init: consolidate prototypes in linux/init.h
The init/main.c file contains some extern declarations for functions defined in architecture code, and it defines some other functions that are called from architecture code with a custom prototype. Both of those result in warnings with 'make W=1': init/calibrate.c:261:37: error: no previous prototype for 'calibrate_delay_is_known' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/main.c:790:20: error: no previous prototype for 'mem_encrypt_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/main.c:792:20: error: no previous prototype for 'poking_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm64/kernel/irq.c:122:13: error: no previous prototype for 'init_IRQ' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm64/kernel/time.c:55:13: error: no previous prototype for 'time_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/x86/kernel/process.c:935:13: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_post_acpi_subsys_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/calibrate.c:261:37: error: no previous prototype for 'calibrate_delay_is_known' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] kernel/fork.c:991:20: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_task_cache_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] Add prototypes for all of these in include/linux/init.h or another appropriate header, and remove the duplicate declarations from architecture specific code. locking/atomic: sparc: add preprocessor symbols
Some atomics can be implemented in several different ways, e.g. FULL/ACQUIRE/RELEASE ordered atomics can be implemented in terms of RELAXED atomics, and ACQUIRE/RELEASE/RELAXED can be implemented in terms of FULL ordered atomics. Other atomics are optional, and don't exist in some configurations (e.g. not all architectures implement the 128-bit cmpxchg ops). Subsequent patches will require that architectures define a preprocessor symbol for any atomic (or ordering variant) which is optional. This will make the fallback ifdeffery more robust, and simplify future changes. Add the required definitions to arch/sparc. locking/atomic: make atomic*_{cmp,}xchg optional
Most architectures define the atomic/atomic64 xchg and cmpxchg operations in terms of arch_xchg and arch_cmpxchg respectfully. Add fallbacks for these cases and remove the trivial cases from arch code. On some architectures the existing definitions are kept as these are used to build other arch_atomic*() operations. fbdev: Rename fb_mem*() helpers
Update the names of the fb_mem*() helpers to be consistent with their regular counterparts. Hence, fb_memset() now becomes fb_memset_io(), fb_memcpy_fromfb() now becomes fb_memcpy_fromio() and fb_memcpy_tofb() becomes fb_memcpy_toio(). fbdev: Move framebuffer I/O helpers into <asm/fb.h>
Implement framebuffer I/O helpers, such as fb_read*() and fb_write*(), in the architecture's <asm/fb.h> header file or the generic one. The common case has been the use of regular I/O functions, such as __raw_readb() or memset_io(). A few architectures used plain system- memory reads and writes. Sparc used helpers for its SBus. The architectures that used special cases provide the same code in their __raw_*() I/O helpers. So the patch replaces this code with the __raw_*() functions and moves it to <asm-generic/fb.h> for all architectures. v8: * remove garbage after commit-message tags v6: * fix fb_readq()/fb_writeq() on 64-bit mips (kernel test robot) v5: * include <linux/io.h> in <asm-generic/fb>; fix s390 build v4: * ia64, loongarch, sparc64: add fb_mem*() to arch headers to keep current semantics (Arnd) v3: * implement all architectures with generic helpers * support reordering and native byte order (Geert, Arnd) Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Tested-by: Sui Jingfeng <suijingfeng@loongson.cn> Reviewed-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20230512102444.5438-7-tzimmermann@suse.de |

sparc/mm: don't unconditionally set HW writable bit when setting PTE dirty on 64bit
On sparc64, there is no HW modified bit, therefore, SW tracks via a SW bit if the PTE is dirty via pte_mkdirty(). However, pte_mkdirty() currently also unconditionally sets the HW writable bit, which is wrong. pte_mkdirty() is not supposed to make a PTE actually writable, unless the SW writable bit -- pte_write() -- indicates that the PTE is not write-protected. Fortunately, sparc64 also defines a SW writable bit. For example, this already turned into a problem in the context of THP splitting as documented in commit |

mm: Introduce untagged_addr_remote()
untagged_addr() removes tags/metadata from the address and brings it to the canonical form. The helper is implemented on arm64 and sparc. Both of them do untagging based on global rules. However, Linear Address Masking (LAM) on x86 introduces per-process settings for untagging. As a result, untagged_addr() is now only suitable for untagging addresses for the current proccess. The new helper untagged_addr_remote() has to be used when the address targets remote process. It requires the mmap lock for target mm to be taken. Signed-off-by: Kirill A. Driver core changes for 6.3-rc1
Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.3-rc1. There's a lot of changes this development cycle, most of the work falls into two different categories: - fw_devlink fixes and updates. This has gone through numerous review cycles and lots of review and testing by lots of different devices. Hopefully all should be good now, and Saravana will be keeping a watch for any potential regression on odd embedded systems. - driver core changes to work to make struct bus_type able to be moved into read-only memory (i.e. const) The recent work with Rust has pointed out a number of areas in the driver core where we are passing around and working with structures that really do not have to be dynamic at all, and they should be able to be read-only making things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work (started last release with kobject changes) in moving struct bus_type to be constant. We didn't quite make it for this release, but the remaining patches will be finished up for the release after this one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort. Other than that we have in here: - debugfs memory leak fixes in some subsystems - error path cleanups and fixes for some never-able-to-be-hit codepaths. - cacheinfo rework and fixes - Other tiny fixes, full details are in the shortlog All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported problems. mm: remove kern_addr_valid() completely
Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's remove it. TTY/Serial driver update for 6.1-rc1
Here is the big set of TTY and Serial driver updates for 6.1-rc1. Lots of cleanups in here, no real new functionality this time around, with the diffstat being that we removed more lines than we added! Included in here are: - termios unification cleanups from Al Viro, it's nice to finally get this work done - tty serial transmit cleanups in various drivers in preparation for more cleanup and unification in future releases (that work was not ready for this release.) - n_gsm fixes and updates - ktermios cleanups and code reductions - dt bindings json conversions and updates for new devices - some serial driver updates for new devices - lots of other tiny cleanups and janitorial stuff. asm-generic updates for v6.1
This contains a series from Linus Walleij to unify the linux/io.h interface by making the ia64, alpha, parisc and sparc include asm-generic/io.h. All functions provided by the generic header are now available to all drivers, but the architectures can still override this. For the moment, mips and sh still don't include asm-generic/io.h but provide a full set of functions themselves. termios: get rid of non-UAPI asm/termios.h
All non-UAPI asm/termios.h consist of include of UAPI counterpart and, possibly, include of linux/uaccess.h The latter can't be simply removed, even though nothing in linux/termios.h doesn't depend upon it anymore - there are several places that rely upon that indirect chain of includes to pull linux/uaccess.h. So the include needs to be lifted out of there - we lift into tty_driver.h, serdev.h and places that pull asm/termios.h, but none of * linux/uaccess.h (obvious) * net/sock.h (pulls uaccess.h) * linux/{tty,tty_driver,serdev}.h (tty.h pulls tty_driver.h) That leaves us just with the include of UAPI asm/termios.h, which is what <asm/termios.h> will resolve to if we simply remove non-UAPI header. termios: consolidate values for VDISCARD in INIT_C_CC
On old systems it used to be ^O. Linux had never actually used the value, but INIT_C_CC (on i386) did initialize it to ^O; unfortunately, it had a typo in the comment claiming that to be ^U. Most of the architectures copied the (correct) definition along with mistaken comment. alpha, powerpc and sparc tried to make the definition match comment. However, util-linux still resets it to ^O on any architecture, ^O is the historical value, kernel ignores it anyway and finally, Linus said "Just change everybody to do the same, nobody cares about VDISCARD". sparc: Fix the generic IO helpers
This enables the Sparc to use <asm-generic/io.h> to fill in the missing (undefined) [read|write]sq I/O accessor functions. This is needed if Sparc[64] ever wants to uses CONFIG_REGMAP_MMIO which has been patches to use accelerated _noinc accessors such as readsq/writesq that Sparc64, while being a 64bit platform, as of now not yet provide. This comes with the requirement that everything the architecture already provides needs to be defined, rather than just being, say, static inline functions. Bite the bullet and just provide the definitions and make it work. Compile-tested on sparc32 and sparc64. sparc: Use generic pci_mmap_resource_range()
The main feature of the sparc-specific implementation of
pci_mmap_resource_range() is that it allows mapping the entire PCI I/O
space for a PCI host bridge using the /proc/bus/pci interface on a bridge
device.
The generic implementation cannot do this, but it also appears that this
got broken for sparc by commit

PCI: Move isa_dma_bridge_buggy out of asm/dma.h
The isa_dma_bridge_buggy symbol is only used for x86_32, and only x86_32 platforms or quirks ever set it. Add a new linux/isa-dma.h header that #defines isa_dma_bridge_buggy to 0 except on x86_32, where we keep it as a variable, and remove all the arch- specific definitions. PCI: Remove pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() and asm-generic/pci.h
pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is only used on platforms that support PNP, so many architectures define it but never use it. Replace uses of it with ATA_PRIMARY_IRQ() and ATA_SECONDARY_IRQ(), which provide the same functionality. Since pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is no longer used, remove all the architecture-specific definitions of it as well as asm-generic/pci.h, which only provides pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() [bhelgaas: commit log] Co-developed-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220722214944.831438-2-shorne@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Stafford Horne <shorne@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> Reviewed-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Acked-by: Pierre Morel <pmorel@linux.ibm.com> Acked-by: Rafael J. mmu_gather: Remove per arch tlb_{start,end}_vma()
Scattered across the archs are 3 basic forms of tlb_{start,end}_vma(). Provide two new MMU_GATHER_knobs to enumerate them and remove the per arch tlb_{start,end}_vma() implementations. - MMU_GATHER_NO_FLUSH_CACHE indicates the arch has flush_cache_range() but does *NOT* want to call it for each VMA. - MMU_GATHER_MERGE_VMAS indicates the arch wants to merge the invalidate across multiple VMAs if possible. With these it is possible to capture the three forms: 1) empty stubs; select MMU_GATHER_NO_FLUSH_CACHE and MMU_GATHER_MERGE_VMAS 2) start: flush_cache_range(), end: empty; select MMU_GATHER_MERGE_VMAS 3) start: flush_cache_range(), end: flush_tlb_range(); default Obviously, if the architecture does not have flush_cache_range() then it also doesn't need to select MMU_GATHER_NO_FLUSH_CACHE. bitops: wrap non-atomic bitops with a transparent macro
In preparation for altering the non-atomic bitops with a macro, wrap them in a transparent definition. This requires prepending one more '_' to their names in order to be able to do that seamlessly. It is a simple change, given that all the non-prefixed definitions are now in asm-generic. sparc32 already has several triple-underscored functions, so I had to rename them ('___' -> 'sp32_'). Munchun Song adds a /proc knob ("hugetlb_optimize_vmemmap") for runtime enablement of the recent huge page vmemmap optimization feature. Baolin Wang contributes a series to fix some issues around hugetlb pagetable invalidation. Zhenwei Pi has fixed some interactions between hwpoisoned pages and virtualization. Tong Tiangen has enabled the use of the presently x86-only page_table_check debugging feature on arm64 and riscv. David Vernet has done some fixup work on the memcg selftests. Peter Xu has taught userfaultfd to handle write protection faults against shmem- and hugetlbfs-backed files. More DAMON development from SeongJae Park - adding online tuning of the feature and support for monitoring of fixed virtual address ranges. Also easier discovery of which monitoring operations are available. Nadav Amit has done some optimization of TLB flushing during mprotect(). Neil Brown continues to labor away at improving our swap-over-NFS support. David Hildenbrand has some fixes to anon page COWing versus get_user_pages(). Peng Liu fixed some errors in the core hugetlb code. Joao Martins has reduced the amount of memory consumed by device-dax's compound devmaps. asm-generic changes for 5.19
The asm-generic tree contains three separate changes for linux-5.19: - The h8300 architecture is retired after it has been effectively unmaintained for a number of years. This is the last architecture we supported that has no MMU implementation, but there are still a few architectures (arm, m68k, riscv, sh and xtensa) that support CPUs with and without an MMU. - A series to add a generic ticket spinlock that can be shared by most architectures with a working cmpxchg or ll/sc type atomic, including the conversion of riscv, csky and openrisc. This series is also a prerequisite for the loongarch64 architecture port that will come as a separate pull request. - A cleanup of some exported uapi header files to ensure they can be included from user space without relying on other kernel headers. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmKPlXoACgkQmmx57+YA GNkxrRAAnuSgOUo9JC5C4Gm2Q9yhEUHU1QIYeVO0jlan5CkF18bo1Loptq4MdQtO /0pXJPH8rFhDSJQLetO4AAjEMDfJGR5ibmf7SasO03HjqC9++fIeN047MbnkHAwY hFqIkgqn4l+g1RMWK5WUSDJ3XQ7p5/yWzpg/CuxJ+D0w9by/LWI5A+2NKGXOS3GF yi7cWvIKC1l+PmrH3BFA+JYVTvFzlr9P6x5pSEBi6HmjGQR+Xn3s0bnIf6DGRZ+B Q6v03kMxtcqI9e9C0r0r7ZGbdMuRTYbGrksa4EfK0yJM9P0HchhTtT9zawAK7Ddv VMM4B+9r60UEM++hOLS6XrLJdn+Fv+OJDnhONb5c+Mndd8cwV1JbOlVbUlGkn92e WSdUCW6m0TBzDs9Ae1++1kUl1LodlcmSzxlb0ueAhU01QacCPlneyIEKUhcrCl5w ITVw4YVa/BVCh+HvTEdhhak/Qb/nWiojMY+UIH5smiwj6FSFdwEmmgCgHAKprQaA STMxRnccFknGW9CZheoMATYsPIHQKPlm9lbiulSoMLDHxGwshU/6vKD4HDoZU51d HPmUZeKVPahXCUXB4iFI3qD4Ltxaru9VbgfUiY18VB2oc6Mk+0oeh6luqwsrgBdz P2sQ2riZKhN5Frm3DCh7IbJqoqKHlLMWh0itpNllgP5SDmDJjng= =ri2Q -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "The asm-generic tree contains three separate changes for linux-5.19: - The h8300 architecture is retired after it has been effectively unmaintained for a number of years. Networking changes for 5.19.
