e16edc99d6 vsock/vmci: log once the failed queue pair allocation
VMCI feature is not supported in conjunction with the vSphere Fault
Tolerance (FT) feature.

VMware Tools can repeatedly try to create a vsock connection. If FT is
enabled the kernel logs is flooded with the following messages:

    qp_alloc_hypercall result = -20
    Could not attach to queue pair with -20

"qp_alloc_hypercall result = -20" was hidden by commit e8266c4c33
("VMCI: Stop log spew when qp allocation isn't possible"), but "Could
not attach to queue pair with -20" is still there flooding the log.

Since the error message can be useful in some cases, print it only once.

1f935e8e72 selinux: vsock: Set SID for socket returned by accept()
For AF_VSOCK, accept() currently returns sockets that are unlabelled.
Other socket families derive the child's SID from the SID of the parent
and the SID of the incoming packet. This is typically done as the
connected socket is placed in the queue that accept() removes from.

Reuse the existing 'security_sk_clone' hook to copy the SID from the
parent (server) socket to the child. There is no packet SID in this
case.

1c5fae9c9a vsock: fix locking in vsock_shutdown()
In vsock_shutdown() we touched some socket fields without holding the
socket lock, such as 'state' and 'sk_flags'.

Also, after the introduction of multi-transport, we are accessing
'vsk->transport' in vsock_send_shutdown() without holding the lock
and this call can be made while the connection is in progress, so
the transport can change in the meantime.

To avoid issues, we hold the socket lock when we enter in
vsock_shutdown() and release it when we leave.

Among the transports that implement the 'shutdown' callback, only
hyperv_transport acquired the lock. Since the caller now holds it,
we no longer take it.

ce7536bc73 vsock/virtio: update credit only if socket is not closed
If the socket is closed or is being released, some resources used by
virtio_transport_space_update() such as 'vsk->trans' may be released.

To avoid a use after free bug we should only update the available credit
when we are sure the socket is still open and we have the lock held.

3d0bc44d39 net/vmw_vsock: improve locking in vsock_connect_timeout()
A possible locking issue in vsock_connect_timeout() was recognized by
Eric Dumazet which might cause a null pointer dereference in
vsock_transport_cancel_pkt(). This patch assures that
vsock_transport_cancel_pkt() will be called within the lock, so a race
condition won't occur which could result in vsk->transport to be set to NULL.

5d1cbcc990 net/vmw_vsock: fix NULL pointer dereference
In vsock_stream_connect(), a thread will enter schedule_timeout().
While being scheduled out, another thread can enter vsock_stream_connect()
as well and set vsk->transport to NULL. In case a signal was sent, the
first thread can leave schedule_timeout() and vsock_transport_cancel_pkt()
will be called right after. Inside vsock_transport_cancel_pkt(), a null
dereference will happen on transport->cancel_pkt.

c518adafa3 vsock: fix the race conditions in multi-transport support
There are multiple similar bugs implicitly introduced by the
commit c0cfa2d8a7 ("vsock: add multi-transports support") and
commit 6a2c096210 ("vsock: prevent transport modules unloading").

The bug pattern:
 [1] vsock_sock.transport pointer is copied to a local variable,
 [2] lock_sock() is called,
 [3] the local variable is used.
VSOCK multi-transport support introduced the race condition:
vsock_sock.transport value may change between [1] and [2].

Let's copy vsock_sock.transport pointer to local variables after
the lock_sock() call.

7f816984f4 af_vsock: Assign the vsock transport considering the vsock address flags
The vsock flags field can be set in the connect path (user space app)
and the (listen) receive path (kernel space logic).

When the vsock transport is assigned, the remote CID is used to
distinguish between types of connection.

Use the vsock flags value (in addition to the CID) from the remote
address to decide which vsock transport to assign. For the sibling VMs
use case, all the vsock packets need to be forwarded to the host, so
always assign the guest->host transport if the VMADDR_FLAG_TO_HOST flag
is set. For the other use cases, the vsock transport assignment logic is
not changed.

1b5f2ab98e af_vsock: Set VMADDR_FLAG_TO_HOST flag on the receive path
The vsock flags can be set during the connect() setup logic, when
initializing the vsock address data structure variable. Then the vsock
transport is assigned, also considering this flags field.

The vsock transport is also assigned on the (listen) receive path. The
flags field needs to be set considering the use case.

Set the value of the vsock flags of the remote address to the one
targeted for packets forwarding to the host, if the following conditions
are met:

* The source CID of the packet is higher than VMADDR_CID_HOST.
* The destination CID of the packet is higher than VMADDR_CID_HOST.

cada7ccd9d vsock_addr: Check for supported flag values
Check if the provided flags value from the vsock address data structure
includes the supported flags in the corresponding kernel version.

The first byte of the "svm_zero" field is used as "svm_flags", so add
the flags check instead.

3fe356d58e vsock/virtio: discard packets only when socket is really closed
Starting from commit 8692cefc43 ("virtio_vsock: Fix race condition
in virtio_transport_recv_pkt"), we discard packets in
virtio_transport_recv_pkt() if the socket has been released.

