From kernel perspective, allow entrance in nf_hook_slow().
Stuff which uses nf_register_hook/nf_register_hooks, but otherwise not netns-ready:
DECnet netfilter
ipt_CLUSTERIP
nf_nat_standalone.c together with XFRM (?)
IPVS
several individual match modules (like hashlimit)
ctnetlink
NOTRACK
all sorts of queueing and reporting to userspace
L3 and L4 protocol sysctls, bridge sysctls
probably something else
Anyway critical mass has been achieved, there is no reason to hide netfilter any longer.

Conntrack (struct nf_conn) gets pointer to netns: ->ct_net -- netns in which
it was created. It comes from netdevice.
->ct_net is write-once field.
Every conntrack in system has ->ct_net initialized, no exceptions.
->ct_net doesn't pin netns: conntracks are recycled after timeouts and
pinning background traffic will prevent netns from even starting shutdown
sequence.
Right now every conntrack is created in init_net.

When a match or target is looked up using xt_find_{match,target},
Xtables will also search the NFPROTO_UNSPEC module list. This allows
for protocol-independent extensions (like xt_time) to be reused from
other components (e.g. arptables, ebtables).
Extensions that take different codepaths depending on match->family

If we create a conntrack that has NAT handlings and a helper, the helper
is assigned twice. This happens because nf_nat_setup_info() - via
nf_conntrack_alter_reply() - sets the helper before ctnetlink, which
indeed does not check if the conntrack already has a helper as it thinks that
it is a brand new conntrack.
The fix moves the helper assignation before the set of the status flags.
This avoids a bogus assertion in __nf_ct_ext_add (if netfilter assertions are
enabled) which checks that the conntrack must not be confirmed.

Initially netfilter has had 64bit counters for conntrack-based accounting, but
it was changed in 2.6.14 to save memory. Unfortunately in-kernel 64bit counters are
still required, for example for "connbytes" extension. However, 64bit counters
waste a lot of memory and it was not possible to enable/disable it runtime.
This patch:
- reimplements accounting with respect to the extension infrastructure,
- makes one global version of seq_print_acct() instead of two seq_print_counters(),
- makes it possible to enable it at boot time (for CONFIG_SYSCTL/CONFIG_SYSFS=n),
- makes it possible to enable/disable it at runtime by sysctl or sysfs,
- extends counters from 32bit to 64bit,
- renames ip_conntrack_counter -> nf_conn_counter,
- enables accounting code unconditionally (no longer depends on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT),
- set initial accounting enable state based on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT
- removes buggy IPCT_COUNTER_FILLING event handling.
If accounting is enabled newly created connections get additional acct extend.
Old connections are not changed as it is not possible to add a ct_extend area
to confirmed conntrack. Accounting is performed for all connections with
acct extend regardless of a current state of "net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_acct".

When a conntrack entry is destroyed in process context and destruction
is interrupted by packet processing and the packet is an attempt to
reopen a closed connection, TCP conntrack tries to kill the old entry
itself and returns NF_REPEAT to pass the packet through the hook
again. This may lead to an endless loop: TCP conntrack repeatedly
finds the old entry, but can not kill it itself since destruction
is already in progress, but destruction in process context can not
complete since TCP conntrack is keeping the CPU busy.
Drop the packet in TCP conntrack if we can't kill the connection
ourselves to avoid this.

Lost connections was reported by Thomas Bätzler (running 2.6.25 kernel) on
the netfilter mailing list (see the thread "Weird nat/conntrack Problem
with PASV FTP upload"). He provided tcpdump recordings which helped to
find a long lingering bug in conntrack.
In TCP connection tracking, checking the lower bound of valid ACK could
lead to mark valid packets as INVALID because:
- We have got a "higher or equal" inequality, but the test checked
the "higher" condition only; fixed.
- If the packet contains a SACK option, it could occur that the ACK
value was before the left edge of our (S)ACK "window": if a previous
packet from the other party intersected the right edge of the window
of the receiver, we could move forward the window parameters beyond
accepting a valid ack. Therefore in this patch we check the rightmost
SACK edge instead of the ACK value in the lower bound of valid (S)ACK
test.

One way to fix this would be to split helper cleanup from the unregistration
function and invoke it for the H.245 helper, but since ctnetlink needs to be
able to find the helper for synchonization purposes, a better fix is to
register it normally and make sure its not assigned to connections during
helper lookup. The missing l3num initialization is enough for this, this
patch changes it to use AF_UNSPEC to make it more explicit though.

The message "nf_log_packet: can't log since no backend logging module loaded
in! Please either load one, or disable logging explicitly" was displayed for
each logged packet when no userspace application is listening to nflog events.
The message seems to warn for a problem with a kernel module missing but as
said before this is not the case. I thus propose to suppress the message (I
don't see any reason to flood the log because a user application has crashed.)

