Apart from preventing the mtdblk to run on top of ftl or ubiblk (which
may cause security issues and has no meaning anyway), there are a few
misc fixes.
* Raw NAND
Two meaningful changes this time. The conversion of the brcmnand driver
to the ->exec_op() API, this series brought additional changes to the
core in order to help controller drivers to handle themselves the WP pin
during destructive operations when relevant.
There is also a series bringing important fixes to the sequential read
feature.
As always, there is as well a whole bunch of miscellaneous W=1 fixes,
together with a few runtime fixes (double free, timeout value, OOB
layout, missing register initialization) and the usual load of remove
callbacks turned into void (which led to switch the txx9ndfmc driver to
use module_platform_driver()).
* SPI NOR
SPI NOR comes with die erase support for multi die flashes, with new
octal protocols (1-1-8 and 1-8-8) parsed from SFDP and with an updated
documentation about what the contributors shall consider when proposing
flash additions or updates.

Some PWM devices require sleeping, for example if the pwm device is
connected over I2C. However, many PWM devices could be used from atomic
context, e.g. memory mapped PWM. This is useful for, for example, the
pwm-ir-tx driver which requires precise timing. Sleeping causes havoc
with the generated IR signal.
Since not all PWM devices can support atomic context, we also add a
pwm_might_sleep() function to check if is not supported.

In order to introduce a pwm api which can be used from atomic context,
we will need two functions for applying pwm changes:
int pwm_apply_might_sleep(struct pwm *, struct pwm_state *);
int pwm_apply_atomic(struct pwm *, struct pwm_state *);
This commit just deals with renaming pwm_apply_state(), a following
commit will introduce the pwm_apply_atomic() function.

ioremap_uc() is only meaningful on old x86-32 systems with the PAT
extension, and on ia64 with its slightly unconventional ioremap()
behavior. So remove the ioremap_uc() definition in architecutures
other than x86 and ia64. These architectures all have asm-generic/io.h
included and will have the default ioremap_uc() definition which
returns NULL.
This changes the existing behaviour, while no need to worry about
any breakage because in the only callsite of ioremap_uc(), code
has been adjusted to eliminate the impact. Please see
atyfb_setup_generic() of drivers/video/fbdev/aty/atyfb_base.c.
If any new invocation of ioremap_uc() need be added, please consider
using ioremap() intead or adding a ARCH specific version if necessary.

Here is the "big" set of USB and Thunderbolt changes for 6.7-rc1.
Nothing really major in here, just lots of constant development for new
hardware. Included in here are:
- Thunderbolt (i.e. USB4) fixes for reported issues and support for
new hardware types and devices
- USB typec additions of new drivers and cleanups for some existing
ones
- xhci cleanups and expanded tracing support and some platform
specific updates
- USB "La Jolla Cove Adapter (LJCA)" support added, and the gpio, spi,
and i2c drivers for that type of device (all acked by the respective
subsystem maintainers.)
- lots of USB gadget driver updates and cleanups
- new USB dwc3 platforms supported, as well as other dwc3 fixes and
cleanups
- USB chipidea driver updates
- other smaller driver cleanups and additions, full details in the
shortlog
All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while with no
reported problems, EXCEPT for some merge conflicts that you will run
into in your tree. 2 of them are in device-tree files, which will be
trivial to resolve (accept both sides), and the last in the
drivers/gpio/gpio-ljca.c file, in the remove callback, resolution should
be pretty trivial (take the version in this branch), see here:
https://lore.kernel.org/all/20231016134159.11d8f849@canb.auug.org.au/
for details, or I can provide a resolved merge point if needed.

Merge tag 'gpio-updates-for-v6.7-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brgl/linux
Pull gpio updates from Bartosz Golaszewski:
"We don't have any new drivers. The loongson driver is getting extended
with support for new models. There's a big refactor of gpio-pca953x
and many small improvements to others.
The GPIO code in the kernel has acquired a lot of cruft over the years
as well as many abusers of the API across the kernel tree. This
release cycle we have started a major cleanup and improvement effort
that will most likely span several releases. We have started by
converting external users of struct gpio_chip to accessing the wrapper
around it - struct gpio_device. This is because the latter is
reference counted while the former is removed when the provider is
unbound. We also removed several instances of drivers accessing
private GPIOLIB structures and including the private header from
drivers/gpio/.
To that end you'll see several commits aimed at different subsystems
(acked by relevant maintainers) as well as two merges from the
x86/platform tree.
We'll then rework the locking in GPIOLIB which currently uses a big
spinlock for many different things and could use becoming more
fine-grained, especially as it doesn't even get the locking right.
We'll also use SRCU for protecting the gpio_chip pointer against
in-kernel hot-unplug crashes similar to what we saw triggered from
user-space and fixed with semaphores in gpiolib-cdev. The core GPIOLIB
is still vulnerable to these use-cases. I'm just mentioning the plans
here, this is not part of this PR.
You'll see some new instances of using __free(). We've added a
gpio_device_put cleanup helper similar to the put_device one
introduced by Peter Zijlstra and used it according to the preferred
pattern except where it didn't make sense.
GPIOLIB core:
- provide interfaces allowing users to retrieve, manage and query the
reference counted GPIO device instead of accessing the private
gpio_chip structure