When the socket is connected, we schedule a delayed work to wait the
RST packet from the other peer, also if SHUTDOWN_MASK is set in
sk->sk_shutdown.
This is done to complete the virtio-vsock shutdown algorithm, releasing
the port assigned to the socket definitively only when the other peer
has consumed all the packets.

If we discard the RST packet received, the socket will be closed only
when the VSOCK_CLOSE_TIMEOUT is reached.

Sergio discovered the issue while running ab(1) HTTP benchmark using
libkrun [1] and observing a latency increase with that commit.

To avoid this issue, we discard packet only if the socket is really
closed (SOCK_DONE flag is set).
We also set SOCK_DONE in virtio_transport_release() when we don't need
to wait any packets from the other peer (we didn't schedule the delayed
work). In this case we remove the socket from the vsock lists, releasing
the port assigned.

65b422d9b6 vsock: forward all packets to the host when no H2G is registered
Before commit c0cfa2d8a7 ("vsock: add multi-transports support"),
if a G2H transport was loaded (e.g. virtio transport), every packets
was forwarded to the host, regardless of the destination CID.
The H2G transports implemented until then (vhost-vsock, VMCI) always
responded with an error, if the destination CID was not
VMADDR_CID_HOST.

From that commit, we are using the remote CID to decide which
transport to use, so packets with remote CID > VMADDR_CID_HOST(2)
are sent only through H2G transport. If no H2G is available, packets
are discarded directly in the guest.

Some use cases (e.g. Nitro Enclaves [1]) rely on the old behaviour
to implement sibling VMs communication, so we restore the old
behavior when no H2G is registered.
It will be up to the host to discard packets if the destination is
not the right one. As it was already implemented before adding
multi-transport support.

Tested with nested QEMU/KVM by me and Nitro Enclaves by Andra.

af545bb5ee vsock: use ns_capable_noaudit() on socket create
During __vsock_create() CAP_NET_ADMIN is used to determine if the
vsock_sock->trusted should be set to true. This value is used later
for determing if a remote connection should be allowed to connect
to a restricted VM. Unfortunately, if the caller doesn't have
CAP_NET_ADMIN, an audit message such as an selinux denial is
generated even if the caller does not want a trusted socket.

Logging errors on success is confusing. To avoid this, switch the
capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) check to the noaudit version.

This issue can happen if the TCP_ESTABLISHED state is set after we read
the vsk->transport in the vsock_poll().

We could put barriers to synchronize, but this can only happen during

The UDP reuseport conflict was a little bit tricky.

The net-next code, via bpf-next, extracted the reuseport handling
into a helper so that the BPF sk lookup code could invoke it.

At the same time, the logic for reuseport handling of unconnected
sockets changed via commit efc6b6f6c3
which changed the logic to carry on the reuseport result into the
rest of the lookup loop if we do not return immediately.

This requires moving the reuseport_has_conns() logic into the callers.

While we are here, get rid of inline directives as they do not belong
in foo.c files.

The other changes were cases of more straightforward overlapping
modifications.

The root cause is that vsock_find_bound_socket can't hold the lock_sock,
so there is a small race window between vsock_find_bound_socket() and
lock_sock(). If __vsock_release() is running in another task,
sk->sk_socket will be set to NULL inadvertently.

This fixes it by checking sk->sk_shutdown(suggested by Stefano) after
lock_sock since sk->sk_shutdown is set to SHUTDOWN_MASK under the
protection of lock_sock_nested.

7e0afbdfd1 vsock: fix timeout in vsock_accept()
The accept(2) is an "input" socket interface, so we should use
SO_RCVTIMEO instead of SO_SNDTIMEO to set the timeout.

a78d163978 vsock/virtio: fix multiple packet delivery to monitoring devices
In virtio_transport.c, if the virtqueue is full, the transmitting
packet is queued up and it will be sent in the next iteration.
This causes the same packet to be delivered multiple times to
monitoring devices.

We want to continue to deliver packets to monitoring devices before
it is put in the virtqueue, to avoid that replies can appear in the
packet capture before the transmitted packet.

This patch fixes the issue, adding a new flag (tap_delivered) in
struct virtio_vsock_pkt, to check if the packet is already delivered
to monitoring devices.

In vhost/vsock.c, we are splitting packets, so we must set
'tap_delivered' to false when we queue up the same virtio_vsock_pkt
to handle the remaining bytes.

Some transports (hyperv, virtio) acquire the sock lock during the
.release() callback.

In the vsock_stream_connect() we call vsock_assign_transport(); if
the socket was previously assigned to another transport, the
vsk->transport->release() is called, but the sock lock is already
held in the vsock_stream_connect(), causing a deadlock reported by

df12eb6d6c net: virtio_vsock: Enhance connection semantics
Whenever the vsock backend on the host sends a packet through the RX
queue, it expects an answer on the TX queue. Unfortunately, there is one
case where the host side will hang waiting for the answer and might
effectively never recover if no timeout mechanism was implemented.