Core ---- - Support TCPv6 segmentation offload with super-segments larger than 64k bytes using the IPv6 Jumbogram extension header (AKA BIG TCP). - Generalize skb freeing deferral to per-cpu lists, instead of per-socket lists. - Add a netdev statistic for packets dropped due to L2 address mismatch (rx_otherhost_dropped). - Continue work annotating skb drop reasons. - Accept alternative netdev names (ALT_IFNAME) in more netlink requests. - Add VLAN support for AF_PACKET SOCK_RAW GSO. - Allow receiving skb mark from the socket as a cmsg. - Enable memcg accounting for veth queues, sysctl tables and IPv6. BPF --- - Add libbpf support for User Statically-Defined Tracing (USDTs). - Speed up symbol resolution for kprobes multi-link attachments. - Support storing typed pointers to referenced and unreferenced objects in BPF maps. - Add support for BPF link iterator. - Introduce access to remote CPU map elements in BPF per-cpu map. - Allow middle-of-the-road settings for the kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled sysctl. - Implement basic types of dynamic pointers e.g. to allow for dynamically sized ringbuf reservations without extra memory copies. Protocols --------- - Retire port only listening_hash table, add a second bind table hashed by port and address. Avoid linear list walk when binding to very popular ports (e.g. 443). - Add bridge FDB bulk flush filtering support allowing user space to remove all FDB entries matching a condition. - Introduce accept_unsolicited_na sysctl for IPv6 to implement router-side changes for RFC9131. - Support for MPTCP path manager in user space. - Add MPTCP support for fallback to regular TCP for connections that have never connected additional subflows or transmitted out-of-sequence data (partial support for RFC8684 fallback). - Avoid races in MPTCP-level window tracking, stabilize and improve throughput. - Support lockless operation of GRE tunnels with seq numbers enabled. - WiFi support for host based BSS color collision detection. - Add support for SO_TXTIME/SCM_TXTIME on CAN sockets. - Support transmission w/o flow control in CAN ISOTP (ISO 15765-2). - Support zero-copy Tx with TLS 1.2 crypto offload (sendfile). - Allow matching on the number of VLAN tags via tc-flower. - Add tracepoint for tcp_set_ca_state(). Driver API ---------- - Improve error reporting from classifier and action offload. - Add support for listing line cards in switches (devlink). - Add helpers for reporting page pool statistics with ethtool -S. - Add support for reading clock cycles when using PTP virtual clocks, instead of having the driver convert to time before reporting. This makes it possible to report time from different vclocks. - Support configuring low-latency Tx descriptor push via ethtool. - Separate Clause 22 and Clause 45 MDIO accesses more explicitly. New hardware / drivers ---------------------- - Ethernet: - Marvell's Octeon NIC PCI Endpoint support (octeon_ep) - Sunplus SP7021 SoC (sp7021_emac) - Add support for Renesas RZ/V2M (in ravb) - Add support for MediaTek mt7986 switches (in mtk_eth_soc) - Ethernet PHYs: - ADIN1100 industrial PHYs (w/ 10BASE-T1L and SQI reporting) - TI DP83TD510 PHY - Microchip LAN8742/LAN88xx PHYs - WiFi: - Driver for pureLiFi X, XL, XC devices (plfxlc) - Driver for Silicon Labs devices (wfx) - Support for WCN6750 (in ath11k) - Support Realtek 8852ce devices (in rtw89) - Mobile: - MediaTek T700 modems (Intel 5G 5000 M.2 cards) - CAN: - ctucanfd: add support for CTU CAN FD open-source IP core from Czech Technical University in Prague Drivers ------- - Delete a number of old drivers still using virt_to_bus(). - Ethernet NICs: - intel: support TSO on tunnels MPLS - broadcom: support multi-buffer XDP - nfp: support VF rate limiting - sfc: use hardware tx timestamps for more than PTP - mlx5: multi-port eswitch support - hyper-v: add support for XDP_REDIRECT - atlantic: XDP support (including multi-buffer) - macb: improve real-time perf by deferring Tx processing to NAPI - High-speed Ethernet switches: - mlxsw: implement basic line card information querying - prestera: add support for traffic policing on ingress and egress - Embedded Ethernet switches: - lan966x: add support for packet DMA (FDMA) - lan966x: add support for PTP programmable pins - ti: cpsw_new: enable bc/mc storm prevention - Qualcomm 802.11ax WiFi (ath11k): - Wake-on-WLAN support for QCA6390 and WCN6855 - device recovery (firmware restart) support - support setting Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for WCN6855 - read country code from SMBIOS for WCN6855/QCA6390 - enable keep-alive during WoWLAN suspend - implement remain-on-channel support - MediaTek WiFi (mt76): - support Wireless Ethernet Dispatch offloading packet movement between the Ethernet switch and WiFi interfaces - non-standard VHT MCS10-11 support - mt7921 AP mode support - mt7921 IPv6 NS offload support - Ethernet PHYs: - micrel: ksz9031/ksz9131: cabletest support - lan87xx: SQI support for T1 PHYs - lan937x: add interrupt support for link detection Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE6jPA+I1ugmIBA4hXMUZtbf5SIrsFAmKNMPQACgkQMUZtbf5S IrsRARAAuDyYs6jFYB3p+xazZdOnbF4iAgVv71+DQGvmsCl6CB9OrsNZMlvE85OL Q3gjcRbgjrkN4lhgI8DmiGYbsUJnAvVjFdNjccz1Z/vTLYvuIM0ol54MUp5S+9WY StncOJkOGJxxR/Gi5gzVmejPDsysU3Jik+hm/fpIcz8pybXxAsFKU5waY5qfl+/T TZepfV0VCfqRDjqcF1qA5+jJZNU8pdodQlZ1+mh8bwu6Jk1ZkWkj6Ov8MWdwQldr LnPeK/9hIGzkdJYHZfajxA3t8D0K5CHzSuih2bJ9ry8ZXgVBkXEThew778/R5izW uB0YZs9COFlrIP7XHjtRTy/2xHOdYIPlj2nWhVdfuQDX8Crvt4VRN6EZ1rjko1ZJ WanfG6WHF8NH5pXBRQbh3kIMKBnYn6OIzuCfCQSqd+niHcxFIM4vRiggeXI5C5TW vJgEWfK6X+NfDiFVa3xyCrEmp5ieA/pNecpwd8rVkql+MtFAAw4vfsotLKOJEAru J/XL6UE+YuLqIJV9ACZ9x1AFXXAo661jOxBunOo4VXhXVzWS9lYYz5r5ryIkgT/8 /Fr0zjANJWgfIuNdIBtYfQ4qG+LozGq038VA06RhFUAZ5tF9DzhqJs2Q2AFuWWBC ewCePJVqo1j2Ceq2mGonXRt47OEnlePoOxTk9W+cKZb7ZWE+zEo= =Wjii -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'net-next-5.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski: "Core ---- - Support TCPv6 segmentation offload with super-segments larger than 64k bytes using the IPv6 Jumbogram extension header (AKA BIG TCP). - Generalize skb freeing deferral to per-cpu lists, instead of per-socket lists. - Add a netdev statistic for packets dropped due to L2 address mismatch (rx_otherhost_dropped). - Continue work annotating skb drop reasons. - Accept alternative netdev names (ALT_IFNAME) in more netlink requests. - Add VLAN support for AF_PACKET SOCK_RAW GSO. - Allow receiving skb mark from the socket as a cmsg. - Enable memcg accounting for veth queues, sysctl tables and IPv6. mm: change huge_ptep_clear_flush() to return the original pte
Patch series "Fix CONT-PTE/PMD size hugetlb issue when unmapping or migrating", v4. presently, migrating a hugetlb page or unmapping a poisoned hugetlb page, we'll use ptep_clear_flush() and set_pte_at() to nuke the page table entry and remap it, and this is incorrect for CONT-PTE or CONT-PMD size hugetlb page, which will cause potential data consistent issue. This patch set will change to use hugetlb related APIs to fix this issue. Note: Mike pointed out the huge_ptep_get() will only return the one specific value, and it would not take into account the dirty or young bits of CONT-PTE/PMDs like the huge_ptep_get_and_clear() [1]. This inconsistent issue is not introduced by this patch set, and this issue will be addressed in another thread [2]. Meanwhile the uffd for hugetlb case [3] pointed out by Gerald also needs another patch to address. So this is a preparation patch, which changes the huge_ptep_clear_flush() to return the original pte to help to nuke a hugetlb page table. sparc: use fallback for random_get_entropy() instead of zero
In the event that random_get_entropy() can't access a cycle counter or similar, falling back to returning 0 is really not the best we can do. Instead, at least calling random_get_entropy_fallback() would be preferable, because that always needs to return _something_, even falling back to jiffies eventually. It's not as though random_get_entropy_fallback() is super high precision or guaranteed to be entropic, but basically anything that's not zero all the time is better than returning zero all the time. This is accomplished by just including the asm-generic code like on other architectures, which means we can get rid of the empty stub function here. uapi: always define F_GETLK64/F_SETLK64/F_SETLKW64 in fcntl.h
The F_GETLK64/F_SETLK64/F_SETLKW64 fcntl opcodes are only implemented for the 32-bit syscall APIs, but are also needed for compat handling on 64-bit kernels. Consolidate them in unistd.h instead of definining the internal compat definitions in compat.h, which is rather error prone (e.g. parisc gets the values wrong currently). Note that before this change they were never visible to userspace due to the fact that CONFIG_64BIT is only set for kernel builds. Networking changes for 5.18.
