065bd4d35b ACPI: button: Refactor lid_init_state module parsing code
Replace the weird strncmp() calls in param_set_lid_init_state(),
which look to me like they will also accept things like "opennnn"
to use sysfs_match_string instead.

Also rewrite param_get_lid_init_state() using the new lid_init_state_str
array. Instead of doing a straightforward one line replacement, e.g. :
  return sprintf(buffer, lid_init_state_str[lid_init_state]);
print all possible values, putting [] around the selected value, so
that users can easily find out what the possible values are.

6025e2fae3 ACPI: LPSS: Add dmi quirk for skipping _DEP check for some device-links
The iGPU / GFX0 device's _PS0 method on the ASUS T200TA depends on the
I2C1 controller (which is connected to the embedded controller). But unlike
in the T100TA/T100CHI this dependency is not listed in the _DEP of the GFX0
device.

This results in the dev_WARN_ONCE(..., "Transfer while suspended\n") call
in i2c-designware-master.c triggering and the AML code not working as it
should.

This commit fixes this by adding a dmi based quirk mechanism for devices
which miss a _DEP, and adding a quirk for the LNXVIDEO depending on the
I2C1 device on the Asus T200TA.

b3b3519c04 ACPI: LPSS: Add LNXVIDEO -> BYT I2C1 to lpss_device_links
Various Asus Bay Trail devices (T100TA, T100CHI, T200TA) have an embedded
controller connected to I2C1 and the iGPU (LNXVIDEO) _PS0/_PS3 methods
access it, so we need to add a consumer link from LNXVIDEO to I2C1 on
these devices to avoid suspend/resume ordering problems.

cc18735f20 ACPI: LPSS: Add LNXVIDEO -> BYT I2C7 to lpss_device_links
So far on Bay Trail (BYT) we only have been adding a device_link adding
the iGPU (LNXVIDEO) device as consumer for the I2C controller for the
PMIC for I2C5, but the PMIC only uses I2C5 on BYT CR (cost reduced) on
regular BYT platforms I2C7 is used and we were not adding the device_link
sometimes causing resume ordering issues.

This commit adds LNXVIDEO -> BYT I2C7 to the lpss_device_links table,
fixing this.

cefe6aac29 ACPI / PMIC: Add Cherry Trail Crystal Cove PMIC OpRegion driver
We have no docs for the CHT Crystal Cove PMIC. The Asus Zenfone-2 kernel
code has 2 Crystal Cove regulator drivers, one calls the PMIC a "Crystal
Cove Plus" PMIC and talks about Cherry Trail, so presuambly that one
could be used to get register info for the regulators if we need to
implement regulator support in the future.

For now the sole purpose of this driver is to make
intel_soc_pmic_exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element work on devices with a
CHT Crystal Cove PMIC.

Specifically this fixes the following MIPI PMIC sequence related errors
on e.g. an Asus T100HA:

[ 178.211801] intel_soc_pmic_exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element: No PMIC registered
[ 178.211897] [drm:intel_dsi_dcs_init_backlight_funcs [i915]] *ERROR* mipi_exec_pmic failed, error: -6

ed852cde25 ACPI / PMIC: Add byt prefix to Crystal Cove PMIC OpRegion driver
Our current Crystal Cove OpRegion driver is only valid for the
Crystal Cove PMIC variant found on Bay Trail (BYT) boards,
Cherry Trail (CHT) based boards use another variant.

At least the regulator registers are different on CHT and these registers
are one of the things controlled by the custom PMIC OpRegion.

Commit 4d9ed62ab1 ("mfd: intel_soc_pmic: Export separate mfd-cell
configs for BYT and CHT") has disabled the intel_pmic_crc.c code for CHT
devices by removing the "crystal_cove_pmic" MFD cell on CHT devices.

This commit renames the intel_pmic_crc.c driver and the cell to be
prefixed with "byt" to indicate that this code is for BYT devices only.

This is a preparation patch for adding a separate PMIC OpRegion
driver for the CHT variant of the Crystal Cove PMIC (sometimes called
Crystal Cove Plus in Android kernel sources).

a0fcfed138 ACPI / PMIC: Do not register handlers for unhandled OpRegions
For some model PMIC's used on Intel boards we do not know how to
handle the power or thermal opregions because we have no documentation.