This issue happens when the guest side starts binding to the socket,
which insert a new bound socket into the list of already bound sockets.
At this time, we expect the guest to also start listening, which will
trigger the sk_state to move from TCP_CLOSE to TCP_LISTEN. The problem
occurs if the host side queued a RX packet and triggered an interrupt
right between the end of the binding process and the beginning of the
listening process. In this specific case, the function processing the
packet virtio_transport_recv_pkt() will find a bound socket, which means
it will hit the switch statement checking for the sk_state, but the
state won't be changed into TCP_LISTEN yet, which leads the code to pick
the default statement. This default statement will only free the buffer,
while it should also respond to the host side, by sending a packet on
its TX queue.

In order to simply fix this unfortunate chain of events, it is important
that in case the default statement is entered, and because at this stage
we know the host side is waiting for an answer, we must send back a
packet containing the operation VIRTIO_VSOCK_OP_RST.

One could say that a proper timeout mechanism on the host side will be
enough to avoid the backend to hang. But the point of this patch is to
ensure the normal use case will be provided with proper responsiveness
when it comes to establishing the connection.

c742c59e1f hv_sock: Remove the accept port restriction
Currently, hv_sock restricts the port the guest socket can accept
connections on. hv_sock divides the socket port namespace into two parts
for server side (listening socket), 0-0x7FFFFFFF & 0x80000000-0xFFFFFFFF
(there are no restrictions on client port namespace). The first part
(0-0x7FFFFFFF) is reserved for sockets where connections can be accepted.
The second part (0x80000000-0xFFFFFFFF) is reserved for allocating ports
for the peer (host) socket, once a connection is accepted.
This reservation of the port namespace is specific to hv_sock and not
known by the generic vsock library (ex: af_vsock). This is problematic
because auto-binds/ephemeral ports are handled by the generic vsock
library and it has no knowledge of this port reservation and could
allocate a port that is not compatible with hv_sock (and legitimately so).
The issue hasn't surfaced so far because the auto-bind code of vsock
(__vsock_bind_stream) prior to the change 'VSOCK: bind to random port for
VMADDR_PORT_ANY' would start walking up from LAST_RESERVED_PORT (1023) and
start assigning ports. That will take a large number of iterations to hit
0x7FFFFFFF. But, after the above change to randomize port selection, the
issue has started coming up more frequently.
There has really been no good reason to have this port reservation logic
in hv_sock from the get go. Reserving a local port for peer ports is not
how things are handled generally. Peer ports should reflect the peer port.
This fixes the issue by lifting the port reservation, and also returns the
right peer port. Since the code converts the GUID to the peer port (by
using the first 4 bytes), there is a possibility of conflicts, but that
seems like a reasonable risk to take, given this is limited to vsock and
that only applies to all local sockets.

A socket will use the local transport (loopback) when the remote

  by virtio and vmci transports)
- or equal to VMADDR_CID_HOST, if transport_g2h is not loaded

we also have to take into account the CID.

This patch is useful with multi-transports support because it

module unloading while sockets are assigned to it.

b1bba80a43 vsock/vmci: register vmci_transport only when VMCI guest/host are active
To allow other transports to be loaded with vmci_transport,
we register the vmci_transport as G2H or H2G only when a VMCI guest
or host is active.

To do that, this patch adds a callback registered in the vmci driver
that will be called when the host or guest becomes active.
This callback will register the vmci_transport in the VSOCK core.

This patch adds the support of multiple transports in the
VSOCK core.

With the multi-transports support, we can use vsock with nested VMs
(using also different hypervisors) loading both guest->host and
host->guest transports at the same time.

Major changes:
- vsock core module can be loaded regardless of the transports
- vsock_core_init() and vsock_core_exit() are renamed to
  vsock_core_register() and vsock_core_unregister()
- vsock_core_register() has a feature parameter (H2G, G2H, DGRAM)
  to identify which directions the transport can handle and if it's
  support DGRAM (only vmci)
- each stream socket is assigned to a transport when the remote CID
  is set (during the connect() or when we receive a connection request
  on a listener socket).
  The remote CID is used to decide which transport to use:
  - remote CID <= VMADDR_CID_HOST will use guest->host transport;
  - remote CID == local_cid (guest->host transport) will use guest->host
    transport for loopback (host->guest transports don't support loopback);
  - remote CID > VMADDR_CID_HOST will use host->guest transport;
- listener sockets are not bound to any transports since no transport
  operations are done on it. In this way we can create a listener
  socket, also if the transports are not loaded or with VMADDR_CID_ANY
  to listen on all transports.
- DGRAM sockets are handled as before, since only the vmci_transport
  provides this feature.

b9f2b0ffde vsock: handle buffer_size sockopts in the core
virtio_transport and vmci_transport handle the buffer_size
sockopts in a very similar way.

In order to support multiple transports, this patch moves this
handling in the core to allow the user to change the options
also if the socket is not yet assigned to any transport.

