Since the shrinker-related code has been moved to a separate shrinker.c
file, it's time to add a MAINTAINERS entry for it.
Dave, Roman, Muchun and I have all worked on shrinker (development,
review, etc) in the past period of time, and all of us are willing to
continue working on shrinker in the future, so I'd like to add all of us
as maintainer/reviewer.

The kernel sefltest mm/hugepage-vmemmap fails on architectures which has
different page size other than 4K. In hugepage-vmemmap page size used is
4k so the pfn calculation will go wrong on systems which has different
page size .The length of MAP_HUGETLB memory must be hugepage aligned but
in hugepage-vmemmap map length is 2M so this will not get aligned if the
system has differnet hugepage size.
Added psize() to get the page size and default_huge_page_size() to
get the default hugepage size at run time, hugepage-vmemmap test pass
on powerpc with 64K page size and x86 with 4K page size.

set_memmap_mode() stores the kernel parameter memmap mode as an integer.
However, the get_memmap_mode() function utilizes param_get_bool() to fetch
the value as a boolean, leading to potential endianness issue. On
Big-endian architectures, the memmap_on_memory is consistently displayed
as 'N' regardless of its actual status.
To address this endianness problem, the solution involves obtaining the
mode as an integer. This adjustment ensures the proper display of the
memmap_on_memory parameter, presenting it as one of the following options:
Force, Y, or N.

syscore_shutdown() runs driver and module callbacks to get the system into
a state where it can be correctly shut down. In commit 6f389a8f1d ("PM
/ reboot: call syscore_shutdown() after disable_nonboot_cpus()")
syscore_shutdown() was removed from kernel_restart_prepare() and hence got
(incorrectly?) removed from the kexec flow. This was innocuous until
commit 6735150b69 ("KVM: Use syscore_ops instead of reboot_notifier to
hook restart/shutdown") changed the way that KVM registered its shutdown
callbacks, switching from reboot notifiers to syscore_ops.shutdown. As
syscore_shutdown() is missing from kexec, KVM's shutdown hook is not run
and virtualisation is left enabled on the boot CPU which results in triple
faults when switching to the new kernel on Intel x86 VT-x with VMXE
enabled.
Fix this by adding syscore_shutdown() to the kexec sequence. In terms of
where to add it, it is being added after migrating the kexec task to the
boot CPU, but before APs are shut down. It is not totally clear if this
is the best place: in commit 6f389a8f1d ("PM / reboot: call
syscore_shutdown() after disable_nonboot_cpus()") it is stated that
"syscore_ops operations should be carried with one CPU on-line and
interrupts disabled." APs are only offlined later in machine_shutdown(),
so this syscore_shutdown() is being run while APs are still online. This
seems to be the correct place as it matches where syscore_shutdown() is
run in the reboot and halt flows - they also run it before APs are shut
down. The assumption is that the commit message in commit 6f389a8f1d
("PM / reboot: call syscore_shutdown() after disable_nonboot_cpus()") is
no longer valid.
KVM has been discussed here as it is what broke loudly by not having
syscore_shutdown() in kexec, but this change impacts more than just KVM;
all drivers/modules which register a syscore_ops.shutdown callback will
now be invoked in the kexec flow. Looking at some of them like x86 MCE it
is probably more correct to also shut these down during kexec.
Maintainers of all drivers which use syscore_ops.shutdown are added on CC
for visibility. They are:
arch/powerpc/platforms/cell/spu_base.c .shutdown = spu_shutdown,
arch/x86/kernel/cpu/mce/core.c .shutdown = mce_syscore_shutdown,
arch/x86/kernel/i8259.c .shutdown = i8259A_shutdown,
drivers/irqchip/irq-i8259.c .shutdown = i8259A_shutdown,
drivers/irqchip/irq-sun6i-r.c .shutdown = sun6i_r_intc_shutdown,
drivers/leds/trigger/ledtrig-cpu.c .shutdown = ledtrig_cpu_syscore_shutdown,
drivers/power/reset/sc27xx-poweroff.c .shutdown = sc27xx_poweroff_shutdown,
kernel/irq/generic-chip.c .shutdown = irq_gc_shutdown,
virt/kvm/kvm_main.c .shutdown = kvm_shutdown,
This has been tested by doing a kexec on x86_64 and aarch64.

GNU's addr2line can have problems parsing a vmlinux built with LLVM,
particularly when LTO was used. In order to decode the traces correctly
this patch adds the ability to switch to LLVM's utilities readelf and
addr2line. The same approach is followed by Will in [1].
Before:
$ scripts/decode_stacktrace.sh vmlinux < kernel.log
[17716.240635] Call trace:
[17716.240646] skb_cow_data (??:?)
[17716.240654] esp6_input (ld-temp.o:?)
[17716.240666] xfrm_input (ld-temp.o:?)
[17716.240674] xfrm6_rcv (??:?)
[...]
After:
$ LLVM=1 scripts/decode_stacktrace.sh vmlinux < kernel.log
[17716.240635] Call trace:
[17716.240646] skb_cow_data (include/linux/skbuff.h:2172 net/core/skbuff.c:4503)
[17716.240654] esp6_input (net/ipv6/esp6.c:977)
[17716.240666] xfrm_input (net/xfrm/xfrm_input.c:659)
[17716.240674] xfrm6_rcv (net/ipv6/xfrm6_input.c:172)
[...]
Note that one could set CROSS_COMPILE=llvm- instead to hack around this
issue. However, doing so can break the decodecode routine as it will
force the selection of other LLVM utilities down the line e.g. llvm-as.

