTF fd will always be > 0, which leads to the
kernel thinking that we are pointing to a BTF ID in vmlinux BTF.

SYSCALL_DEFINE3(connect, int, fd, struct sockaddr __user *, uservaddr,

To make the test more reliable, let us kprobe the syscall entry function

The file that fails the build varies between runs but it's always in the
progs/ subdir.
The reason is a missing make dependency on libbpf for the .o files in
progs/. There was a dependency before commit 3ac2e20fba but that commit
removed it to prevent unneeded rebuilds. However, that only works if libbpf
has been built already; the 'wildcard' prerequisite does not trigger when
there's no bpf_helper_defs.h generated yet.
Keep the libbpf as an order-only prerequisite to satisfy both goals. It is
always built before the progs/ objects but it does not trigger unnecessary
rebuilds by itself.

Change the interleaving of packets in unaligned mode. With the current
buffer addresses in the packet stream, the last buffer in the umem
could not be used as a large packet could potentially write over the
end of the umem. The kernel correctly threw this buffer address away
and refused to use it. This is perfectly fine for all regular packet
streams, but the ones used for unaligned mode have every other packet
being at some different offset. As we will add checks for correct
offsets in the next patch, this needs to be fixed. Just start these
page-boundary straddling buffers one page earlier so that the last
one is not on the last page of the umem, making all buffers valid.

Introduce pacing of traffic so that the Tx thread can never send more
packets than the receiver has processed plus the number of packets it
can have in its umem. So at any point in time, the number of in flight
packets (not processed by the Rx thread) are less than or equal to the
number of packets that can be held in the Rx thread's umem.
The batch size is also increased to improve running time.

Fix a problem where the fill ring was populated with too many
entries. If number of buffers in the umem was smaller than the fill
ring size, the code used to loop over from the beginning of the umem
and start putting the same buffers in again. This is racy indeed as a
later packet can be received overwriting an earlier one before the Rx
thread manages to validate it.

With clang build kernel (adding LLVM=1 to kernel and selftests/bpf build
command line), I hit the following test failure:
$ ./test_progs -t btf_dump
...
btf_dump_data:PASS:ensure expected/actual match 0 nsec
btf_dump_data:FAIL:find type id unexpected find type id: actual -2 < expected 0
btf_dump_data:FAIL:find type id unexpected find type id: actual -2 < expected 0
test_btf_dump_int_data:FAIL:dump __int128 unexpected error: -2 (errno 2)
#15/9 btf_dump/btf_dump: int_data:FAIL
Further analysis showed gcc build kernel has type "__int128" in dwarf/BTF
and it doesn't exist in clang build kernel. Code searching for kernel code
found the following:
arch/s390/include/asm/types.h: unsigned __int128 pair;
crypto/ecc.c: unsigned __int128 m = (unsigned __int128)left * right;
include/linux/math64.h: return (u64)(((unsigned __int128)a * mul) >> shift);
include/linux/math64.h: return (u64)(((unsigned __int128)a * mul) >> shift);
lib/ubsan.h:typedef __int128 s_max;
lib/ubsan.h:typedef unsigned __int128 u_max;
In my case, CONFIG_UBSAN is not enabled. Even if we only have "unsigned __int128"
in the code, somehow gcc still put "__int128" in dwarf while clang didn't.
Hence current test works fine for gcc but not for clang.
Enabling CONFIG_UBSAN is an option to provide __int128 type into dwarf
reliably for both gcc and clang, but not everybody enables CONFIG_UBSAN
in their kernel build. So the best choice is to use "unsigned __int128" type
which is available in both clang and gcc build kernels. But clang and gcc
dwarf encoded names for "unsigned __int128" are different:
[$ ~] cat t.c
unsigned __int128 a;
[$ ~] gcc -g -c t.c && llvm-dwarfdump t.o | grep __int128
DW_AT_type (0x00000031 "__int128 unsigned")
DW_AT_name ("__int128 unsigned")
[$ ~] clang -g -c t.c && llvm-dwarfdump t.o | grep __int128
DW_AT_type (0x00000033 "unsigned __int128")
DW_AT_name ("unsigned __int128")
The test change in this patch tries to test type name before
doing actual test.

