When an error was detected when checking the marks, a message was
correctly printed mentioning the error but followed by another one
saying everything was OK and the selftest was not marked as failed as
expected.
Now the 'ret' variable is directly set to 1 in order to make sure the
exit is done with an error, similar to what is done in other functions.
While at it, the error is correctly propagated to the caller.

In case of "external" errors when preparing the environment for the
TProxy tests, the subtests were marked as skipped.
This is fine but it means these errors are ignored. On MPTCP Public CI,
we do want to catch such issues and mark the selftest as failed if there
are such issues. We can then use mptcp_lib_fail_if_expected_feature()
helper that has been recently added to fail if needed.

Packets bound for peers can queue up prior to the device private key
being set. For example, if persistent keepalive is set, a packet is
queued up to be sent as soon as the device comes up. However, if the
private key hasn't been set yet, the handshake message never sends, and
no timer is armed to retry, since that would be pointless.
But, if a user later sets a private key, the expectation is that those
queued packets, such as a persistent keepalive, are actually sent. So
adjust the configuration logic to account for this edge case, and add a
test case to make sure this works.
Maxim noticed this with a wg-quick(8) config to the tune of:

PostUp = wg set %i private-key somefile
[Peer]
PublicKey = ...
Endpoint = ...
PersistentKeepalive = 25
Here, the private key gets set after the device comes up using a PostUp
script, triggering the bug.

Since commit f079a020ba ("selftests: memcg: factor out common parts of
memory.{low,min} tests"), the value used in second alloc_anon has changed
from 148M to 170M. Because memory.low allows reclaiming page cache in
child cgroups, so the memory.current is close to 30M instead of 50M.
Therefore, adjust the expected value of parent cgroup.

The sign-file utility (from scripts/) is used in prog_tests/verify_pkcs7_sig.c,
but the utility should not be called as a test. Executing this utility produces
the following error:

In the unlikely case that CLOCK_REALTIME is not defined, variable ret is
not initialized and further accumulation of return values to ret can leave
ret in an undefined state. Fix this by initialized ret to zero and changing
the assignment of ret to an accumulation for the CLOCK_REALTIME case.

When mirroring to a gretap in hardware the device expects to be
programmed with the egress port and all the encapsulating headers. This
requires the driver to resolve the path the packet will take in the
software data path and program the device accordingly.
If the path cannot be resolved (in this case because of an unresolved
neighbor), then mirror installation fails until the path is resolved.
This results in a race that causes the test to sometimes fail.
Fix this by setting the neighbor's state to permanent in a couple of
tests, so that it is always valid.

There are some MD5 tests which fail when the kernel is in FIPS mode,
since MD5 is not FIPS compliant. Add a check and only run those tests
if FIPS mode is not enabled.

The vrf-xfrm-tests tests use the hmac(md5) and cbc(des3_ede)
algorithms for performing authentication and encryption, respectively.
This causes the tests to fail when fips=1 is set, since these algorithms
are not allowed in FIPS mode. Therefore, switch from hmac(md5) and
cbc(des3_ede) to hmac(sha1) and cbc(aes), which are FIPS compliant.

TLS selftests use the ChaCha20-Poly1305 and SM4 algorithms, which are not

For aligned stack writes using BPF_ST instruction track stored values
in a same way BPF_STX is handled, e.g. make sure that the following
commands produce similar verifier knowledge:
fp[-8] = 42; r1 = 42;
fp[-8] = r1;
This covers two cases:
- non-null values written to stack are stored as spill of fake
registers;
- null values written to stack are stored as STACK_ZERO marks.
Previously both cases above used STACK_MISC marks instead.
Some verifier test cases relied on the old logic to obtain STACK_MISC
marks for some stack values. These test cases are updated in the same
commit to avoid failures during bisect.

It looks like this test was broken in v6.1 after the backport of commit
48d73f609d ("selftests: mptcp: update userspace pm addr tests").
It was not working because the commit ad3493746e ("selftests: mptcp:
add test-cases for mixed v4/v6 subflows") is not in v6.1. This commit
changes how the connections are being created in mptcp_join.sh selftest:
with IPv6 support always enabled. But then in v6.1, the server still
create IPv4 only connections, so without the v4-mapped-v6 format with
the "::ffff:" prefix like we have in v6.3.
The modification here adds a support for connections created in v4 as
well so it fixes the issue in v6.1. This patch is not needed for the
selftests in v6.3 because only IPv6 listening sockets are being created.

Selftests are supposed to run on any kernels, including the old ones not
supporting all MPTCP features.
Some tests are using IPTables and/or TC commands to force some
behaviours. If one of these commands fails -- likely because some
features are not available due to missing kernel config -- we should
intercept the error and skip the tests requiring these features.
Note that if we expect to have these features available and if
SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_EXPECT_ALL_FEATURES env var is set to 1, the tests
will be marked as failed instead of skipped.
This patch also replaces the 'exit 1' by 'return 1' not to stop the
selftest in the middle without the conclusion if there is an issue with
NF or TC.

It is possible to look for "mptcp_ioctl" in kallsyms because it was

One of them is the listen diag dump support introduced by
commit 4fa39b701c ("mptcp: listen diag dump support").
It looks like there is no good pre-check to do here, i.e. dedicated
function available in kallsyms. Instead, we try to get info if nothing
is returned, the test is marked as skipped.
That's not ideal because something could be wrong with the feature and
instead of reporting an error, the test could be marked as skipped. If
we know in advanced that the feature is supposed to be supported, the
tester can set SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_EXPECT_ALL_FEATURES env var to 1: in
this case the test will report an error instead of marking the test as
skipped if nothing is returned.

