be1861320a can: ifi: Update timing configuration code
The updated documentation regarding the IFI CANFD core from April 2016
adds more details regarding the timing calculation. There is no longer
any distinction in the timing calculation between CANFD and CAN2.0, but
instead there are two timing modes -- 4_12_6_6 and 7_9_8_8 -- where the
numbers mean the width in bits of the SJW/Prescaler/TimeA/TimeB fields.
The code uses 7_9_8_8 mode, which allows more fine-grained control over
the timing.

b16e368ed6 can: janz-ican3: error handling for CAL/CANopen firmware
My patch of May 2015 was missing the changed handling of error
indications. With CAL/CANopen firmware the NMTS-SlaveEventIndication
must be used instead of CAN-EventIndication. An appropriate slave node
must be configured to report the errors.

In our department (about 15 development systems with Janz ICAN3-
modules with firmware 1.48, my system also with firmware ICANOS 1.35)
we use the driver with this patch for about one year: no known problems.

bb208f144c can: fix handling of unmodifiable configuration options
As described in 'can: m_can: tag current CAN FD controllers as non-ISO'
(6cfda7fbeb) it is possible to define fixed configuration options by
setting the according bit in 'ctrlmode' and clear it in 'ctrlmode_supported'.
This leads to the incovenience that the fixed configuration bits can not be
passed by netlink even when they have the correct values (e.g. non-ISO, FD).

This patch fixes that issue and not only allows fixed set bit values to be set
again but now requires(!) to provide these fixed values at configuration time.
A valid CAN FD configuration consists of a nominal/arbitration bittiming, a
data bittiming and a control mode with CAN_CTRLMODE_FD set - which is now
enforced by a new can_validate() function. This fix additionally removed the
inconsistency that was prohibiting the support of 'CANFD-only' controller
drivers, like the RCar CAN FD.

For this reason a new helper can_set_static_ctrlmode() has been introduced to
provide a proper interface to handle static enabled CAN controller options.

b6fd3aba60 can: mcp251x: Replace create_freezable_workqueue with alloc_workqueue
Replace scheduled to be removed create_freezable_workqueue with
alloc_workqueue.

priv->wq should be explicitly set as freezable to ensure it is frozen
in the suspend sequence and work items are drained so that no new work
item starts execution until thawed. Thus, use of WQ_FREEZABLE flag
here is required.

WQ_MEM_RECLAIM flag has been set here to ensure forward progress
regardless of memory pressure.

The order of execution is not important so set @max_active as 0.

6cc6426605 can: ifi: Add obscure bit swap for EFF frame IDs
In case of CAN2.0 EFF frame, the controller handles frame IDs in a
rather bizzare way. The ID is split into an extended part, IDX[28:11]
and standard part, ID[10:0]. In the TX path, the core first sends the
top 11 bits of the IDX, followed by ID and finally the rest of IDX.
In the RX path, the core stores the ID the LSbit part of IDX field,
followed by the LSbit parts of real IDX. The MSbit parts of IDX are
stored in ID field of the register.

This patch implements the necessary bit shuffling to mitigate this
obscure behavior. In case two of these controllers are connected
together, the RX and TX bit swapping nullifies itself and the issue
does not manifest. The issue only manifests when talking to another
different CAN controller.

f1deaee0c3 can: ifi: Fix TX DLC configuration
The TX DLC, the transmission length information, was not written
into the transmit configuration register. When using the CAN core
with different CAN controller, the receiving CAN controller will
receive only the ID part of the CAN frame, but no data at all.

This patch adds the TX DLC into the register to fix this issue.

99312c377f can: ifi: Fix clock generator configuration
The clock generation does not match reality when using the CAN IP
core outside of the FPGA design. This patch fixes the computation
of values which are programmed into the clock generator registers.

First, there are some off-by-one errors which manifest themselves
only when communicating with different controller, so those are
fixed.

Second, the bits in the clock generator registers have different
meaning depending on whether the core is in ISO CANFD mode or any
of the other modes (BOSCH CANFD or CAN2.0). Detect the ISO CANFD
mode and fix handling of this special case of clock configuration.

