Older Asus laptops change the backlight level themselves and then send
WMI events with different codes for different backlight levels.
The asus-wmi.c code maps the entire range of codes reported on
brightness down keypresses to an internal ASUS_WMI_BRN_DOWN code:
define NOTIFY_BRNUP_MIN 0x11
define NOTIFY_BRNUP_MAX 0x1f
define NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MIN 0x20
define NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MAX 0x2e
if (code >= NOTIFY_BRNUP_MIN && code <= NOTIFY_BRNUP_MAX)
code = ASUS_WMI_BRN_UP;
else if (code >= NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MIN && code <= NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MAX)
code = ASUS_WMI_BRN_DOWN;
Before this commit all the NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MIN - NOTIFY_BRNDOWN_MAX
aka 0x20 - 0x2e events were mapped to 0x20.
This mapping is causing issues on new laptop models which actually
send 0x2b events for printscreen presses and 0x2c events for
capslock presses, which get translated into spurious brightness-down
presses.
The plan is disable the 0x11-0x2e special mapping on laptops
where asus-wmi does not register a backlight-device to avoid
the spurious brightness-down keypresses. New laptops always send
0x2e for brightness-down presses, change the special internal
ASUS_WMI_BRN_DOWN value from 0x20 to 0x2e to match this in
preparation for fixing the spurious brightness-down presses.
This change does not have any functional impact since all
of 0x20 - 0x2e is mapped to ASUS_WMI_BRN_DOWN first and only
then checked against the keymap code and the new 0x2e
value is still in the 0x20 - 0x2e range.

There have been instances when the default size (1M) of the STB is not
sufficient to get the complete traces of the failure. In such scenarios
we can use a module_param to enable full trace that shall contain more
debugging data. This is not a regular case and hence not enabling this
capability by default.
With this change, there will be two cases on how the driver fetches the
stb data:
1) A special case (proposed now) - which is required only for certain
platforms. Here, a new module param will be supplied to the driver that
will have a special PMFW supporting enhanced dram sizes for getting
the stb data. Without the special PMFW support, just setting the module
param will not help to get the enhanced stb data.
To adapt to this change, we will have a new amd_pmc_stb_handle_efr() to
handle enhanced firmware reporting mechanism. Note that, since num_samples
based r/w pointer offset calculation is not required for enhanced firmware
reporting we will have this mailbox command sent only in case of regular
STB cases.
2) Current code branch which fetches the stb data based on the parameters
like the num_samples, fsize and the r/w pointer.

In amd_pmc_stb_debugfs_open_v2(), the stb buffer is created based on the
num_samples and the read/write pointer offset. This holds good when the
num_samples reported by PMFW is less than S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX; where
the stb buffer gets filled from 0th position until
S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX - 1 based on the read/write pointer offset.
But when the num_samples exceeds the S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX, the current
code does not handle it well as it does not account for the cases where
the stb buffer has to filled up as a circular buffer.
Handle this scenario into two cases, where first memcpy will have the
samples from location:
(num_samples % S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX) - (S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX - 1)
and next memcpy will have the newest ones i.e.
0 - (num_samples % S2D_TELEMETRY_BYTES_MAX - 1)

The hardware definition of every TPMI feature contains a major and minor
version. When there is a change in the MMIO offset or change in the
definition of a field, hardware will change major version. For addition
of new fields without modifying existing MMIO offsets or fields, only the
minor version is changed.
Driver is developed to support uncore frequency control (UFS) for a major
and minor version. If the hardware changes major version, since offsets
and definitions are changed, driver cannot continue to provide UFS
interface to users. Driver can still function with minor version change
as it will just miss the new functionality added by the hardware.
The current implementation logs information message and skips adding
uncore sysfs entry for a resource for any version mismatch. Check major
and minor version mismatch for every valid resource and fail on any major
version mismatch by logging an error message. A valid resource has a
version which is not 0xFF.
If there is mismatch with the minor version, continue with a log message.

Even if OS is not allowed to dynamically switch, it is still possible for

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove().
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove

On Lenovo platforms there is a limitation in the number of times an
attribute can be saved. This is an architectural limitation and it limits
the number of attributes that can be modified to 48.
A solution for this is instead of the attribute being saved after every
modification allow a user to bulk set the attributes and then trigger a
final save. This allows unlimited attributes.
This patch introduces a save_settings attribute that can be configured to
either single or bulk mode by the user.
Single mode is the default but customers who want to avoid the 48
attribute limit can enable bulk mode.
Displaying the save_settings attribute will display the enabled mode.
When in bulk mode writing 'save' to the save_settings attribute will
trigger a save. Once this has been done a reboot is required before more
attributes can be modified.