* __bpf_vprintk macro works as expected

bpf_program__load is not supposed to be used directly. Replace it with
bpf_object__ APIs for the reference_tracking prog_test, which is the
last offender in bpf selftests.
Some additional complexity is added for this test, namely the use of one
bpf_object to iterate through progs, while a second bpf_object is
created and opened/closed to test actual loading of progs. This is
because the test was doing bpf_program__load then __unload to test
loading of individual progs and same semantics with
bpf_object__load/__unload result in failure to load an __unload-ed obj.

Commit c240ba2878 ("selftests/bpf: Add a test with a bpf
program with btf_tag attributes") added btf_tag selftest
to test BTF_KIND_TAG generation from C source code, and to
test kernel validation of generated BTF types.
But if an old clang (clang 13 or earlier) is used, the
following compiler warning may be seen:
progs/tag.c:23:20: warning: unknown attribute 'btf_tag' ignored
and the test itself is marked OK. The compiler warning is bad
and the test itself shouldn't be marked OK.
This patch added the check for btf_tag attribute support.
If btf_tag is not supported by the clang, the attribute will
not be used in the code and the test will be marked as skipped.
For example, with clang 13:
./test_progs -t btf_tag
#21 btf_tag:SKIP
Summary: 1/0 PASSED, 1 SKIPPED, 0 FAILED
The selftests/README.rst is updated to clarify when the btf_tag
test may be skipped.

This test uses bpf_get_branch_snapshot from a fexit program. The test uses

Add tests for invalid xsk descriptors in the Tx ring. A number of
handcrafted nasty invalid descriptors are created and submitted to the
tx ring to check that they are validated correctly. Corner case valid
ones are also sent. The tests are run for both aligned and unaligned
mode.

Eliminate a test specific if-statement for the RX_FILL_EMTPY stats
test that is present in the test runner. We can do this as we now have
the use_addr_for_fill option. Just create and empty Rx packet stream
and indicated that the test runner should use the addresses in that to
populate the fill ring. As there are no packets in the stream, the
fill ring will be empty and we will get the error stats that we want
to test.

Add a test for unaligned mode in which packet buffers can be placed
anywhere within the umem. Some packets are made to straddle page
boundaries in order to check for correctness. On the Tx side, buffers
are now allocated according to the addresses found in the packet
stream. Thus, the placement of buffers can be controlled with the
boolean use_addr_for_fill in the packet stream.
One new pkt_stream interface is introduced: pkt_stream_replace_half()
that replaces every other packet in the default packet stream with the
specified new packet. The constant DEFAULT_OFFSET is also
introduced. It specifies at what offset from the start of a chunk a Tx
packet is placed by the sending thread. This is just to be able to
test that it is possible to send packets at an offset not equal to
zero.

Make xdp_flags and bind_flags local instead of global by moving them
into the interface object. These flags decide if the socket should be
created in SKB mode or in DRV mode and therefore they are sticky and

Introduce a test specification to be able to concisely describe a
test. Currently, a test is implemented by sprinkling test specific if
statements here and there, which is not scalable or easy to
understand. The end goal with this patch set is to come to the point
in which a test is completely specified by a test specification that
can easily be constructed in a single function so that new tests can
be added without too much trouble. This test specification will be run
by a test runner that has no idea about tests. It just executes the
what test specification states.
This patch introduces the test specification and, as a start, puts the
two interface objects in there, one containing the packet stream to be
sent and the other one the packet stream that is supposed to be
received for a test to pass. The global variables containing these can
then be eliminated. The following patches will convert each existing
test into a test specification and add the needed fields into it and
the functionality in the test runner that act on the test
specification. At the end, the test runner should contain no test
specific code and each test should be described in a single simple
function.

Simplify the xsk_info and umem_info allocation by allocating them
upfront in an array, instead of allocating an array of pointers to
future creations of these. Allocating them upfront also has the
advantage that configuration information can be stored in these

structure, xsk_info and umem_info were created too late to be able to
store most configuration information. This will be used to eliminate
most global variables in later patches in this series.