With commit 63b85ac56a ("kasan: stop leaking stack trace handles"),
KASAN zeroes out alloc meta when an object is freed. The zeroed out data
purposefully includes alloc and auxiliary stack traces but also
accidentally includes aux_lock.
As aux_lock is only initialized for each object slot during slab creation,
when the freed slot is reallocated, saving auxiliary stack traces for the
new object leads to lockdep reports when taking the zeroed out aux_lock.
Arguably, we could reinitialize aux_lock when the object is reallocated,
but a simpler solution is to avoid zeroing out aux_lock when an object
gets freed.

pahole, which generates BTF, relies on elfutils to process DWARF debug
info. Because kernel modules are relocatable files, elfutils needs to
resolve relocations when processing the DWARF .debug sections.
Hexagon is not supported in binutils or elfutils, so elfutils is unable to
process relocations in kernel modules, causing pahole to crash during BTF
generation.
Do not allow CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF to be selected for Hexagon until it is
supported in elfutils, so that there are no more cryptic build failures

This contains a bunch of cleanups and simplifications across the board,
as well as a number of small fixes.
Perhaps the most notable change here is the addition of an API that
allows PWMs to be used in atomic contexts, which is useful when time-
critical operations are involved, such as using a PWM to generate IR
signals.
Finally, I have decided to step down as PWM subsystem maintainer. Due to

This update includes the series of changes related to device attributes,
as well as slight code refactoring.
Some old devices are recognized to have legacy layout of configuration ROM.
They have an inconvenience that FireWire subsystem adds no attributes for
vendor information to corresponding devices. The main purpose of this
update is to rectify the inconvenience.
We have a slight concern about regression. The update changes the value of
modalias for the unit devices by populating its model field, which was
previously left as zero in the case. I've assessed the potential impact of
this change and anticipate it to have minimal concern for both the kernel
and user lands. The change is enough acceptable.

Pull clk updates from Stephen Boyd:
"Only a couple new SoCs have support added this time, primarily for
Qualcomm SM8650 based on the diffstat. Otherwise this is a collection
of non-critical fixes and cleanups to various clk drivers and their DT
bindings.
Nothing is changed in the core clk framework this time, although
there's a patch to fix a basic clk type initialization function. In
general, this pile looks to be on the smaller side.
New Drivers:
- Global, display, gpu, tcsr, and rpmh clocks on Qualcomm SM8650
- Mediatek MT7988 SoC clocks
Updates:
- Update Zynqmp driver for Versal NET platforms
- Add clk driver for Versal clocking wizard IP

- Free clk_node in i.MX SCU driver for resource with different owner
- Update the LVDS clocks to be compatible with i.MX SCU firmware 1.15

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"This contains two major new drivers:
- imagination is a first driver for Imagination Technologies devices,
it only covers very specific devices, but there is hope to grow it
- xe is a reboot of the i915 GPU (shares display) side using a more
upstream focused development model, and trying to maximise code
sharing. It's not enabled for any hw by default, and will hopefully
get switched on for Intel's Lunarlake.
This also drops a bunch of the old UMS ioctls. It's been dead long
enough.
amdgpu has a bunch of new color management code that is being used in
the Steam Deck.
amdgpu also has a new ACPI WBRF interaction to help avoid radio
interference.
Otherwise it's the usual lots of changes in lots of places.

It's not easy to let go responsibility for a subsystem that one cared
for for a long time, but Thierry realized that his heart isn't in the
pwm framework any more.
Thierry cared for the pwm subsystem (commit 200efedd87 ("pwm: Take
over maintainership of the PWM subsystem")) as a maintainer during
nearly 12 years. A big thanks for the time, effort and dedication spend
during that time.
Uwe takes over maintenance.

The kernel allocates a memory buffer and provides its location to the
hardware, which uses it to update the HFI table. This allocation occurs
during boot and remains constant throughout runtime.
When resuming from hibernation, the restore kernel allocates a second
memory buffer and reprograms the HFI hardware with the new location as
part of a normal boot. The location of the second memory buffer may
differ from the one allocated by the image kernel.
When the restore kernel transfers control to the image kernel, its HFI
buffer becomes invalid, potentially leading to memory corruption if the
hardware writes to it (the hardware continues to use the buffer from the
restore kernel).
It is also possible that the hardware "forgets" the address of the memory
buffer when resuming from "deep" suspend. Memory corruption may also occur
in such a scenario.
To prevent the described memory corruption, disable HFI when preparing to
suspend or hibernate. Enable it when resuming.
Add syscore callbacks to handle the package of the boot CPU (packages of
non-boot CPUs are handled via CPU offline). Syscore ops always run on the
boot CPU. Additionally, HFI only needs to be disabled during "deep" suspend
and hibernation. Syscore ops only run in these cases.