Documentation/driver-api/80211/mac80211:109: ./include/net/mac80211.h:5170: WARNING: Duplicate C declaration, also defined at mac80211:1117.
Declaration is '.. c:function:: void ieee80211_tx_status (struct ieee80211_hw *hw, struct sk_buff *skb)'.
This is because there's a function named ieee80211_tx_status() and a struct named
ieee80211_tx_status. This has been discussed previously but no solution found:
https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220521114629.6ee9fc06@coco.lan/
There's also a bug open for three years with no solution in sight:
https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/pull/8313
So I guess we have no other solution than to a workaround this in the code,
for example to rename the function to ieee80211_tx_status_skb() to avoid the
name conflict. I got the idea for the name from ieee80211_tx_status_noskb() in
which the skb is not provided as an argument, instead with
ieee80211_tx_status_skb() the skb is provided.
Compile tested only.

When the hardware reduces the power to the minimum possible, the power
floor is notified via an interrupt.
This can happen when user space requests a power limit via powercap RAPL
interface, which forces the system to enter to the lowest power. This
power floor indication can be used as a hint to resort to other methods
of reducing power than via RAPL power limit.
Before power floor status can be read or the firmware can trigger
notifications regarding it, it needs to be configured via a mailbox
command. The actual power floor status is read via bit 39 of MMIO
offset 0x5B18 of the processor thermal PCI device.
To show the current power floor status and get notification
on a sysfs attribute, add 2 new attributes to
/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:00\:04.0/power_limits/
power_floor_enable : This attribute is present when power floor
notifications are supported. This attribute allows to enable/disable
power floor notifications.
power_floor_status : This attribute is present when power floor
notifications are supported. When enabled via power_floor_enable, this
attribute shows the current power floor status.
The power floor implementation provides interfaces which are called
from the sysfs callbacks to enable/disable and read power floor
status. It also provides two additional interfaces to check if the
current processor thermal device interrupt is for power floor status
and to send notifications to user space.

Prior to Meteor Lake processor generation, user space can pass workload
type request to the firmware. Then firmware can optimize power based on
the indicated workload type. User space also uses workload type requests
to implement its own heuristics.
The firmware in Meteor Lake processor generation is capable of predicting
workload type without software help.
To avoid duplicate processing, add a sysfs interface allowing user space
to obtain the workload hint from the firmware instead of trying to
predict the workload type by itself.
This workload hint is passed from the firmware via MMIO offset 0x5B18 of
the processor thermal PCI device. Before workload hints can be produced by
the firmware, it needs to be configured via a mailbox command. This
mailbox command turns ON the workload hint and it allows to program a
notification delay to control the rate of notifications.
The notification delay can be changed from user space vis sysfs.
Attribute group 'workload_hint' in sysfs is used for implementing the
workload hints interface between user space and the kernel.
It contains the following attributes:
workload_type_enable:
Enables/disables workload type hints from the firmware.
notification_delay_ms:
Notification delay in milliseconds.
workload_type_index:
The current workload type index predicted by the firmware (see
the documentation changes below for supported index values and
their meaning).

Pull media updates from Mauro Carvalho Chehab:
- new i2c drivers: ds90ub913, ds90ub953, ds90ub960, dw9719, ds90ub913
- new Intel IVSC MEI drivers
- some Mediatek platform drivers were moved to a common location
- Intel atomisp2 driver is now working with the main ov2680 driver. Due
to that, the atomisp2 ov2680 staging one was removed
- the bttv driver was finally converted to videobuf2 framework. This
was the last one upstream using videobuf version 1 core. We'll likely
remove the old videobuf framework on 6.7
- lots of improvements at atomisp driver: it now works with normal I2C
sensors. Several compile-mode dependecies to select between ISP2400
and ISP2401 are now solved in runtime
- a new ipu-bridge logic was added to work with IVSC MEI drivers
- venus driver gained better support for new VPU versions
- the v4l core async framework has gained lots of improvements and
cleanups
- lots of other cleanups, improvements and driver fixes