One of them is the support of the fullmesh flag for the in-kernel PM
introduced by commit 2843ff6f36 ("mptcp: remote addresses fullmesh")
and commit 1a0d6136c5 ("mptcp: local addresses fullmesh").
It looks like there is no easy external sign we can use to predict the
expected behaviour. We could add the flag and then check if it has been
added but for that, and for each fullmesh test, we would need to setup a
new environment, do the checks, clean it and then only start the test
from yet another clean environment. To keep it simple and avoid
introducing new issues, we look for a specific kernel version. That's
not ideal but an acceptable solution for this case.

Commit bccefb7624 ("selftests: mptcp: simplify pm_nl_change_endpoint")
has simplified the way the backup flag is set on an endpoint. Instead of
doing:
./pm_nl_ctl set 10.0.2.1 flags backup
Now we do:
./pm_nl_ctl set id 1 flags backup
The new way is easier to maintain but it is also incompatible with older
kernels not supporting the implicit endpoints putting in place the
infrastructure to set flags per ID, hence the second Fixes tag.

commit d045b9eb95 ("mptcp: introduce implicit endpoints").
It is possible to look for "mptcp_subflow_send_ack" in kallsyms because
it was needed to introduce the mentioned feature. So we can know in
advance if the feature is supported instead of trying and accepting any
results.
Note that here and in the following commits, we re-do the same check for
each sub-test of the same function for a few reasons. The main one is
not to break the ID assign to each test in order to be able to easily
compare results between different kernel versions. Also, we can still
run a specific test even if it is skipped. Another reason is that it
makes it clear during the review that a specific subtest will be skipped
or not under certain conditions. At the end, it looks OK to call the
exact same helper multiple times: it is not a critical path and it is
the same code that is executed, not really more cases to maintain.

At some points, a new feature caused internal behaviour changes we are
verifying in the selftests, see the Fixes tag below. It was not a UAPI
change but because in these selftests, we check some internal
behaviours, it is normal we have to adapt them from time to time after
having added some features.
It looks like there is no external sign we can use to predict the
expected behaviour. Instead of accepting different behaviours and thus
not really checking for the expected behaviour, we are looking here for
a specific kernel version. That's not ideal but it looks better than
removing the test because it cannot support older kernel versions.

At some points, a new feature caused internal behaviour changes we are
verifying in the selftests, see the Fixes tag below. It was not a uAPI
change but because in these selftests, we check some internal
behaviours, it is normal we have to adapt them from time to time after
having added some features.
It is possible to look for "mptcp_pm_subflow_check_next" in kallsyms
because it was needed to introduce the mentioned feature. So we can know
in advance what the behaviour we are expecting here instead of
supporting the two behaviours.

Selftests are supposed to run on any kernels, including the old ones not
supporting all MPTCP features.
One of them is the MPTCP MIB counters introduced in commit fc518953bc
("mptcp: add and use MIB counter infrastructure") and more later. The
MPTCP Join selftest heavily relies on these counters.
If a counter is not supported by the kernel, it is not displayed when
using 'nstat -z'. We can then detect that and skip the verification. A
new helper (get_counter()) has been added to do the required checks and
return an error if the counter is not available.
Note that if we expect to have these features available and if
SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_EXPECT_ALL_FEATURES env var is set to 1, the tests
will be marked as failed instead of skipped.
This new helper also makes sure we get the exact counter we want to
avoid issues we had in the past, e.g. with MPTcpExtRmAddr and
MPTcpExtRmAddrDrop sharing the same prefix. While at it, we uniform the
way we fetch a MIB counter.
Note for the backports: we rarely change these modified blocks so if
there is are conflicts, it is very likely because a counter is not used
in the older kernels and we don't need that chunk.

IPTables commands using 'iptables-nft' fail on old kernels, at least
5.15 because it doesn't see the default IPTables chains:

As a first step before switching to NFTables, we can use iptables-legacy

Selftests are supposed to run on any kernels, including the old ones not

A new function is now available to easily detect if a feature is
missing by looking at the kernel version. That's clearly not ideal and
this kind of check should be avoided as soon as possible. But sometimes,
there are no external sign that a "feature" is available or not:
internal behaviours can change without modifying the uAPI and these
selftests are verifying the internal behaviours. Sometimes, the only
(easy) way to verify if the feature is present is to run the test but
then the validation cannot determine if there is a failure with the
feature or if the feature is missing. Then it looks better to check the
kernel version instead of having tests that can never fail. In any case,
we need a solution not to have a whole selftest being marked as failed
just because one sub-test has failed.
Note that this env var car be set to 1 not to do such check and run the
linked sub-test: SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_NO_KVERSION_CHECK.
This new helper is going to be used in the following commits. In order
to ease the backport of such future patches, it would be good if this
patch is backported up to the introduction of MPTCP selftests, hence the
Fixes tag below: this type of check was supposed to be done from the
beginning.

One of them is the getsockopt(SOL_MPTCP) to get info about the MPTCP
connections introduced by commit 55c42fa7fa ("mptcp: add MPTCP_INFO
getsockopt") and the following ones.
We cannot guess in advance which sizes the kernel will returned: older
kernel can returned smaller sizes, e.g. recently the tcp_info structure
has been modified in commit 71fc704768 ("tcp: add rcv_wnd and
plb_rehash to TCP_INFO") where a new field has been added.
The userspace can also expect a smaller size if it is compiled with old
uAPI kernel headers.
So for these sizes, we can only check if they are above a certain
threshold, 0 for the moment. We can also only compared sizes with the
ones set by the kernel.

One of them is the fullmesh flag that can be given to the MPTCP
in-kernel path-manager and introduced in commit 2843ff6f36 ("mptcp:
remote addresses fullmesh").
If the flag is not visible in the dump after having set it, we don't
check the content. Note that if we expect to have this feature and
SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_EXPECT_ALL_FEATURES env var is set to 1, we always
check the content to avoid regressions.