Core ---- - Introduce XDP multi-buffer support, allowing the use of XDP with jumbo frame MTUs and combination with Rx coalescing offloads (LRO). - Speed up netns dismantling (5x) and lower the memory cost a little. Remove unnecessary per-netns sockets. Scope some lists to a netns. Cut down RCU syncing. Use batch methods. Allow netdev registration to complete out of order. - Support distinguishing timestamp types (ingress vs egress) and maintaining them across packet scrubbing points (e.g. redirect). - Continue the work of annotating packet drop reasons throughout the stack. - Switch netdev error counters from an atomic to dynamically allocated per-CPU counters. - Rework a few preempt_disable(), local_irq_save() and busy waiting sections problematic on PREEMPT_RT. - Extend the ref_tracker to allow catching use-after-free bugs. BPF --- - Introduce "packing allocator" for BPF JIT images. JITed code is marked read only, and used to be allocated at page granularity. Custom allocator allows for more efficient memory use, lower iTLB pressure and prevents identity mapping huge pages from getting split. - Make use of BTF type annotations (e.g. __user, __percpu) to enforce the correct probe read access method, add appropriate helpers. - Convert the BPF preload to use light skeleton and drop the user-mode-driver dependency. - Allow XDP BPF_PROG_RUN test infra to send real packets, enabling its use as a packet generator. - Allow local storage memory to be allocated with GFP_KERNEL if called from a hook allowed to sleep. - Introduce fprobe (multi kprobe) to speed up mass attachment (arch bits to come later). - Add unstable conntrack lookup helpers for BPF by using the BPF kfunc infra. - Allow cgroup BPF progs to return custom errors to user space. - Add support for AF_UNIX iterator batching. - Allow iterator programs to use sleepable helpers. - Support JIT of add, and, or, xor and xchg atomic ops on arm64. - Add BTFGen support to bpftool which allows to use CO-RE in kernels without BTF info. - Large number of libbpf API improvements, cleanups and deprecations. Protocols --------- - Micro-optimize UDPv6 Tx, gaining up to 5% in test on dummy netdev. - Adjust TSO packet sizes based on min_rtt, allowing very low latency links (data centers) to always send full-sized TSO super-frames. - Make IPv6 flow label changes (AKA hash rethink) more configurable, via sysctl and setsockopt. Distinguish between server and client behavior. - VxLAN support to "collect metadata" devices to terminate only configured VNIs. This is similar to VLAN filtering in the bridge. - Support inserting IPv6 IOAM information to a fraction of frames. - Add protocol attribute to IP addresses to allow identifying where given address comes from (kernel-generated, DHCP etc.) - Support setting socket and IPv6 options via cmsg on ping6 sockets. - Reject mis-use of ECN bits in IP headers as part of DSCP/TOS. Define dscp_t and stop taking ECN bits into account in fib-rules. - Add support for locked bridge ports (for 802.1X). - tun: support NAPI for packets received from batched XDP buffs, doubling the performance in some scenarios. - IPv6 extension header handling in Open vSwitch. - Support IPv6 control message load balancing in bonding, prevent neighbor solicitation and advertisement from using the wrong port. Support NS/NA monitor selection similar to existing ARP monitor. - SMC - improve performance with TCP_CORK and sendfile() - support auto-corking - support TCP_NODELAY - MCTP (Management Component Transport Protocol) - add user space tag control interface - I2C binding driver (as specified by DMTF DSP0237) - Multi-BSSID beacon handling in AP mode for WiFi. - Bluetooth: - handle MSFT Monitor Device Event - add MGMT Adv Monitor Device Found/Lost events - Multi-Path TCP: - add support for the SO_SNDTIMEO socket option - lots of selftest cleanups and improvements - Increase the max PDU size in CAN ISOTP to 64 kB. Driver API ---------- - Add HW counters for SW netdevs, a mechanism for devices which offload packet forwarding to report packet statistics back to software interfaces such as tunnels. - Select the default NIC queue count as a fraction of number of physical CPU cores, instead of hard-coding to 8. - Expose devlink instance locks to drivers. Allow device layer of drivers to use that lock directly instead of creating their own which always runs into ordering issues in devlink callbacks. - Add header/data split indication to guide user space enabling of TCP zero-copy Rx. - Allow configuring completion queue event size. - Refactor page_pool to enable fragmenting after allocation. - Add allocation and page reuse statistics to page_pool. - Improve Multiple Spanning Trees support in the bridge to allow reuse of topologies across VLANs, saving HW resources in switches. - DSA (Distributed Switch Architecture): - replay and offload of host VLAN entries - offload of static and local FDB entries on LAG interfaces - FDB isolation and unicast filtering New hardware / drivers ---------------------- - Ethernet: - LAN937x T1 PHYs - Davicom DM9051 SPI NIC driver - Realtek RTL8367S, RTL8367RB-VB switch and MDIO - Microchip ksz8563 switches - Netronome NFP3800 SmartNICs - Fungible SmartNICs - MediaTek MT8195 switches - WiFi: - mt76: MediaTek mt7916 - mt76: MediaTek mt7921u USB adapters - brcmfmac: Broadcom BCM43454/6 - Mobile: - iosm: Intel M.2 7360 WWAN card Drivers ------- - Convert many drivers to the new phylink API built for split PCS designs but also simplifying other cases. - Intel Ethernet NICs: - add TTY for GNSS module for E810T device - improve AF_XDP performance - GTP-C and GTP-U filter offload - QinQ VLAN support - Mellanox Ethernet NICs (mlx5): - support xdp->data_meta - multi-buffer XDP - offload tc push_eth and pop_eth actions - Netronome Ethernet NICs (nfp): - flow-independent tc action hardware offload (police / meter) - AF_XDP - Other Ethernet