For example in the intel_pmic_chtwc.c driver thermal_table_count is 0,
which means that our PMIC_THERMAL_OPREGION_ID handler will always fail
with AE_BAD_PARAMETER, in this case it is better to simply not register
the handler at all.

a1bb46c36c ACPI: processor: Add QoS requests for all CPUs
The _PPC change notifications from the platform firmware are per-CPU,
so acpi_processor_ppc_init() needs to add a frequency QoS request
for each CPU covered by a cpufreq policy to take all of them into
account.

Even though ACPI thermal control of CPUs sets frequency limits
per processor package, it also needs a frequency QoS request for each
CPU in a cpufreq policy in case some of them are taken offline and
the frequency limit needs to be set through the remaining online
ones (this is slightly excessive, because all CPUs covered by one
cpufreq policy will set the same frequency limit through their QoS
requests, but it is not incorrect).

Modify the code in accordance with the above observations.

fa583f71a9 ACPI: processor_idle: Skip dummy wait if kernel is in guest
In function acpi_idle_do_entry(), an ioport access is used for
dummy wait to guarantee hardware behavior. But it could trigger
unnecessary VMexit if kernel is running as guest in virtualization
environment.

If it's in virtualization environment, the deeper C state enter
operation (inb()) will trap to hypervisor. It's not needed to do
dummy wait after the inb() call. So we could just remove the
dummy io port access to avoid unnecessary VMexit.

And keep dummy io port access to maintain timing for native
environment.

3000ce3c52 cpufreq: Use per-policy frequency QoS
Replace the CPU device PM QoS used for the management of min and max
frequency constraints in cpufreq (and its users) with per-policy
frequency QoS to avoid problems with cpufreq policies covering
more then one CPU.

Namely, a cpufreq driver is registered with the subsys interface
which calls cpufreq_add_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0, so
currently the PM QoS notifiers are added to the first CPU in the
policy (i.e. CPU0 in the majority of cases).

In turn, when the cpufreq driver is unregistered, the subsys interface
doing that calls cpufreq_remove_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0,
and the PM QoS notifiers are only removed when cpufreq_remove_dev() is
called for the last CPU in the policy, say CPUx, which as a rule is
not CPU0 if the policy covers more than one CPU. Then, the PM QoS
notifiers cannot be removed, because CPUx does not have them, and
they are still there in the device PM QoS notifiers list of CPU0,
which prevents new PM QoS notifiers from being registered for CPU0
on the next attempt to register the cpufreq driver.

The same issue occurs when the first CPU in the policy goes offline
before unregistering the driver.

After this change it does not matter which CPU is the policy CPU at
the driver registration time and whether or not it is online all the
time, because the frequency QoS is per policy and not per CPU.

It seems that global pcc_data[pcc_ss_id] can be freed in
acpi_cppc_processor_exit(), but we may later reference this value, so
NULLify it when freed.

Also remove the useless setting of data "pcc_channel_acquired", which
we're about to free.

cb0701acfa ACPI: platform: Unregister stale platform devices
When commit 68bdb67732 ("ACPI: add support for ACPI reconfiguration
notifiers") introduced reconfiguration notifiers, it missed the point
that the ACPI table, which might be loaded and then unloaded via
ConfigFS, could contain devices that were not enumerated by their
parents.

In such cases, the stale platform device is dangling in the system
while the rest of the devices from the same table are already gone.

Introduce acpi_platform_device_remove_notify() notifier that, in
similar way to I²C or SPI buses, unregisters the platform devices
on table removal event.

2d8b39a62a ACPI: processor: Avoid NULL pointer dereferences at init time
If there are neither processor objects nor processor device objects
in the ACPI tables, the per-CPU processors table will not be
initialized and attempting to dereference pointers from there will
cause the kernel to crash. This happens in acpi_processor_ppc_init()
and acpi_thermal_cpufreq_init() after commit d15ce41273 ("ACPI:
cpufreq: Switch to QoS requests instead of cpufreq notifier")
which didn't add the requisite NULL pointer checks in there.

Add the NULL pointer checks to acpi_processor_ppc_init() and
acpi_thermal_cpufreq_init(), and to the corresponding "exit"
routines.

While at it, drop redundant return instructions from
acpi_processor_ppc_init() and acpi_thermal_cpufreq_init().

aefcf2f4b5 Merge branch 'next-lockdown' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security
Pull kernel lockdown mode from James Morris:
"This is the latest iteration of the kernel lockdown patchset, from
Matthew Garrett, David Howells and others.

  From the original description:

This patchset introduces an optional kernel lockdown feature,
intended to strengthen the boundary between UID 0 and the kernel.
When enabled, various pieces of kernel functionality are restricted.
Applications that rely on low-level access to either hardware or the
kernel may cease working as a result - therefore this should not be
    enabled without appropriate evaluation beforehand.