Finally, the CAN clock speed is in CANCLOCK register, not SYSCLOCK
register, so fix this as well.

0dfa61bba3 can: rcar: add gen[12] fallback compatibility strings
Add fallback compatibility string for R-Car Gen 1 and Gen2.

In the case of Renesas R-Car hardware we know that there are generations of
SoCs, e.g. Gen 1 and Gen 2. But beyond that its not clear what the
relationship between IP blocks might be. For example, I believe that
r8a7779 is older than r8a7778 but that doesn't imply that the latter is a
descendant of the former or vice versa.

We can, however, by examining the documentation and behaviour of the
hardware at run-time observe that the current driver implementation appears
to be compatible with the IP blocks on SoCs within a given generation.

For the above reasons and convenience when enabling new SoCs a
per-generation fallback compatibility string scheme being adopted for
drivers for Renesas SoCs.

e9a2d81b17 can: gs_usb: fixed disconnect bug by removing erroneous use of kfree()
gs_destroy_candev() erroneously calls kfree() on a struct gs_can *, which is
allocated through alloc_candev() and should instead be freed using
free_candev() alone.

The inappropriate use of kfree() causes the kernel to hang when
gs_destroy_candev() is called.

Only the struct gs_usb * which is allocated through kzalloc() should be freed
using kfree() when the device is disconnected.

90cfde4658 can: ems_usb: Fix possible tx overflow
This patch fixes the problem that more CAN messages could be sent to the
interface as could be send on the CAN bus. This was more likely for slow baud
rates. The sleeping _start_xmit was woken up in the _write_bulk_callback. Under
heavy TX load this produced another bulk transfer without checking the
free_slots variable and hence caused the overflow in the interface.

dfb86c0d5a can: sja1000: of: add compatibility with Technologic Systems version
Technologic Systems provides an IP compatible with the SJA1000,
instantiated in an FPGA. Because of some bus widths issue, access to
registers is made through a "window" that works like this:

    base + 0x0: address to read/write
    base + 0x2: 8-bit register value

This commit adds a new compatible device, "technologic,sja1000", with
read and write functions using the window mechanism.

a2ec19f888 can: remove obsolete assignment for CAN protocol error type
The assignment 'cf->data[2] |= CAN_ERR_PROT_UNSPEC' used at CAN error message
creation time is obsolete as CAN_ERR_PROT_UNSPEC is zero and cf->data[2] is
initialized with zero in alloc_can_err_skb() anyway.

So we could either assign 'cf->data[2] = CAN_ERR_PROT_UNSPEC' correctly or we
can remove the obsolete OR operation entirely.

ffd461f80d can: fix assignment of error location in CAN error messages

the assignment of the error location in CAN error messages had some bit wise
overlaps. Indeed the value to be assigned in data[3] is no bitfield but defines
a single value which points to a location inside the CAN frame on the wire.

This patch fixes the assignments for the error locations in error messages.

7cecd9ab80 can: sja1000: clear interrupts on start
According to SJA1000 data sheet error-warning (EI) interrupt is not
cleared by setting the controller in to reset-mode.

Then if we have the following case:
- system is suspended (echo mem > /sys/power/state) and SJA1000 is left
  in operating state
- A bus error condition occurs which activates EI interrupt, system is
  still suspended which means EI interrupt will be not be handled nor
  cleared.

If the above two events occur, on resume there is no way to return the
SJA1000 to operating state, except to cycle power to it.

By simply reading the IR register on start we will clear any previous
conditions that could be present.

06b23f7fbb can: pcan_usb: don't provide CAN FD bittimings by non-FD adapters
The CAN FD data bittiming constants are provided via netlink only when there
are valid CAN FD constants available in priv->data_bittiming_const.

Due to the indirection of pointer assignments in the peak_usb driver the
priv->data_bittiming_const never becomes NULL - not even for non-FD adapters.