This patch also adds the '.notify_buffer_size' callback in the
'struct virtio_transport' in order to inform the transport,
when the buffer_size is changed by the user. It is also useful
to limit the 'buffer_size' requested (e.g. virtio transports).

4c7246dc45 vsock/virtio: add transport parameter to the virtio_transport_reset_no_sock()
We are going to add 'struct vsock_sock *' parameter to
virtio_transport_get_ops().

In some cases, like in the virtio_transport_reset_no_sock(),
we don't have any socket assigned to the packet received,
so we can't use the virtio_transport_get_ops().

In order to allow virtio_transport_reset_no_sock() to use the
'.send_pkt' callback from the 'vhost_transport' or 'virtio_transport',
we add the 'struct virtio_transport *' to it and to its caller:
virtio_transport_recv_pkt().

We moved the 'vhost_transport' and 'virtio_transport' definition,
to pass their address to the virtio_transport_recv_pkt().

ad8a722035 vsock/virtio: fix sock refcnt holding during the shutdown
The "42f5cda5eaf4" commit rightly set SOCK_DONE on peer shutdown,
but there is an issue if we receive the SHUTDOWN(RDWR) while the
virtio_transport_close_timeout() is scheduled.
In this case, when the timeout fires, the SOCK_DONE is already
set and the virtio_transport_close_timeout() will not call
virtio_transport_reset() and virtio_transport_do_close().
This causes that both sockets remain open and will never be released,
preventing the unloading of [virtio|vhost]_transport modules.

This patch fixes this issue, calling virtio_transport_reset() and
virtio_transport_do_close() when we receive the SHUTDOWN(RDWR)
and there is nothing left to read.

ae6fcfbf5f vsock/virtio: discard packets if credit is not respected
If the remote peer doesn't respect the credit information
(buf_alloc, fwd_cnt), sending more data than it can send,
we should drop the packets to prevent a malicious peer
from using all of our memory.

This is patch follows the VIRTIO spec: "VIRTIO_VSOCK_OP_RW data
packets MUST only be transmitted when the peer has sufficient
free buffer space for the payload"

77ffe33363 hv_sock: use HV_HYP_PAGE_SIZE for Hyper-V communication
Current code assumes PAGE_SIZE (the guest page size) is equal
to the page size used to communicate with Hyper-V (which is
always 4K). While this assumption is true on x86, it may not
be true for Hyper-V on other architectures. For example,
Linux on ARM64 may have PAGE_SIZE of 16K or 64K. A new symbol,
HV_HYP_PAGE_SIZE, has been previously introduced to use when
the Hyper-V page size is intended instead of the guest page size.

Make this code work on non-x86 architectures by using the new
HV_HYP_PAGE_SIZE symbol instead of PAGE_SIZE, where appropriate.
Also replace the now redundant PAGE_SIZE_4K with HV_HYP_PAGE_SIZE.
The change has no effect on x86, but lays the groundwork to run
on ARM64 and others.

685703b497 hv_sock: Fix hang when a connection is closed
There is a race condition for an established connection that is being closed
by the guest: the refcnt is 4 at the end of hvs_release() (Note: here the
'remove_sock' is false):

1 for the initial value;
1 for the sk being in the bound list;
1 for the sk being in the connected list;
1 for the delayed close_work.

After hvs_release() finishes, __vsock_release() -> sock_put(sk) *may*
decrease the refcnt to 3.

Concurrently, hvs_close_connection() runs in another thread:
  calls vsock_remove_sock() to decrease the refcnt by 2;
  call sock_put() to decrease the refcnt to 0, and free the sk;
  next, the "release_sock(sk)" may hang due to use-after-free.

In the above, after hvs_release() finishes, if hvs_close_connection() runs
faster than "__vsock_release() -> sock_put(sk)", then there is not any issue,
because at the beginning of hvs_close_connection(), the refcnt is still 4.

The issue can be resolved if an extra reference is taken when the
connection is established.

473c7391ce vsock/virtio: limit the memory used per-socket
Since virtio-vsock was introduced, the buffers filled by the host
and pushed to the guest using the vring, are directly queued in
a per-socket list. These buffers are preallocated by the guest
with a fixed size (4 KB).

The maximum amount of memory used by each socket should be
controlled by the credit mechanism.
The default credit available per-socket is 256 KB, but if we use
only 1 byte per packet, the guest can queue up to 262144 of 4 KB
buffers, using up to 1 GB of memory per-socket. In addition, the
guest will continue to fill the vring with new 4 KB free buffers
to avoid starvation of other sockets.

This patch mitigates this issue copying the payload of small
packets (< 128 bytes) into the buffer of last packet queued, in
order to avoid wasting memory.

This patch moves the flush of works after vdev->config->del_vqs(vdev),
because we need to be sure that no workers run before to free the
'vsock' object.

Since we stopped the workers using the [tx|rx|event]_run flags,
we are sure no one is accessing the device while we are calling
vdev->config->reset(vdev), so we can safely move the workers' flush.

