It's been four years since this was added. In the interim, skein has
not seen any mainstream adoption. Same with the threefish block cipher
upon which it's based.
In the discussion over which hash algorithm will replace SHA1 in git,
it's not one of the contenders.
There's absolutely no reason to think that there is anything wrong with
Skein or Threefish. The only reason for this removal is a lack of
adoption.
If a real user comes forward, I'd be happy to assist with integrating
this code into mainline.

The ipx code moved into the staging tree back in November 2017 and no
one has complained or even noticed it was gone. Because of that, let's
just delete it.
Note, the ipx header files are not removed here, that will come later
through the networking tree, as that takes a bit more work to unwind.

The Lustre filesystem has been in the kernel tree for over 5 years now.
While it has been an endless source of enjoyment for new kernel
developers learning how to do basic codingstyle cleanups, as well as an
semi-entertaining source of bewilderment from the vfs developers any
time they have looked into the codebase to try to figure out how to port
their latest api changes to this filesystem, it has not really moved
forward into the "this is in shape to get out of staging" despite many
half-completed attempts.
And getting code out of staging is the main goal of that portion of the
kernel tree. Code should not stagnate and it feels like having this
code in staging is only causing the development cycle of the filesystem
to take longer than it should. There is a whole separate out-of-tree
copy of this codebase where the developers work on it, and then random
changes are thrown over the wall at staging at some later point in time.
This dual-tree development model has never worked, and the state of this
codebase is proof of that.
So, let's just delete the whole mess. Now the lustre developers can go
off and work in their out-of-tree codebase and not have to worry about
providing valid changelog entries and breaking their patches up into
logical pieces. They can take the time they have spend doing those
types of housekeeping chores and get the codebase into a much better
shape, and it can be submitted for inclusion into the real part of the
kernel tree when ready.

Added range-check on pdev->id before assigning ot
host->id
of_dma_configure() sets a default ->dma_mask of
DMA_BIT_MASK(32), claiming devices can DMA from
the full 32bit address space.
The mtk-mmc driver does not support access to
highmem pages, so it is really limited to the
bottom 512M (actually 448M due to 64M of IO space).
Setting ->dma_mask to NULL causes mmc_setup_queue()
to fall-back to using BLK_BOUNCE_HIGH to tell the
block layer to use a bounce-buffer for any highmem
pages requiring IO.

The Netware Core Protocol is a file system that talks to
Netware clients over IPX. Since IPX has been dead for many years
move the file system into staging for eventual interment.

It's time to get rid of IRDA. It's long been broken, and no one seems

The RTL8822BE, an 802.11ac wireless network card, is now appearing in
new computers. Its driver is being placed in staging to reduce the time
that users of this new card will have access to in-kernel drivers.
This commit enables building of the new driver. For this version, all
routines are built into a single module r8822be. When this driver is
moved to the wireless tree, halmac, phydm, and rtl8822be will become
new modules.

This commit adds the vboxvideo drm/kms driver for the virtual graphics
card used in Virtual Box virtual machines to drivers/staging.
Why drivers/staging? This driver is already being patched into the kernel
by several distros, thus it is good to get this driver upstream soon, so
that work on the driver can be easily shared.
At the same time we want to take our time to get this driver properly
cleaned up (mainly converted to the new atomic modesetting APIs) before
submitting it as a normal driver under drivers/gpu/drm, putting this
driver in staging for now allows both.
Note this driver has already been significantly cleaned up, when I started
working on this the files under /usr/src/vboxguest/vboxvideo as installed
by Virtual Box 5.1.18 Guest Additions had a total linecount of 52681
lines. The version in this commit has 4874 lines.

Here is the big staging tree update for 4.12-rc1. And it's a big one,
adding about 350k new lines of crap^Wcode, mostly all in a big dump of
media drivers from Intel. But there's other new drivers in here as
well, yet-another-wifi driver, new IIO drivers, and a new crypto
accelerator. We also deleted a bunch of stuff, mostly in patch
cleanups, but also the Android ION code has shrunk a lot, and the
Android low memory killer driver was finally deleted, much to the
celebration of the -mm developers.
All of these have been in linux-next with a few build issues that will
show up when you merge to your tree, I'll follow up with fixes for those
after this gets merged.