It's possible for interrupts to get significantly delayed to the point
that callers of intel_scu_ipc_dev_command() and friends can call the
function once, hit a timeout, and call it again while the interrupt
still hasn't been processed. This driver will get seriously confused if
the interrupt is finally processed after the second IPC has been sent
with ipc_command(). It won't know which IPC has been completed. This
could be quite disastrous if calling code assumes something has happened
upon return from intel_scu_ipc_dev_simple_command() when it actually
hasn't.
Let's avoid this scenario by simply returning -EBUSY in this case.
Hopefully higher layers will know to back off or fail gracefully when
this happens. It's all highly unlikely anyway, but it's better to be
correct here as we have no way to know which IPC the status register is
telling us about if we send a second IPC while the previous IPC is still
processing.

Andy discovered this bug during patch review. The 'scu' argument to this
function shouldn't be overridden by the function itself. It doesn't make
any sense. Looking at the commit history, we see that commit
f57fa18583 ("platform/x86: intel_scu_ipc: Introduce new SCU IPC API")
removed the setting of the scu to ipcdev in other functions, but not
this one. That was an oversight. Remove this line so that we stop
overriding the scu instance that is used by this function.

It's possible for the completion in ipc_wait_for_interrupt() to timeout,
simply because the interrupt was delayed in being processed. A timeout
in itself is not an error. This driver should check the status register
upon a timeout to ensure that scheduling or interrupt processing delays
don't affect the outcome of the IPC return value.
CPU0 SCU
---- ---
ipc_wait_for_interrupt()
wait_for_completion_timeout(&scu->cmd_complete)
[TIMEOUT] status[IPC_STATUS_BUSY]=0
Fix this problem by reading the status bit in all cases, regardless of
the timeout. If the completion times out, we'll assume the problem was
that the IPC_STATUS_BUSY bit was still set, but if the status bit is
cleared in the meantime we know that we hit some scheduling delay and we
should just check the error bit.

It's possible for the polling loop in busy_loop() to get scheduled away
for a long time.
status = ipc_read_status(scu); // status = IPC_STATUS_BUSY
<long time scheduled away>
if (!(status & IPC_STATUS_BUSY))
If this happens, then the status bit could change while the task is
scheduled away and this function would never read the status again after
timing out. Instead, the function will return -ETIMEDOUT when it's
possible that scheduling didn't work out and the status bit was cleared.
Bit polling code should always check the bit being polled one more time
after the timeout in case this happens.
Fix this by reading the status once more after the while loop breaks.
The readl_poll_timeout() macro implements all of this, and it is
shorter, so use that macro here to consolidate code and fix this.
There were some concerns with using readl_poll_timeout() because it uses
timekeeping, and timekeeping isn't running early on or during the late
stages of system suspend or early stages of system resume, but an audit
of the code concluded that this code isn't called during those times so
it is safe to use the macro.

Add support for the WMI methods used to turn off and adjust the
brightness of the secondary "screenpad" device found on some high-end
ASUS laptops like the GX650P series and others.
There are some small quirks with this device when considering only the
raw WMI methods:
1. The Off method can only switch the device off
2. Changing the brightness turns the device back on
3. To turn the device back on the brightness must be > 1
4. When the device is off the brightness can't be changed (so it is
stored by the driver if device is off).
5. Booting with a value of 0 brightness (retained by bios) means the bios
will set a value of >0 <15
6. When the device is off it is "unplugged"
asus_wmi sets the minimum brightness as 20 in general use, and 60 for
booting with values <= min.
The ACPI methods are used in a new backlight device named asus_screenpad.

A mouse that uses a USB connection is called a "USB mouse" device (or
"USB mouse" for short), not a "mouse USB" device. By analogy, a WiFi
adapter that connects to the host computer via USB is a "USB wireless"
device, not a "wireless USB" device. (The latter term more properly
refers to a defunct Wireless USB specification, which described a
technology for sending USB protocol messages over an ultra wideband
radio link.)
Similarly for a WiFi adapter card that plugs into a PCIe slot: It is a
"PCIe wireless" device, not a "wireless PCIe" device.

In order to support new Nvidia COME module FPGA device driver

system resources are to be mapped to this device, otherwise system
resources are to be mapped same as it has been done before for Lattice
LPC based CPLD.

The lenovo-ymc driver is causing the keyboard + touchpad to stop working
on some regular laptop models such as the Lenovo ThinkBook 13s G2 ITL 20V9.
The problem is that there are YMC WMI GUID methods in the ACPI tables
of these laptops, despite them not being Yogas and lenovo-ymc loading
causes libinput to see a SW_TABLET_MODE switch with state 1.
This in turn causes libinput to ignore events from the builtin keyboard
and touchpad, since it filters those out for a Yoga in tablet mode.
Similar issues with false-positive SW_TABLET_MODE=1 reporting have
been seen with the intel-hid driver.
Copy the intel-hid driver approach to fix this and only bind to the WMI
device on machines where the DMI chassis-type indicates the machine
is a convertible.
Add a 'force' module parameter to allow overriding the chassis-type check
so that users can easily test if the YMC interface works on models which
report an unexpected chassis-type.