Before the vdev->config->del_vqs(vdev), workers can be scheduled
by VQ callbacks, so we must flush them after del_vqs(), to avoid
use-after-free of 'vsock' object.

Some callbacks used by the upper layers can run while we are in the
.remove(). A potential use-after-free can happen, because we free
the_virtio_vsock without knowing if the callbacks are over or not.

To solve this issue we move the assignment of the_virtio_vsock at the
end of .probe(), when we finished all the initialization, and at the
beginning of .remove(), before to release resources.
For the same reason, we do the same also for the vdev->priv.

We use RCU to be sure that all callbacks that use the_virtio_vsock
ended before freeing it. This is not required for callbacks that
use vdev->priv, because after the vdev->config->del_vqs() we are sure
that they are ended and will no longer be invoked.

We also take the mutex during the .remove() to avoid that .probe() can
run while we are resetting the device.

 5.2.  It contains all of the remaining GPLv2 and GPLv2+ updates that
 were "easy" to determine by pattern matching.  The ones after this are
 going to be a bit more difficult and the people on the spdx list will be
 discussing them on a case-by-case basis now.
 
 Another 5000+ files are fixed up, so our overall totals are:

cb359b6041 hvsock: fix epollout hang from race condition
Currently, hvsock can enter into a state where epoll_wait on EPOLLOUT will
not return even when the hvsock socket is writable, under some race
condition. This can happen under the following sequence:
- fd = socket(hvsocket)
- fd_out = dup(fd)
- fd_in = dup(fd)
- start a writer thread that writes data to fd_out with a combination of
  epoll_wait(fd_out, EPOLLOUT) and
- start a reader thread that reads data from fd_in with a combination of
  epoll_wait(fd_in, EPOLLIN)
- On the host, there are two threads that are reading/writing data to the
  hvsocket

stack:
hvs_stream_has_space
hvs_notify_poll_out
vsock_poll
sock_poll
ep_poll

Race condition:
check for epollout from ep_poll():
	assume no writable space in the socket
	hvs_stream_has_space() returns 0
check for epollin from ep_poll():
	assume socket has some free space < HVS_PKT_LEN(HVS_SEND_BUF_SIZE)
	hvs_stream_has_space() will clear the channel pending send size
	host will not notify the guest because the pending send size has
		been cleared and so the hvsocket will never mark the
		socket writable

Now, the EPOLLOUT will never return even if the socket write buffer is
empty.

The fix is to set the pending size to the default size and never change it.
This way the host will always notify the guest whenever the writable space
is bigger than the pending size. The host is already optimized to *only*
notify the guest when the pending size threshold boundary is crossed and
not everytime.

This change also reduces the cpu usage somewhat since hv_stream_has_space()
is in the hotpath of send:
vsock_stream_sendmsg()->hv_stream_has_space()
Earlier hv_stream_has_space was setting/clearing the pending size on every
call.

gcc 8.2.0 may report these bogus warnings under some condition:

42f5cda5ea vsock/virtio: set SOCK_DONE on peer shutdown
Set the SOCK_DONE flag to match the TCP_CLOSING state when a peer has
shut down and there is nothing left to read.

This fixes the following bug:
1) Peer sends SHUTDOWN(RDWR).
2) Socket enters TCP_CLOSING but SOCK_DONE is not set.
3) read() returns -ENOTCONN until close() is called, then returns 0.

d5afa82c97 vsock: correct removal of socket from the list
The current vsock code for removal of socket from the list is both
subject to race and inefficient. It takes the lock, checks whether
the socket is in the list, drops the lock and if the socket was on the
list, deletes it from the list. This is subject to race because as soon
as the lock is dropped once it is checked for presence, that condition
cannot be relied upon for any decision. It is also inefficient because
if the socket is present in the list, it takes the lock twice.

14a1eaa882 hv_sock: perf: loop in send() to maximize bandwidth
Currently, the hv_sock send() iterates once over the buffer, puts data into
the VMBUS channel and returns. It doesn't maximize on the case when there
is a simultaneous reader draining data from the channel. In such a case,
the send() can maximize the bandwidth (and consequently minimize the cpu
cycles) by iterating until the channel is found to be full.

Perf data:
Total Data Transfer: 10GB/iteration
Single threaded reader/writer, Linux hvsocket writer with Windows hvsocket
reader
Packet size: 64KB
CPU sys time was captured using the 'time' command for the writer to send
10GB of data.
'Send Buffer Loop' is with the patch applied.
The values below are over 10 iterations.

ac383f58f3 hv_sock: perf: Allow the socket buffer size options to influence the actual socket buffers
Currently, the hv_sock buffer size is static and can't scale to the
bandwidth requirements of the application. This change allows the
applications to influence the socket buffer sizes using the SO_SNDBUF and
the SO_RCVBUF socket options.

Few interesting points to note:
1. Since the VMBUS does not allow a resize operation of the ring size, the
socket buffer size option should be set prior to establishing the
connection for it to take effect.
2. Setting the socket option comes with the cost of that much memory being
reserved/allocated by the kernel, for the lifetime of the connection.