Introduce a macro LIBBPF_DEPRECATED_SINCE(major, minor, message) to prepare
the deprecation of two API functions. This macro marks functions as deprecated
when libbpf's version reaches the values passed as an argument.
As part of this change libbpf_version.h header is added with recorded major
(LIBBPF_MAJOR_VERSION) and minor (LIBBPF_MINOR_VERSION) libbpf version macros.
They are now part of libbpf public API and can be relied upon by user code.
libbpf_version.h is installed system-wide along other libbpf public headers.
Due to this new build-time auto-generated header, in-kernel applications
relying on libbpf (resolve_btfids, bpftool, bpf_preload) are updated to
include libbpf's output directory as part of a list of include search paths.
Better fix would be to use libbpf's make_install target to install public API
headers, but that clean up is left out as a future improvement. The build
changes were tested by building kernel (with KBUILD_OUTPUT and O= specified
explicitly), bpftool, libbpf, selftests/bpf, and resolve_btfids builds. No
problems were detected.
Note that because of the constraints of the C preprocessor we have to write
a few lines of macro magic for each version used to prepare deprecation (0.6
for now).
Also, use LIBBPF_DEPRECATED_SINCE() to schedule deprecation of
btf__get_from_id() and btf__load(), which are replaced by
btf__load_from_kernel_by_id() and btf__load_into_kernel(), respectively,
starting from future libbpf v0.6. This is part of libbpf 1.0 effort ([0]).

bpf_prog_test_run_xattr takes a struct __sk_buff, but did not permit
that __skbuff to include an nonzero ingress_ifindex.
This patch updates to allow ingress_ifindex, convert the __sk_buff field to
sk_buff (skb_iif) and back, and tests that the value is present from on BPF
program side. The test sets an unlikely distinct value for ingress_ifindex
(11) from ifindex (1), which is in line with the rest of the synthetic field
tests.
Adding this support allows testing BPF that operates differently on
incoming and outgoing skbs by discriminating on this field.

struct pt_regs is not exported to userspace on all archs. arm64 and s390

Generate packets from a specification instead of something hard
coded. The idea is that a test generates one or more packet
specifications and provides it/them to both Tx and Rx. The Tx thread
will generate from this specification and Rx will validate that it
receives what is in the specification. The specification can be the
same on both ends, meaning that everything that was sent should be
received, or different which means that Rx will only receive part of
the sent packets.
Currently, the packet specification is the same for both Rx and Tx and
the same for each test. This will change in later work as features
and tests are added.
The data path functions are also renamed to better reflect what
actions they are performing after introducing this feature.

The optional packet dump feature is also simplified in the same
manner. Memory allocation and copying is removed and the dump is
performed directly on the umem data.

and bpf_getsockopt() from setsockopt BPF programs.
Test Details:
1. BPF Program
Checks for changes in IPV6_TCLASS(SOL_IPV6) via setsockopt
If the cca for the socket is not cubic do nothing
If the newly set value for IPV6_TCLASS is 45 (0x2d) (as per our use-case)
then change the cc from cubic to reno
2. User Space Program
Creates an AF_INET6 socket and set the cca for that to be "cubic"
Attach the program and set the IPV6_TCLASS to 0x2d using setsockopt
Verify the cca for the socket changed to reno

libbpf CI has reported send_signal test is flaky although
I am not able to reproduce it in my local environment.
But I am able to reproduce with on-demand libbpf CI ([1]).
Through code analysis, the following is possible reason.
The failed subtest runs bpf program in softirq environment.
Since bpf_send_signal() only sends to a fork of "test_progs"
process. If the underlying current task is
not "test_progs", bpf_send_signal() will not be triggered
and the subtest will fail.
To reduce the chances where the underlying process is not
the intended one, this patch boosted scheduling priority to
-20 (highest allowed by setpriority() call). And I did
10 runs with on-demand libbpf CI with this patch and I
didn't observe any failures.