NICs: - at803x: fiber and SFP support - xgmac: mdio: preamble suppression and custom MDC frequencies - r8169: enable ASPM L1.2 if system vendor flags it as safe - macb/gem: ZynqMP SGMII - hns3: add TX push mode - dpaa2-eth: software TSO - lan743x: multi-queue, mdio, SGMII, PTP - axienet: NAPI and GRO support - Mellanox Ethernet switches (mlxsw): - source and dest IP address rewrites - RJ45 ports - Marvell Ethernet switches (prestera): - basic routing offload - multi-chain TC ACL offload - NXP embedded Ethernet switches (ocelot & felix): - PTP over UDP with the ocelot-8021q DSA tagging protocol - basic QoS classification on Felix DSA switch using dcbnl - port mirroring for ocelot switches - Microchip high-speed industrial Ethernet (sparx5): - offloading of bridge port flooding flags - PTP Hardware Clock - Other embedded switches: - lan966x: PTP Hardward Clock - qca8k: mdio read/write operations via crafted Ethernet packets - Qualcomm 802.11ax WiFi (ath11k): - add LDPC FEC type and 802.11ax High Efficiency data in radiotap - enable RX PPDU stats in monitor co-exist mode - Intel WiFi (iwlwifi): - UHB TAS enablement via BIOS - band disablement via BIOS - channel switch offload - 32 Rx AMPDU sessions in newer devices - MediaTek WiFi (mt76): - background radar detection - thermal management improvements on mt7915 - SAR support for more mt76 platforms - MBSSID and 6 GHz band on mt7915 - RealTek WiFi: - rtw89: AP mode - rtw89: 160 MHz channels and 6 GHz band - rtw89: hardware scan - Bluetooth: - mt7921s: wake on Bluetooth, SCO over I2S, wide-band-speed (WBS) - Microchip CAN (mcp251xfd): - multiple RX-FIFOs and runtime configurable RX/TX rings - internal PLL, runtime PM handling simplification - improve chip detection and error handling after wakeup Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE6jPA+I1ugmIBA4hXMUZtbf5SIrsFAmI7YBcACgkQMUZtbf5S IrveSBAAmSNJlUK6vPsnNzs7IhsZnfI/AUjm2TCLZnlhKttbpI4A/4Pohk33V7RS FGX7f8kjEfhUwrIiLDgeCnztNHRECrCmk6aZc/jLEvecmTauJ+f6kjShkDY/wix+ AkPHmrZnQeLPAEVuljDdV+sL6ik08+zQL7PazIYHsaSKKC0MGQptRwcri8PLRAKE KPBAhVhleq2rAZ/ntprSN52F4Af6rpFTrPIWuN8Bqdbc9dy5094LT0mpOOWYvgr3 /DLvvAPuLemwyIQkjWknVKBRUAQcmNPC+BY3J8K3LRaiNhekGqOFan46BfqP+k2J 6DWu0Qrp2yWt4BMOeEToZR5rA6v5suUAMIBu8PRZIDkINXQMlIxHfGjZyNm0rVfw 7edNri966yus9OdzwPa32MIG3oC6PnVAwYCJAjjBMNS8sSIkp7wgHLkgWN4UFe2H K/e6z8TLF4UQ+zFM0aGI5WZ+9QqWkTWEDF3R3OhdFpGrznna0gxmkOeV2YvtsgxY cbS0vV9Zj73o+bYzgBKJsw/dAjyLdXoHUGvus26VLQ78S/VGunVKtItwoxBAYmZo krW964qcC89YofzSi8RSKLHuEWtNWZbVm8YXr75u6jpr5GhMBu0CYefLs+BuZcxy dw8c69cGneVbGZmY2J3rBhDkchbuICl8vdUPatGrOJAoaFdYKuw= =ELpe -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'net-next-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski: "The sprinkling of SPI drivers is because we added a new one and Mark sent us a SPI driver interface conversion pull request. asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. Merge branch 'set_fs-4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic into asm-generic
Christoph Hellwig and a few others spent a huge effort on removing set_fs() from most of the important architectures, but about half the other architectures were never completed even though most of them don't actually use set_fs() at all. I did a patch for microblaze at some point, which turned out to be fairly generic, and now ported it to most other architectures, using new generic implementations of access_ok() and __{get,put}_kernel_nocheck(). Three architectures (sparc64, ia64, and sh) needed some extra work, which I also completed. * 'set_fs-4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic: uaccess: remove CONFIG_SET_FS ia64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support sh: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support sparc64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support lib/test_lockup: fix kernel pointer check for separate address spaces uaccess: generalize access_ok() uaccess: fix type mismatch warnings from access_ok() arm64: simplify access_ok() m68k: fix access_ok for coldfire MIPS: use simpler access_ok() MIPS: Handle address errors for accesses above CPU max virtual user address uaccess: add generic __{get,put}_kernel_nofault nios2: drop access_ok() check from __put_user() x86: use more conventional access_ok() definition x86: remove __range_not_ok() sparc64: add __{get,put}_kernel_nofault() nds32: fix access_ok() checks in get/put_user uaccess: fix nios2 and microblaze get_user_8() uaccess: fix integer overflow on access_ok() |

uaccess: remove CONFIG_SET_FS
There are no remaining callers of set_fs(), so CONFIG_SET_FS can be removed globally, along with the thread_info field and any references to it. This turns access_ok() into a cheaper check against TASK_SIZE_MAX. As CONFIG_SET_FS is now gone, drop all remaining references to set_fs()/get_fs(), mm_segment_t, user_addr_max() and uaccess_kernel(). sparc64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support
sparc64 uses address space identifiers to differentiate between kernel and user space, using ASI_P for kernel threads but ASI_AIUS for normal user space, with the option of changing between them. As nothing really changes the ASI any more, just hardcode ASI_AIUS everywhere. Kernel threads are not allowed to access __user pointers anyway. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> |

uaccess: generalize access_ok()