Perf data:

2c1212de6f SPDX update for 5.2-rc2, round 1
Here are series of patches that add SPDX tags to different kernel files,
 based on two different things:
   - SPDX entries are added to a bunch of files that we missed a year ago
     that do not have any license information at all.
 
     These were either missed because the tool saw the MODULE_LICENSE()
     tag, or some EXPORT_SYMBOL tags, and got confused and thought the
     file had a real license, or the files have been added since the last
     big sweep, or they were Makefile/Kconfig files, which we didn't
     touch last time.
 
   - Add GPL-2.0-only or GPL-2.0-or-later tags to files where our scan
     tools can determine the license text in the file itself.  Where this
     happens, the license text is removed, in order to cut down on the
     700+ different ways we have in the kernel today, in a quest to get
     rid of all of these.
 
 These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing
 list, and while they were created by automatic tools, they were
 hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on the
 patches are reviewers.
 
 The reason for these "large" patches is if we were to continue to
 progress at the current rate of change in the kernel, adding license
 tags to individual files in different subsystems, we would be finished
 in about 10 years at the earliest.
 
 There will be more series of these types of patches coming over the next
 few weeks as the tools and reviewers crunch through the more "odd"
 variants of how to say "GPLv2" that developers have come up with over
 the years, combined with other fun oddities (GPL + a BSD disclaimer?)
 that are being unearthed, with the goal for the whole kernel to be
 cleaned up.
 
 These diffstats are not small, 3840 files are touched, over 10k lines
 removed in just 24 patches.

Pull SPDX update from Greg KH:
 "Here is a series of patches that add SPDX tags to different kernel
  files, based on two different things:

   - SPDX entries are added to a bunch of files that we missed a year
     ago that do not have any license information at all.

     These were either missed because the tool saw the MODULE_LICENSE()
     tag, or some EXPORT_SYMBOL tags, and got confused and thought the
     file had a real license, or the files have been added since the
     last big sweep, or they were Makefile/Kconfig files, which we
     didn't touch last time.

   - Add GPL-2.0-only or GPL-2.0-or-later tags to files where our scan
     tools can determine the license text in the file itself. Where this
     happens, the license text is removed, in order to cut down on the
     700+ different ways we have in the kernel today, in a quest to get
     rid of all of these.

  These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing
  list, and while they were created by automatic tools, they were
  hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on
  the patches are reviewers.

  The reason for these "large" patches is if we were to continue to
  progress at the current rate of change in the kernel, adding license
  tags to individual files in different subsystems, we would be finished
  in about 10 years at the earliest.

  There will be more series of these types of patches coming over the
  next few weeks as the tools and reviewers crunch through the more
  "odd" variants of how to say "GPLv2" that developers have come up with
  over the years, combined with other fun oddities (GPL + a BSD
  disclaimer?) that are being unearthed, with the goal for the whole
  kernel to be cleaned up.

  These diffstats are not small, 3840 files are touched, over 10k lines
  removed in just 24 patches"

a9eeb998c2 hv_sock: Add support for delayed close
Currently, hvsock does not implement any delayed or background close
logic. Whenever the hvsock socket is closed, a FIN is sent to the peer, and
the last reference to the socket is dropped, which leads to a call to
.destruct where the socket can hang indefinitely waiting for the peer to
close it's side. The can cause the user application to hang in the close()
call.

This change implements proper STREAM(TCP) closing handshake mechanism by
sending the FIN to the peer and the waiting for the peer's FIN to arrive
for a given timeout. On timeout, it will try to terminate the connection
(i.e. a RST). This is in-line with other socket providers such as virtio.

This change does not address the hang in the vmbus_hvsock_device_unregister
where it waits indefinitely for the host to rescind the channel. That
should be taken up as a separate fix.

The netfilter conflicts were rather simple overlapping
changes.

However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.

On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks.  Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.

What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU.  I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

225d946426 vsock: cope with memory allocation failure at socket creation time
In the unlikely event that the kmalloc call in vmci_transport_socket_init()
fails, we end-up calling vmci_transport_destruct() with a NULL vmci_trans()
and oopsing.

This change addresses the above explicitly checking for zero vmci_trans()
at destruction time.

fe0c72f3db socket: move compat timeout handling into sock.c
This is a cleanup to prepare for the addition of 64-bit time_t
in O_SNDTIMEO/O_RCVTIMEO. The existing compat handler seems
unnecessarily complex and error-prone, moving it all into the
main setsockopt()/getsockopt() implementation requires half
as much code and is easier to extend.

32-bit user space can now use old_timeval32 on both 32-bit
and 64-bit machines, while 64-bit code can use
__old_kernel_timeval.

22b5c0b63f vsock/virtio: fix kernel panic after device hot-unplug
virtio_vsock_remove() invokes the vsock_core_exit() also if there
are opened sockets for the AF_VSOCK protocol family. In this way
the vsock "transport" pointer is set to NULL, triggering the
kernel panic at the first socket activity.