This driver implements the USB Type-C Power Delivery state machine
for both source and sink ports. Alternate mode support is not
fully implemented.
The driver attaches to the USB Type-C class code implemented in
the following patches.

This driver only implements the state machine. Lower level drivers are

- Sending and receiving PD messages
The driver provides both a functional API as well as callbacks for
lower level drivers.

The rtl8723bs is found on quite a few systems used by Linux users,
such as on Atom systems (Intel Computestick and various other
Atom based devices) and on many (budget) ARM boards such as
the CHIP.
The plan moving forward with this is for the new clean,
written from scratch, rtl8xxxu driver to eventually gain
support for sdio devices. But there is no clear timeline
for that, so lets add this driver included in staging for now.

Initial cleanup of bcm2835-audio driver for the
bcm2535(Raspberry PI)
Driver provides HDMI audio through ALSA and is built
on top of the vc04_services driver.
Original version of the driver is available at:

Driver compiles without any build errors or warnings.
Tested on a RPI 3 running in ARM64 mode with the
vlc player and alsautils.

A "real" driver for this hardware has now landed in the networking tree,
so remove this old staging driver so that we don't have multiple drivers
for the same hardware, and so people don't waste their time trying to
clean up this old code.

This is one half of a two-part patch, the other half of which is to
the vchiq_lib user library. With these patches, calls to
vchiq_close_service and vchiq_remove_service won't return until any
associated callbacks have been delivered to the callback thread.
VCHIQ: Add per-service tracing
The new service option VCHIQ_SERVICE_OPTION_TRACE is a boolean that
toggles tracing for the specified service.
This commit also introduces vchi_service_set_option and the associated
option VCHI_SERVICE_OPTION_TRACE.

Closing a connection that isn't fully open requires care, since one
side does not know the other side's port number. Code was present to
handle the case where a CLOSE is sent immediately after an OPEN, i.e.
before the OPENACK has been received, but this was incorrectly being
used when an OPEN from a client using port 0 was rejected.
(In the observed failure, the host was attempting to use the VCSM
service, which isn't present in the 'cutdown' firmware. The failure
was intermittent because sometimes the keepalive service would
grab port 0.)
This case can be distinguished because the client's remoteport will
still be VCHIQ_PORT_FREE, and the srvstate will be OPENING. Either
condition is sufficient to differentiate it from the special case
described above.

1) Make fragment size vary with cache line size
Without this patch, non-cache-line-aligned transfers may corrupt
(or be corrupted by) adjacent data structures.
Both ARM and VC need to be updated to enable this feature. This is
ensured by having the loader apply a new DT parameter -
cache-line-size. The existence of this parameter guarantees that the
kernel is capable, and the parameter will only be modified from the
safe default if the loader is capable.

..the fix is to ensure that we have actually initialized the queue before we attempt
to push any items onto it. This occurs if we do an open() followed by a close() without
any activity in between.

This merges the greybus branch into staging-testing. It contains the
drivers/staging/greybus/ subsystem and related drivers and has passed
the 0-day bot tests so no builds should break.

This adds a proper Kconfig file for drivers/staging/greybus and fixes up

changes were made to make the driver suitable for staging:
* updated Kconfig help text and dependencies
* added TODO
* removed two __DATE__ and __TIME__ printouts to allow reproducible builds
* added to staging main Kconfig + Makefile
Tested on a Renesas Salvator-X board with a Spectec SDW-823 card. I
could connect to a WPA-protected network.

out these machines are still out there, and the original patch broke
them. So revert it, adding back the driver, so people's machines still
work properly.