There are many different ways that access_ok() is defined across architectures, but in the end, they all just compare against the user_addr_max() value or they accept anything. Provide one definition that works for most architectures, checking against TASK_SIZE_MAX for user processes or skipping the check inside of uaccess_kernel() sections. For architectures without CONFIG_SET_FS(), this should be the fastest check, as it comes down to a single comparison of a pointer against a compile-time constant, while the architecture specific versions tend to do something more complex for historic reasons or get something wrong. Type checking for __user annotations is handled inconsistently across architectures, but this is easily simplified as well by using an inline function that takes a 'const void __user *' argument. A handful of callers need an extra __user annotation for this. Some architectures had trick to use 33-bit or 65-bit arithmetic on the addresses to calculate the overflow, however this simpler version uses fewer registers, which means it can produce better object code in the end despite needing a second (statically predicted) branch. uaccess: add generic __{get,put}_kernel_nofault
Nine architectures are still missing __{get,put}_kernel_nofault: alpha, ia64, microblaze, nds32, nios2, openrisc, sh, sparc32, xtensa. Add a generic version that lets everything use the normal copy_{from,to}_kernel_nofault() code based on these, removing the last use of get_fs()/set_fs() from architecture-independent code. sparc64: add __{get,put}_kernel_nofault()
sparc64 is one of the architectures that uses separate address spaces for kernel and user addresses, so __get_kernel_nofault() can not just call into the normal __get_user() without the access_ok() check. Instead duplicate __get_user() and __put_user() into their in-kernel versions, with minor changes for the calling conventions and leaving out the address space modifier on the assembler instruction. This could surely be written more elegantly, but duplicating it gets the job done. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> |

treewide: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible-array members
There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. linux/signal.h and asm/signal.h are currently excluded from the UAPI compile-test because of the errors like follows: HDRTEST usr/include/asm/signal.h In file included from <command-line>: ./usr/include/asm/signal.h:103:9: error: unknown type name ‘size_t’ 103 | size_t ss_size; | ^~~~~~ The errors can be fixed by replacing size_t with __kernel_size_t. Then, remove the no-header-test entries from user/include/Makefile. lib/xor: make xor prototypes more friendly to compiler vectorization
Modern compilers are perfectly capable of extracting parallelism from the XOR routines, provided that the prototypes reflect the nature of the input accurately, in particular, the fact that the input vectors are expected not to overlap. This is not documented explicitly, but is implied by the interchangeability of the various C routines, some of which use temporary variables while others don't: this means that these routines only behave identically for non-overlapping inputs. So let's decorate these input vectors with the __restrict modifier, which informs the compiler that there is no overlap. While at it, make the input-only vectors pointer-to-const as well. include: move find.h from asm_generic to linux
find_bit API and bitmap API are closely related, but inclusion paths are different - include/asm-generic and include/linux, correspondingly. Merge branch 'per_signal_struct_coredumps-for-v5.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull per signal_struct coredumps from Eric Biederman: "Current coredumps are mixed up with the exit code, the signal handling code, and the ptrace code making coredumps much more complicated than necessary and difficult to follow. This series of changes starts with ptrace_stop and cleans it up, making it easier to follow what is happening in ptrace_stop. Then cleans up the exec interactions with coredumps. Then cleans up the coredump interactions with exit. Finally the coredump interactions with the signal handling code is cleaned up. The first and last changes are bug fixes for minor bugs. I believe the fact that vfork followed by execve can kill the process the called vfork if exec fails is sufficient justification to change the userspace visible behavior. In previous discussions some of these changes were organized differently and individually appeared to make the code base worse. As currently written I believe they all stand on their own as cleanups and bug fixes. Which means that even if the worst should happen and the last change needs to be reverted for some unimaginable reason, the code base will still be improved. If the worst does not happen there are a more cleanups that can be made. Signals that generate coredumps can easily become eligible for short circuit delivery in complete_signal. The entire rendezvous for generating a coredump can move into get_signal. The function force_sig_info_to_task be written in a way that does not modify the signal handling state of the target task (because coredumps are eligible for short circuit delivery). Many of these future cleanups can be done another way but nothing so cleanly as if coredumps become per signal_struct" * 'per_signal_struct_coredumps-for-v5.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: coredump: Limit coredumps to a single thread group coredump: Don't perform any cleanups before dumping core exit: Factor coredump_exit_mm out of exit_mm exec: Check for a pending fatal signal instead of core_state ptrace: Remove the unnecessary arguments from arch_ptrace_stop signal: Remove the bogus sigkill_pending in ptrace_stop |

ptrace: Remove the unnecessary arguments from arch_ptrace_stop
Both arch_ptrace_stop_needed and arch_ptrace_stop are called with an exit_code and a siginfo structure. Neither argument is used by any of the implementations so just remove the unneeded arguments. The two arechitectures that implement arch_ptrace_stop are ia64 and sparc. Both architectures flush their register stacks before a ptrace_stack so that all of the register information can be accessed by debuggers. As the question of if a register stack needs to be flushed is independent of why ptrace is stopping not needing arguments make sense.