One of them is the checks of the default limits returned by the MPTCP
in-kernel path-manager. The default values have been modified by commit
72bcbc46a5 ("mptcp: increase default max additional subflows to 2").
Instead of comparing with hardcoded values, we can get the default one
and compare with them.
Note that if we expect to have the latest version, we continue to check
the hardcoded values to avoid unexpected behaviour changes.

IP(V6)_TRANSPARENT socket option support has been added after TOS
support which came with the required infrastructure in MPTCP sockopt
code. To support TOS, the following function has been exported (T). Not
great but better than checking for a specific kernel version.

Most of the code had an issue according to ShellCheck.
That's mainly due to the fact it incorrectly believes most of the code
was unreachable because it's invoked by variable name, see how the
"tests" array is used.
Once SC2317 has been ignored, three small warnings were still visible:
- SC2155: Declare and assign separately to avoid masking return values.
- SC2046: Quote this to prevent word splitting: can be ignored because
"ip netns pids" can display more than one pid.
- SC2166: Prefer [ p ] || [ q ] as [ p -o q ] is not well defined.
This probably didn't fix any actual issues but it might help spotting
new interesting warnings reported by ShellCheck as just before,
ShellCheck was reporting issues for most lines making it a bit useless.

mptcp_connect tool was printing some duplicated entries when showing how
to use it: -j -l -r
While at it, I also:
- moved the very few entries that were not sorted,
- added -R that was missing since
commit 8a4b910d00 ("mptcp: selftests: add rcvbuf set option"),
- removed the -u parameter that has been removed in
commit f730b65c9d ("selftests: mptcp: try to set mptcp ulp mode in different sk states").
No need to backport this, it is just an internal tool used by our
selftests. The help menu is mainly useful for MPTCP kernel devs.

Previously, timestamps were printed using "%lld.%u" which is incorrect
for nanosecond values lower than 100,000,000 as they're fractional
digits, therefore leading zeros are meaningful.
This patch changes the format strings to "%lld.%09u" in order to add
leading zeros to the nanosecond value.

Setting the IPv6 address generation mode of a net device during its
creation never worked, but after commit b0ad3c1790 ("rtnetlink: call
validate_linkmsg in rtnl_create_link") it explicitly fails [1]. The
failure is caused by the fact that validate_linkmsg() is called before
the net device is registered, when it still does not have an 'inet6_dev'.
Likewise, raising the net device before setting the address generation
mode is meaningless, because by the time the mode is set, the address
has already been generated.
Therefore, fix the test to first create the net device, then set its
IPv6 address generation mode and finally bring it up.

Setting very small value of db like 10ms introduces rounding errors when
converting to/from jiffies on some kernel configs. For example, on 250hz
the actual value will be set to 12ms which causes the test to fail:

BusyBox's 'cmp' command doesn't support the '--bytes' parameter.
Some CIs -- i.e. LKFT -- use BusyBox and have the mptcp_join.sh test
failing [1] because their 'cmp' command doesn't support this '--bytes'
option:
cmp: unrecognized option '--bytes=1024'
BusyBox v1.35.0 () multi-call binary.
Usage: cmp [-ls] [-n NUM] FILE1 [FILE2]
Instead, 'head --bytes' can be used as this option is supported by
BusyBox. A temporary file is needed for this operation.
Because it is apparently quite common to use BusyBox, it is certainly
better to backport this fix to impacted kernels.

When building sign-file, the call to get the CFLAGS for libcrypto is
missing white-space between `pkg-config` and `--cflags`:

In the end of the test, there will be an error message induced by the
`ip netns del ns1` command in cleanup()

Partially backport v6.3 commit 11f75a0144 ("selftests/memfd: add tests
for MFD_NOEXEC_SEAL MFD_EXEC") to fix an unknown type name build error.
In some systems, the __u64 typedef is not present due to differences in
system headers, causing compilation errors like this one:

This header includes the __u64 typedef which increases the likelihood
of successful compilation on a wider variety of systems.

On some distributions, the rp_filter is automatically set (=1) by
default on a netdev basis (also on VRFs).
In an SRv6 End.DT4 behavior, decapsulated IPv4 packets are routed using
the table associated with the VRF bound to that tunnel. During lookup
operations, the rp_filter can lead to packet loss when activated on the
VRF.
Therefore, we chose to make this selftest more robust by explicitly
disabling the rp_filter during tests (as it is automatically set by some
Linux distributions).

The srv6_end_dt4_l3vpn_test instantiates a virtual network consisting of
several routers (rt-1, rt-2) and hosts.
When the IPv6 addresses of rt-{1,2} routers are configured, the Deduplicate
Address Detection (DAD) kicks in when enabled in the Linux distros running
the selftests. DAD is used to check whether an IPv6 address is already
assigned in a network. Such a mechanism consists of sending an ICMPv6 Echo
Request and waiting for a reply.
As the DAD process could take too long to complete, it may cause the
failing of some tests carried out by the srv6_end_dt4_l3vpn_test script.
To make the srv6_end_dt4_l3vpn_test more robust, we disable DAD on routers
since we configure the virtual network manually and do not need any address
deduplication mechanism at all.

There are several 'malloc' calls in test_memcontrol, which can be
unsuccessful. This patch will add 'malloc' failures checking to
give more details about test's fail reasons and avoid possible
undefined behavior during the future null dereference (like the
one in alloc_anon_50M_check_swap function).

The write index indicates which event the data is for and accesses a
per-file array. The index is passed by user processes during write()
calls as the first 4 bytes. Ensure that it cannot be negative by
returning -EINVAL to prevent out of bounds accesses.
Update ftrace self-test to ensure this occurs properly.