This patch move the vsock_core_init()/vsock_core_exit() in the
virtio_vsock respectively in module_init and module_exit functions,
that cannot be invoked until there are open sockets.

a915b982d8 VSOCK: Send reset control packet when socket is partially bound
If a server side socket is bound to an address, but not in the listening
state yet, incoming connection requests should receive a reset control
packet in response. However, the function used to send the reset
silently drops the reset packet if the sending socket isn't bound
to a remote address (as is the case for a bound socket not yet in
the listening state). This change fixes this by using the src
of the incoming packet as destination for the reset packet in
this case.

8236b08cf5 VSOCK: bind to random port for VMADDR_PORT_ANY
The old code always starts from fixed port for VMADDR_PORT_ANY. Sometimes
when VMM crashed, there is still orphaned vsock which is waiting for
close timer, then it could cause connection time out for new started VM
if they are trying to connect to same port with same guest cid since the
new packets could hit that orphaned vsock. We could also fix this by doing
more in vhost_vsock_reset_orphans, but any way, it should be better to start
from a random local port instead of a fixed one.

a11e1d432b Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLL
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely
unexplained.  They also caused a huge performance regression, because
"->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down
to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect
calls.

Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the
performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the
"->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer
to the poll head instead.  That gets rid of one of the new indirections.

But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted
for the regular case.  The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes
was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case
slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all
really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental
redesign.

e5ab564c9e VSOCK: fix loopback on big-endian systems
The dst_cid and src_cid are 64 bits, therefore 64 bit accessors should be
used, and in fact in virtio_transport_common.c only 64 bit accessors are
used. Using 32 bit accessors for 64 bit values breaks big endian systems.

This patch fixes a wrong use of le32_to_cpu in virtio_transport_send_pkt.

05e489b159 VSOCK: make af_vsock.ko removable again
Commit c1eef220c1 ("vsock: always call
vsock_init_tables()") introduced a module_init() function without a
corresponding module_exit() function.

Modules with an init function can only be removed if they also have an
exit function.  Therefore the vsock module was considered "permanent"
and could not be removed.

This patch adds an empty module_exit() function so that "rmmod vsock"
works.  No explicit cleanup is required because:

1. Transports call vsock_core_exit() upon exit and cannot be removed
   while sockets are still alive.
2. vsock_diag.ko does not perform any action that requires cleanup by
   vsock.ko.

Before:
All these functions either return a negative error indicator,
or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter
and return zero on success.

"int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not
care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value
it does not need.

None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols
ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it.

This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success,
return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated
from an error.

Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed.

rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was
to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently
not used in any way.

Userspace API is not changed.

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

 "This introduces a __bitwise type for POLL### bitmap, and propagates
  the annotations through the tree. Most of that stuff is as simple as
  'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local
  variables used to hold the future return value'.

  Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN
  misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is
  low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance
  deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those
  in this series - it's large enough as it is.

  Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and
  eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were
  equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are
  arch-independent, but POLL### are not.

  The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from
  the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them
  in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this
  is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll()
  work on all architectures.

  As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and
  it will trigger only on what would've triggered EPOLLWRBAND on other
  architectures. EPOLLWRBAND and EPOLLRDHUP, OTOH, are never triggered
  at all on sparc. With this patch they should work consistently on all
  architectures"

ba3169fc75 VSOCK: set POLLOUT | POLLWRNORM for TCP_CLOSING
select(2) with wfds but no rfds must return when the socket is shut down
by the peer.  This way userspace notices socket activity and gets -EPIPE
from the next write(2).

Currently select(2) does not return for virtio-vsock when a SEND+RCV
shutdown packet is received.  This is because vsock_poll() only sets
POLLOUT | POLLWRNORM for TCP_CLOSE, not the TCP_CLOSING state that the
socket is in when the shutdown is received.

4a5def7f6a VSOCK: Don't set sk_state to TCP_CLOSE before testing it
A recent commit (3b4477d2dc) converted the sk_state to use
TCP constants. In that change, vmci_transport_handle_detach
was changed such that sk->sk_state was set to TCP_CLOSE before
we test whether it is TCP_SYN_SENT. This change moves the
sk_state change back to the original locations in that function.

afbea2cd25 VSOCK: Don't call vsock_stream_has_data in atomic context
When using the host personality, VMCI will grab a mutex for any
queue pair access. In the detach callback for the vmci vsock
transport, we call vsock_stream_has_data while holding a spinlock,
and vsock_stream_has_data will access a queue pair.

To avoid this, we can simply omit calling vsock_stream_has_data
for host side queue pairs, since the QPs are empty per default
when the guest has detached.

This bug affects users of VMware Workstation using kernel version
4.4 and later.

Testing: Ran vsock tests between guest and host, and verified that
with this change, the host isn't calling vsock_stream_has_data
during detach. Ran mixedTest between guest and host using both
guest and host as server.

