2e7a858ba8 x86/boot: Add .text.* to setup.ld
GCC puts the main function into .text.startup when compiled with -Os (or
-O2). This results in arch/x86/boot/main.c having a .text.startup
section which is currently not included explicitly in the linker script
setup.ld in the same directory.

The BFD linker places this orphan section immediately after .text, so
this still works. However, LLD git, since [1], is choosing to place it
immediately after the .bstext section instead (this is the first code
section). This plays havoc with the section layout that setup.elf
requires to create the setup header, for eg on 64-bit:

    LD      arch/x86/boot/setup.elf
  ld.lld: error: section .text.startup file range overlaps with .header
  >>> .text.startup range is [0x200040, 0x2001FE]
  >>> .header range is [0x2001EF, 0x20026B]

  ld.lld: error: section .header file range overlaps with .bsdata
  >>> .header range is [0x2001EF, 0x20026B]
  >>> .bsdata range is [0x2001FF, 0x200398]

  ld.lld: error: section .bsdata file range overlaps with .entrytext
  >>> .bsdata range is [0x2001FF, 0x200398]
  >>> .entrytext range is [0x20026C, 0x2002D3]

  ld.lld: error: section .text.startup virtual address range overlaps
  with .header
  >>> .text.startup range is [0x40, 0x1FE]
  >>> .header range is [0x1EF, 0x26B]

  ld.lld: error: section .header virtual address range overlaps with
  .bsdata
  >>> .header range is [0x1EF, 0x26B]
  >>> .bsdata range is [0x1FF, 0x398]

  ld.lld: error: section .bsdata virtual address range overlaps with
  .entrytext
  >>> .bsdata range is [0x1FF, 0x398]
  >>> .entrytext range is [0x26C, 0x2D3]

  ld.lld: error: section .text.startup load address range overlaps with
  .header
  >>> .text.startup range is [0x40, 0x1FE]
  >>> .header range is [0x1EF, 0x26B]

  ld.lld: error: section .header load address range overlaps with
  .bsdata
  >>> .header range is [0x1EF, 0x26B]

  .entrytext
  >>> .bsdata range is [0x1FF, 0x398]
  >>> .entrytext range is [0x26C, 0x2D3]

Add .text.* to the .text output section to fix this, and also prevent
any future surprises if the compiler decides to create other such
sections.

6f8f0dc980 x86/vmlinux: Drop unneeded linker script discard of .eh_frame
Now that .eh_frame sections for the files in setup.elf and realmode.elf
are not generated anymore, the linker scripts don't need the special
output section name /DISCARD/ any more.

Remove the one in the main kernel linker script as well, since there are
no .eh_frame sections already, and fix up a comment referencing .eh_frame.

Update the comment in asm/dwarf2.h referring to .eh_frame so it continues
to make sense, as well as being more specific.

163159aad7 x86/boot: Discard .eh_frame sections
When using GCC as compiler and LLVM's lld as linker, linking setup.elf
fails:

   LD      arch/x86/boot/setup.elf
  ld.lld: error: init sections too big!

This happens because GCC generates .eh_frame sections for most of the
files in that directory, then ld.lld places the merged section before
__end_init, triggering an assert in the linker script.

Fix this by discarding the .eh_frame sections, as suggested by Boris.
The kernel proper linker script discards them too.

e6d7bc0bdf x86/build: Use the single-argument OUTPUT_FORMAT() linker script command
The various x86 linker scripts use the three-argument linker script
command variant OUTPUT_FORMAT(DEFAULT, BIG, LITTLE) which specifies
three object file formats when the -EL and -EB linker command line
options are used. When -EB is specified, OUTPUT_FORMAT issues the BIG
object file format, when -EL, LITTLE, respectively, and when neither is
specified, DEFAULT.

However, those -E[LB] options are not used by arch/x86/ so switch to the
simple OUTPUT_FORMAT(BFDNAME) macro variant.

No functional changes.

09c205afde x86, boot: Define the 2.12 bzImage boot protocol
Define the 2.12 bzImage boot protocol: add xloadflags and additional
fields to allow the command line, initramfs and struct boot_params to
live above the 4 GiB mark.

The xloadflags now communicates if this is a 64-bit kernel with the
legacy 64-bit entry point and which of the EFI handover entry points
are supported.

Avoid adding new read flags to loadflags because of claimed
bootloaders testing the whole byte for == 1 to determine bzImageness
at least until the issue can be researched further.

a5912f6b3e x86: Document linker script ASSERT() quirk
Older binutils breaks if ASSERT() is used without a sink
for the output.

For example 2.14.90.0.6 is known to be broken, the link
fails with:

  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
  ld:arch/x86/kernel/vmlinux.lds:678: parse error

Document this quirk in all three files that use it.

7a734e7dd9 x86, setup: "glove box" BIOS calls -- infrastructure
Impact: new interfaces (not yet used)

For all the platforms out there, there is an infinite number of buggy
BIOSes. This adds infrastructure to treat BIOS interrupts more like
toxic waste and "glove box" them -- we switch out the register set,
perform the BIOS interrupt, and then restore the previous state.

be721696ca x86, setup: move 32-bit code to .text32
Impact: cleanup

The setup code is mostly 16-bit code, but there is a small stub of
32-bit code at the end. Move the 32-bit code to a separate segment,
.text32, to avoid scrambling the disassembly.