The testcase verifies the setting of different fields in Monitor Mode
Control Register A (MMCRA). In the current code, EV_CODE_EXTRACT macro
is used to extract the "sample" field, which then needs to be further
processed to fetch rand_samp_elig and rand_samp_mode bits. But the
current code is not passing valid sample field to EV_CODE_EXTRACT
macro. Patch addresses this by fixing the input for EV_CODE_EXTRACT.

if sch_fq is configured with "initial quantum" having values greater than
INT_MAX, the first assignment of "credit" does signed integer overflow to
a very negative value.
In this situation, the syzkaller script provided by Cristoph triggers the
CPU soft-lockup warning even with few sockets. It's not an infinite loop,
but "credit" wasn't probably meant to be minus 2Gb for each new flow.
Capping "initial quantum" to INT_MAX proved to fix the issue.

Currently, perf_event sample period in perf_event_stackmap is set too low
that the test fails randomly. Fix this by using the max sample frequency,
from read_perf_max_sample_freq().
Move read_perf_max_sample_freq() to testing_helpers.c. Replace the CHECK()
with if-printf, as CHECK is not available in testing_helpers.c.

In some cases the loopback latency might be large enough, causing
the assertion on invocations to be run before ingress prog getting
executed. The assertion would fail and the test would flake.
This can be reliably reproduced by arbitrarily increasing the
loopback latency (thanks to [1]):

tc qdisc add dev lo parent 1:12 netem delay 100ms
Fix this by waiting on the receive end, instead of instantly
returning to the assert. The call to read() will wait for the
default SO_RCVTIMEO timeout of 3 seconds provided by
start_server().

Fix flaky STATS_RX_DROPPED test. The receiver calls getsockopt after
receiving the last (valid) packet which is not the final packet sent in
the test (valid and invalid packets are sent in alternating fashion with
the final packet being invalid). Since the last packet may or may not
have been dropped already, both outcomes must be allowed.
This issue could also be fixed by making sure the last packet sent is
valid. This alternative is left as an exercise to the reader (or the
benevolent maintainers of this file).
This problem was quite visible on certain setups. On one machine this
failure was observed 50% of the time.
Also, remove a redundant assignment of pkt_stream->nb_pkts. This field
is already initialized by __pkt_stream_alloc.

This change fixes flakiness in the BIDIRECTIONAL test:

not ok 1 FAIL: SKB BUSY-POLL BIDIRECTIONAL
When IPv6 is enabled, the interface will periodically send MLDv1 and
MLDv2 packets. These packets can cause the BIDIRECTIONAL test to fail
since it uses VETH0 for RX.
For other tests, this was not a problem since they only receive on VETH1
and IPv6 was already disabled on VETH0.

The 64bit umin=9223372036854775810 bound continuously bumps by +1 while
umax=9223372036854775823 stays as-is until the verifier complexity limit
is reached and the program gets finally rejected. During this simulation,
the umin also eventually surpasses umax. Looking at the first 'from 12
to 11' output line from the loop, R1 has the following state:

The var_off has technically not an inconsistent state but it's very
imprecise and far off surpassing 64bit umax bounds whereas the expected
output with refined known bits in var_off should have been like:

In the above log, var_off stays as var_off=(0x8000000000000000; 0xffffffff)
and does not converge into a narrower mask where more bits become known,
eventually transforming R1 into a constant upon umin=9223372036854775823,
umax=9223372036854775823 case where the verifier would have terminated and
let the program pass.
The __reg_combine_64_into_32() marks the subregister unknown and propagates
64bit {s,u}min/{s,u}max bounds to their 32bit equivalents iff they are within
the 32bit universe. The question came up whether __reg_combine_64_into_32()
should special case the situation that when 64bit {s,u}min bounds have
the same value as 64bit {s,u}max bounds to then assign the latter as
well to the 32bit reg->{s,u}32_{min,max}_value. As can be seen from the
above example however, that is just /one/ special case and not a /generic/
solution given above example would still not be addressed this way and
remain at an imprecise var_off=(0x8000000000000000; 0xffffffff).
The improvement is needed in __reg_bound_offset() to refine var32_off with
the updated var64_off instead of the prior reg->var_off. The reg_bounds_sync()
code first refines information about the register's min/max bounds via
__update_reg_bounds() from the current var_off, then in __reg_deduce_bounds()
from sign bit and with the potentially learned bits from bounds it'll
update the var_off tnum in __reg_bound_offset(). For example, intersecting
with the old var_off might have improved bounds slightly, e.g. if umax
was 0x7f...f and var_off was (0; 0xf...fc), then new var_off will then
result in (0; 0x7f...fc). The intersected var64_off holds then the
universe which is a superset of var32_off. The point for the latter is
not to broaden, but to further refine known bits based on the intersection
of var_off with 32 bit bounds, so that we later construct the final var_off
from upper and lower 32 bits. The final __update_reg_bounds() can then
potentially still slightly refine bounds if more bits became known from the
new var_off.
After the improvement, we can see R1 converging successively:

resctrl_val() assumes ->setup() always returns either 0 to continue
tests or < 0 in case of the normal termination of tests after x runs.
The latter overlaps with normal error returns.
Define END_OF_TESTS (=1) to differentiate the normal termination of
tests and return errors as negative values. Alter callers of ->setup()
to handle errors properly.

resctrl_val() function is called only by MBM, MBA, and CMT tests which
means the else branch is never used.
Both test branches call param->setup().
Remove the unused else branch and place the ->setup() call outside of
the test specific branches reducing code duplication.

malloc_and_init_memory() in fill_buf isn't checking if memalign()

Building sigaltstack with clang via:

Clang expects these to be declared at global scope; we've fixed this in
the kernel proper by using the macro `current_stack_pointer`. This is
defined in different headers for different target architectures, so just
create a new header that defines the arch-specific register names for
the stack pointer register, and define it for more targets (at least the
ones that support current_stack_pointer/ARCH_HAS_CURRENT_STACK_POINTER).