The majority of mainstream distributions have been carrying variants
of this patchset for many years now, so there's value in providing a
doesn't meet every distribution requirement, but gets us much closer
    to not requiring external patches.

There are two major changes since this was last proposed for mainline:

   - Separating lockdown from EFI secure boot. Background discussion is
     covered here: https://lwn.net/Articles/751061/

   - Implementation as an LSM, with a default stackable lockdown LSM
module. This allows the lockdown feature to be policy-driven,
rather than encoding an implicit policy within the mechanism.

The new locked_down LSM hook is provided to allow LSMs to make a
policy decision around whether kernel functionality that would allow
tampering with or examining the runtime state of the kernel should be
  permitted.

The included lockdown LSM provides an implementation with a simple
policy intended for general purpose use. This policy provides a coarse
level of granularity, controllable via the kernel command line:

    lockdown={integrity|confidentiality}

Enable the kernel lockdown feature. If set to integrity, kernel features
that allow userland to modify the running kernel are disabled. If set to
confidentiality, kernel features that allow userland to extract
confidential information from the kernel are also disabled.

This may also be controlled via /sys/kernel/security/lockdown and
  overriden by kernel configuration.

New or existing LSMs may implement finer-grained controls of the
lockdown features. Refer to the lockdown_reason documentation in
  include/linux/security.h for details.

The lockdown feature has had signficant design feedback and review
across many subsystems. This code has been in linux-next for some
weeks, with a few fixes applied along the way.

Stephen Rothwell noted that commit 9d1f8be5cf ("bpf: Restrict bpf
when kernel lockdown is in confidentiality mode") is missing a
Signed-off-by from its author. Matthew responded that he is providing
this under category (c) of the DCO"

6cfae0c26b Char/Misc driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big char/misc driver pull request for 5.4-rc1.

As has been happening in previous releases, more and more individual
driver subsystem trees are ending up in here. Now if that is good or
bad I can't tell, but hopefully it makes your life easier as it's more
of an aggregation of trees together to one merge point for you.

Anyway, lots of stuff in here:
 	- habanalabs driver updates
 	- thunderbolt driver updates
 	- misc driver updates
 	- coresight and intel_th hwtracing driver updates
 	- fpga driver updates
 	- extcon driver updates

Pull x86 cpu-feature updates from Ingo Molnar:

 - Rework the Intel model names symbols/macros, which were decades of

 - Add new Intel CPU model IDs:
    - "Tiger Lake" desktop and mobile models
    - "Elkhart Lake" model ID
    - and the "Lightning Mountain" variant of Airmont, plus support code

 - Add the new AVX512_VP2INTERSECT instruction to cpufeatures

 - Remove Intel MPX user-visible APIs and the self-tests, because the
toolchain (gcc) is not supporting it going forward. This is the
first, lowest-risk phase of MPX removal.

 - Remove X86_FEATURE_MFENCE_RDTSC

29b49958cf ACPI / PCI: fix acpi_pci_irq_enable() memory leak
In acpi_pci_irq_enable(), 'entry' is allocated by kzalloc() in

it is not deallocated if acpi_pci_irq_valid() returns false, leading to a

d78c620a2e libnvdimm/security: Introduce a 'frozen' attribute
In the process of debugging a system with an NVDIMM that was failing to
unlock it was found that the kernel is reporting 'locked' while the DIMM
security interface is 'frozen'. Unfortunately the security state is
tracked internally as an enum which prevents it from communicating the
difference between 'locked' and 'locked + frozen'. It follows that the
enum also prevents the kernel from communicating 'unlocked + frozen'
which would be useful for debugging why security operations like 'change
passphrase' are disabled.

Ditch the security state enum for a set of flags and introduce a new
sysfs attribute explicitly for the 'frozen' state. The regression risk
is low because the 'frozen' state was already blocked behind the
'locked' state, but will need to revisit if there were cases where
applications need 'frozen' to show up in the primary 'security'
attribute. The expectation is that communicating 'frozen' is mostly a
helper for debug and status monitoring.

4c4cdc4c63 ACPI / CPPC: do not require the _PSD method
According to the ACPI 6.3 specification, the _PSD method is optional
when using CPPC. The underlying assumption is that each CPU can change
frequency independently from all other CPUs; _PSD is provided to tell
the OS that some processors can NOT do that.

However, the acpi_get_psd() function returns ENODEV if there is no _PSD
method present, or an ACPI error status if an error occurs when evaluating
_PSD, if present. This makes _PSD mandatory when using CPPC, in violation
of the specification, and only on Linux.