The data_bittiming_const points to zero'ed data which leads to this result
when running 'ip -details link show can0':

25b401c181 can: mcp251x: fix resume when device is down
If a valid power regulator or a dummy regulator is used (which
happens to be the case when no regulator is specified), restart_work
is queued no matter whether the device was running or not at suspend
time. Since work queues get initialized in the ndo_open callback,
resuming leads to a NULL pointer exception.

Reverse exactly the steps executed at suspend time:
- Enable the power regulator in any case
- Enable the transceiver regulator if the device was running, even in
  case we have a power regulator
- Queue restart_work only in case the device was running

d3b58c47d3 can: replace timestamp as unique skb attribute
Commit 514ac99c64 "can: fix multiple delivery of a single CAN frame for
overlapping CAN filters" requires the skb->tstamp to be set to check for
identical CAN skbs.

Without timestamping to be required by user space applications this timestamp
was not generated which lead to commit 36c01245eb "can: fix loss of CAN frames
in raw_rcv" - which forces the timestamp to be set in all CAN related skbuffs
by introducing several __net_timestamp() calls.

This forces e.g. out of tree drivers which are not using alloc_can{,fd}_skb()
to add __net_timestamp() after skbuff creation to prevent the frame loss fixed
in mainline Linux.

This patch removes the timestamp dependency and uses an atomic counter to
create an unique identifier together with the skbuff pointer.

Btw: the new skbcnt element introduced in struct can_skb_priv has to be
initialized with zero in out-of-tree drivers which are not using
alloc_can{,fd}_skb() too.

0333651911 can: c_can: Fix default pinmux glitch at init
The previous change 3973c526ae (net: can: c_can: Disable pins when CAN
interface is down) causes a slight glitch on the pinctrl settings when used.
Since commit ab78029 (drivers/pinctrl: grab default handles from device core),
the device core will automatically set the default pins. This causes the pins
to be momentarily set to the default and then to the sleep state in
register_c_can_dev(). By adding an optional "enable" state, boards can set the
default pin state to be disabled and avoid the glitch when the switch from
default to sleep first occurs. If the "enable" state is not available
c_can_pinctrl_select_state() falls back to using the "default" pinctrl state.

[Roger Q] - Forward port to v4.2 and use pinctrl_get_select().

5e63e6baa1 can: rcar_can: fix IRQ check
rcar_can_probe() regards 0 as a wrong IRQ #, despite platform_get_irq() that it
calls returns negative error code in that case. This leads to the following
being printed to the console when attempting to open the device:

error requesting interrupt fffffffa

because  rcar_can_open() calls request_irq() with a negative IRQ #, and that
function naturally fails with -EINVAL.

Check for the negative error codes instead and propagate them upstream instead
of just returning -ENODEV.

overlapping CAN filters" requires the skb->tstamp to be set to check for
identical CAN skbs.

As net timestamping is influenced by several players (netstamp_needed and
netdev_tstamp_prequeue) Manfred missed a proper timestamp which leads to
CAN frame loss.

As skb timestamping became now mandatory for CAN related skbs this patch
makes sure that received CAN skbs always have a proper timestamp set.
Maybe there's a better solution in the future but this patch fixes the
CAN frame loss so far.

1) qca_spi.c renamed the local variable used for the SPI device
   from spi_device to spi, meanwhile the spi_set_drvdata() call
   got moved further up in the probe function.

2) Two changes were both adding new members to codel params
   structure, and thus we had overlapping changes to the
   initializer function.

3) 'net' was making a fix to sk_release_kernel() which is
   completely removed in 'net-next'.

4) In net_namespace.c, the rtnl_net_fill() call for GET operations
   had the command value fixed, meanwhile 'net-next' adjusted the
   argument signature a bit.

This also matches example merge resolutions posted by Stephen
Rothwell over the past two days.

844e0edf42 can: janz-ican3: add support for CAL/CANopen firmware
In our department we are using some older Janz ICAN3-modules in our dekstop
pcs. There we have slightly different carrier boards than the janz-cmodio
supported in the kernel sources, called CAN-PCI2 with two submodules. But the
pci configuration regions are identical. So extending the supported pci devices
to the corresponding device ids is sufficient to get the drivers working.