During the development of the maple tree, the strategy of freeing multiple
nodes changed and, in the process, the pivots were reused to store
pointers to dead nodes. To ensure the readers see accurate pivots, the
writers need to mark the nodes as dead and call smp_wmb() to ensure any
readers can identify the node as dead before using the pivot values.
There were two places where the old method of marking the node as dead
without smp_wmb() were being used, which resulted in RCU readers seeing
the wrong pivot value before seeing the node was dead. Fix this race
condition by using mte_set_node_dead() which has the smp_wmb() call to
ensure the race is closed.
Add a WARN_ON() to the ma_free_rcu() call to ensure all nodes being freed
are marked as dead to ensure there are no other call paths besides the two
updated paths.
This is necessary for the RCU mode of the maple tree.

Add a union to provide hv_enlightenments side-by-side with the sw_reserved

Move Hyper-V's VMCB "struct hv_enlightenments" to the svm.h header so
that the struct can be referenced in "struct vmcb_control_area".
Alternatively, a dedicated header for SVM+Hyper-V could be added, a la
x86_64/evmcs.h, but it doesn't appear that Hyper-V will end up needing
a wholesale replacement for the VMCB.
No functional change intended.

The netlink message for creating a new datapath takes an array
of ports for the PID creation. This shouldn't cause much issue

Preallocations are common in the VMA code to avoid allocating under
certain locking conditions. The preallocations must also cover the

kmem_cache_alloc() (and bulk variant) calls will reduce the amount of time
spent zeroing memory that may not be used. Only zero out the necessary
area to keep track of the allocations in the maple state. Zero the entire
node prior to using it in the tree.
This required internal changes to node counting on allocation, so the test
code is also updated.
This restores some micro-benchmark performance: up to +9% in mmtests mmap1
by my testing +10% to +20% in mmap, mmapaddr, mmapmany tests reported by
Red Hat

Fix bug in btf_dump's logic of determining if a given struct type is
packed or not. The notion of "natural alignment" is not needed and is
even harmful in this case, so drop it altogether. The biggest difference
in btf_is_struct_packed() compared to its original implementation is
that we don't really use btf__align_of() to determine overall alignment
of a struct type (because it could be 1 for both packed and non-packed
struct, depending on specifci field definitions), and just use field's
actual alignment to calculate whether any field is requiring packing or
struct's size overall necessitates packing.
Add two simple test cases that demonstrate the difference this change
would make.

Turns out that btf_dump API doesn't handle a bunch of tricky corner
cases, as reported by Per, and further discovered using his testing
Python script ([0]).
This patch revamps btf_dump's padding logic significantly, making it
more correct and also avoiding unnecessary explicit padding, where
compiler would pad naturally. This overall topic turned out to be very
tricky and subtle, there are lots of subtle corner cases. The comments
in the code tries to give some clues, but comments themselves are
supposed to be paired with good understanding of C alignment and padding
rules. Plus some experimentation to figure out subtle things like
whether `long :0;` means that struct is now forced to be long-aligned
(no, it's not, turns out).
Anyways, Per's script, while not completely correct in some known
situations, doesn't show any obvious cases where this logic breaks, so
this is a nice improvement over the previous state of this logic.
Some selftests had to be adjusted to accommodate better use of natural
alignment rules, eliminating some unnecessary padding, or changing it to
`type: 0;` alignment markers.
Note also that for when we are in between bitfields, we emit explicit
bit size, while otherwise we use `: 0`, this feels much more natural in
practice.
Next patch will add few more test cases, found through randomized Per's
script.

William reports kernel soft-lockups on some OVS topologies when TC mirred
egress->ingress action is hit by local TCP traffic [1].
The same can also be reproduced with SCTP (thanks Xin for verifying), when
client and server reach themselves through mirred egress to ingress, and
one of the two peers sends a "heartbeat" packet (from within a timer).
Enqueueing to backlog proved to fix this soft lockup; however, as Cong
noticed [2], we should preserve - when possible - the current mirred
behavior that counts as "overlimits" any eventual packet drop subsequent to
the mirred forwarding action [3]. A compromise solution might use the
backlog only when tcf_mirred_act() has a nest level greater than one:
change tcf_mirred_forward() accordingly.
Also, add a kselftest that can reproduce the lockup and verifies TC mirred
ability to account for further packet drops after TC mirred egress->ingress
(when the nest level is 1).

The `devlink -j port show` command output may not contain the "flavour"
key, an example from Ubuntu 22.10 s390x LPAR(5.19.0-37-generic), with
mlx4 driver and iproute2-5.15.0:

Create a validate_devlink_output() to check for this "flavour" from
devlink command output to avoid this KeyError exception. Also let
it handle the check for `devlink -j dev show` output in main().
Apart from this, if the test was not started because the max lanes of
the designated device is 0. The script will still return 0 and thus
causing a false-negative test result.
Use a found_max_lanes flag to determine if these tests were skipped
due to this reason and return KSFT_SKIP to make it more clear.

&xdp_buff and &xdp_frame are bound in a way that
xdp_buff->data_hard_start == xdp_frame
It's always the case and e.g. xdp_convert_buff_to_frame() relies on
this.
IOW, the following:

xdp_convert_frame_to_buff(xdpf, &xdp);

shouldn't ever modify @xdpf's contents or the pointer itself.
However, "live packet" code wrongly treats &xdp_frame as part of its
context placed *before* the data_hard_start. With such flow,
data_hard_start is sizeof(*xdpf) off to the right and no longer points
to the XDP frame.
Instead of replacing `sizeof(ctx)` with `offsetof(ctx, xdpf)` in several
places and praying that there are no more miscalcs left somewhere in the
code, unionize ::frm with ::data in a flex array, so that both starts
pointing to the actual data_hard_start and the XDP frame actually starts
being a part of it, i.e. a part of the headroom, not the context.
A nice side effect is that the maximum frame size for this mode gets
increased by 40 bytes, as xdp_buff::frame_sz includes everything from
data_hard_start (-> includes xdpf already) to the end of XDP/skb shared
info.
Also update %MAX_PKT_SIZE accordingly in the selftests code. Leave it
hardcoded for 64 bit && 4k pages, it can be made more flexible later on.
Minor: align `&head->data` with how `head->frm` is assigned for
consistency.
Minor #2: rename 'frm' to 'frame' in &xdp_page_head while at it for
clarity.
(was found while testing XDP traffic generator on ice, which calls
xdp_convert_frame_to_buff() for each XDP frame)

The test_local_dnat_portonly() function initiates the client-side as
soon as it sets the listening side to the background. This could lead to
a race condition where the server may not be ready to listen. To ensure
that the server-side is up and running before initiating the
client-side, a delay is introduced to the test_local_dnat_portonly()
function.