This has forced some firmware writers to provide a dummy _PSD, even though
it is irrelevant, but only because Linux requires it; other OSPMs follow
the spec. We really do not want to have OS specific ACPI tables, though.

So, correct acpi_get_psd() so that it does not return an error if there
is no _PSD method present, but does return a failure when the method can
not be executed properly. This allows _PSD to be optional as it should
be.

LPSS SPI Chip Select control was lost over suspend/resume cycle on
Broadwell machine.

Instead of reverting above commit lets add LPSS private register
saving/restoring also for all LPSS SPI, I2C and UART controllers on
Lynxpoint and compatible chipset to make sure context is not lost in
case nothing else preserves it like firmware or if LPSS is always on.

b90ff3554a ACPI: PM: s2idle: Always set up EC GPE for system wakeup
Commit 10a08fd65e ("ACPI: PM: Set up EC GPE for system wakeup from
drivers that need it") assumed that the EC GPE would only need to be
set up for system wakeup if either the intel-hid or the intel-vbtn
driver was in use, but that turns out to be incorrect. In particular,
on ASUS Zenbook UX430UNR/i7-8550U, if the EC GPE is not enabled while
suspended, the system cannot be woken up by opening the lid or
pressing a key, and that machine doesn't use any of the drivers
mentioned above.

For this reason, always set up the EC GPE for system wakeup from
suspend-to-idle by setting and clearing its wake mask in the ACPI
suspend-to-idle callbacks.

41fa1ee9c6 acpi: Ignore acpi_rsdp kernel param when the kernel has been locked down
This option allows userspace to pass the RSDP address to the kernel, which
makes it possible for a user to modify the workings of hardware. Reject
the option when the kernel is locked down. This requires some reworking
of the existing RSDP command line logic, since the early boot code also
makes use of a command-line passed RSDP when locating the SRAT table
before the lockdown code has been initialised. This is achieved by
separating the command line RSDP path in the early boot code from the
generic RSDP path, and then copying the command line RSDP into boot
params in the kernel proper if lockdown is not enabled. If lockdown is
enabled and an RSDP is provided on the command line, this will only be
used when parsing SRAT (which shouldn't permit kernel code execution)
and will be ignored in the rest of the kernel.

(Modified by Matthew Garrett in order to handle the early boot RSDP
environment)

2c2b005f54 ACPI / processor: don't print errors for processorIDs == 0xff
Some platforms define their processors in this manner:

Name (_UID, "CPUSCK0") // _UID: Unique ID

	Processor (CP06, 0x05, 0x00000410, 0x06){}
	Processor (CP07, 0x07, 0x00000410, 0x06){}

	Processor (CP0A, 0xFF, 0x00000410, 0x06){}
	Processor (CP0B, 0xFF, 0x00000410, 0x06){}
...

The processors marked as 0xff are invalid, there are only 8 of them in
this case.

So do not print an error on ids == 0xff, just print an info message.
Actually, we could return ENODEV even on the first CPU with ID 0xff, but
ACPI spec does not forbid the 0xff value to be a processor ID. Given
0xff could be a correct one, we would break working systems if we
returned ENODEV.

ac9eafbe93 ACPI: PM: s2idle: Execute LPS0 _DSM functions with suspended devices
According to Section 3.5 of the "Intel Low Power S0 Idle" document [1],
Function 5 of the LPS0 _DSM is expected to be invoked when the system
configuration matches the criteria for entering the target low-power
state of the platform. In particular, this means that all devices
should be suspended and in low-power states already when that function
is invoked.

This is not the case currently, however, because Function 5 of the
LPS0 _DSM is invoked by it before the "noirq" phase of device suspend,
which means that some devices may not have been put into low-power
states yet at that point. That is a consequence of the previous
design of the suspend-to-idle flow that allowed the "noirq" phase of
device suspend and the "noirq" phase of device resume to be carried
out for multiple times while "suspended" (if any spurious wakeup
events were detected) and the point of the LPS0 _DSM Function 5
invocation was chosen so as to call it (and LPS0 _DSM Function 6
analogously) once per suspend-resume cycle (regardless of how many
times the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume were carried
out while "suspended").

Now that the suspend-to-idle flow has been redesigned to carry out
the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume once in each cycle,
the code can be reordered to follow the specification that it is
based on more closely.