This patch adds '-a' and '-d' arguments supporting both exact string match as
well as using '*' wildcard in test/subtests selection. '-a' and '-t' can
co-exists, same as '-d' and '-b', in which case they just add to the list of
allowed or denied test selectors.
Caveat: Same as the current substring matching mechanism, test and subtest
selector applies independently, 'a*/b*' will execute all tests matching "a*",
and with subtest name matching "b*", but tests matching "a*" that has no
subtests will also be executed.

Extend attach_probe selftests to specify ref_ctr_offset for uprobe/uretprobe
and validate that its value is incremented from zero.
Turns out that once uprobe is attached with ref_ctr_offset, uretprobe for the
same location/function *has* to use ref_ctr_offset as well, otherwise
perf_event_open() fails with -EINVAL. So this test uses ref_ctr_offset for

enough.

Add selftest with few subtests testing proper bpf_cookie usage.
Kprobe and uprobe subtests are pretty straightforward and just validate that
the same BPF program attached with different bpf_cookie will be triggered with
those different bpf_cookie values.
Tracepoint subtest is a bit more interesting, as it is the only
perf_event-based BPF hook that shares bpf_prog_array between multiple
perf_events internally. This means that the same BPF program can't be attached
to the same tracepoint multiple times. So we have 3 identical copies. This
arrangement allows to test bpf_prog_array_copy()'s handling of bpf_prog_array
list manipulation logic when programs are attached and detached. The test
validates that bpf_cookie isn't mixed up and isn't lost during such list
manipulations.
Perf_event subtest validates that two BPF links can be created against the
same perf_event (but not at the same time, only one BPF program can be
attached to perf_event itself), and that for each we can specify different
bpf_cookie value.

Currently weak typeless ksyms have default value zero, when they don't
exist in the kernel. However, weak typed ksyms are rejected by libbpf
if they can not be resolved. This means that if a bpf object contains
the declaration of a nonexistent weak typed ksym, it will be rejected
even if there is no program that references the symbol.
Nonexistent weak typed ksyms can also default to zero just like
typeless ones. This allows programs that access weak typed ksyms to be
accepted by verifier, if the accesses are guarded. For example,
extern const int bpf_link_fops3 __ksym __weak;
/* then in BPF program */
if (&bpf_link_fops3) {
/* use bpf_link_fops3 */
}
If actual use of nonexistent typed ksym is not guarded properly,
verifier would see that register is not PTR_TO_BTF_ID and wouldn't
allow to use it for direct memory reads or passing it to BPF helpers.

Whenever the eBPF subsystem gains new elements, such as new program or
map types, it is necessary to update bpftool if we want it able to
handle the new items.
In addition to the main arrays containing the names of these elements in
the source code, there are also multiple locations to update:
- The help message in the do_help() functions in bpftool's source code.
- The RST documentation files.
- The bash completion file.
This has led to omissions multiple times in the past. This patch
attempts to address this issue by adding consistency checks for all
these different locations. It also verifies that the bpf_prog_type,
bpf_map_type and bpf_attach_type enums from the UAPI BPF header have all
their members present in bpftool.
The script requires no argument to run, it reads and parses the
different files to check, and prints the mismatches, if any. It
currently reports a number of missing elements, which will be fixed in a
later patch:
$ ./test_bpftool_synctypes.py

Note that the script does NOT check for consistency between the list of
program types that bpftool claims it accepts and the actual list of
keywords that can be used. This is because bpftool does not "see" them,
they are ELF section names parsed by libbpf. It is not hard to parse the
section_defs[] array in libbpf, but some section names are associated
with program types that bpftool cannot load at the moment. For example,
some programs require a BTF target and an attach target that bpftool
cannot handle. The script may be extended to parse the array and check
only relevant values in the future.
The script is not added to the selftests' Makefile, because doing so
would require all patches with BPF UAPI change to also update bpftool.
Instead it is to be added to the CI.

Current max cgroup storage value size is 4k (PAGE_SIZE). The other local
storages accept up to 64k (BPF_LOCAL_STORAGE_MAX_VALUE_SIZE). Let's align
max cgroup value size with the other storages.
For percpu, the max is 32k (PCPU_MIN_UNIT_SIZE) because percpu
allocator is not happy about larger values.
netcnt test is extended to exercise those maximum values
(non-percpu max size is close to, but not real max).