The ST Ux500 platform has been converted to use the new driver

The icn, act2000 and pcbit drivers are all for very old hardware,
and it is highly unlikely that anyone is actually still using them
on modern kernels, if at all.
All three drivers apparently are for hardware that predates PCI
being the common connector, as they are ISA-only and active
PCI ISDN cards were widely available in the 1990s.
Looking through the git logs, it I cannot find any indication of a
patch to any of these drivers that has been tested on real hardware,
only cleanups or global API changes.

Remove support for dgap driver since there is no way to get
the firmware files required by the dgap driver into the linux-
firmware tree. The dgap driver is rendered useless without this
firmware and hence this product is considered obsolete by DIGI.

"This is a fairly sizeable set of changes. I've put them through a
decent amount of testing prior to sending the pull request due to
that.
There are still a few fixups that I know are coming, but I wanted to
go ahead and get the big, sizable chunk into your hands sooner rather
than waiting for those last few fixups.
Of note is the fact that this creates what is intended to be a
temporary area in the drivers/staging tree specifically for some
cleanups and additions that are coming for the RDMA stack. We
deprecated two drivers (ipath and amso1100) and are waiting to hear
back if we can deprecate another one (ehca). We also put Intel's new
hfi1 driver into this area because it needs to be refactored and a
transfer library created out of the factored out code, and then it and
the qib driver and the soft-roce driver should all be modified to use
that library.
I expect drivers/staging/rdma to be around for three or four kernel

Create the rdma directory in the staging area for use as we deprecate
some older drivers and as we bring in some new drivers that are in
need of work. Update the MAINTAINERS file so that updates to these
files go to linux-rdma@vger.kernel.org. Expected lifespan of this
directory is three releases for any deprecated drivers moved here
and an unknown, but theoretically bounded amount of time for the new
drivers as a new core RDMA transfer library needs to be written and
the drivers modified to use it in order for them to move out of this
directory.

Ozwpan is completely unmaintained and potentially a security problem. As
this is a staging driver, it should be removed, since it has been
abandoned.

This patch adds the core module of the MOST driver to the kernel's driver
staging area. This module is part of the MOST driver and handles the
configuration interface in sysfs, the buffer management and the data
routing.
MOST defines the protocol, hardware and software layers necessary to allow
for the efficient and low-cost transport of control, real-time and packet
data using a single medium (physical layer). Media currently in use are
fiber optics, unshielded twisted pair cables (UTP) and coax cables. MOST
also supports various speed grades up to 150 Mbps.

Cars continue to evolve into sophisticated consumer electronics platforms,
increasing the demand for reliable and simple solutions to support audio,
video and data communications. MOST can be used to connect multiple
consumer devices via optical or electrical physical layers directly to one
another or in a network configuration. As a synchronous network, MOST
provides excellent Quality of Service and seamless connectivity for
audio/video streaming. Therefore, the driver perfectly fits to the mission
of Automotive Grade Linux to create open source software solutions for
automotive applications.
The driver consists basically of three layers. The hardware layer, the
core layer and the application layer. The core layer consists of the core
module only. This module handles the communication flow through all three
layers, the configuration of the driver, the configuration interface
representation in sysfs, and the buffer management.
For each of the other two layers a selection of modules is provided. These
modules can arbitrarily be combined to meet the needs of the desired
system architecture. A module of the hardware layer is referred to as an
HDM (hardware dependent module). Each module of this layer handles exactly
one of the peripheral interfaces of a network interface controller (e.g.
USB, MediaLB, I2C). A module of the application layer is referred to as an
AIM (application interfacing module). The modules of this layer give access
to MOST via one the following ways: character devices, ALSA, Networking or
V4L2.
To physically access MOST, an Intelligent Network Interface Controller

This driver is for the wilc1000 which is a single chip IEEE 802.11
b/g/n device.
The driver works together with cfg80211, which is the kernel side of
configuration management for wireless devices because the wilc1000
chipset is fullmac where the MLME is managed in hardware.
The driver worked from kernel version 2.6.38 and being now ported
to several others since then.
A TODO file is included as well in this commit.