- No need to perform data_len = 0 in the switch command, since data_len
is initialized to 0 in the beginning of the ipq_build_packet_message()
method.
- {ip,ip6}_queue: We can reach nlmsg_failure only from one place; skb is
sure to be NULL when getting there; since skb is NULL, there is no need
to check this fact and call kfree_skb().

When a conntrack is destroyed, the connection status does not get
exported to netlink. I don't see a reason for not doing so. This patch

Currently the last packet of a connection isn't accounted when its causing
abnormal termination.
Introduces nf_ct_kill_acct() which increments the accounting counters on
conntrack kill. The new function was necessary, because there are calls
to nf_ct_kill() which don't need accounting:
nf_conntrack_proto_tcp.c line ~847:
Kills ct and returns NF_REPEAT. We don't want to count twice.
nf_conntrack_proto_tcp.c line ~880:
Kills ct and returns NF_DROP. I think we don't want to count dropped
packets.
nf_conntrack_netlink.c line ~824:
As far as I can see ctnetlink_del_conntrack() is used to destroy a
conntrack on behalf of the user. There is an sk_buff, but I don't think
this is an actual packet. Incrementing counters here is therefore not
desired.

The following patch implements a new "security" table for iptables, so
that MAC (SELinux etc.) networking rules can be managed separately to
standard DAC rules.
This is to help with distro integration of the new secmark-based
network controls, per various previous discussions.
The need for a separate table arises from the fact that existing tools
and usage of iptables will likely clash with centralized MAC policy
management.
The SECMARK and CONNSECMARK targets will still be valid in the mangle
table to prevent breakage of existing users.

This patch groups ctnetlink errors into three logical sets:
* Malformed messages: if ctnetlink receives a message without some mandatory
attribute, then it returns EINVAL.
* Unsupported operations: if userspace tries to perform an unsupported
operation, then it returns EOPNOTSUPP.
* Unchangeable: if userspace tries to change some attribute of the
conntrack object that can only be set once, then it returns EBUSY.
This patch reduces the number of -EINVAL from 23 to 14 and it results in
5 -EBUSY and 6 -EOPNOTSUPP.

In xt_connlimit match module, the counter of an IP is decreased when
the TCP packet is go through the chain with ip_conntrack state TW.
Well, it's very natural that the server and client close the socket
with FIN packet. But when the client/server close the socket with RST
packet(using so_linger), the counter for this connection still exsit.

Conntrack ID is not put (anymore ?) in event messages. This causes
current ulogd2 code to fail because it uses the ID to build a hash in
userspace. This hash is used to be able to output the starting time of
a connection.
Conntrack ID can be used in userspace application to maintain an easy
match between kernel connections list and userspace one. It may worth
to add it if there is no performance related issue.

Some Inovaphone PBXs exhibit very stange behaviour: when dialing for
example "123", the device sends INVITE requests for "1", "12" and
"123" back to back. The first requests will elicit error responses
from the receiver, causing the SIP helper to flush the RTP
expectations even though we might still see a positive response.
Note the sequence number of the last INVITE request that contained a
media description and only flush the expectations when receiving a
negative response for that sequence number.

Looking at the code, I ended up in nfq_mangle() function (called by
nfqnl_recv_verdict()) which performs a call to skb_copy_expand() due to
the increased size of data passed to the function. AFAICT, it should ask
for 'diff' instead of 'diff - skb_tailroom(e->skb)'. Because the
resulting sk_buff has not enough space to support the skb_put(skb, diff)
call a few lines later, this results in the call to skb_over_panic().
The patch below asks for allocation of a copy with enough space for
mangled packet and the same amount of headroom as old sk_buff. While
looking at how the regression appeared (e2b58a67), I noticed the same
pattern in ipq_mangle_ipv6() and ipq_mangle_ipv4(). The patch corrects
those locations too.
Tested with bigger reinjected IPv6 packets (nfqnl_mangle() path), things
are ok (2.6.25 and today's net-2.6 git tree).

Optimize call routing between NATed endpoints: when an external
registrar sends a media description that contains an existing RTP
expectation from a different SNATed connection, the gatekeeper
is trying to route the call directly between the two endpoints.
We assume both endpoints can reach each other directly and
"un-NAT" the addresses, which makes the media stream go between
the two endpoints directly.

times (in the session description and/or once per media description),

SDP mangling so the function setting up expectations only updates the
media port, update connection addresses from media descriptions while
parsing them and at the end update the session description when the

This is useful for the SIP helper and signalling expectations.
We don't want to create a full-blown expectation with a wildcard

final port anyways. With inactive expectations we can register

Commit ce7663d84:
[NETFILTER]: nfnetlink_queue: don't unregister handler of other subsystem
changed nf_unregister_queue_handler to return an error when attempting to
unregister a queue handler that is not identical to the one passed in.
This is correct in case we really do have a different queue handler already
registered, but some existing userspace code always does an unbind before
bind and aborts if that fails, so try to be nice and return success in
that case.