System76 EC since system76/ec@9ac513128a detects if the keyboard is
white or RGB backlit via `RGBKB-DET#` at run-time instead of being set
at compile-time. As part of this, the brightness of white-only backlit
keyboards was also changed to behave more like the RGB-backlit
keyboards: a value between 0 and 255 instead of a firmware-defined
level.
The EC ACPI methods in coreboot have been updated for this new
functionality only, removing the old behavior.
This should preserve behavior as we roll out new firmware with these
changes included and users update to it.

As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h

files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to

Only the HW rfkill state is toggled on laptops with quirks->ec_read_only
(so far only MSI Wind U90/U100). There are, however, a few issues with
the implementation:
1. The initial HW state is always unblocked, regardless of the actual
state on boot, because msi_init_rfkill only sets the SW state,
regardless of ec_read_only.
2. The initial SW state corresponds to the actual state on boot, but it
can't be changed afterwards, because set_device_state returns
-EOPNOTSUPP. It confuses the userspace, making Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth
unusable if it was blocked on boot, and breaking the airplane mode if
the rfkill was unblocked on boot.
Address the above issues by properly initializing the HW state on
ec_read_only laptops and by allowing the userspace to toggle the SW
state. Don't set the SW state ourselves and let the userspace fully
control it. Toggling the SW state is a no-op, however, it allows the
userspace to properly toggle the airplane mode. The actual SW radio
disablement is handled by the corresponding rtl818x_pci and btusb
drivers that have their own rfkills.
Tested on MSI Wind U100 Plus, BIOS ver 1.0G, EC ver 130.

On a HP Elite Dragonfly G2 the 0xcc and 0xcd events for SW_TABLET_MODE
are only send after the BTNL ACPI method has been called.
Likely more devices need this, so make the BTNL ACPI method unconditional
instead of only doing it on devices with a 5 button array.
Note this also makes the intel_button_array_enable() call in probe()
unconditional, that function does its own priv->array check. This makes
the intel_button_array_enable() call in probe() consistent with the calls
done on suspend/resume which also rely on the priv->array check inside

The current code assumes that the CSC3551(multiple cs35l41) always have
its interrupt pin connected to GPIO thus the IRQ can be acquired with
acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get. However on some newer laptop models this is no
longer the case as they have the CSC3551's interrupt pin connected to
APIC. This causes smi_i2c_probe to fail on these machines.
To support these machines, a new macro IRQ_RESOURCE_AUTO was introduced
for cs35l41 smi_node, and smi_get_irq function was modified so it tries
to get GPIO irq resource first and if failed, tries to get
APIC irq resource for cs35l41.
This patch affects only the cs35l41's probing and brings no negative
influence on machines that indeed have the cs35l41's interrupt pin
connected to GPIO.

Some of the PM features can be locked or disabled. In that case, write
interface can be locked.
This status is read via a mailbox. There is one TPMI ID which provides
base address for interface and data register for mail box operation.
The mailbox operations is defined in the TPMI specification. Refer to
https://github.com/intel/tpmi_power_management/ for TPMI specifications.
An API is exposed to feature drivers to read feature control status.

We recently introduced a way to name additional modules to load for each

patch does not change behaviour, it is just style.

In order to know which hwmon modules to load one would have to usually
first probe from user-land i.e. with sensors-detect and create a config
for each machine. But here we know exactly what machines we are dealing
with, so we can request those howmon modules without user-mode detection

Siemens Simatic Industrial PCs can monitor the voltage of the CMOS

Here we model that as a hwmon voltage. The core driver does the PortIO

All of these variables are write only and there is no easy way to find
what the defaults are. In general they seem to default to the max value
the vendor sets for the CPU and dGPU package - this is not the same as
the min/max writable value. Values written to these variables that are
beyond the capabilities of the CPU are ignored by the laptop.

If for some reason a external function returns -ENODEV,
no error message is being displayed because the driver
assumes that -ENODEV can only be returned internally if

Fix this by explicitly returning 0 in such a case since
missing hardware is no error. Also remove the now obsolete

from s2idle when IOMMU is enabled. The symptoms very closely resemble
that of the Lenovo issues with NVME resume. Lucienne was released in
a similar timeframe as the Renoir / Cezanne Lenovo laptops and they
may have similar BIOS code.
Applying the same quirk to this system allows the system to work with
IOMMU enabled and s2idle resume to work.

cap_offset is a u16 field, so multiplying with TPMI_CAP_OFFSET_UNIT
(which is equal to 1024) to covert to bytes will cause overflow. This
will be a problem once more TPMI features are added.
This field is not used except for calculating pfs->vsec_offset. So, leave
cap_offset field unchanged and multiply with TPMI_CAP_OFFSET_UNIT while

The while-loop may break on one of the two conditions, either ID string
is empty or GUID matches. The second one, may never be reached if the
parsed string is not correct GUID. In such a case the loop will never
advance to check the next ID.
Break possible infinite loop by factoring out guid_parse_and_compare()
helper which may be moved to the generic header for everyone later on
and preventing from similar mistake in the future.
Interestingly that firstly it appeared when WMI was turned into a bus
driver, but later when duplicated GUIDs were checked, the while-loop
has been replaced by for-loop and hence no mistake made again.