For this purpose, add ->prepare_late and ->restore_early platform
callbacks for suspend-to-idle, to be executed, respectively, after
the "noirq" phase of suspending devices and before the "noirq"
phase of resuming them and make ACPI use them for the invocation
of LPS0 _DSM functions as appropriate.

While at it, move the LPS0 entry requirements check to be made
before invoking Functions 3 and 5 of the LPS0 _DSM (also once
per cycle) as follows from the specification [1].

3e77eeb7a2 ACPI/IORT: Rename arm_smmu_v3_set_proximity() 'node' local variable
Commit 36a2ba0775 ("ACPI/IORT: Reject platform device creation on NUMA
node mapping failure") introduced a local variable 'node' in
arm_smmu_v3_set_proximity() that shadows the struct acpi_iort_node
pointer function parameter.

Execution was unaffected but it is prone to errors and can lead
to subtle bugs.

Rename the local variable to prevent any issue.

Commit f850a48a07 ("ACPI: PM: Allow transitions to D0 to occur in

change the power.state value for the target device and if that
happens, it may confuse acpi_device_set_power() and cause it to
omit the _PS0 evaluation which on some systems is necessary to
change power states of devices from low-power to D0.

Fix that by saving the current value of power.state for the

10a08fd65e ACPI: PM: Set up EC GPE for system wakeup from drivers that need it
The EC GPE needs to be set up for system wakeup only if there is a
driver depending on it, either intel-hid or intel-vbtn, bound to a
button device that is expected to wake up the system from sleep (such
as the power button on some Dell systems, like the XPS13 9360). It
doesn't need to be set up for waking up the system from sleep in any
other cases and whether or not it is expected to wake up the system
from sleep doesn't depend on whether or not the LPS0 device is
present in the ACPI namespace.

For this reason, rearrange the ACPI suspend-to-idle code to make the
drivers depending on the EC GPE wakeup take care of setting it up and
decouple that from the LPS0 device handling.

While at it, make intel-hid and intel-vbtn prepare for system wakeup
only if they are allowed to wake up the system from sleep by user
space (via sysfs).

[Note that acpi_ec_mark_gpe_for_wake() and acpi_ec_set_gpe_wake_mask()
are there to prevent the EC GPE from being disabled by the
acpi_enable_all_wakeup_gpes() call in acpi_s2idle_prepare(), so on
systems with either intel-hid or intel-vbtn this change doesn't
affect any interactions with the hardware or platform firmware.]

56b9918490 PM: sleep: Simplify suspend-to-idle control flow
After commit 33e4f80ee6 ("ACPI / PM: Ignore spurious SCI wakeups
from suspend-to-idle") the "noirq" phases of device suspend and
resume may run for multiple times during suspend-to-idle, if there
are spurious system wakeup events while suspended. However, this
is complicated and fragile and actually unnecessary.

The main reason for doing this is that on some systems the EC may
signal system wakeup events (power button events, for example) as
well as events that should not cause the system to resume (spurious
system wakeup events). Thus, in order to determine whether or not
a given event signaled by the EC while suspended is a proper system
wakeup one, the EC GPE needs to be dispatched and to start with that
was achieved by allowing the ACPI SCI action handler to run, which
was only possible after calling resume_device_irqs().

However, dispatching the EC GPE this way turned out to take too much
time in some cases and some EC events might be missed due to that, so
commit 68e2201185 ("ACPI: EC: Dispatch the EC GPE directly on
s2idle wake") started to dispatch the EC GPE right after a wakeup
event has been detected, so in fact the full ACPI SCI action handler
doesn't need to run any more to deal with the wakeups coming from the
EC.

Use this observation to simplify the suspend-to-idle control flow
so that the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume are each
run only once in every suspend-to-idle cycle, which is reported to
significantly reduce power drawn by some systems when suspended to
idle (by allowing them to reach a deep platform-wide low-power state
through the suspend-to-idle flow). [What appears to happen is that
the "noirq" resume of devices after a spurious EC wakeup brings some
devices into a state in which they prevent the platform from reaching
the deep low-power state going forward, even after a subsequent
"noirq" suspend phase, and on some systems the EC triggers such
wakeups already when the "noirq" suspend of devices is running for
the first time in the given suspend/resume cycle, so the platform
cannot reach the deep low-power state at all.]

First, make acpi_s2idle_wake() use the acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() return
value to determine whether or not the wakeup may have been triggered
by the EC (in which case the system wakeup is canceled and ACPI
events are processed in order to determine whether or not the event
is a proper system wakeup one) and use rearm_wake_irq() (introduced
by a previous change) in it to rearm the ACPI SCI for system wakeup
detection in case the system will remain suspended.