Here is the big set of tty and serial driver changes for 6.6-rc1.
Lots of cleanups in here this cycle, and some driver updates. Short
summary is:
- Jiri's continued work to make the tty code and apis be a bit more
sane with regards to modern kernel coding style and types
- cpm_uart driver updates
- n_gsm updates and fixes
- meson driver updates
- sc16is7xx driver updates
- 8250 driver updates for different hardware types
- qcom-geni driver fixes
- tegra serial driver change
- stm32 driver updates
- synclink_gt driver cleanups
- tty structure size reduction
All of these have been in linux-next this week with no reported issues.
The last bit of cleanups from Jiri and the tty structure size reduction
came in last week, a bit late but as they were just style changes and
size reductions, I figured they should get into this merge cycle so that
others can work on top of them with no merge conflicts.

It's often useful during test, debug, and development to issue path
votes from shell. Add a debugfs client for this purpose.
Example usage:
cd /sys/kernel/debug/interconnect/test-client/
# Configure node endpoints for the path from CPU to DDR on
# qcom/sm8550.
echo chm_apps > src_node
echo ebi > dst_node
# Get path between src_node and dst_node. This is only
# necessary after updating the node endpoints.
echo 1 > get
# Set desired BW to 1GBps avg and 2GBps peak.
echo 1000000 > avg_bw
echo 2000000 > peak_bw
# Vote for avg_bw and peak_bw on the latest path from "get".
# Voting for multiple paths is possible by repeating this
# process for different nodes endpoints.
echo 1 > commit
Allowing userspace to directly enable and set bus rates can be dangerous
So, following in the footsteps of the regmap [0] and clk [1] frameworks,
keep these userspace controls compile-time disabled without Kconfig
options to enable them. Enabling this will require code changes to
define INTERCONNECT_ALLOW_WRITE_DEBUGFS.

Use __tty_insert_flip_string_flags() for the slow path of
tty_insert_flip_char(). The former is generic enough, so there is no
reason to reimplement the injection once again.
So now we have a single function stuffing into tty buffers.

They both do the same except for flags. One mem-copies the flags from
the caller, the other mem-sets to one flag given by the caller. This can
be unified with a simple if in the unified function.

Since there's a lot of confusion around this, document both the rules
and the best practices around negotiating, allocating, importing, and
using buffers when crossing context/process/device/subsystem boundaries.
This ties up all of dma-buf, formats and modifiers, and their usage.

The CSI2 specification specifies a standard method to access camera sensor
registers called "Camera Control Interface (CCI)".
This uses either 8 or 16 bit (big-endian wire order) register addresses
and supports 8, 16, 24 or 32 bit (big-endian wire order) register widths.
Currently a lot of Linux camera sensor drivers all have their own custom
helpers for this, often copy and pasted from other drivers.
Add a set of generic helpers for this so that all sensor drivers can
switch to a single common implementation.
These helpers take an extra optional "int *err" function parameter,
this can be used to chain a bunch of register accesses together with
only a single error check at the end, rather than needing to error
check each individual register access. The first failing call will
set the contents of err to a non 0 value and all other calls will
then become no-ops.

Rename v4l2_async_subdev as v4l2_async_connection, in order to
differentiate between the sub-devices and their connections: one
sub-device can have many connections but the V4L2 async framework has so
far allowed just a single one. Connections in this context will later
translate into either MC ancillary or data links.
This patch prepares changing that relation by changing existing users of
v4l2_async_subdev to switch to v4l2_async_connection. Async sub-devices
themselves will not be needed anymore
Additionally, __v4l2_async_nf_add_subdev() has been renamed
__v4l2_async_nf_add_connection().