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier.  The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne.  Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed.  Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
   considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

   For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
   license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
   licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
   resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
   which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
   confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
   the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.  The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
   files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
   was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction.  This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg.  Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected.  This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.)  Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

c1eef220c1 vsock: always call vsock_init_tables()
Although CONFIG_VSOCKETS_DIAG depends on CONFIG_VSOCKETS,
vsock_init_tables() is not always called, it is called only
if other modules call its caller. Therefore if we only
enable CONFIG_VSOCKETS_DIAG, it would crash kernel on uninitialized
vsock_bind_table.

This patch fixes it by moving vsock_init_tables() to its own
module_init().

There were quite a few overlapping sets of changes here.

Daniel's bug fix for off-by-ones in the new BPF branch instructions,
along with the added allowances for "data_end > ptr + x" forms
collided with the metadata additions.

Along with those three changes came veritifer test cases, which in
their final form I tried to group together properly.  If I had just
trimmed GIT's conflict tags as-is, this would have split up the
meta tests unnecessarily.

In the socketmap code, a set of preemption disabling changes
overlapped with the rename of bpf_compute_data_end() to
bpf_compute_data_pointers().

Changes were made to the mv88e6060.c driver set addr method
which got removed in net-next.

The hyperv transport socket layer had a locking change in 'net'
which overlapped with a change of socket state macro usage
in 'net-next'.

b4562ca792 hv_sock: add locking in the open/close/release code paths
Without the patch, when hvs_open_connection() hasn't completely established
a connection (e.g. it has changed sk->sk_state to SS_CONNECTED, but hasn't
inserted the sock into the connected queue), vsock_stream_connect() may see
the sk_state change and return the connection to the userspace, and next
when the userspace closes the connection quickly, hvs_release() may not see
the connection in the connected queue; finally hvs_open_connection()
inserts the connection into the queue, but we won't be able to purge the
connection for ever.

413a4317ac VSOCK: add sock_diag interface
This patch adds the sock_diag interface for querying sockets from
userspace.  Tools like ss(8) and netstat(8) can use this interface to
list open sockets.

The userspace ABI is defined in <linux/vm_sockets_diag.h> and includes
netlink request and response structs.  The request can query sockets
based on their sk_state (e.g. listening sockets only) and the response
contains socket information fields including the local/remote addresses,
inode number, etc.

This patch does not dump VMCI pending sockets because I have only tested
the virtio transport, which does not use pending sockets.  Support can
be added later by extending vsock_diag_dump() if needed by VMCI users.

3b4477d2dc VSOCK: use TCP state constants for sk_state
There are two state fields: socket->state and sock->sk_state.  The
socket->state field uses SS_UNCONNECTED, SS_CONNECTED, etc while the
sock->sk_state typically uses values that match TCP state constants
(TCP_CLOSE, TCP_ESTABLISHED).  AF_VSOCK does not follow this convention
and instead uses SS_* constants for both fields.

The sk_state field will be exposed to userspace through the vsock_diag
interface for ss(8), netstat(8), and other programs.

This patch switches sk_state to TCP state constants so that the meaning
of this field is consistent with other address families.  Not just
AF_INET and AF_INET6 use the TCP constants, AF_UNIX and others do too.

The following mapping was used to convert the code:

  SS_FREE -> TCP_CLOSE
  SS_UNCONNECTED -> TCP_CLOSE
  SS_CONNECTING -> TCP_SYN_SENT
  SS_CONNECTED -> TCP_ESTABLISHED
  SS_DISCONNECTING -> TCP_CLOSING
  VSOCK_SS_LISTEN -> TCP_LISTEN

In __vsock_create() the sk_state initialization was dropped because
sock_init_data() already initializes sk_state to TCP_CLOSE.

ae0078fcf0 hv_sock: implements Hyper-V transport for Virtual Sockets (AF_VSOCK)
Hyper-V Sockets (hv_sock) supplies a byte-stream based communication
mechanism between the host and the guest. It uses VMBus ringbuffer as the
transportation layer.

With hv_sock, applications between the host (Windows 10, Windows Server
2016 or newer) and the guest can talk with each other using the traditional
socket APIs.

4df864c1d9 networking: make skb_put & friends return void pointers
It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *,
and in many places that means casts are required, more often than not.

Make these functions (skb_put, __skb_put and pskb_put) return void *
and remove all the casts across the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only
where the unsigned char pointer was used directly, all done with the
following spatch:

instances in net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c. In the former file, I also
had to fix one whitespace problem spatch introduced.

82dfb540ae VSOCK: Add virtio vsock vsockmon hooks
The virtio drivers deal with struct virtio_vsock_pkt.  Add
virtio_transport_deliver_tap_pkt(pkt) for handing packets to the
vsockmon device.

We call virtio_transport_deliver_tap_pkt(pkt) from
net/vmw_vsock/virtio_transport.c and drivers/vhost/vsock.c instead of
common code.  This is because the drivers may drop packets before
handing them to common code - we still want to capture them.

Otherwise we'll leave the packets queued until releasing vsock device.
E.g., if guest is slow to start up, resulting ETIMEDOUT on connect, guest
will get the connect requests from failed host sockets.