Similar to the nfnetlink_log problem, nfnetlink_queue incorrectly
returns -EPERM when binding or unbinding to an address family and
queueing instance 0 exists and is owned by a different process. Unlike
nfnetlink_log it previously completes the operation, but it is still
incorrect.

When binding or unbinding to an address family, the res_id is usually set
to zero. When logging instance 0 already exists and is owned by a different
process, this makes nfunl_recv_config return -EPERM without performing
the bind operation.
Since no operation on the foreign logging instance itself was requested,
this is incorrect. Move bind/unbind commands before the queue instance
permissions checks.
Also remove an incorrect comment.

xt_time_match() in net/netfilter/xt_time.c in kernel 2.6.24 never
matches on Sundays. On my host I have a rule like
iptables -A OUTPUT -m time --weekdays Sun -j REJECT
and it never matches. The problem is in localtime_2(), which uses
r->weekday = (4 + r->dse) % 7;
to map the epoch day onto a weekday in {0,...,6}. In particular this
gives 0 for Sundays. But 0 has to be wrong; a weekday of 0 can never
match. xt_time_match() has
if (!(info->weekdays_match & (1 << current_time.weekday)))
return false;
and when current_time.weekday = 0, the result of the & is always
zero, even when info->weekdays_match = XT_TIME_ALL_WEEKDAYS = 0xFE.

Size of the netlink skb was wrongly computed because the formula was using
NLMSG_ALIGN instead of NLMSG_SPACE. NLMSG_ALIGN does not add the room for
netlink header as NLMSG_SPACE does. This was causing a failure of message
building in some cases.

is an integer were invalid and the corresponding packets were dropped.

There are many small but still wrong things with /proc/net/*_tables_*
so I decided to do overhaul simultaneously making it more suitable for
per-netns /proc/net/*_tables_* implementation.
Fix
a) xt_get_idx() duplicating now standard seq_list_start/seq_list_next
iterators
b) tables/matches/targets list was chosen again and again on every ->next
c) multiple useless "af >= NPROTO" checks -- we simple don't supply invalid
AFs there and registration function should BUG_ON instead.
Regardless, the one in ->next() is the most useless -- ->next doesn't
run at all if ->start fails.
d) Don't use mutex_lock_interruptible() -- it can fail and ->stop is
executed even if ->start failed, so unlock without lock is possible.
As side effect, streamline code by splitting xt_tgt_ops into xt_target_ops,
xt_matches_ops, xt_tables_ops.
xt_tables_ops hooks will be changed by per-netns code. Code of
xt_matches_ops, xt_target_ops is identical except the list chosen for
iterating, but I think consolidating code for two files not worth it
given "<< 16" hacks needed for it.

Introduces the xt_hashlimit match revision 1. It adds support for
kernel-level inversion and grouping source and/or destination IP
addresses, allowing to limit on a per-subnet basis. While this would
technically obsolete xt_limit, xt_hashlimit is a more expensive due
to the hashbucketing.
Kernel-level inversion: Previously you had to do user-level inversion:
iptables -N foo
iptables -A foo -m hashlimit --hashlimit(-upto) 5/s -j RETURN
iptables -A foo -j DROP
iptables -A INPUT -j foo
now it is simpler:
iptables -A INPUT -m hashlimit --hashlimit-over 5/s -j DROP

runtime performance, but allows to reduce the use of nf_conntrack_lock
for /proc and nf_netlink_conntrack.

The conntrack is unconfirmed, so we have an exclusive reference, which
means that the write_lock is definitely unneeded. A read_lock used to
be needed for the helper lookup, but since we're using RCU for helpers
now rcu_read_lock is enough.

Typical table module registers xt_table structure (i.e. packet_filter)
and link it to list during it. We can't use one template for it because
corresponding list_head will become corrupted. We also can't unregister
with template because it wasn't changed at all and thus doesn't know in
which list it is.
So, we duplicate template at the very first step of table registration.
Table modules will save it for use during unregistration time and actual
filtering.
Do it at once to not screw bisection.
P.S.: renaming i.e. packet_filter => __packet_filter is temporary until
full netnsization of table modules is done.

This patch introduces a mechanism for checking when labeled IPsec or SECMARK
are in use by keeping introducing a configuration reference counter for each
subsystem. In the case of labeled IPsec, whenever a labeled SA or SPD entry
is created the labeled IPsec/XFRM reference count is increased and when the
entry is removed it is decreased. In the case of SECMARK, when a SECMARK
target is created the reference count is increased and later decreased when the
target is removed. These reference counters allow SELinux to quickly determine
if either of these subsystems are enabled.
NetLabel already has a similar mechanism which provides the netlbl_enabled()
function.
This patch also renames the selinux_relabel_packet_permission() function to
selinux_secmark_relabel_packet_permission() as the original name and
description were misleading in that they referenced a single packet label which
is not the case.

Convert packet schedulers to use the netlink API. Unfortunately a gradual
conversion is not possible without breaking compilation in the middle or
adding lots of casts, so this patch converts them all in one step. The
patch has been mostly generated automatically with some minor edits to