* The old ICAN3-modules with firmware 1.28 need more then 250ms for the restart
  after reset. I've increased the timeout to 500ms.
* The janz_ican3 module uses the raw can services of the Janz-firmware, this
  means firmware must be ICANOS/2. Our ICAN3-modules are equipped with
  CAL/CANopen-firmware, so I must use the appropriate commands for the layer
  management services.

Te driver detects the firmware after module reset and selects the commands
matching the firmware. This affects the bus on/off-command
(ican3_set_bus_state) and the configuration of the bittiming
(ican3_set_bittiming). For better diagnostics the detected firmware string is
presented as sysfs attribute (fwinfo).

5793affe8c net: can: xilinx_can: fix extended frame handling
Using IDR_SRR in RXFIFO_ID to test for the presence of data is only
valid for standard frames. For extended frames the bit is always 1 and
IDR_RTR should be used instead. This patch switches the check to use
CAN_RTR_FLAG which is correctly set when reading the ID.

The patch also changes the DW1/DW2 to be read unconditionally, since
this is necessary to remove the frame from the RXFIFO.

555828ef45 can: flexcan: Deferred on Regulator return EPROBE_DEFER
Return EPROBE_DEFER if Regulator returns EPROBE_DEFER

If the Flexcan driver is built into kernel and a regulator is used to
enable the CAN transceiver, the Flexcan driver may not use the regulator.

When initializing the Flexcan device with a regulator defined in the device
tree, but not initialized, the regulator subsystem returns EPROBE_DEFER, hence
the Flexcan init fails.

The solution for this is to return EPROBE_DEFER if regulator is not initialized
and wait until the regulator is initialized.

The PCAN USB (pro) FD adapters with firmware versions > 2.x support the
switching between ISO (default) and non-ISO conform bitstreams on the CAN bus.
The setting for the 2.x firmware adapters can be modified with the 'ip' tool
from the iproute2 package (option: fd-non-iso [on|off]).

082d70b614 can: kvaser_usb: Comply with firmware max tx URBs value
Current driver code arbitrarily assumes a max outstanding tx
value of 16 parallel transmissions. Meanwhile, the device
firmware provides its actual maximum inside its reply to the
CMD_GET_SOFTWARE_INFO message.

Under heavy tx traffic, if the interleaved transmissions count
increases above the limit reported by firmware, the firmware
breaks up badly, reports a massive list of internal errors, and
the candump traces hardly matches the actual frames sent and
received.

On the other hand, in certain models, the firmware can support
up to 48 tx URBs instead of just 16, increasing the driver
throughput by two-fold and reducing the possibility of -ENOBUFs.

Thus dynamically set the driver's max tx URBs value according
to firmware replies.

The be_main.c conflict resolution was really tricky.  The conflict
hunks generated by GIT were very unhelpful, to say the least.  It
split functions in half and moved them around, when the real actual
conflict only existed solely inside of one function, that being
be_map_pci_bars().

So instead, to resolve this, I checked out be_main.c from the top
of net-next, then I applied the be_main.c changes from 'net' since
the last time I merged.  And this worked beautifully.

The inet_diag.c and sysctl_net_core.c conflicts were simple
overlapping changes, and were easily to resolve.

A number of tx queue wake-up events went missing due to the
outlined scenario below. Start state is a pool of 16 tx URBs,
active tx_urbs count = 15, with the netdev tx queue open.

At the end, the correct state expected is a 15 tx_urbs count
value with the tx queue state _open_. Due to the race, we get
the same tx_urbs value but with the tx queue state _stopped_.
The wake-up event is completely lost.

Thus avoid hand-rolled concurrency mechanisms and use a proper
lock for contexts and tx queue protection.