There is a disconnect between the run_command function and the
wait_for_input. The wait_for_input has a default timeout of 2 minutes. But
if that happens, the run_command loop will exit out to the waitpid() of
the executing command. This fails in that it no longer monitors the
command, and also, the ssh to the test box can hang when its finished, as
it's waiting for the pipe it's writing to to flush, but the loop that
reads that pipe has already exited, leaving the command stuck, and the
test hangs.
Instead, make the default "wait_for_input" of the run_command infinite,
and allow the user to override it if they want with a default timeout
option "RUN_TIMEOUT".
But this fixes the hang that happens when the pipe is full and the ssh
session never exits.

In the "reboot" command, it does a check of the machine to see if it is
still alive with a simple "ssh echo" command. If it fails, it will assume
that a normal "ssh reboot" is not possible and force a power cycle.
In this case, the "start_monitor" is executed, but the "end_monitor" is
not, and this causes the screen will not be given back to the console. That
is, after the test, a "reset" command needs to be performed, as "echo" is
turned off.

When monitoring the console output, the stdout is being redirected to do
so. If Ctrl^C is hit during this mode, the stdout is not back to the
console, the user does not see anything they type (no echo).
Add "end_monitor" to the SIGINT interrupt handler to give back the console
on Ctrl^C.

Update ptrace tests according to all potential Yama security policies.
This is required to make such tests pass even if Yama is enabled.
Tests are not skipped but they now check both Landlock and Yama boundary
restrictions at run time to keep a maximum test coverage (i.e. positive
and negative testing).

overlayfs may be disabled in the kernel configuration, causing related
tests to fail. Check that overlayfs is supported at runtime, so we can

Find the actual echo binary using $(which echo) and use it for
formatted output with -ne. On some systems, the default echo command
doesn't handle the -e option and the output looks like this (arm64
build):
-ne Emit Tests for alsa
-ne Emit Tests for amd-pstate
-ne Emit Tests for arm64
This is for example the case with the KernelCI Docker images
e.g. kernelci/gcc-10:x86-kselftest-kernelci. With the actual echo
binary (e.g. in /bin/echo), the output is formatted as expected (x86
build this time):

Emit Tests for amd-pstate
Skipping non-existent dir: arm64
Only the install target is using "echo -ne" so keep the $ECHO variable
local to it.

When devlink instance is put into network namespace and that network
namespace gets deleted, devlink instance is moved back into init_ns.
This is done as a part of cleanup_net() routine. Since cleanup_net()
is called asynchronously from workqueue, there is no guarantee that
the devlink instance move is done after "ip netns del" returns.
So fix this race by making sure that the devlink instance is present
before any other operation.

Usage of `set -e` before executing a command causes immediate exit
on failure, without cleanup up the resources allocated at setup.
This can affect the next tests that use the same resources,
leading to a chain of failures.
A simple fix is to always call cleanup function when the script exists.
This approach is already used by other existing tests.

s390x cache line size is 256 bytes, so skb_shared_info must be aligned

The compiler is optimizing out majority of unref_ptr read/writes, so the test
wasn't testing much. For example, one could delete '__kptr' tag from
'struct prog_test_ref_kfunc __kptr *unref_ptr;' and the test would still "pass".
Convert it to volatile stores. Confirmed by comparing bpf asm before/after.

Building BPF selftests out of srctree fails with:
make: *** No rule to make target '/linux-build//ima_setup.sh', needed by 'ima_setup.sh'. Stop.
The culprit is the rule that defines convenient shorthands like
"make test_progs", which builds $(OUTPUT)/test_progs. These shorthands
make sense only for binaries that are built though; scripts that live
in the source tree do not end up in $(OUTPUT).
Therefore drop $(TEST_PROGS) and $(TEST_PROGS_EXTENDED) from the rule.
The issue exists for a while, but it became a problem only after commit
d68ae4982c ("selftests/bpf: Install all required files to run selftests"),
which added dependencies on these scripts.

xdp_synproxy/xdp fails in CI with:
Error: bpf_tc_hook_create: File exists
The XDP version of the test should not be calling bpf_tc_hook_create();
the reason it's happening anyway is that if we don't specify --tc on the
command line, tc variable remains uninitialized.

The current signal handling tests for SME do not account for the fact that
unlike SVE all SME vector lengths are optional so we can't guarantee that
we will encounter the minimum possible VL, they will hang enumerating VLs
on such systems. Abort enumeration when we find the lowest VL.

As stated in README.rst, in order to resolve errors with linker errors,
'LDLIBS=-static' should be used. Most problems will be solved by this
option, but in the case of urandom_read, this won't fix the problem. So
the Makefile is currently implemented to strip the 'static' option when
compiling the urandom_read. However, stripping this static option isn't
configured properly on $(LDLIBS) correctly, which is now causing errors
on static compilation.

lld produces "fast" style build-ids by default, which is inconsistent
with ld's "sha1" style. Explicitly specify build-id style to be "sha1"
when linking liburandom_read.so the same way it is already done for

SME does not mandate any specific VL so we may not have 128 bit SME but
the algorithm used for enumerating VLs assumes that we will. Add the
required check to ensure that the algorithm terminates.