Second, drop acpi_s2idle_sync(), which is not needed any more, and
the corresponding global platform suspend-to-idle callback.

Next, drop the pm_wakeup_pending() check (which is an optimization
only) from __device_suspend_noirq() to prevent it from returning
errors on system wakeups occurring before the "noirq" phase of
device suspend is complete (as in the case of suspend-to-idle it is
not known whether or not these wakeups are suprious at that point),
in order to avoid having to carry out a "noirq" resume of devices
on a spurious system wakeup.

Finally, change the code flow in s2idle_loop() to (1) run the
"noirq" suspend of devices once before starting the loop, (2) check
for spurious EC wakeups (via the platform ->wake callback) for the
first time before calling s2idle_enter(), and (3) run the "noirq"
resume of devices once after leaving the loop.

41275eb5c7 ACPI: PM: Set s2idle_wakeup earlier and clear it later
The role of the s2idle_wakeup variable is to cause
acpi_pm_wakeup_event() and acpi_pm_notify_handler() to
increment pm_abort_suspend and trigger a wakeup from
suspend-to-idle in case the ACPI SCI wakeup was canceled
by acpi_s2idle_wake().

However, for this purpose it need not be set in acpi_s2idle_wake()
and cleared in acpi_s2idle_sync(), respectively. In fact, it
may be set as early as in acpi_s2idle_prepare() and cleared as
late as in acpi_s2idle_restore(), so do that to allow subsequent
changes to be simpler.

9089f16e05 ACPI: EC: Return bool from acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe()
On some systems, if suspend-to-idle is used, the EC may signal system
wakeup events (power button events, for example) as well as events
that should not cause the system to resume and acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe()
needs to be called to determine whether or not the system should
resume then. In particular, if acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() doesn't detect
any EC events at all, the system should remain suspended, so it is
useful to know when that is the case.

For this reason, make acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() return a bool value

fbcf73ce65 mm/memory_hotplug: rename walk_memory_range() and pass start+size instead of pfns
walk_memory_range() was once used to iterate over sections. Now, it
iterates over memory blocks. Rename the function, fixup the
documentation.

Also, pass start+size instead of PFNs, which is what most callers
already have at hand. (we'll rework link_mem_sections() most probably
soon)

Follow-up patches will rework, simplify, and move walk_memory_blocks()
to drivers/base/memory.c.

Note: walk_memory_blocks() only works correctly right now if the
start_pfn is aligned to a section start. This is the case right now,
but we'll generalize the function in a follow up patch so the semantics
match the documentation.

87a30e1f05 driver-core, libnvdimm: Let device subsystems add local lockdep coverage
For good reason, the standard device_lock() is marked
lockdep_set_novalidate_class() because there is simply no sane way to
describe the myriad ways the device_lock() ordered with other locks.
However, that leaves subsystems that know their own local device_lock()
ordering rules to find lock ordering mistakes manually. Instead,
introduce an optional / additional lockdep-enabled lock that a subsystem
can acquire in all the same paths that the device_lock() is acquired.

A conversion of the NFIT driver and NVDIMM subsystem to a
lockdep-validate device_lock() scheme is included. The
debug_nvdimm_lock() implementation implements the correct lock-class and
stacking order for the libnvdimm device topology hierarchy.

Yes, this is a hack, but hopefully it is a useful hack for other
subsystems device_lock() debug sessions. Quoting Greg:

"Yeah, it feels a bit hacky but it's really up to a subsystem to mess up
using it as much as anything else, so user beware :)

I don't object to it if it makes things easier for you to debug."

persistent memory device that allows a guest VM to use DAX
mechanisms to access a host-file with host-page-cache. It arranges
for MAP_SYNC to be disabled and instead triggers a host fsync()
when a 'write-cache flush' command is sent to the virtual disk
     device.

4f7f96453b ACPI: video: Add new hw_changes_brightness quirk, set it on PB Easynote MZ35
Some machines change the brightness themselves when a brightness hotkey
gets pressed, despite us telling them not to. This causes the brightness to
go two steps up / down when the hotkey is pressed. This is esp. a problem
on older machines with only a few brightness levels.

This commit adds a new hw_changes_brightness quirk which makes
acpi_video_device_notify() only call backlight_force_update(...,
BACKLIGHT_UPDATE_HOTKEY) and not do anything else, notifying userspace
that the brightness was changed and leaving it at that fixing the dual
step problem.

f632a8170a Driver Core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1
Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1

It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api
changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.

Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
 	- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
 	- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
 	  entries in a simple way
 	- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
 	- default_attrs use for some ktype users
 	- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
 	- compressed firmware file loading
 	- deferred probe fixes

All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge
issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge
issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :)

e9a83bd232 It's been a relatively busy cycle for docs:
- A fair pile of RST conversions, many from Mauro. These create more
than the usual number of simple but annoying merge conflicts with other
trees, unfortunately. He has a lot more of these waiting on the wings
that, I think, will go to you directly later on.

  - A new document on how to use merges and rebases in kernel repos, and one
    on Spectre vulnerabilities.

  - Various improvements to the build system, including automatic markup of
function() references because some people, for reasons I will never
understand, were of the opinion that :c:func:``function()`` is
unattractive and not fun to type.

  - We now recommend using sphinx 1.7, but still support back to 1.4.

  - Lots of smaller improvements, warning fixes, typo fixes, etc.

markup of function() references because some people, for reasons I
will never understand, were of the opinion that
:c:func:``function()`` is unattractive and not fun to type.

13324c42c1 Merge branch 'x86-cpu-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 CPU feature updates from Thomas Gleixner:
 "Updates for x86 CPU features:

   - Support for UMWAIT/UMONITOR, which allows to use MWAIT and MONITOR
instructions in user space to save power e.g. in HPC workloads
which spin wait on synchronization points.

The maximum time a MWAIT can halt in userspace is controlled by the
kernel and can be adjusted by the sysadmin.

   - Speed up the MTRR handling code on CPUs which support cache
     self-snooping correctly.

On those CPUs the wbinvd() invocations can be omitted which speeds
up the MTRR setup by a factor of 50.

   - Support for the new x86 vendor Zhaoxin who develops processors
based on the VIA Centaur technology.

   - Prevent 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' from affecting isolated NOHZ_FULL CPUs
by sending IPIs to retrieve the CPU frequency and use the cached
     values instead.

   - The addition and late revert of the FSGSBASE support. The revert
was required as it turned out that the code still has hard to
diagnose issues. Yet another engineering trainwreck...

ad5a449b70 ACPI: PM: Make acpi_sleep_state_supported() non-static
With some upcoming patches to save/restore the Hyper-V drivers related
states, a Linux VM running on Hyper-V will be able to hibernate. When
a Linux VM hibernates, unluckily we must disable the memory hot-add/remove
and balloon up/down capabilities in the hv_balloon driver
(drivers/hv/hv_balloon.c), because these can not really work according to
the design of the related back-end driver on the host.

By default, Hyper-V does not enable the virtual ACPI S4 state for a VM;
on recent Hyper-V hosts, the administrator is able to enable the virtual
ACPI S4 state for a VM, so we hope to use the presence of the virtual ACPI
S4 state as a hint for hv_balloon to disable the aforementioned
capabilities. In this way, hibernation will work more reliably, from the
user's perspective.

By marking acpi_sleep_state_supported() non-static, we'll be able to
implement a hv_is_hibernation_supported() API in the always-built-in
module arch/x86/hyperv/hv_init.c, and the API will be called by hv_balloon.

c95b7595f8 ACPI: PM: Introduce "poweroff" callbacks for ACPI PM domain and LPSS
In general, it is not correct to call pm_generic_suspend(),
pm_generic_suspend_late() and pm_generic_suspend_noirq() during the
hibernation's "poweroff" transition, because device drivers may
provide special callbacks to be invoked then and the wrappers in
question cause system suspend callbacks to be run. Unfortunately,
that happens in the ACPI PM domain and ACPI LPSS.

To address this potential issue, introduce "poweroff" callbacks
for the ACPI PM and LPSS that will use pm_generic_poweroff(),
pm_generic_poweroff_late() and pm_generic_poweroff_noirq() as
appropriate.

3cd7957e85 ACPI: PM: Simplify and fix PM domain hibernation callbacks
First, after a previous change causing all runtime-suspended devices
in the ACPI PM domain (and ACPI LPSS devices) to be resumed before
creating a snapshot image of memory during hibernation, it is not
necessary to worry about the case in which them might be left in
runtime-suspend any more, so get rid of the code related to that from
ACPI PM domain and ACPI LPSS hibernation callbacks.

Second, it is not correct to use pm_generic_resume_early() and
acpi_subsys_resume_noirq() in hibernation "restore" callbacks (which
currently happens in the ACPI PM domain and ACPI LPSS), so introduce
proper _restore_late and _restore_noirq callbacks for the ACPI PM

56855a99f3 ACPI/PPTT: Add function to return ACPI 6.3 Identical tokens
ACPI 6.3 adds a flag to indicate that child nodes are all
identical cores. This is useful to authoritatively determine
if a set of (possibly offline) cores are identical or not.