2fec5104f9 can: kvaser_usb: Read all messages in a bulk-in URB buffer
The Kvaser firmware can only read and write messages that are
not crossing the USB endpoint's wMaxPacketSize boundary. While
receiving commands from the CAN device, if the next command in
the same URB buffer crossed that max packet size boundary, the
firmware puts a zero-length placeholder command in its place
then moves the real command to the next boundary mark.

The driver did not recognize such behavior, leading to missing
a good number of rx events during a heavy rx load session.

Moreover, a tx URB context only gets freed upon receiving its
respective tx ACK event. Over time, the free tx URB contexts
pool gets depleted due to the missing ACK events. Consequently,
the netif transmission queue gets __permanently__ stopped; no
frames could be sent again except after restarting the CAN
newtwork interface.

Upon a URB submission failure, the driver calls usb_free_urb()
but then manually frees the URB buffer by itself.  Meanwhile

a9ca6e13d6 can: kvaser_usb: Ignore spurious error events after a busoff
Sending data in high speed then introducing a busoff results
in spurious BUS_ERROR events from the USBCan-II firmware directly
_after_ the triggered BUS_OFF event.

In the current CAN state handling code, this will lead to an
invalid can state of ACTIVE, ERROR, or PASSIVE even though the
CAN controller has been already shut down due to the busoff.

Guard the state handling code from such invalid events.

e3629f5657 can: peak_usb: add adapter BEC callback definition
Add the definition of a new callback that enable any PEAK-System CAN USB
adapter to grant read access to its Bus Error Counters value. This ability is
not supported by all the PEAK-System adapters, thus, for those, the callback
pointer will be initiaized to NULL, which is correct regarding the linux-can
device driver specs.

f5d4abea3c can: kvaser_usb: Add support for the USBcan-II family
CAN to USB interfaces sold by the Swedish manufacturer Kvaser are
divided into two major families: 'Leaf', and 'USBcanII'.  From an
Operating System perspective, the firmware of both families behave
in a not too drastically different fashion.

This patch adds support for the USBcanII family of devices to the
current Kvaser Leaf-only driver.

CAN frames sending, receiving, and error handling paths has been
tested using the dual-channel "Kvaser USBcan II HS/LS" dongle. It
should also work nicely with other products in the same category.

List of new devices supported by this driver update:

         - Kvaser USBcan II HS/HS
         - Kvaser USBcan II HS/LS
         - Kvaser USBcan Rugged ("USBcan Rev B")
         - Kvaser Memorator HS/HS
         - Kvaser Memorator HS/LS

e638642b08 can: kvaser_usb: Fix state handling upon BUS_ERROR events
While being in an ERROR_WARNING state, and receiving further
bus error events with error counters still in the ERROR_WARNING
range of 97-127 inclusive, the state handling code erroneously
reverts back to ERROR_ACTIVE.

Per the CAN standard, only revert to ERROR_ACTIVE when the
error counters are less than 96.

Moreover, in certain Kvaser models, the BUS_ERROR flag is
always set along with undefined bits in the M16C status
register. Thus use bitwise operators instead of full equality
for checking that register against bus errors.

ded5006667 can: kvaser_usb: Do not sleep in atomic context
Upon receiving a hardware event with the BUS_RESET flag set,
the driver kills all of its anchored URBs and resets all of
its transmit URB contexts.

Unfortunately it does so under the context of URB completion
handler `kvaser_usb_read_bulk_callback()', which is often
called in an atomic context.

While the device is flooded with many received error packets,
usb_kill_urb() typically sleeps/reschedules till the transfer
request of each killed URB in question completes, leading to
the sleep in atomic bug. [3]

In v2 submission of the original driver patch [1], it was
stated that the URBs kill and tx contexts reset was needed
since we don't receive any tx acknowledgments later and thus
such resources will be locked down forever. Fortunately this
is no longer needed since an earlier bugfix in this patch
series is now applied: all tx URB contexts are reset upon CAN
channel close. [2]

Moreover, a BUS_RESET is now treated _exactly_ like a BUS_OFF
event, which is the recommended handling method advised by
the device manufacturer.

then sending a small number of packets would make the driver
enter an almost infinite loop of:

excessive logging output.