We have two IS1 filters of the OCELOT_VCAP_KEY_ANY key type (the one with
"action vlan pop" and the one with "action vlan modify") and one of the
OCELOT_VCAP_KEY_IPV4 key type (the one with "action skbedit priority").
But we have no IS1 filter with the OCELOT_VCAP_KEY_ETYPE key type, and
there was an uncaught breakage there.
To increase test coverage, convert one of the OCELOT_VCAP_KEY_ANY
filters to OCELOT_VCAP_KEY_ETYPE, by making the filter also match on the
MAC SA of the traffic sent by mausezahn, $h1_mac.

While KVM_XEN_EVTCHN_RESET is usually called with no vCPUs running,
if that happened it could cause a deadlock. This is due to
kvm_xen_eventfd_reset() doing a synchronize_srcu() inside
a kvm->lock critical section.
To avoid this, first collect all the evtchnfd objects in an
array and free all of them once the kvm->lock critical section
is over and th SRCU grace period has expired.

The commit 4656d72c1e ("selftests: mptcp: userspace: validate v4-v6 subflows mix")
has been backported to v6.1.8 without any conflicts. But it looks like
it was depending on a previous one:

This dependence refactors the way the monitoring files are being
created: only once for all the different sub-tests instead of per

It is probably better to avoid backporting the refactoring. That is why
the new sub-test has been adapted to work using the previous way that is
still in place here in v6.1: the monitoring is started at the beginning
of each sub-test and the created file is removed at the end.

"tcpdump" is used to capture traffic in these tests while using a random,
temporary and not suffixed file for it. This can interfere with apparmor
configuration where the tool is only allowed to read from files with
'known' extensions.
The MINE type application/vnd.tcpdump.pcap was registered with IANA for
pcap files and .pcap is the extension that is both most common but also
aligned with standard apparmor configurations. See TCPDUMP(8) for more
details.
This improves compatibility with standard apparmor configurations by
using ".pcap" as the file extension for the tests' temporary files.

These 'endpoint' tests from 'mptcp_join.sh' selftest start a transfer in
the background and check the status during this transfer.
Once the expected events have been recorded, there is no reason to wait
for the data transfer to finish. It can be stopped earlier to reduce the
execution time by more than half.
For these tests, the exchanged data were not verified. Errors, if any,
were ignored but that's fine, plenty of other tests are looking at that.
It is then OK to mute stderr now that we are sure errors will be printed
(and still ignored) because the transfer is stopped before the end.

A test-case is frequently failing on some extremely slow VMs.
The mptcp transfer completes before the script is able to do
all the required PM manipulation.
Address the issue in the simplest possible way, making the
transfer even more slow.
Additionally dump more info in case of failures, to help debugging
similar problems in the future and init dump_stats var.

It was found that the check to see if a partition could use up all
the cpus from the parent cpuset in update_parent_subparts_cpumask()
was incorrect. As a result, it is possible to leave parent with no
effective cpu left even if there are tasks in the parent cpuset. This
can lead to system panic as reported in [1].
Fix this probem by updating the check to fail the enabling the partition
if parent's effective_cpus is a subset of the child's cpus_allowed.
Also record the error code when an error happens in update_prstate()
and add a test case where parent partition and child have the same cpu
list and parent has task. Enabling partition in the child will fail in
this case.

The test tool can check that the zerocopy number of completions value is
valid taking into consideration the number of datagram send calls. This can
catch the system into a state where the datagrams are still in the system
(for example in a qdisk, waiting for the network interface to return a
completion notification, etc).
This change adds a retry logic of computing the number of completions up to
a configurable (via CLI) timeout (default: 2 seconds).

"udpgro_bench.sh" invokes udpgso_bench_rx/udpgso_bench_tx programs
subsequently and while doing so, there is a chance that the rx one is not
ready to accept socket connections. This racing bug could fail the test
with at least one of the following:
./udpgso_bench_tx: connect: Connection refused
./udpgso_bench_tx: sendmsg: Connection refused
./udpgso_bench_tx: write: Connection refused
This change addresses this by making udpgro_bench.sh wait for the rx
program to be ready before firing off the tx one - up to a 10s timeout.

When use tools/testing/selftests/kselftest_install.sh to make the
kselftest-list.txt under tools/testing/selftests/kselftest_install.
Then use tools/testing/selftests/kselftest_install/run_kselftest.sh to run
all the kselftests in kselftest-list.txt, it will be blocked by case
"filesystems/fat: run_fat_tests.sh" with "Warning: file run_fat_tests.sh
is not executable", so grant executable permission to run_fat_tests.sh to
fix this issue.

Avoid race between process wakeup and tpacket_v3 block timeout.
The test waits for cfg_timeout_msec for packets to arrive. Packets
arrive in tpacket_v3 rings, which pass packets ("frames") to the
process in batches ("blocks"). The sk waits for req3.tp_retire_blk_tov
msec to release a block.
Set the block timeout lower than the process waiting time, else
the process may find that no block has been released by the time it
scans the socket list. Convert to a ring of more than one, smaller,
blocks with shorter timeouts. Blocks must be page aligned, so >= 64KB.

MPTCP protocol supports having subflows in both IPv4 and IPv6. In Linux,
it is possible to have that if the MPTCP socket has been created with
AF_INET6 family without the IPV6_V6ONLY option.
Here, a new IPv4 subflow is being added to the initial IPv6 connection,
then being removed using Netlink commands.

vsyscall detection code uses direct call to the beginning of
the vsyscall page:
asm ("call %P0" :: "i" (0xffffffffff600000))
It generates "call rel32" instruction but it is not relocated if binary
is PIE, so binary segfaults into random userspace address and vsyscall
page status is detected incorrectly.
Do more direct:

which doesn't do need any relocaltions.
Mark g_vsyscall as volatile for a good measure, I didn't find instruction
setting it to 0. Now the code is obviously correct:

This cmsg_so_mark.sh test will hang on non-amd64 systems because of the
infinity loop for argument parsing in cmsg_sender.
Variable "o" in cs_parse_args() for taking getopt() should be an int,
otherwise it will be 255 when getopt() returns -1 on non-amd64 system
and thus causing infinity loop.