This patch adds tests for the batching and bpf_(get|set)sockopt in
bpf tcp iter.
It first creates:
a) 1 non SO_REUSEPORT listener in lhash2.
b) 256 passive and active fds connected to the listener in (a).
c) 256 SO_REUSEPORT listeners in one of the lhash2 bucket.
The test sets all listeners and connections to bpf_cubic before
running the bpf iter.
The bpf iter then calls setsockopt(TCP_CONGESTION) to switch
each listener and connection from bpf_cubic to bpf_dctcp.
The bpf iter has a random_retry mode such that it can return EAGAIN
to the usespace in the middle of a batch.

As bpf_object__create_map() is a static function, we cannot just call it

TCP and other connection oriented sockets have accept()
for each incoming connection on the server side, hence
they can just insert those fd's from accept() to sockmap,
which are of course established.
Now with datagram sockets begin to support sockmap and
redirection, the restriction is no longer applicable to
them, as they have no accept(). So we have to lift this
restriction for them. This is fine, because inside
bpf_sk_redirect_map() we still have another socket status
check, sock_map_redirect_allowed(), as a guard.
This also means they do not have to be removed from
sockmap when disconnecting.

The test uses a BPF program that takes in a return value from XDP

We use non-blocking sockets for testing sockmap redirections,
and got some random EAGAIN errors from UDP tests.
There is no guarantee the packet would be immediately available
to receive as soon as it is sent out, even on the local host.
For UDP, this is especially true because it does not lock the
sock during BH (unlike the TCP path). This is probably why we
only saw this error in UDP cases.
No matter how hard we try to make the queue empty check accurate,
it is always possible for recvmsg() to beat ->sk_data_ready().
Therefore, we should just retry in case of EAGAIN.

migrate_reuseport.c selftest relies on having TCP_FASTOPEN_CONNECT defined in
system-wide netinet/tcp.h. Selftests can use up-to-date uapi/linux/tcp.h, but
that one doesn't have SOL_TCP. So instead of switching everything to uapi
header, add #define for TCP_FASTOPEN_CONNECT to fix the build.

In almost all cases from test_verifier that have been changed in here, we've
had an unreachable path with a load from a register which has an invalid
address on purpose. This was basically to make sure that we never walk this
path and to have the verifier complain if it would otherwise. Change it to
match on the right error for unprivileged given we now test these paths
under speculative execution.
There's one case where we match on exact # of insns_processed. Due to the
extra path, this will of course mismatch on unprivileged. Thus, restrict the
test->insn_processed check to privileged-only.
In one other case, we result in a 'pointer comparison prohibited' error. This
is similarly due to verifying an 'invalid' branch where we end up with a value
pointer on one side of the comparison.

Previously, if rst2man caught errors, then these would be ignored and
the output file would be written anyway. This would allow developers to
introduce regressions in the docs comments in the BPF headers.
Additionally, even if you instruct rst2man to fail out, it will still
write out to the destination target file, so if you ran the tests twice
in a row it would always pass. Use a temporary file for the initial run
to ensure that if rst2man fails out under "--strict" mode, subsequent
runs will not automatically pass.

Turn ony libbpf 1.0 mode. Fix all the explicit IS_ERR checks that now will be
broken because libbpf returns NULL on error (and sets errno). Fix
ASSERT_OK_PTR and ASSERT_ERR_PTR to work for both old mode and new modes and
use them throughout selftests. This is trivial to do by using
libbpf_get_error() API that all libbpf users are supposed to use, instead of
IS_ERR checks.
A bunch of checks also did explicit -1 comparison for various fd-returning
APIs. Such checks are replaced with >= 0 or < 0 cases.
There were also few misuses of bpf_object__find_map_by_name() in test_maps.

Add a test case for using bpf_skb_change_head() in combination with
bpf_redirect_peer() to redirect a packet from a L3 device to veth and back.
The test uses a BPF program that adds L2 headers to the packet coming
from a L3 device and then calls bpf_redirect_peer() to redirect the packet
to a veth device. The test fails as skb->mac_len is not set properly and
thus the ethernet headers are not properly skb_pull'd in cls_bpf_classify(),
causing tcp_v4_rcv() to point the TCP header into middle of the IP header.