Initially, this has caused random panics in the kernel due to a
buggy error recovery path.  That got fixed in an earlier commit.(%)
This patch aims at solving the root cause. -->

16 tx URBs and contexts are allocated per CAN channel per USB
device. Such URBs are protected by:

a) A simple atomic counter, up to a value of MAX_TX_URBS (16)
b) A flag in each URB context, stating if it's free
c) The fact that ndo_start_xmit calls are themselves protected
   by the networking layers higher above

After grabbing one of the tx URBs, if the driver noticed that all
of them are now taken, it stops the netif transmission queue.
Such queue is worken up again only if an acknowedgment was received
from the firmware on one of our earlier-sent frames.

Meanwhile, upon channel close (#), the driver sends a CMD_STOP_CHIP
to the firmware, effectively closing all further communication.  In
the high traffic case, the atomic counter remains at MAX_TX_URBS,
and all the URB contexts remain marked as active.  While opening
the channel again (@), it cannot send any further frames since no
more free tx URB contexts are available.

Reset all tx URB contexts upon CAN channel close.

b442723fce can: kvaser_usb: Don't free packets when tight on URBs
Flooding the Kvaser CAN to USB dongle with multiple reads and
writes in high frequency caused seemingly-random panics in the
kernel.

On further inspection, it seems the driver erroneously freed the
to-be-transmitted packet upon getting tight on URBs and returning
NETDEV_TX_BUSY, leading to invalid memory writes and double frees
at a later point in time.

Note:

Finding no more URBs/transmit-contexts and returning NETDEV_TX_BUSY
is a driver bug in and out of itself: it means that our start/stop
queue flow control is broken.

This patch only fixes the (buggy) error handling code; the root
cause shall be fixed in a later commit.

47e3485af0 can: c_can: use regmap_update_bits() to modify RAMINIT register
use of regmap_read() and regmap_write() in c_can_hw_raminit_syscon()
is not safe as the RAMINIT register can be shared between different drivers
at least for TI SoCs.

To make the modification atomic we switch to using regmap_update_bits().

regmap_update_bits() skips writing to the register if it's read content is the
same as what is going to be written. This causes an issue for us when we
need to clear the DONE bit with the initial condition START:0, DONE:1 as
DONE bit must be written with 1 to clear it.

So we defer the clearing of DONE bit to later when we set the START bit.
There we are sure that START bit is changed from 0 to 1 so the write of
1 to already set DONE bit will happen.

6cfda7fbeb can: m_can: tag current CAN FD controllers as non-ISO
During the CAN FD standardization process within the ISO it turned out that
the failure detection capability has to be improved.

The CAN in Automation organization (CiA) defined the already implemented CAN
FD controllers as 'non-ISO' and the upcoming improved CAN FD controllers as
'ISO' compliant. See at http://www.can-cia.com/index.php?id=1937

Finally there will be three types of CAN FD controllers in the future:

1. ISO compliant (fixed)
2. non-ISO compliant (fixed, like the M_CAN IP v3.0.1 in m_can.c)
3. ISO/non-ISO CAN FD controllers (switchable, like the PEAK USB FD)

So the current M_CAN driver for the M_CAN IP v3.0.1 has to expose its non-ISO
implementation by setting the CAN_CTRLMODE_FD_NON_ISO ctrlmode at startup.
As this bit cannot be switched at configuration time CAN_CTRLMODE_FD_NON_ISO
must not be set in ctrlmode_supported of the current M_CAN driver.

9b1087aa5e can: dev: fix crtlmode_supported check
When changing flags in the CAN drivers ctrlmode the provided new content has to
be checked whether the bits are allowed to be changed. The bits that are to be
changed are given as a bitfield in cm->mask. Therefore checking against
cm->flags is wrong as the content can hold any kind of values.

The iproute2 tool sets the bits in cm->mask and cm->flags depending on the
detected command line options. To be robust against bogus user space
applications additionally sanitize the provided flags with the provided mask.