Use 'set -e' and an exit handler to stop the script if a command fails
and ensure the test environment is cleaned up in any case. Also, handle
the case where the script is interrupted by SIGINT.
The only command that's expected to fail is 'wait $ping_pid', since
it's killed by the script. Handle this case with '|| true' to make it
play well with 'set -e'.
Finally, return the Kselftest SKIP code (4) when the script breaks
because of an environment problem or a command line failure. The 0 and
1 return codes should now reliably indicate that all tests have been
run (0: all tests run and passed, 1: all tests run but at least one
failed, 4: test script didn't run completely).

This selftest currently runs half in the current namespace and half in
a netns of its own. Therefore, the test can fail if the current
namespace is already configured with incompatible parameters (for
example if it already has a veth0 interface).
Adapt the script to put both ends of the veth pair in their own netns.
Now veth0 is created in NS0 instead of the current namespace, while
veth1 is set up in NS1 (instead of the 'testing' netns).
The user visible netns names are randomised to minimise the risk of
conflicts with already existing namespaces. The cleanup() function
doesn't need to remove the virtual interface anymore: deleting NS0 and
NS1 automatically removes the virtual interfaces they contained.
We can remove $ns, which was only used to run ip commands in the
'testing' netns (let's use the builtin "-netns" option instead).
However, we still need a similar functionality as ping and tcpdump
now need to run in NS0. So we now have $RUN_NS0 for that.

The ping command can run before DAD completes. In that case, ping may
fail and break the selftest.
We don't need DAD here since we're working on isolated device pairs.

Adjust size parameter in connect() to match the type of the parameter, to
fix "No such file or directory" error in selftests/net/af_unix/
test_oob_unix.c:127.
The existing code happens to work provided that the autogenerated pathname
is shorter than sizeof (struct sockaddr), which is why it hasn't been
noticed earlier.

The kselftest framework uses a default timeout of 45 seconds for
all test scripts.
Increase the timeout to two minutes for the netfilter tests, this
should hopefully be enough,
Make sure that, should the script be canceled, the net namespace and
the spawned ping instances are removed.

If CONFIG_DEFERRED_STRUCT_PAGE_INIT is enabled, memblock_free_pages()
only releases pages to the buddy allocator if they are not in the
deferred range. This is correct for free pages (as defined by
for_each_free_mem_pfn_range_in_zone()) because free pages in the
deferred range will be initialized and released as part of the deferred
init process. memblock_free_pages() is called by memblock_free_late(),
which is used to free reserved ranges after memblock_free_all() has
run. All pages in reserved ranges have been initialized at that point,
and accordingly, those pages are not touched by the deferred init
process. This means that currently, if the pages that
memblock_free_late() intends to release are in the deferred range, they
will never be released to the buddy allocator. They will forever be
reserved.
In addition, memblock_free_pages() calls kmsan_memblock_free_pages(),
which is also correct for free pages but is not correct for reserved
pages. KMSAN metadata for reserved pages is initialized by
kmsan_init_shadow(), which runs shortly before memblock_free_all().
For both of these reasons, memblock_free_pages() should only be called
for free pages, and memblock_free_late() should call __free_pages_core()
directly instead.
One case where this issue can occur in the wild is EFI boot on
x86_64. The x86 EFI code reserves all EFI boot services memory ranges
via memblock_reserve() and frees them later via memblock_free_late()
(efi_reserve_boot_services() and efi_free_boot_services(),
respectively). If any of those ranges happens to fall within the
deferred init range, the pages will not be released and that memory will
be unavailable.
For example, on an Amazon EC2 t3.micro VM (1 GB) booting via EFI:

The cleanup_v6() will cause the arp_ndisc_evict_nocarrier script exit
with 255 (No such file or directory), even the tests are good:

to extend compiler checks: make USERCFLAGS=-Werror USERLDFLAGS=-static
USERCFLAGS and USERLDFLAGS are documented in
Documentation/kbuild/makefiles.rst and Documentation/kbuild/kbuild.rst
This should be backported (down to 5.10) to improve previous kernel
versions testing as well.

After a full run of a make_min_config test, I noticed there were a lot of
CONFIGs still enabled that really should not be. Looking at them, I
noticed they were all defined as "default y". The issue is that the test
simple removes the config and re-runs make oldconfig, which enables it
again because it is set to default 'y'. Instead, explicitly disable the
config with writing "# CONFIG_FOO is not set" to the file to keep it from
being set again.
With this change, one of my box's minconfigs went from 768 configs set,
down to 521 configs set.

grub2 has submenus where to use grub-reboot, it requires:

$number + > bash means redirect FD $number, e.g. commonly
used 2> redirects stderr (fd 2). The test uses 8192> to
write the number 8192 to a file, this results in:
./devlink.sh: line 499: 8192: Bad file descriptor
Oddly the test also papers over this issue by checking
for failure (expecting an error rather than success)
so it passes, anyway.

BPF selftests require CONFIG_FUNCTION_ERROR_INJECTION to work. However,
CONFIG_FUNCTION_ERROR_INJECTION is no longer 'y' by default after recent
changes. As a result, we are seeing errors like the following from BPF CI:
bpf_testmod_test_read() is not modifiable
__x64_sys_setdomainname is not sleepable
__x64_sys_getpgid is not sleepable
Fix this by explicitly selecting CONFIG_FUNCTION_ERROR_INJECTION in the
selftest config.