In order to be able to generate loader program in the later
patches change the order of data and text relocations.
Also improve the test to include data relos.
If the kernel supports "FD array" the map_fd relocations can be processed
before text relos since generated loader program won't need to manually
patch ld_imm64 insns with map_fd.
But ksym and kfunc relocations can only be processed after all calls
are relocated, since loader program will consist of a sequence
of calls to bpf_btf_find_by_name_kind() followed by patching of btf_id
and btf_obj_fd into corresponding ld_imm64 insns. The locations of those
ld_imm64 insns are specified in relocations.
Hence process all data relocations (maps, ksym, kfunc) together after call relos.

In preparation of skipping emitting static variables in BPF skeletons, switch
all current selftests uses of static variables to pass data between BPF and
user-space to use global variables.
All non-read-only `static volatile` variables become just plain global
variables by dropping `static volatile` part.
Read-only `static volatile const` variables, though, still require `volatile`
modifier, otherwise compiler will ignore whatever values are set from
user-space.
Few static linker tests are using name-conflicting static variables to
validate that static linker still properly handles static variables and
doesn't trip up on name conflicts.

As discussed in [0], this ports test_tc_redirect.sh to the test_progs
framework and removes the old test.
This makes it more in line with rest of the tests and makes it possible
to run this test case with vmtest.sh and under the bpf CI.
The upcoming skb_change_head() helper fix in [0] is depending on it and
extending the test case to redirect a packet from L3 device to veth.

The BPF program for the snprintf selftest runs on all syscall entries.
On busy multicore systems this can cause concurrency issues.
For example it was observed that sometimes the userspace part of the
test reads " 4 0000" instead of " 4 000" (extra '0' at the end)
which seems to happen just before snprintf on another core sets
end[-1] = '\0'.
This patch adds a pid filter to the test to ensure that no
bpf_snprintf() will write over the test's output buffers while the
userspace reads the values.

Merge tag 'kbuild-v5.13' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/masahiroy/linux-kbuild
Pull Kbuild updates from Masahiro Yamada:
- Evaluate $(call cc-option,...) etc. only for build targets
- Add CONFIG_VMLINUX_MAP to generate .map file when linking vmlinux
- Remove unnecessary --gcc-toolchains Clang flag because the --prefix
flag finds the toolchains
- Do not pass Clang's --prefix flag when using the integrated as
- Check the assembler version in Kconfig time
- Add new CONFIG options, AS_VERSION, AS_IS_GNU, AS_IS_LLVM to clean up
some dependencies in Kconfig
- Fix invalid Module.symvers creation when building only modules
without vmlinux
- Fix false-positive modpost warnings when CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS is
set, but there is no module to build
- Refactor module installation Makefile
- Support zstd for module compression
- Convert alpha and ia64 to use generic shell scripts to generate the
syscall headers
- Add a new elfnote to indicate if the kernel was built with LTO, which
will be used by pahole
- Flatten the directory structure under include/config/ so CONFIG
options and filenames match
- Change the deb source package name from linux-$(KERNELRELEASE) to
linux-upstream

Similarly as b02709587e ("bpf: Fix propagation of 32-bit signed bounds
from 64-bit bounds."), we also need to fix the propagation of 32 bit
unsigned bounds from 64 bit counterparts. That is, really only set the
u32_{min,max}_value when /both/ {umin,umax}_value safely fit in 32 bit
space. For example, the register with a umin_value == 1 does /not/ imply
that u32_min_value is also equal to 1, since umax_value could be much
larger than 32 bit subregister can hold, and thus u32_min_value is in
the interval [0,1] instead.

Thus, same issue as in b02709587e holds for unsigned subregister tracking.
Also, align __reg64_bound_u32() similarly to __reg64_bound_s32() as done in
b02709587e to make them uniform again.