----
- Rework the sendpage & splice implementations. Instead of feeding
data into sockets page by page extend sendmsg handlers to support
taking a reference on the data, controlled by a new flag called
MSG_SPLICE_PAGES. Rework the handling of unexpected-end-of-file
to invoke an additional callback instead of trying to predict what
the right combination of MORE/NOTLAST flags is.
Remove the MSG_SENDPAGE_NOTLAST flag completely.
- Implement SCM_PIDFD, a new type of CMSG type analogous to
SCM_CREDENTIALS, but it contains pidfd instead of plain pid.
- Enable socket busy polling with CONFIG_RT.
- Improve reliability and efficiency of reporting for ref_tracker.
- Auto-generate a user space C library for various Netlink families.
Protocols
---------
- Allow TCP to shrink the advertised window when necessary, prevent
sk_rcvbuf auto-tuning from growing the window all the way up to
tcp_rmem[2].
- Use per-VMA locking for "page-flipping" TCP receive zerocopy.
- Prepare TCP for device-to-device data transfers, by making sure
that payloads are always attached to skbs as page frags.
- Make the backoff time for the first N TCP SYN retransmissions
linear. Exponential backoff is unnecessarily conservative.
- Create a new MPTCP getsockopt to retrieve all info (MPTCP_FULL_INFO).
- Avoid waking up applications using TLS sockets until we have
a full record.
- Allow using kernel memory for protocol ioctl callbacks, paving
the way to issuing ioctls over io_uring.
- Add nolocalbypass option to VxLAN, forcing packets to be fully
encapsulated even if they are destined for a local IP address.
- Make TCPv4 use consistent hash in TIME_WAIT and SYN_RECV. Ensure
in-kernel ECMP implementation (e.g. Open vSwitch) select the same
link for all packets. Support L4 symmetric hashing in Open vSwitch.
- PPPoE: make number of hash bits configurable.
- Allow DNS to be overwritten by DHCPACK in the in-kernel DHCP client
(ipconfig).
- Add layer 2 miss indication and filtering, allowing higher layers
(e.g. ACL filters) to make forwarding decisions based on whether
packet matched forwarding state in lower devices (bridge).
- Support matching on Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) packets.
- Hide the "link becomes ready" IPv6 messages by demoting their
printk level to debug.
- HSR: don't enable promiscuous mode if device offloads the proto.
- Support active scanning in IEEE 802.15.4.
- Continue work on Multi-Link Operation for WiFi 7.
BPF
---
- Add precision propagation for subprogs and callbacks. This allows
maintaining verification efficiency when subprograms are used,
or in fact passing the verifier at all for complex programs,
especially those using open-coded iterators.
- Improve BPF's {g,s}setsockopt() length handling. Previously BPF
assumed the length is always equal to the amount of written data.
But some protos allow passing a NULL buffer to discover what
the output buffer *should* be, without writing anything.
- Accept dynptr memory as memory arguments passed to helpers.
- Add routing table ID to bpf_fib_lookup BPF helper.
- Support O_PATH FDs in BPF_OBJ_PIN and BPF_OBJ_GET commands.
- Drop bpf_capable() check in BPF_MAP_FREEZE command (used to mark
maps as read-only).
- Show target_{obj,btf}_id in tracing link fdinfo.
- Addition of several new kfuncs (most of the names are self-explanatory):
- Add a set of new dynptr kfuncs: bpf_dynptr_adjust(),
bpf_dynptr_is_null(), bpf_dynptr_is_rdonly(), bpf_dynptr_size()
and bpf_dynptr_clone().
- bpf_task_under_cgroup()
- bpf_sock_destroy() - force closing sockets
- bpf_cpumask_first_and(), rework bpf_cpumask_any*() kfuncs
Netfilter
---------
- Relax set/map validation checks in nf_tables. Allow checking
presence of an entry in a map without using the value.
- Increase ip_vs_conn_tab_bits range for 64BIT builds.
- Allow updating size of a set.
- Improve NAT tuple selection when connection is closing.
Driver API
----------
- Integrate netdev with LED subsystem, to allow configuring HW
"offloaded" blinking of LEDs based on link state and activity
(i.e. packets coming in and out).
- Support configuring rate selection pins of SFP modules.
- Factor Clause 73 auto-negotiation code out of the drivers, provide
common helper routines.
- Add more fool-proof helpers for managing lifetime of MDIO devices
associated with the PCS layer.
- Allow drivers to report advanced statistics related to Time Aware
scheduler offload (taprio).
- Allow opting out of VF statistics in link dump, to allow more VFs
to fit into the message.
- Split devlink instance and devlink port operations.

- Introduce cmpxchg128() -- aka. the demise of cmpxchg_double().

of a 6-parameter horror that forced u128 - u64/u64-halves layout
details on the interface and exposed users to complexity,
fragility & bugs, use a natural 3-parameter interface with u128 types.
- Restructure the generated atomic headers, and add

and come with documentation.
- Implement lock_set_cmp_fn() on lockdep, for defining an ordering

one use of lockdep_set_novalidate_class() in the bcache code.
- Fix raw_cpu_generic_try_cmpxchg() bug due to an unintended

Add the generated atomic headers to driver-api/basics.rst in order to
provide documentation for the Linux kernel's atomic operations.
At the same time, dtop the x86 atomic header, which provides kerneldoc
comments for some arch_atomic*_*() operations. The arch_atomic*_*()
operations are now purely an implenentation detail of the
raw_atomic*_*() ops, and outside of implementing the atomics, code
should use the raw_atomic*_*() forms.