Since the flag doesn't give us a unique id we can generate
one and use it to create bitmaps of sibling nodes, or simply
in a loop to determine if a subset of cores are identical.

ed2b664fcc ACPI/PPTT: Modify node flag detection to find last IDENTICAL
The ACPI specification implies that the IDENTICAL flag should be
set on all non leaf nodes where the children are identical.
This means that we need to be searching for the last node with
the identical flag set rather than the first one.

Since this flag is also dependent on the table revision, we
need to add a bit of extra code to verify the table revision,
and the next node's state in the traversal. Since we want to
avoid function pointers here, lets just special case
the IDENTICAL flag.

4533771c1e ACPI / PM: Introduce concept of a _PR0 dependent device
If there are shared power resources between otherwise unrelated devices
turning them on causes the other devices sharing them to be powered up
as well. In case of PCI devices go into D0uninitialized state meaning
that if they were configured to trigger wake that configuration is lost
at this point.

For this reason introduce a concept of "_PR0 dependent device" that can
be added to any ACPI device that has power resources. The dependent
device will be included in a list of dependent devices for all power
resources returned by the ACPI device's _PR0 (assuming it has one).
Whenever a power resource having dependent devices is turned physically
on (its _ON method is called) we runtime resume all of them to allow
their driver or in case of PCI the PCI core to re-initialize the device
and its wake configuration.

This adds two functions that can be used to add and remove these
dependent devices. Note the dependent device does not necessary need
share power resources so this functionality can be used to add "software
dependencies" as well if needed.

f850a48a07 ACPI: PM: Allow transitions to D0 to occur in special cases
If a device with ACPI PM is left in D0 during a system-wide
transition to the S3 (suspend-to-RAM) or S4 (hibernation) sleep
state, the actual state of the device need not be D0 during resume
from it, although its power.state value will still reflect D0 (that
is, the power state from before the system-wide transition).

In that case, the acpi_device_set_power() call made to ensure that
the power state of the device will be D0 going forward has no effect,
because the new state (D0) is equal to the one reflected by the
device's power.state value. That does not affect power resources,
which are taken care of by acpi_resume_power_resources() called from
acpi_pm_finish() during resume from system-wide sleep states, but it
still may be necessary to invoke _PS0 for the device on top of that
in order to finalize its transition to D0.

For this reason, modify acpi_device_set_power() to allow transitions
to D0 to occur even if D0 is the current power state of the device
according to its power.state value.

That will not affect power resources, which are assumed to be in
the right configuration already (as reflected by the current values
of their reference counters), but it may cause _PS0 to be evaluated
for the device. However, evaluating _PS0 for a device already in D0
may lead to confusion in general, so invoke _PSC (if present) to
check the device's current power state upfront and only evaluate
_PS0 for it if _PSC has returned a power state different from D0.
[If _PSC is not present or the evaluation of it fails, the power
state of the device is assumed to be D0 at this point.]

418e3ea157 bus_find_device: Unify the match callback with class_find_device
There is an arbitrary difference between the prototypes of
bus_find_device() and class_find_device() preventing their callers
from passing the same pair of data and match() arguments to both of
them, which is the const qualifier used in the prototype of
class_find_device(). If that qualifier is also used in the
bus_find_device() prototype, it will be possible to pass the same
match() callback function to both bus_find_device() and
class_find_device(), which will allow some optimizations to be made in
order to avoid code duplication going forward. Also with that, constify
the "data" parameter as it is passed as a const to the match function.

For this reason, change the prototype of bus_find_device() to match
the prototype of class_find_device() and adjust its callers to use the
const qualifier in accordance with the new prototype of it.

e6374f6b2e acpi: utils: Cleanup acpi_dev_match_cb
The prototype of bus_find_device() will be unified with that of
class_find_device() subsequently, but for this purpose the callback
functions passed to it need to take (const void *) as the second
argument. Consequently, they cannot modify the memory pointed to by
that argument which currently is not the case for acpi_dev_match_cb().
However, acpi_dev_match_cb() really need not modify the "match" object
passed to it, because acpi_dev_get_first_match_dev() which uses it via
bus_find_device() can easily convert the result of bus_find_device()
into the pointer to return.

For this reason, update acpi_dev_match_cb() to avoid the redundant
memory updates.