Commit 0952177f2a ("thermal/core/power_allocator: Update once
cooling devices when temp is low") adds an update flag to avoid
triggering a thermal event when there is no need, and the thermal
cdev is updated once when the temperature is low.
But when the trips are writable, and switch_on_temp is set to be a
higher value, the cooling device state may not be reset to 0,
because last_temperature is smaller than switch_on_temp.
For example:
First:
switch_on_temp=70 control_temp=85;
Then userspace change the trip_temp:
switch_on_temp=45 control_temp=55 cur_temp=54
Then userspace reset the trip_temp:
switch_on_temp=70 control_temp=85 cur_temp=57 last_temp=54
At this time, the cooling device state should be reset to 0.
However, because cur_temp(57) < switch_on_temp(70)
last_temp(54) < switch_on_temp(70) ----> update = false,
update is false, the cooling device state can not be reset.
Using the observation that tz->passive can also be regarded as the
temperature status, set the update flag to the tz->passive value.
When the temperature drops below switch_on for the first time, the
states of cooling devices can be reset once, and tz->passive is updated
to 0. In the next round, because tz->passive is 0, cdev->state will not
be updated.
By using the tz->passive value as the "update" flag, the issue above
can be solved, and the cooling devices can be updated only once when the
temperature is low.

The mitigation episodes are recorded. A mitigation episode happens
when the first trip point is crossed the way up and then the way
down. During this episode other trip points can be crossed also and
are accounted for this mitigation episode. The interesting information
is the average temperature at the trip point, the undershot and the
overshot. The standard deviation of the mitigated temperature will be
added later.
The thermal debugfs directory structure tries to stay consistent with
the sysfs one but in a very simplified way:

More information for a better understanding of the thermal behavior
will be added after. The idea is to give detailed statistics
information about the undershots and overshots, the temperature speed,
etc... As all the information in a single file is too much, the idea
would be to create a directory named with the mitigation timestamp
where all data could be added.
Please note this code is immune against trip ordering but not against
a trip temperature change while a mitigation is happening. However,
this situation should be extremely rare, perhaps not happening and we
might question ourselves if something should be done in the core
framework for other components first.

The thermal framework does not have any debug information except a
sysfs stat which is a bit controversial. This one allocates big chunks
of memory for every cooling devices with a high number of states and
could represent on some systems in production several megabytes of
memory for just a portion of it. As the sysfs is limited to a page
size, the output is not exploitable with large data array and gets
truncated.
The patch provides the same information than sysfs except the
transitions are dynamically allocated, thus they won't show more
events than the ones which actually occurred. There is no longer a
size limitation and it opens the field for more debugging information
where the debugfs is designed for, not sysfs.
The thermal debugfs directory structure tries to stay consistent with
the sysfs one but in a very simplified way:

From looking at the PCI IDs, every device supported by intelfb is
also supported by i915. Anyone still using intelfb should please
move on to i915, which does everything intelfb does but better.
Removing intelfb is motivated by the driver's excessive use of the
global screen_info state. The state belongs to architecture and
firmware code; device drivers should not attempt to access it. But
fixing intelfb would require a significant change in the driver's
probing logic. As intelfb has been obsolete for nearly 2 decades,
it is probably not worth the effort. Let's just remove it. Also

now ignore the firmware framebuffer.

Replace use of screen_info state with the correct interfaces from
the aperture helpers. The state is only for architecture and firmware
code. It is not guaranteed to contain valid data. Drivers are thus
not allowed to use it.
For removing conflicting firmware framebuffers, there are aperture
helpers. Hence replace screen_info with the correct functions that will
remove conflicting framebuffers for the hypervfb driver. For GEN1 PCI
devices, the driver reads the framebuffer base and size from the PCI
BAR, and uses the range for removing the firmware framebuffer. For
GEN2 VMBUS devices no range can be detected, so the driver clears all
firmware framebuffers.

When built-in, the sis driver tries to detect the current display mode
from the global screen_info state. That state is only for architecture
and firmware code. Drivers should not use it directly as it's not
guaranteed to contain valid information.
Remove the mode-detection code from sis. Drivers that want to detect a
pre-set mode on probe should read the hardware registers directly.

Currently the %d format specifier is being used for unsigned int values.
Fix this by using the correct %u format specifier. Cleans up cppcheck
warnings:
warning: %d in format string (no. 1) requires 'int' but the argument
type is 'unsigned int'. [invalidPrintfArgType_sint]