Fix failed tests checks in core_reloc test runner, which allowed failing tests
to pass quietly. Also add extra check to make sure that expected to fail test cases with
invalid names are caught as test failure anyway, as this is not an expected
failure mode. Also fix mislabeled probed vs direct bitfield test cases.

Negative field existence cases for have a broken assumption that FIELD_EXISTS
CO-RE relo will fail for fields that match the name but have incompatible type
signature. That's not how CO-RE relocations generally behave. Types and fields
that match by name but not by expected type are treated as non-matching
candidates and are skipped. Error later is reported if no matching candidate
was found. That's what happens for most relocations, but existence relocations
(FIELD_EXISTS and TYPE_EXISTS) are more permissive and they are designed to
return 0 or 1, depending if a match is found. This allows to handle
name-conflicting but incompatible types in BPF code easily. Combined with
___flavor suffixes, it's possible to handle pretty much any structural type
changes in kernel within the compiled once BPF source code.
So, long story short, negative field existence test cases are invalid in their
assumptions, so this patch reworks them into a single consolidated positive
case that doesn't match any of the fields.

Add ASSERT_TRUE/ASSERT_FALSE for conditions calculated with custom logic to
true/false. Also add remaining arithmetical assertions:
- ASSERT_LE -- less than or equal;
- ASSERT_GT -- greater than;
- ASSERT_GE -- greater than or equal.
This should cover most scenarios where people fall back to error-prone
CHECK()s.
Also extend ASSERT_ERR() to print out errno, in addition to direct error.
Also convert few CHECK() instances to ensure new ASSERT_xxx() variants work as
expected. Subsequent patch will also use ASSERT_TRUE/ASSERT_FALSE more
extensively.

Since commit 57fd251c78 ("kbuild: split cc-option and friends to
scripts/Makefile.compiler"), some kselftests fail to build.
The tools/ directory opted out Kbuild, and went in a different
direction. People copied scripts and Makefiles to the tools/ directory
to create their own build system.
tools/build/Build.include mimics scripts/Kbuild.include, but some
tool Makefiles include the Kbuild one to import a feature that is
missing in tools/build/Build.include:
- Commit ec04aa3ae8 ("tools/thermal: tmon: use "-fstack-protector"
only if supported") included scripts/Kbuild.include from
tools/thermal/tmon/Makefile to import the cc-option macro.
- Commit c2390f16fc ("selftests: kvm: fix for compilers that do
not support -no-pie") included scripts/Kbuild.include from
tools/testing/selftests/kvm/Makefile to import the try-run macro.
- Commit 9cae4ace80 ("selftests/bpf: do not ignore clang
failures") included scripts/Kbuild.include from
tools/testing/selftests/bpf/Makefile to import the .DELETE_ON_ERROR
target.
- Commit 0695f8bca9 ("selftests/powerpc: Handle Makefile for
unrecognized option") included scripts/Kbuild.include from
tools/testing/selftests/powerpc/pmu/ebb/Makefile to import the
try-run macro.
Copy what they need into tools/build/Build.include, and make them
include it instead of scripts/Kbuild.include.

Add selftest validating various aspects of statically linking BTF-defined map
definitions. Legacy map definitions do not support extern resolution between
object files. Some of the aspects validated:
- correct resolution of extern maps against concrete map definitions;
- extern maps can currently only specify map type and key/value size and/or
type information;
- weak concrete map definitions are resolved properly.
Static map definitions are not yet supported by libbpf, so they are not
explicitly tested, though manual testing showes that BPF linker handles them
properly.

no ELF symbols);

Skip generating individual BPF skeletons for files that are supposed to be
linked together to form the final BPF object file. Very often such files are
"incomplete" BPF object files, which will fail libbpf bpf_object__open() step,
if used individually, thus failing BPF skeleton generation. This is by design,
so skip individual BPF skeletons and only validate them as part of their
linked final BPF object file and skeleton.

While -Og is designed to work well with debugger, it's still inferior to -O0
in terms of debuggability experience. It will cause some variables to still be
inlined, it will also prevent single-stepping some statements and otherwise
interfere with debugging experience. So switch to -O0 which turns off any
optimization and provides the best debugging experience.
